We did a little better here in the deep south (part of Wiscosin, that is) high of about 22 degrees.  Not moving too fast as it is sitting at 19 right now.  Randy, we are on the western edge of the storm track, so unless you are asking for snow 80 miles east would be better.  Looking at the doppler radar, it seems possible that this high pressure cold mass starting to cover us all will keep the storm track to the east of us.  Maybe Willy can check on this for us.

Meanwhile, there is a brand new two stage snow blower quietly waiting for its first mission.  guess I better stock up on carbs just in case.  I'll take a large serving of lasagna.

I hope everyone in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri are doing well in this winter storm they're getting. It makes me so darn mad knowing that it's missing Omaha by such a narrow margin. Hopefully our turn is coming up soon. It is cold enough here; the temperature is only 18 degree as I type.

I hope everyone has a good, warm rest of the week and weekend!

We're enjoying what will likely be the last nice day for a while - 63 as I drove in to work this morning, with the scattered raindrop.

Snow in the forecast, but that will be nice for the 'Polar Express' runs this weekend, as long as it's not so much as to interfere.

I know there's a bearclaw there someplace - it'll be good with my tea.

Good Thursday morning!  Randy, glad you enjoyed the stew.

We've got a temp of 62 this morning, and are supposed to
get to 67 today.  Then the rain comes in some time around
mid aternoon, probably about the time the middle/high
schools start dismissing students for the day.  Then,
sometime tomorrow, the rain will change over to snow.

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and we've also got hot
chocolate, hot tea, and hot apple cider.  On the breakfast
menu:  turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy w/homemade
buttermilk biscuits, hash browns, tater tots, oatmeal &
toast, cream of wheat and some blueberry muffins and
apple/cinnamon muffins.

If anyone has any special requests for lunch and supper
today, please let me know.

Everyone have a great day, and stay safe out there!!

^~^?  Keep missing Randy!  Drat!  Will have to go back to hunting down Brian - I got him a couple of times!

Winter has arrived - no moisture, which is ok, but the north wind and temps - Hey Houston - want to visit now?

Eleven above - which is about normal.  It will kill all the ugly bugs we have.  MMM - freezer food!  Warm up the microwave CW - one June Bug for breakfast!  Big Smile [:D]

Off to see if that light at the end of the tunnel really is a light or an approaching ACe....

Quite the echo in here tonight, must be the weather.  Was 58 for a high at 2am yesterday morning, is now 22 outside.  Had to scrape off the ice on the truck after work, after freeing the door up to get in.  Jay and Carl may want to get the plows and snowblowers ready, supposed to be more than six inches headed their way, thought I heard something about 18 inches plus, but can't be sure of it.

I'll grab a bowl of beef stew for dinner, see everyone later.

If only all leftovers were this good!  (Wait - this is the DD&CS - they are all this good!

Gotta take a look at "Polar Express" again before Saturday - I'll be running on the Adirondack's version for the next three weekends and figure I should be pretty familiar with it.  Should be interesting.  Most of the trips are sold out, about 400 people per trip.  My daughter's former employers are taking their kids on the last day, as part of a group that was large enough to get a full car to themselves.  I'm going to try to get that car that day.

At least they aren't serving the hot chocolate until they get back to the station...

Okay, everyone, the beef stew is warmed up, and ready to

dish up, and the cornbread is fresh out of the oven.

So, come on in, grab a seat and we'll start dishing up

the today's lunch.

Ray, thanks for getting the coffee started, making the
juice and the hot chocolate.  And mudchicken, I've got
the hot cider going, also.

Mookie, WELCOME BACK!!  You were definitely missed around
here!

And speaking of the missing in action, I managed to get
in contact with our owner, JHH last night.  He's been
really busy, and hasn't had a chance to get online lately.
He did have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off, so he
went to see his parents in Missouri. He's doing well, and
Duchess now has a clean bill of health!!

A hot breakfast is on the warmer bar:  turkey bacon,
sausage, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, hot oatmeal, toast
and hash browns can be found there.

SactoGuy, I did make a humongous pot of beef stew yesterday,
so we've got plenty for today's lunch and supper.  All I
have to do, is make some fresh cornbread to go with it.

Are there any more requests for today?  If so, please let
me know.

C-O-F-F-E-E  and a new puter!

My paws hurt from so much typing!  Some one in higher authority planned a bowl game, a big 12 game, 3 mail campaigns (about 40-50K each) and numerous ways to get at me on line all at the same time.  What is wrong with doing some of this in July?

Anyway - have a couple of comments from North Platte.  Our garage still smells like cow manure; we saw an ES44 that some one had written (in the dirt) FORD on the fuel tank - my own private joke - An engine marked Cotton Belt - a thrill; UP #6344 in all gray with a red stripe; and lots and lots of SP engines.  Watched them hump lots of cars and even a couple of engines that went "whee" down those same tracks.....

Stopped at Cabelas in Sidney on Black Friday - (I tried to tell him!) They had the whole western part of NE stuffed in that one little building.  We made a lot of new intimate friends just trying to get from one aisle to another.

Weather was super! Had a Starbucks on the motel property that looked like a roundabout.  They had window service as well as inside service - and they too had most of western NE in there.

Found out where the deer go during hunting season - they mingle with the cattle!  Smart deer!  Had to come back to work to find a possum in the parking lot, however!  Saw 3 Archimedes Screws - working, too.  Fascinating.

I was a little disappointed in the fact that the railroads want to upgrade their image with the population, but they offer little in places that people could sit and watch the railroad at work.  We sat in a parking lot on one afternoon to watch the extensive traffic in and out of Bailey yard.  We went to the visitors center which was a joke.  Either you stand up on a platform and look through the trees or sit in your car if it is really cold and/or windy and look at  the trees.  Why put up an observation point and then plant trees all around it so you can't see anything from the ground?  NP and UP are you listening?

We saw better railroad traffic from highway 30 driving in and out of the city.

But all-in-all if you want to see a lot of trains and don't mind that they are all UP - visit North Platte - or surrounding areas on Highway 30.  Just don't get to gawking and run off the road.

Now for some much needed hammock time!

@

PS - saw no turkeys - except for the ones driving - and part of one on my plate Thursday!  Hmmpfff!

A good, frosty cold morning to everyone out there! CW is not here yet, so I've gotten the coffee started and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice, and the hot chocolate is ready.

It's 13 degrees in Sioux Falls, and with the wind blowing out of the NW at 17 miles per hour, it actually feels like 3 below 0. I'll be working another shift as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army today and I am assembling some extra cold-weather gear. The temperature here will max out at about 16 degrees this afternoon. The air here is too dry for any snow to develop.

It's supposed to drop to 28 degrees F. tomorrow morning in Sacramento. Shock [:O] It's 38 degrees F. outside as I type this.

I'm going to suggest that CW make a BIG pot of really hot beef stew for everyone here tomorrow because much of the entire country is headed for a very cold morning.

Okay everyone:  the next batch of beef stew and
cornbread is ready for the supper crowd.  And if
anyone on the West Coast would like some, there's
plenty for everyone!  So help yourself.

And Joe, there's two plates ready for you to take

ZING!!!!

Got an early christmas present from the bank yesterday, took me two minutes to write the check and mail off the final payment...  Six months early!!  One big bill down, a few left to go.

Not too much else new, it's about 55 degrees here, supposed to hit 60, then in the 50s tomorrow, then the bottom drops out and the snow flies.  Looks like winter is on its way.

See everyone later.
