Pat, I made a cheese & sausage pizza just for you.

Now, for the rest of us, the tamales, and sides are ready. (In case anyone
doesn't remember, it's tamales, shelly beans, and lettuce w/tomatoes for
supper tonight.

We also have chocolate cupcakes and white cupcakes for dessert tonight.

....Somehow governments need to draft legislation that bands the driver operating a cell phone in a moving vehicle....{Yes, I own one...since ' 89}...

Sorry about kind of "disappearing" this morning, folks!! Was not intentional.
Just did not make it back to the 'puter to post a lunch special today.

Supper tonight: mild beef tamales with shelly beans and lettuce w/tomatoes.
For anyone not interested in tamales, there will be a big pot of Betty Crocker
Hamburger Helper Quesedia. If you want, there will be some warm soft tortillas
to put the Quesedia in.

Witnessed an accident - Lexus broadsided a little old lady - (no not me!) injuring her - he had to finish his conversation before he could even think about rendering aid.....

Heard on radio a lady in an SUV - rollover accident - paramedics found her arm down the road a-piece with the cell phone still in her hand......

I would be willing to bet cell phones cause more accidents then drunk driveing. It seems every time I see someone around here doing something really stupid it's cause they have a [censored] cell phone plastered to there head. And that jerk in the fast lane doing 55 usually is on the phone totaly oblivious to the traffic jam behind them.[:(!]

Agreed on that one - I almost got run down in the French Quarter (pre-Katrina) by a lady who wasn't even looking.

I saw an account once involving a woman (there really isn't a theme here) who was involved in an accident. When first responders went to her vehicle to check on her, she waved them off, still engrossed in the conversation that likely caused the accident...

Back when it wasn't illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving in NYS (it's ok if you're hands-free), I experienced several examples first hand of how your attention is anywhere but on your driving when you're on the phone, hands-free or not. And I was the driver... Fortunately there were no negative outcomes.

Hi all. Busy, busy these days-we are about halfway through the work for the year. I'm just as glad I did not win the lottery. Wouldn't want to have to split the take. How is that for the epitome of GREED!

Just kidding. Sounds like a nice group of folks to share the pot. Hope they get some good financial advice, though. $15 mill after tax doesn't go very far these days.

BC - quit grinding or you may have to go to bed looking like Darth Vader.

Stress, stress, stress!

I am teaching the driver how to be a road engineer - sleep sitting up. He is getting better at it! And if they don't do something about cell phones and drivers, I am going to learn how to sleep and drive. No difference!

Haven't bounced off any walls at work for a while. My exercise while on duty consists of moving toggle switches and levers, punching keys, ripping paper off the printer, occasionally going up and down the stairs, and rolling my eyes at the pronouncements of our hump conductor. Dentist says I've been grinding my teeth--same probable cause. I try to stay vewwy, vewwy quiet at work, unless I have something important to say, or can come up with a punchline for the material I'm being force-fed.

It's on the computer a home - will package and post tonight, time allowing.

The gates were all the way down when he drove around them, so he wasn't moving all that fast, and I was in a parking lot alongside the road, so in no danger. Didn't have my regular tripod, so couldn't set up in the best spot - the middle of the road. As a result, the picture has to visual junk in it, but it's not bad over all.

Sarah, we here in the wilds of northern New York say the same thing about the "City" and the NYS lottery. Bottom line is the odds go to where the tickets are sold, so if NYC buys 100 tickets to every 1 bought around here, they are 100 times more likely to win.

We do pull one off hereabouts from time to time, and the owners of the race horse "Funny Cide" are from a town about 15 miles from my house.

On other topics - stopped to do a night shot of a freight last night - a time exposure that included the gates going down. Almost missed it while I was setting up the camera, but the final image does include the line of the headlights of the small pickup that drove around the gates....

Good Thursday morning, everyone! I think I'm awake this morning. Just
now working on first cup of coffee, so not completely sure yet.

Breakfast this morning will be: turkey bacon, toast, scrambled eggs, or you
can have sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy, and scrambled eggs.

Wonder where our illustrious Diner owner (Jim) is. Hope he was able to go
visit his folks, and celebrate his Thanksgiving & Christmas, with his parents,
siblings, and extended family members.

