You know I am color blind, I can't see red.

We had rain today just as my shift started and lasing for 4 or 5 hours. I was sure glad to get home and take off my wet socks and shoes.

Been a pretty quiet Memorial Day weekend for us-mostly work in preparation of Matt's HS graduation and party in a couple of weeks. His brother and sister will be in with their families and part of the work is getting the house ready for toddlers. Then there is a seemingly endless list of other things to get done. But I'll be around.

Welcome to our newest "shopper" . . . Character. Glad to have you. Your first meal is on me. [:p] We have several other railroaders in the shop, Ed from Houston, Carl from Chicago and myself. You are in good company here. Oh, I forgot Kevin, but I think he only stops in now to check out the new waitresses (like we have any new waitresses [:o)] [:D] ).

Poor Bergie, he had to work on this holiday weekend. It is a shame we have some inmature members here. But the forum is a little cleaner now than it was yesterday.

Switchfrog, if you know anything about the Kansas area you might drop by the thread started by Willy2 and leave him some helpful comments.

Mudchicken, you can stop by too. I am sure Willy could use any and all help.

Good Monday morning, everyone! Well, it's going to be another HOT day
here. Our high yesterday reached 90 degrees, and it's to be the same today: 90
degrees. We had a thundershower yesterday afternoon, and will probably get
another one this afternoon.

Character, [#welcome] to the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop! Hope you come
in often, and enjoy a slice of chocolate birthday cake, my treat, to welcome you
here.

Mutt and I watched the Memorial Day Concert on our local PBS station last night.
It was awesome, as usual. Going to have to find a Big and Rich cd with the song
they sang last night, about a Vietman veteran: "1965, the 8th of November." That
was a very good song. Very poignant.

Breakfast this morning: I've made plenty of biscuits and sausage, so you can take
them with you wherever you go today.

Later on, about 4 p.m. EDT, we'll fire up the grill for some burgers, hot dogs, etc.
for supper tonight.

Good holiday morning, everyone- well, I'm ready to go, just waiting for Joanie and Heidi, then it's off to the cemetery.

I hope Houston Ed is staying dry, sounds like it's their turn to experience flooding according to the Weather Channel. We might get some interesting weather here later, so we'll be keeping a wary eye on the sky. TTYL!

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, it's been a good one- I grilled T-bones for lunch, my daughter came home this afternoon and made me some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and we went to a graduation party this afternoon and visited with most of Joanie's family.

Excellent roast beef hash- a great fini***o a good day. OK, get that fire extinguisher ready... light 'em up!

We've made plans to attend the local military rites tomorrow morning where Joanie's father is buried, followed by brunch with her family.

Roast beef after a long day on the railroad. Sounds good to me!

Day two of volunteering on the Adirondack is under my belt. One thing has become very apparent - no two loads of passengers are the same. Some are active and interested, some groups are just along for the ride. The baggage car has both doors open (and fenced) and is a popular place to ride. On the second run today, it was almost empty...

Many folks are interested in the line, its history, its future. Others are interested in the cars, or the scenery. One woman asked me about the life of brake shoes - she thought the squealing wheels was due to the brakes, as opposed to flanges and the different radii of the two rails. (That I could answer her question is due very much to discussions we've had here on the forums!)

We do get some fans - I provided scanner info to one young man today, and a young lady from Florida snapped pictures and asked questions in the baggage car while her partner dozed in a reclining seat in the coach. Two fellows who rode Saturday's first trip were seen trackside on the second trip, shooting photos.

There's a lot I can't do - I'm not yet rules qualified. But our conductor is a rules fanatic, and is also a good teacher. She has the trainmen using hand signals for the runarounds, and is keen to point out what's important.

One more day this weekend (the flags and bunting for the engine are on the desk at the station), and maybe next weekend, then I've got a "million" other things to do for a few weeks before I can run again...

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day (or as your grandparents probably remember it, Decoration Day) and remember why we have the holiday in the first place.

Sorry I'm late- any supreme left? Had a very enjoyable day helping serve at one graduation party, then hitting another one, in spite of the light showers and windy conditions. At least it didn't get nearly as warm as they were predicting. Tomorrow I guess will be a different story, as hot temps are a pretty sure bet.

Hey Randy, bring any chocolate for the rest of us?[:D]
