Rain and snow here......and everybody here is overjoyed!

(at least the chance of a big range fire will quit for a few weeks, now all we have to worry about is all the transplanted Texans and Californians from the past year learning how to drive in the white stuff!)

Sooooo nice to smell moisture in the air again....

March here in central Indiana today is just cloudy and a bit of wind....and damp. But promise of 60's next few days sounds good. Trouble with that is it brings the possiblilty of rough weather....but not guaranteed. Mild temps today. Robins now are plentiful...Grass growing is not too far away.....

March has come in like a lion, so it should go out like a lamb. Now if I can survive until the end of March. Health seem to be improved today, but I am probably still contagious. Wear a mask during and wash your hands after reading my posts.

Good morning everyone!

Well, not really for me: my house will need MAJOR termite treatment and also have to fix a hole in the roof. [:(]

It's the first Tuesday here, at 10:00 a.m. I was about to add "sharp", but sometimes they seem to forget until they hear the sirens from surrounding areas. We have one across the street--fortunately we also have strong window panes.

SJ, I'll hug you anyway! Feel better soon!

Thunderstorms today--work will become challenging, especially when certain types of heavy loads need to be humped.

Round here it's grey and ugly! I wish it'd rain or clear up... I hate it when the weather can't make up its mind!

Cup of Joe please! Gotta start the day out right. Thanks for the warm welcome all around![8)] I work at home, freelance writer, so it's nice to get out and talk to real people...my dog only grunts.[(-D]

Better watch out on the chocolate....I've gotten a relapse before from too much sugar too soon (or too soon beer). Or I'm just a wimp!

The first monday of the month around here they set off all their alarms at noon. The first time it happened I almost had a heart attack, had no idea what was going on.

Mookie, you might have heard a chocolate kruller "moving". Brought in some
doughnuts for breakfast this morning. Haven't been back very long from
going to the doughnut shop to get them. Mookie, I got some boxes of Puffs
tissues, and brought in. Help yourself to a big box of them.

Got two big Crock Pots on with pork chop abracadbra cooking in them. Also
got potatoes, carrots and onions in with the chops. Should be ready for lunch
menu today. Then, around 11, I'll put more pork chops, taters, onions & car-
rots in for supper tonight.

Looks like it's going to be a fairly nice day around here, until the rain comes in
later tonight, and tomorrow. Yesterday at some of the schools around here,
they did Civil Defense sirens for tornado drills.

Yep - just couldn't remember the name. I recall driving up US45 (the Interstate wasn't done yet) mostly along the tracks, then in Paxton, they "disappeared" into the ditch.

Carl, I personally would love to come over to Chicago....especially to see some hard core rail action but, in terms of snow..... Humm yes I am a bit jealous but, Illinois doesn't have any good snowboarding runs, it's all flat land out there. hehehehehehehehehe

Not entirely - While it's no comparison to the Alleghanies, or even the hills of SE Michigan (I was so glad to get home while in the AF and actually see some!), I recall a long grade headed southbound into Rantoul, and there's a town between Rantoul and Kankakee where the rails are actually about 20 feet below ground level...

But you're right about the snowboarding thing, although if you could find somebody with a ski rope and an ATV, you could probably have some fun!

Had a little railroad-related excitement both before and during work today; still managed to keep everything upright and going the right way. I guess 991 out of 1000 is a pretty good job evaluation, huh?

The weather was freaky--the thermometer read well over 40, but we were definitely being snowed upon. None of the thunderstorms that had been promised--yet!

CW - I prefer to make my biscuits with baking powder and regular flour (baking powder biscuits!!!) Still just as good. Of course, if I'm lazy, I just grab the box of Bisquick...

State of New Brass Key has declared that the flu season is just about over for us.

Scanner last nite for police/fire sounded like the pneumonia ward - either talking in a tube or coughing.

Our building is sneezing and coughing.

Schools have large amounts of absence due to respiratory illness.

Are there two New Brass Keys in this country?

(I am sounding like a page out of Mudchicken's book....[^])

Pop-eye?

We've still got a little of the snow that fell on Sunday, but we're already near 40, so it won't last!

Not getting much done around home today; last night I watched the program about the Milwaukee sinking. They had one contemporary shot of Grand Haven, which made me a little homesick.

Josie, welcome!

SJ, glad you're feeling almost human...umm, feline...whatever! again. Today is the anniversary of a bug that almost wiped me out once.

Good afternoon all! Produce give-away was interesting this morning. We got
purple onions, Tropicana orange juice, honeydew melons, and lettuce.

JOSIE: Here's the recipe for homemade biscuits:

2 cups Self-Rising Flour
1/3 cup shortening (Crisco is the best to use)
2/3 cup milk (or buttermilk)

Cut shortening into flour until mixture resembles course meal. Quickly stir in
milk; knead dough lightly. Roll to one-half inch thickness on a lightly floured
board. Cut into two-inch biscuits; place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in preheated, very hot oven (450degrees) 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 12
to 16 biscuits. *Note: Dough may be stored in refrigerator in tightly covered
container up to five days. Roll, cut, and bake as needed.)

Lunch today: Cream of Potato soup w/ham & cheese sandwiches

Got to go have my eyeglasses checked. The screw holding one of the lenses
keeps popping out, and my left lens pops out of the frames. Should be back
in time to post supper menu.

Josie, let me second that [#welcome] to the Diner! Hopefully, CW can help you with your biscuit problem. My wife makes the biscuits in our house. If it's supposed to be fluffy or flaky, I leave it to her. I can't do biscuits or piecrust or pancakes from scratch to save my soul!

Morning,
My tummy is so rumbling, and I've got to fix the biscuits myself. Would you please tell me how, my little cousin has been utilizing my previous attempts as hockey pucks!

And, by the way, I'm using a wood stove!

Thanks, and um, I'll take some coffee while I'm waiting...

Cof...cof...cof....

Ahem.....

ok - it's official. I had the "bird" flu. It think it might have been the "Jay Flu".....well, lucky for all of us - it didn't affect my humorous.

Now have a cof...kind of a furball cof. Also have no energy, but what's new!

Coffee feels good going down; wonder what it tastes like?

But the really exciting thing is that they are doing some major construction work in our watch area. So I get trains and the Tonka Toys all at the same time. Got big piles of rocks and earth moving toys and signal bridges and wooden ties and dirt and and and...where's Matt!

Moo....[alien] - just in case someone thinks I might still be contagious!
