Good morning, everyone! Finally got my eyes open (I think), and I'm now
getting coffee on, and making the juice. Also got the water heating for
hot chocolate/cocoa and tea.

Mookie, what kind of party decorations do you have, and what kind of party
are we having? I haven't heard anything about a party, but I'll be glad to help
you with the decorations.

Breakfast this morning will be oatmeal and toast, or you can have sausage
and sausage gravy with homemade biscuits.

Wonder who brought in the electric blanket. We don't have one, so it wasn't
Mutt or me. Hope that particular rocker is by an electrical outlet.

Rats! Sounds like Ed has the situation under control!

I think I should start gathering all my decorations for a party we are (I hope) having next week. About Wednesday to be exact. A party of silence! The day started at 4:30 am (I was up fortunately) with a ruckus next door. "He" moved out for about the 3rd or 4th time. Driver said that would happen - it's time to move, so I will disappear while you pack and move and then when you relocate, I'm back and "I love you!".....

Sick!

Just announced that February will be cold and nasty. Anyone notice there is a small electric blanket on one of the rockers? O^~^O

Yeah, but it was a Rice University rat that ate the cable insulation, which means it was a very well mannered and impeccably dressed rat...[:D]

Hi Scott ! ( trainutz ) Thanks for the welcome & I'll remember the chocolate ! I see you're in the bicycle business, that's good to hear ! I'm a Schwinn factory trained bicycle mechanic, or was, I worked in a bike shop & my boss sent me to their school they used to have way back in the 60s ! Later I had my own bike & hobby shop. Used to be big in R/C planes & helis also. Back to 0-gauge trains again, now ! Thanks again, John

Well, it seems as if I missed some action the couple of days I wasn't on here.
John welcome to the diner, as you found out in only a couple of days, we have the best food here in the ENTIRE US of A!! [#welcome].

Well, my day was slow, it was productive but slow. Part of the slow ness came from the wind outside today. Man was it cold, and yes the wind was howwwwwwwling, big time! AND.. everytime I went to drive a truck or to drive my vehicle the wind resistance attempted to push me back. Darn it, I'm not too happy about that because, I had to burn up more 2.59 a gal gas, just to stay at road speed. I think we should go back to the Horse and Buggie days.

CW thanks for that delicious tuna melt with garlic bread, with mixed veggies. I really did enjoy that one. Now I think I will have some fruit Jello please. [:D]

Hello Everyone and thanks for the welcome Joe !! Heard that willard yard gets pretty busy from tome to time. We send quite a few cars there from Ashtabula, where I work. I hear some times they can't handle everything. One of our yardmasters left here a while back, to go to Willard as a Trainmaster. Real nice younger fellow, out of the Navy.

Abby Hoffman - AKA Barry Freed

He hid out about 20 miles from me, on the shores of the St Lawrence River. As Barry Freed, he was active in the formation of "Save the River," a conservation group that still exists, formed originally to fight winter navigation on the St Lawrence. Folks around here were thoroughly surprised when he "came out."

When he was interviewed by Barbara Walters, they took her by boat from the mainland to the island he was living on with Joanna. The catch is that there is a very servicable bridge (an international one at that) - they could have driven over. But they wanted to "fake them out," and have them believe otherwise.

Your trivia for the day...

Brother Carl- Once again in my neck of the woods. I'm at work right now, probably just up Roselle Rd or at least just a hpo skip and a jump away. Harper College, where I have been working since I switched jobs in November is right at the corner of Roselle Rd. and Algonquin Rd. (Rte 62). I'll probably be in the PAC if you go by![8D]

CW-As Carl was saying Hoffman Estates was incorporated as a village in 1959. It is named after some of the first landowners, Sam and Jack Hoffman. Thats all for today's history lesson. I'm off to learn more about fall protection safety![^]

Hoffman Estates is a suburb (with a name like that could it be anything else?) of Chicago, west and slightly north of the city by about 25-30 miles. No rail service whatsoever now, though with Metra's "down-the-road" STAR line it would receive service over new trackage and the EJ&E line, which comes close to it. Biggest claim to fame is that it's the location of Sears' headquarters.

It's been around as long as I can remember (so it predates Abby Hoffman's notoriety), and it shows on a map in the 1969 history of the Chicago area that I was just looking at ro research a reply for the question thread. I don't think it got very big until recently, though.

Hmm, Carl, have to ask this question: Where is Hoffman Estates?
Doesn't have anything to do with Abby Hoffman, does it?!? And yes, I usually
make up enough tuna salad so that anyone else who wants some, can have
some.

Speaking of tuna, the supper menu tonight will be: tuna melt with garlic bread,
with mixed veggies. Also got some more brownies in the oven, to have for
dessert tonight, with some mixed fruit Jell-O.

I'll have some of that tuna salad, too, if you don't mind sharing or can make more!

Actually, today is not a hump day for me. I've laid off so we can visit the son-in-law, who's in the area at company expense for a training session. We get to go to one of those fancy suite hotels on a street with a strange name that is probably a frontage road off the Interstate.

At that point, I wish we could move the Depot Diner, busy tracks and all, to Hoffman Estates!

Mookie, for you and me, I usually have plenty of tuna salad made up, so we can
"slightly" reduce the caloric intake. But, you know, all these guys needs big meals
like this to keep them working!! [:I][;)]

Good morning, everyone! Well, here it is, "hump day" again! Getting close
to the weekend, aren't we?

Coffee's on, juice is made, and have hot water for tea or hot chocolate.
Breakfast this morning will be something different this morning:

country fried ham w/red eye gravy, home fries, and scrambled eggs.
We'll also have the usual turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy to
add to the menu.

Lunch today will be: country fried steak (making sure it's real nice and
tender) with milk gravy and mashed taters, and peas and carrots, and
creamed corn with homemade biscuits.

Mmmmm... I think I'll just hang around here all morning![dinner]
