Rest? Actually, it looks like the firematics tournament tomorrow will get rained out, and I really don't have to be there anyhow. Will make for a good down day, although I do have a few more flowers to plant, maybe between the raindrops.

This is going to be a very busy summer.

Daughter has most likely moved wedding back to October (there was talk of mid-September for a bit) - They're having a devil of a time finding a place for the reception and getting everything coordinated. She wants a fall wedding, and doesn't want to wait a year to have it.

Well,

Tis the end of the day...at least as an estimator. I've donned the my apron, and will be out grilling up orders here.

Meanwhile, while heading back into work, saw a couple interesting things while on the Park Ave. bridge. BNSF had a brand spanking new set of 70 ACe's out, as well as a Blue/Yellow Santa Fe B30-7 (I think...something with a Pug nose), something 2nd gen EMD looking in Cascade green and a Ferromex SD-something or other (I think it was a 40-2). Sorry I can't describe it any better...too much traffic getting onto I-70.

Oh well...if I don't catch you tonight at the grill, hope you all have a great weekend!

TTFN!

Hey Jay, take the recliner. I'm too busy lately to occupy it- started another home remodeling project last night in the basement, so now I have virtually no time for browsing when at home. And work is getting busier as well.

Well this is sort of a celebration post. [;)]

Therefore, I will have some of what CW is cooking and some of what Chris is cooking. [:p]

Congrats are in order again for Chris. He started this page.

And to keep it inline with being a railroad forum, if you are interested in the Sanfa Fe's CF-7 rebuild program of the 70s then check out the BN SF merger thread. I left 3 links there and 2 of them are very good informational links. [^]

I'm hungry, bring on that fish. [:)]

Tip Top of the Morning Everyone,

Jay, Congrats on your son's graduation. Does he have college plans?

Jim, I totally forgot about today being Friday...so here goes:

In honor of CW getting top page honors I'll be cooking (well grilling actually) tonight. We'll have Hot Dogs, Brats w/ Saur ***, Cheese/Hamburgers, and Chicken. As today is Friday, I've got a special treat. Had my buddy go fishing, and we have some very nice fre***rout from one of Colorado's beautiful lakes. They'll be grilled with and without bacon after being marinated in a lemon and pepper marinade. Sides will be beans, dill pickle spears and a fresh batch of potato salad (some with mayo and some with Miracle Whip). Dessert will be fresh apple pie with homemade vanilla ice cream (ice cream courtesy of my cousin). Drinks will be sun tea (sweet tea and regular) and homemade lemonade.

Sound good everyone?

Jim, you're in luck: our FRIDAY FISH FRY is now under way. The fish on the
menu today: cod, haddock, perch, catfish and walleye. Also have butterfly shrimp,
popcorn shrimp, and clams. Sorry, but the fish market was out of scallops. Should
have them in for next Friday, though. Also have fries, hushpuppies and cole slaw.

Chris, I'm looking forward to your potato salad for supper tonight. I'll take that with
my fish sandwich tonight.

Good Morning All

It is hot and dry in Arkansas this week. It was 95 yesterday and headed there again today. We have dried out from our rain and the grass is dying again. We are 1/2 inch below normal for our rainfall for the year.

I am drinking coffee this morning and will be drinking Gatorade this afternoon. [:p] But I like Gatorade so that is just fine with me.

CW don't forget your free meal for starting the page. [:D] This would be a good night for it. Friday is Fish (and seafood night) so that is tops in my book. [:D] I like a variety of fish, scallops, shrimp and clams. I do not like lobster tho. [:0] I tried Gator once and it was tough and rubbery. [:(!] I would love to go to New England and have a bowl of real New England Clam Chowder and a nice variety of their seafood.

Is it me or are the days and weeks just flying by now? [B)] [8]

Got the last of the brood out of high school last night. The kid did allright. His mother and siblings got him a nice luggage set. I told him I'd help him pack. (kidding, of course.)

Throwing a little graduation party for him tomorrow, with family and friends coming in. Cast of thousands. Haven't had so much fun since we fed the Army. Was thinking about just using the carry out service from the DD&CS, but I am not sertain that the guest would get the concept. After that I will be looking for a good place to take a nap myself. The hammock users don't have to worry, I don't care for hammocks. I figure that by now Kevin has sunk so far between the cushions on the couch, that one could take a good nap there and not even notice he was anywhere around.

Just got marching orders...

Saw one years ago where they used a quarter beer keg instead of a tetherball. And big lines. Quite the contest!

I'll take that pork chop with some mashed spuds (with gravy) and some potato salad, too.

Mom always made her salads with Miracle Whip. My kids won't eat the stuff. I still like it, though.

For potato salad with a little kick, use some spicy mustard!

Afternoon all,

We got rained on! Woo hoo! It was such a novel experience that I actually had to go out and get myself soaked in it! And there was much rejoicing!

