CW,
Thanks for the great breakfast before I had to leave for a Friend's auction I work at. Carl must really stink having to pay $7.00 to make them watch making quilts, that would put me to sleep.

Had to pay seven bucks to watch some quilts this afternoon. They didn't move or anything. Crossed the BNSF triple-track on the way there (Naperville), but no action.

Just about ready to curl up under a quilt that I am allowed to touch, and have some sort of comfort snack (not hungry enough for another meal).

Hey Cannonball, notice your location is "malfunction junction". Do you live right down
here by us, right where all three of the interstates (I-64,I-65, & I-71) come together?
That's our local nickname for that area.

John, breakfast for this morning was posted several replies ago. Now, it's
dinner time: the meat loaf and mixed veggies are ready to be eaten. But,
if you still want breakfast, there's turkey bacon, oatmeal & toast, or sausage,
biscuits and sausage gravy.

Mutt's made fresh pots of coffee, and I've got plenty of hot water for cocoa,
and can heat up milk lickity split for hot chocolate!!

Quentin, the barge was heated, that's where the diesel fuel that spilled came from.
I believe that's the reason that it will take so long to transfer the material, they have
to keep it heated,so it will flow.
You are so right about it not hitting one of the highway bridges;they have kept two
tow boats just down stream,to catch the barge should it come loose on it's own.
If it did,and hit the I-64 bridge (Sherman Minton) They would be looking to build
three new bridges, not just the two that are still in the planning stage.(that should
have already been built)

Joe; we've got at least one of those viaducts here in the city,on the NS (old Southern) It gets it at least once a week, doesn't seem too much worse for wear.

I guess we'll be seeing the barge, then, when we come down in a couple of weeks. Boy, I hope the weather cooperates!

I doubt that even 365 Mil would be enough to overcome the Kitten's reluctance to travel. I would be petrified of the publicity, and of all of the greedy so-called friends who would be hounding them for the rest of their lives.

Well,if the "Kitty" did win the Lottery, hope she will get the "dog"
a little nicer food and water bowl set, this one is about worn out.[:D]

Jim,instead of running your appliances, you can just let the water
"drip" real fast at one or more of the faucets;seems we have to do
that ourselves.(or open the bottom cabinet doors,to let the warmer
air circulate around the pipes.)
When it gets this cold here,we have to keep our faucets "dripping"
to avoid a repeat from several years ago, when one of the pipes
under our utility room ruptured.(that area has since been better
insulated and sealed.)

Quentin, just a FYI;but they now have crews on the scene at that barge
that hit,and is still against the K. & I. Bridge;they're saying it could
take as long as two months to pump the asphalt out of it,so the barge
can be removed/salvaged.

We are "supposed" to get a little warmer than what CW said;might
make it to freezing.(albeit, not alot warmer, but several degrees do help.)

....That is pretty wild of a winner in NE....! I just checked our numbers here and of the Power Ball and Lotto ticket we had I found one number which is about normal....Although I do get 2 numbers on Lotto quite frequently and that is good for a free ticket.
Jim, on those pipes....if the walls are insulated and no open areas the wind can get into them I doubt if 18 degrees would cause much trouble.....Our location here we have pipes coming up in outside walls {with blowed in insulation}, and cable heat in the ceiling and since we've built this house 35 years ago have had no freeze up's......Back in 1994 we had a low of -38 degrees....{while we were down south}, lucked out on that timing....

I am not sure if THE Kitty won but read this:

Nebraska Lottery officials confirmed a winning ticket was sold in Lincoln, spokesman Brian Rockey said. They know where it was sold and will visit the site early Sunday to verify the ticket, he said.

If she won then she and driver can both sit in the back seat now and let someone else become the driver. [:o)] Personally I think a nice older car from back in the 20s and 30s would be neat. You know the one where the driver had to get out and walk back to the enclosed "coach" and open the doors which both faced each other. Those kind of cars were cool. Then we could all say, "Hey look at that cool cat in the Dusey." [:o)] [:I] [8)]

Maybe she will buy a bunch of old passenger cars and take us all on a nice ride around the country. That is my goal if I ever win. That way everyone would get a sleeping room and coaches for visiting and dining cars dor dining. Friends, family, food, fun and trains all at the same time, what could be better ! [:D]

Well I am going back to bed. I got up to start the truck since it is only 18 here. [:(!] [:(!] [:(!] I kept the dishwasher or washing machine going most of the night to help keep the pipes from freezing. My house is an small, old house and I always worry about the pipes freezing. So far so good, we have one more day of below freezing temps then it should warm back up.