Sarah - if it is any comfort - the Midwest thinks everything always happens on both coasts! [:D]

If BC ate all the sugar, they would have to scrape him off the walls.

Saw the 8 winners on all the newscasts last night. They are a diverse group and all look very bewildered. I am so happy for all of them. And by dividing it 8 ways, it will make it easier for them - they only have to worry about 15+ million each instead of the total lump sum. Since a nice house would cost about 1-1.5 million, this puts it all in better perspective.

None has a clue how they want to spend the $ or even if they do. That is so much better than having lawyers scrambling to find another tax loophole, since you went into the next higher category. And it is my understanding that two of the males are single? Sarah, are you paying attention?

And for the male population - the one female is too....

Y'all come to Nebraska to investigate and while you are here, leave $.

Still trying to figure out the language camera-speak, (I think that is what they are talking about) but having no success.

Leaves me >%< perplexed.....

Well, it was a bit of a lack-luster day PMA show-wise wasn't it? Truly, I think the Canon 30D should have been named the 20D Mk II after it's specs were revealed. Some nice upgrades, but does it really warrant a new product name (and especially one that will surely generate no end of confusion considering there has already been a D30 in the Canon line-up)?

The 17-55 f2.8 IS is appetizing, but alas! is another one of those dreaded EF-S lenses that those of us using anything made before the Digital Rebel cannot use (all three of us anyways...).

And then there was the new 85mm f1.2L Mk II. A faster focusing version of the oldy...but $2100? I thought the Mk. I was pricey at $1400! Sadly, this means the used market for the original should remain pretty high, too.

And then the poor Nikon folks get (yet) another Macro lens. I question the use of Vibration Reduction on a Macro. If you're not using a tripod for your macro shots, you're probably not doing them very well.

Well, I guess there's always Photokina to look forward to in September!

Meanwhile, how have you all been? I've been well. Still busy, but I guess that keeps me out of trouble. Also signed myself up for Netflix, so I've been catching up on some movies that I've missed (OK...so this is a pretty long list). Last one watched (and loved) was "Million Dollar Baby." It totally deserved all the Oscars thrown its way. Especially Hillary Swank for Best Actress...simply marvelous performance.

Well, I must be on my way. Hope you are all doing well. Take care!

TTFN!

Were you counting me as a 10D user? I assume you have the Canon 24-85, which looks like an early predecessor of the 17-85. In Australia, that retailed at AUD 600 (about $450) and it took me a long time to get it, but it is a very nice lens EXCEPT that the manual focus switch can be engaged more easily than any other Canon lens I've used (and I had EOS film cameras for nine years before I got the 10D. I managed to get a fairly basic Canon 28-200 and that is a really good general purpose lens for rail photography. I had a Tamron 28-200 dating from my film days, but it was not sharp enough. I don't like using even the 24-85 at full wide angle even for static loco photos because the perspective is too pronounced, so I probably wouldn't get a 17-85 even if it did fit the 10D.

Sarah, I can see now why everyone thinks you're so sweet...M&Ms, Starbursts, Skittles--all my favorites, but I usually get by on a bag of almond M&Ms, eaten soon after work begins.

....Sarah....Similar ticket winnings {of various values}, happen in your state....I was one of a group of 4 who purchased our "tickets" many, many years ago...long before you were born and at that time the winner was determined by reading the US Treasury numbers posted in the paper daily...The ticket was good Monday through Friday and was worth 3 times the normal amount on Friday by having all 5 numbers.....and would you believe we...and we were very young at the time...{about your age now}, and hit all 5 numbers on a Monday....So it's possible to win in the east too even though this was a bit different and many, many years ago.....

Speaking of the powerball. I do have a question why is it when the jackpot is hit, it is always hit out in the mid west or west, never in the east or in the south. I think there is something fishy going on here. hummmmmmmmmm lol. Here is what I think the South and the North on the eastern portion of the states..........IT'S TIME TO RISE UP!! IT'S TIME TO GET OUT TAX DOLLARS BACK!! [:D][(-D] LOL.

Carl, you were talking about how you needed a high energy lunch today. Here are some tips. Make sure you drink at least two Monster Enegry Drinks, eat two bags of peanut M&Ms, eat some Starbursts, and a bag of Skittles. You should have all the energy you need and then some!! Once upon a time I had to do something along those lines when I played ice hockey.
