Sarah

I spent a summer in Greenland. Really. Pre-snowboards so there was NOTHING to do. I think the Air Force may still run BMEWS up on the ice cap-less it's been scrapped in favor of satellites. Enlist for an assignment up there and you will get all the snow you will ever want! (No trains, though.)

Good evening all;

Well; my life has taken an interesting turn of events. A number of people in my program have nominated me to run for President of Student Council of the College.

In 2009, I am running for city councillor of my city-I have already begun the major task of homework on knowing the ins and outs of the city (not too impressed at the moment-now that I know what's going on and what can be done; a lot of improvement needs to be done).

I have been playing the piano live on an internet broadcast that I believe is affiliated with the BBC. I played a prelude that I wrote for a women who I now know is in love with me.

I have decided to stay an extra year at the college to get my diploma in Police Foundations so I can in addition to becoming a customs officer, train to become an auxillary police officer hopefully for Niagara Regional Police or Ontario Provincial Police.

That is some very great music to listen to,if you have the time to sit,
relax, and actually enjoy the music. It brings on a pretty good feeling
of total solitude.
Seems the best we can do around here,being busy with the Diner;
are things like Arlo Gutherie's "City of New Orleans",John Denver's
"All Aboard",Jo***urner's "Long Black Train",et. al. [sigh]

Even though it's not in the same category, maybe one of these days,
I can sneak in Mason Williams' "Classical Gas" to listen to here.

When you are retired every day is a snow day, espeacilly if you live in Greenland. Oh man I can see myself out ice climbing almost every day and snowboarding. lol

Well, today has been very slow over here in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. Nothing new is happening really. The weather over here is clear, but very windy and cold. So, I'm just in the house sitting here on the computer, listing to Mahler's symphony #7 second movement, drinking some Vitamin Water. Thats about all that is going on here now.

CW sorry I won't be able to stay for din din tonight because I'm eating out with a friend of mine. BUT, there isn't any food that tastes better than yours, espeacilly your Chicken and Dumplings!!!!!!!!![:D]

Thanks for the break Larry, and also to whomever fixed the plate for me !! [dinner]

I did get a chance to relax, but it mainly consisted in getting a 40'

Good luck to you and family Cannonball! Let us know that the mattress arrived ok!
No - you won't get the hammock, but maybe a small pillow!

Brian - just picked up a golf ball off boss's desk this morning - green with "Wicked" printed on it. Getting a little spooky around here - even for me!

Morning All

Not a lot going on this morning, some laundry, just finished lunch, going to walk the dog and watch the noon news, then start getting ready for work. Friday is no longer special as my weekend is Tuesday and Wednesday. [:(]

I can bid on a Monday-Friday job at Jenks but probally do not have enough senority to get it or hold it. [V] Most of our jobs at Jenks would be running a forklift all day. We supply parts to various areas on pallet, dump small dumbsters into larger ones, and sometimes do a little clean up. There are a few other jobs availble there but usually require 8 to 10 years of senority to hold them. So maybe one of these days. [;)] But who knows, I might go into a different craft, we will just have to wait and see about that.

Kroger have Valentine cookies (you bake them) on sale for 85 cents a package. Well most of you who cook know that is a heck of a deal so I bought about 7 or 8 packs. [;)] [:p] [:)] They were normally about $3.69 a dozen or another type (smaller) 2 dozen. They even had small packs of icing. I have already went through about 3 packs. [:D] [:I] [:o)] [;)]

Well time for the news.

Everyone Take Care.

Since the weather's so nice today, Mutt is grilling the fish out on the grill.
Larry, maybe if you're free after awhile, you can relieve Mutt for a bit. Don't
want you to feel left out, or unwanted.

Meanwhile, I'm in the kitchen deepfrying the hushpuppies and fries, and making
the cole slaw.

I really didn't have time to snag the license number, and I was concentrating on the picture anyhow. Took it with the Digital Rebel set for ISO 100, f16, sitting on a pocket tripod on the back of the truck. Hit the shutter button and the exposure was in the 5 second range.

Composition-wise, it's awfully cluttered, but the effect I was looking for was there (the lights of the gates going down). Now to perfect it...