Take Care and Stay Warm. [;)]

We got down to 10 with a wind chill of -1 or 0 degrees.

Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on and the hot cocoa. I did NOT want
to get out of my nice warm bed this morning.

Time for some nice, hot oatmeal, toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits & sausage
gravy.

Sunday Dinner today is: meat loaf w/mixed veggies. We'll drink our dessert
today: hot cocoa & hot chocolate, with mini marshmallows in them.

Believe I heard that our high today will be about 19, 20 degrees.

....Our winter record is still intact....That is, no zero temp this season yet...Hope it continues. Looks like we're bottoming out now at 6.4 degrees and the sun is up so it probably will slowly start back up from here...but not that far today...Perhaps in the upper teens or low 20's for a high today. Does look like we'll have sunshine though.
Hope the temp at Daytona is much better than these figures for today. Today is the big one.....

Yeah, Brian, got a Powerball ticket the other day for tonight. Didn't match one
number. Mutt and I don't play the lottery very often. What few times we have,
we either match 1, 2, or zero numbers.

Our current temp at 11:32 EST is 14 degrees F. Think the wind chill is like 4
or 5 degrees F. Time to curl up under the blankey for the night!!

I picked up five quick-picks this afternoon myself, although I don't normally play Powerball. No luck, though- three of the chances matched one number.[:(]
Oh well, I'm not sure I'd like some of what would happen if we won all that money.

Had a sixer of Dr Pepper freeze and thaw a few times in my old truck, the bottles managed to hold it all together, had Dr Pepper slushies for a while..... not bad. I do remember having to clean the freezer a few times in my tech school days due to beers being forgotten in the freezer, those really make a mess.

Went to the Mad City Train Show today, was pretty good, picked up another Walthers catalog and a few books from Kalmbach. Had to fight the cold to move around, it was still -10 at 11am, got up to 3 above, now has dropped to -5, decided to do all my grocery shopping today (and Lottery ticket, though my chances of winning the 370M are about as good as a snowball's chance at you-know-where) and just stay inside tomorrow.

Sarah: I remember sledding at my parent's farm in our back pasture, the "suicide hills" there were steep and full of brush, really fun.

Have a good night all, and stay warm.

Pizza was delicious, as usual...

Sarah - my late step-grandfather, who was born in 1900, told us once that he and his friends would get on there regular old "Flexible Flyer" sleds on the top of one of the hills in my old home town, ride right down the street (this would have been around 1910 or so), have enough momentum to make it up a small hill, then hang a left and get all the way into the downtown section, and possibly all the way to the river. All told, that's approaching 3/4 mile. It'd be a long walk back up (unless you could find a horse drawn sleigh to haul you and your sled back up to the top), but what a ride!

Still breezy (lost a couple of shingles in the big blow Friday), and cold, but the Lake Effect machine is expected to fire up over Syracuse tonight and gradually swing north, so there may be some white stuff in it for us by morning.

Looking at +5 right now, but not holding out much hope that it won't go below zero.

Upper left corner of the country got quite the blow yesterday, too. With no power, my daughter-in-law just fired up the gas fireplace and settled in with their dogs for the day...

Carl

I crossed the border this morning and the temps went from -13 to -9. Returning this pm the temperature had gotten up to nothing, but when I crossed the state line it dropped to -3. The only thing I can figure is that the folks who want to protect the fine citizens of Wisconsin from the fine citizens of Illinois have built the border walls too high blocking the flow of the cold air. (Dummies)

Sunday is a mandatory church and rest day around here. I might get more rest than church, I'll plead my case to the powers that be. (How about too old to go out in sub-zero weather?)

Cher, a couple of slices of hot pizza (ham and you-know-what) ought to help on a day like today. Arthur got up to 11, but he usually is a couple of degrees too high.

I left a bottle of the good stuff in the car last night--just about had a major cleanup on my hands. Fortunately I "rescued" it just in time. It rescued me, too--at 0300 I needed some caffeine!

Well, since almost everyone is talking about snow and harsh weather conditions. I figure I might as well let everyone know that. All the 18 inches of snow that Philadelphia received last weekend has completely disapperied (spelling). This was mainly due to the rain storm we received yesterday. It very cold here in the great state of PA now, about 24 degrees.