CW, now that Jim has taught me how to make Potato Salad and Macaroni Salad (thanks Jim!) I'll take care of supper tomorrow night in honor of your free meal ticket. So no worries about that meal tomorrow!

Chris & Jim, thanks for the "congrats." Didn't know I started a new page: thought I
was on the bottom of 709!!

Our lunch of the open-faced roast beef sandwiches is now ready.

Supper tonight: fried pork chops w/your choice of mashed taters and gravy, or
seasoned rice w/herbs. Just might make up some potato salad, for an extra
side dish. ( I make mine with Kraft Miracle Whip Salad Dressing and a tad bit
of mustard, to give it a little color.)

Mutt - no ceiling plaster yet. But they must have a whole house full of cracked doors.
Seems to go with that side of the duplex.....

Jim - we used to do Monte Cristos...I put them in the same category as waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce over the whole thing - GAG!

And they always thought I was 1/2 story short cuz I liked my patty melt dunked in blueberry syrup. Yum!

Good Morning All

Well today is again . . . my Monday. [:(]

Chris [^]

Potato Salad is easy to make. Just boil your potatoes, boil some eggs (hard boiled), dice you cooled potatoes into bite sized chunks, dice the eggs, add pickle relish (I use sweet relish), and add mayonnaise. That is a basic potato salad. You can add many other things to suit your taste such as a diced apple, celery, bacon bits, some people add mustard, and you can even add a small package of green peas and carrots to give it a little color. Some people actually ma***he potatoes and have mashed potatoe salad. It is ok too.

You can make a macaroni salad pretty much the same way, or a pasta salad too. Both of these are good also. Actually a pasta salad sounds pretty good right now. [:p]

Somehow I knew that CW would have the top of the page today. Congrats CW [:)] .

One time when I worked as a cook in a restaurant we made a Monte Christo sandwich. The odd thing about this sandwich was that it was dipped in a egg batter and cooked over the fire just before serving. Another thing I had to make was a "Chick" [:D] [:o)] [:D] Pea salad. Don't worry MC, your safe on this one. Some of you probally know Chick Peas as Garbanzo Beans. [:)] They are a marble sized brown peas that are very dry. I always pass on eating a Chick Pea salad.

Well Everyone Take Care

Chris; don't know if our "severe weather" is/has been any worse than normal (?)
this year, but last nights storms sort of dropped down from the north west into
our area making it a "bit" rougher than normal. Generally speaking, all of our
storms come in from the west and south west. As far as right here, sometimes
the Ohio River really does make the exact dividing line. Last night, anything right
on,and south of the river basically just had strong gusty winds and heavy rain;
although several local fire departments had reports of lightning striking several
structures. North of the river there were several reportsof funnel clouds (no confirmation)
and some severe wind damage.

Mutt / CW - Glad you guys made through the storms without any problems. Is it me, or has there been a lot more Severe Weather out east this year? I guess it makes sense. The Jet Stream that refuses to let us see very much in the way of anything but hot, dry high pressure is the same one that keeps pushing the storm track your way. Sigh...if only I could lasso that bugger and change it's path a bit we could change the weather for a lot of folks.

Mutt / Mook - Thanks for the comments on the picture. [:I] I was going to be taking this one down soon for another one. It's going to be hard to get rid of this one, though!

CW - You were the winner of the Top Of the Page Free Meal Giveaway! Congratulations! So I guess that means that we will all have to don the cook's uniform for one of these meals. I could break out the grill and do some Brats (with the prerequisite Saur *** of course) / Dogs / Burgers / and maybe even Chicken ([:O] Sorry MC!) for supper. Sides would be dill pickles, potato salad (sorry...might have to get this from the store...have never made this), and beans. To drink I've got some sun tea (both sweet tea and regular) as well as some homemade lemonade. Sound good?

Well all, have to be about my business. Hope you all have a great day!

I'd like to thank y'all for the kind gift of rain you sent us for the weekend......[V]

No hard feelings, though. It probably means I can stay in and not worry about some of the stuff I was going to have to do - like officiate a waterball* tournament and deal with a parade. The recliner sounds much more inviting....

I'll have my usual.

*Waterball - two teams of from three to five players use fire hoses to push a tetherball along a 100' long wire, with the goal to pu***he ball all the way to the opponents end. Best of three games per match, expecting 20 teams, double elimination, so ~40 matches, up to 120 games. Wet.

Good Thursday morning all! Well, didn't see anything messed up in the yard this
morning, from last night's storms. Thank goodness for that. Cooled the temp really
good; made for some great sleeping last night.

Joe, thank you for getting the coffee going, and making the juice. Been trying to
get in here for 15-20 minutes. Seems like Trains computers are really running
slow this morning.

Breakfast: bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, and biscuits.

Lunch today: open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters and gravy,
with green beans and tossed salad.
