cw and mutt are in our prayers. another point to add with chads is always have working smoke detectors. there is leftover pizza in the cooler for late night snackers.we will have a sunday brunch but I need help for sunday supper peeling taters. any helpers?

No personal experience here with fire/electrical problems, but my wife's sister lost everything several years ago- their house out in the country burnt to the ground while her and her husband were both at work. Near as they could figure, a heat lamp on a porch meant to keep some kittens warm must've been knocked to the floor.

I'm not sure what we can do for CW and Mutt other than offer our good wishes, but if someone else comes up with a good idea, I'm game.

I agree with larry this should serve as a warning to be prepared. Plant some fire extinguishers around the place and in your cars. Keep a garden hose at the ready or inside and thawed out for you in ice country (NOT TO BE USED ON ELECTRICAL OR CHEMICAL FIRES). Don't forget the number to 911 and make sure your address is highly visable (and it's a good idea make sure your addy is correct in your local 911 computer). You should also go over escape plans with your familys to. And don't leave unnessasary appliances on when nobody's home.

I have had a couple close calls myself. One time a cheap fan seised up and the cord laying on the carpet caught fire rather rapidly.It was easy to deal with and just left a mark but what if I wasn't home? Another time I was going to school and liveing in a 30'travel trailer and the propane water heater somehow caught fire. I just happened to step outside and see it or it would have went up quickly.

Because of that I am always prepared (that and living in earthquake country). And it has paid off more then once. I have put out 2 car fires just by chanceing on scene and the last time there was an article in the local paper about it, "Cable guy saves car".

Now I'm not paranoid but like I say I am prepared. This actually bit me in the *** one time though. I had several vehicles at the time. I went on a road trip in my truck and the guage was down in the red on it's extinguisher. So I grabbed the one out of my Olds to take along. Well after I got home I forgot to put it back in the olds and a few weeks later I had an engine fire and was caught with my pants down. It was a total loss, **** I loved that car.

Anyway be prepared!!!!!

And thank God Mutt and CW are OK.

Best wishes to Mutt and CW to get through their near-house fire, hope it's nothing too serious. At least there wasn't a fire at all. Neveer been through a fire, have seen a few barn fires, though, those things last for days.

I'll take some pizza, Joe, you got any crushed red pepper? Found it's a good way to clean up the sinuses.

Oh yeah, I'm now feeling much better, hopefully will have this beat come Monday.

Having been through a fire in our apartment building years ago, I'm glad Mutt and Cher were spared that problem. But that's much longer without electricity than I've ever had to experience. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

CW & 'Mutts close call serves as a heads up that fire can happen to anyone - even a former blazebuster. I'm sure they'll have details in good time. I was wondering why CW hadn't been in...

Cold and snow here now. Temp at 2 AM was 51. Now, at 4 PM, it's 21. Snow is sticking where the wind can't blow it away. I think the wind vane on the weather station is stuck, again....

I do believe the pizza is ready.

I am thanking God,CW and Mutt avoided a house fire! Now I suppose the local pizza parlor will be doing a booming business supplying enough pizza to feed the whole crowd! I hope and pray that they can get the problem fixed soon.

Well, I ma very sorry to hear about CW & Mutt's situation with the near house fire and all. Oh man....just thank God the electrical problem didn't turn into a house fire! That could of been very costly.

Speaking of electricity there have been reports of power failures in teh Philadelphia suburbs, due to the weather over here. Which is interesting because, it isn't windy and it isn't raining hard at all. I think PECO is screwing up.

Well, other than this all is quiet on the Philadelphia front. I'm just staying in the house today trying to desperatly get rid of this sinius cold.

Jim yes I got an email from Cw too saying they were having electrical problems but they didnt go into detail.so we can handle the diner until they return.

Bad News [:(]

I just talked with CW and Mutt, no that is not the bad news. [;)] The bad news is the other night they came close to having a house fire. [:0] The good news is they found the problem and were able to shut off the electricity before major damage was done. However, now they are having to rough it in their house until repairs can be made. They have heat because of the floor furnance just no electricity. Coffee right now is instant, but they can heat up water. I think they have a gas stove, but they did mention they could heat up water (so that leads me to think they have a gas stove). Anyway, they are grateful that they are unhurt and the house basically is ok. It surly is a good thing that right now, winter is not at its worst, although it certainly could be.

Remember them in your prayers during their trying time right now.

I have it on good authority that the diner is lacking in juice. Hope a good supply comes in soon.

A good, mild, meaty chili would do me good (by now, yesterday's should have sufficiently aged). It's hovering near 30 here, but the wind makes it kind of bitter out there, in spite of the sun. Had it been a few degrees colder yesterday, we could have gotten as much as eight inches of snow, but as it is we have barely enough to cover the grass. Street's dry; the bike may come out later!

Joe, no problem on the Chili....we always find something else....On the weather...The large system...{from Mich. to the Gulf coast}, is moving fast....It's passed us now here in Indiana and we received no snow...None. Lots of wind late last night and still have a pretty good breeze out there now with temps. at 34....Was 52 yesterday. And...sunshine now. All that's left to come through here will be the wrap around from the system and we don't expect much of anything from that. Then more sunshine is on it's way.
A friend over in {Stoystown, Pa.}, my home area....tells me the system is to bring them up to 3" of the stuff....The elevation there is 2000 ft. and that does make a bit of difference.

Joe - That weather report is not a good sign. Currently 44 here, with .2 inches of rain over the past 5 hours. They did warn us, though...

Brian - Watch out for the hammock, too. I was dozing in it one day and woke up all tangled up and with curious scratch marks all over... You might be safe until Tuesday, but after that, tread cautiously....

QM i'm sorry i forgot about no chili for you.its 20 degrees colder then it was yesterday with the wind howling from the northwest brrr.juice and coffee are ready to go and breakfast is coming up with oatmeal, eggs,bacon ,sausage, and toast. pancakes will come up shortly. lunch will be blt sandwhiches or ham and cheese with your choice of soup and of course saturday were are gearing up for pizza night so get your orders in now.

I'm done with the classroom activities for this year. I took one test and got 100 percent on it--my instructor said I was the first one to do that.

Also took his sermon on consist accuracy out into the field and corrected a departing train's wheel before the AEI reader caught it. I don't think anyone will thank me for that, though the guy who would have gotten the blame otherwise should have!