Good morning! Hope you all have a good weekend, mine should be excellent! I, my wife, and my daughter are headed up to Minnesota to visit my parents and I and my Dad are hitting the big model RR show in St. Paul tomorrow. I'll have the camera along in case the urge to take pictures hits me. I'll try not to be a stranger, though, and check in from my Dad's PC. Next week, my wife and I head to Chicago on Wednesday morning to cash in on the remainder of her Christmas present- we have tickets to watch the play "Wicked". We're spending the night downtown and then returning Thursday. Lots of miles going on the minivan over the next week... TTFN!

Hi All

I'm Bacccccck

Sarah [8D]

You don't remember the man from West Viriginia who won 315 mil about 3 or 4 years ago. I don't know how you could ever forget him. He is in the news all the time. Drunk driving, drunk driving, sexual assault, arrest warrent, drunk driving, sexual assault, reported loss of $100,000 in brief case after running mouth in strip club and was drugged, woke up with no briefcase, you know, the usual run of the mill rude, drunken, touchy feely, idiot. Oh, his loving wife finally had more than enought and divorced him. Good for her ! ! !

Well I am back from my Thanksgiving / Christmas celebration. [:o)] What, you mean everyone doesn't celebrate T / C in late February? Oh well, not everyone works for the railroad. [B)] And the weather sure was Christmasy, ice, snow, sleet, and lots of below freezing weather. From Clinton, Arkansas and north, they had a fair amount of snow. I saw lots of cars and trucks off in the ditch. I came across one wreck but I don't think it was weather related. I think one person just pulled right out in front of the other one and got broadsided real good.

Well, well, well, the 10 pm news just said that Little Rock / North Little Rock is rated in the top 100 cities for something to do with jobs, business and something else. I didn't catch it all but that is a good thing.

AND . . . there was a new 3 point record set in Arkansas tonight. A basketball player from John Brown University just became the best 3 point shooter in college basketball. Can you say . . . N B A ? [;)]

On a good note, we have no belowing freezing temps predicted for the next week. I sure hope that last Friday's little winter weather was winter's last fling here. [:)] Come on M A R C H. [;)] Just like Q says, everyday is another day closer to spring. [:)] Bring it on. [^]

Well, this year's Olympics as far as the US is concerned is just a little flat. We definately could be doing a little better, actually, we could be doing a lot better.

Well, since it is close to 12, I think I might go to bed.

Take Care.

Brian;Great Idea !! Maybe you can get with your fellow engineers,
and use the same principle to do that to the vehicles that go past
your house, playing that loud music (?) "shaking" the windows and
"vibrating" the foundation !!!

Switch8frg;don't you all be strangers to the Diner, you all visit when
ever you can, there's always a place here for you.

CW & MUTT>>>>
I have some interesting news, hopefully . It seems a deal came across my path the other day. one that can't be refused . We are re domiciled to Ariz. In a short week , 10/98 { radio talk for bye bye Ohio} . The son's & daughter's live there. Empty nest syndrome hit us again. However ,we won't be leavin' fine friends @ the diner or on the forums . Homeplace is history , but not Rattler . like old dog he goes w/ us . We want to congradulate you two ,C W & MUTT for all you have accomplished in life . The same goes for all the page Diners who have input to the Diner . I will try to keep in touch in our westward run.We also have daughter in Grand Junction Co. ,close to BNSF rail yard . What a hoot . Glendale Az . has a large railyard there , BNSF . a good chance to see a goodly number of traffic . Till then , see ya' all,Cannonball & Shirl.

One idea that I've always entertained and put forth to my fellow electrical engineers- wouldn't it be neat to have a new type of "gun" that would emit an electro-magnetic pulse at the right frequency to blow out the power stages of the "boom box" in the annoying car ahead of or behind you?

Neat pics, Larry!

Here's the pics (click on the description):
Gates dropping and pickup driving through (coming toward the camera).
There's actually a train moving through this one. See the headlights?
If you look right above the trace of the headlights you'll see a periodic blip - that was one of those little amber beacons that some CSX engines have. It's not a warning beacon in the traditional sense, but I've never seen one on before.

The pictures aren't very good artistically, but I wanted to get the gates thing, and it seemed to come out OK for that. The next attempt will be better composed...
