Good morning, everyone! We reached our high today (around 58 just after
midnight), and will be going downhill slowly all day today.

Coffee is ready, and juice is made. Breakfast will be: choices of turkey
bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal & toast.

Lunch today: beef stew w/cornbread.

Well, I scared Brian from Iowa and he dropped the cake - right on the floor where it was just where I wanted it. Could have left the plate under it, but no matter.

Did two things this weekend - Sat was so nice - it was just under 60 degrees, so went train watching and then driver got in a little fly fishing at our local watering hole. No bites - the fish were busy teasing the geese.

Seems BNSF has a schedule of running all their traffic after dark. So when weather warms up overnight there will be a small lantern and pen and book next to the tracks with a dark figure writing notes. Don't worry, I will give him a cell phone in case he needs to call for backup.

In the event Mudchicken reads this: We are going to be known as the Rock & Roll Railyard. Even the engines rock a lot when they go through the east yard at 1st. It is getting a little scary again! And this is in the middle of all the tracks. Evidently that whole area is sinking again! Stay Tooned!

We met my daughter for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory celebrating her birthday today and the temperature in the northern Chicago suburbs was 40+. Not quite as good in the cold state of Wisconsin-up to about 39- but, THE SUN WAS SHINING!!!!! After grey skies for so long, that was almost as good as catching a busy day at a favorite rail hot spot.

Oh yes, I should say I over ate, so I am passing on supper here. Back for something tomorrow.

Hey Carl, hopefully this spring I'm getting my Giant RinCon out and putting some serious miles on it. I'm now down about 38 pounds AND COUNTING. Starving tonight, though- gotta get a blood draw tomorrow morning for the Doc, hopefully to prove to her that I've reversed the diabetes indications she saw back in October.

Sarah, Mahler 7 is one of my favorites, as I suspect you know [;)]!

The first movement sounds like it could have been written for an outer-space adventure (this was written about 100 years ago!). The second movement kind of plunges you into the night, the third is creepy, the fourth is a nice break from the creepiness, and the fifth is funny--like one of those plays that involve doors opening and closing on a hotel hallway. But the whole thing is spectacular.

I put my first bicycle miles on for the new year. Only 3001 to go to beat last year's total!

My trip took me to Elmhurst, where the cell-phone reception is bad ([;)] again!) but the train-watching wasn't--I got five trains going by me in short order; there was never a tile when one of those wasn't in sight, and moving.

Now I've got to go to bed, and get up in the morning for work (my first day ever for going to work at 0630 instead of 0700). That extra half hour's going to be a killer!

Well, lets see what happened today?///.....hum..................um...................baisicly nothing. I caught a BNSF pumkin Dash-944CW heading up a NS manifest. I thought that was both weired and nice, due to the fact that the great state of Pennsylvania doesn't get any BNSF power.

Right now I'm sitting here at the computer typing, listing to Gustav Mahler's 7th Symphony preformed by the New York Philharmonic; I'm in the middle of the second movement. Lastly, I'm eating a cup cake vanella. As of now, that is the extent of my activities.

Looks like the wind vane for my weather station finally dried out. For the last couple of weeks every time the temperature went below freezing the wind ceased changing direction (or at least that's how it looked on the hourly log). It was solid, too. Tried tapping on it with a long pole and it wouldn't budge....

Chicken delicious, as always.

Good morning everyone! (well, it's morning down here, ha ha ha) and thanks to Joe, Chad, Sarah, and any one else I've missed, for your kind thoughts for my engagement.

Just fired up 'puter and being "Monday Morning at Work", the first coffee of the day went down very well! Plus some wholemeal toast and Vegemite - that savory black stuff we spread on our bread and toast down here...I know - probably looks vile to some, but it is real good stuff!

How's the chicken soup here? I do needs me thick low sodium broth, with bits of baby spinach, then lotsa carrots, celery, & onions. I don't care too much for noodles. Could you please substitute rice instead? Peppercorns, garlic. No crackers! Three or four sticks hearty rye (or choose your own dipping bread) to top it off would be great, thank you so much :-)

Day started out sunny here. Made a trip to town about dark and it was gently snowing as I arrived home again. Weather station had -3 at 8 am, but it's more reasonable now. Rather have snow than rain right now - when it rains it just gets cold again and everything is icy.

Randy - My son is in the tire business on the upper left coast. A snow day means everybody goes to work, even if it's your day off....

...Looks like mother nature is helping us here in the lower midwest now for the next several days....Maybe the next 5 days....Jet Stream to remain at the top edge of the US holding back those Artic cold fronts from swooping down into our area.....and as long as it remains there it will do so...So it's the 40's and 30's while that is happening here with just a bit of rain or flurries in that time period. That is better than much of December was here.

Hi! I was actually awakened by the sun this morning--first time all year I've seen it! (Fleeting view--it's covered by clouds again now.) Last night I caught a five-second glimpse of the moon through the clouds, also the first time in '06.

Chris should be back out west, getting high. (What does he call that? Fourteeners.)

Afternoon everyone....

Haven't been doing too bad lately, but it's been a little tiring at work..... literally. I've been mounting tires on rims for the last three days (did a little voluntary overtime yesterday, need the money). the only thing that would make life easier would be a lift under the pallets of rims, would save on the heavy lifting (22.5 inch rims are about 60 pounds of steel). At least I have a machine to mount the tires, I used to change tires by hand at one of my previous places of employment.

Weather has been warmer, but still haven't seen the sun for about two to three weeks, it's starting to wear on everybody, including me. Just once I'd like to see the sun!!

Made a little progress in my goal of getting my CDL this past week, sent out a few applications to various companies in the area, should get some replies later this next week.

Pizza night tonight, right? Sausage, pepperoni, onion, and green pepper, with some tomato chunks and some Romano cheese, please. Thanks in advance!!
