Good Afternoon Everyone: I just stopped in after leaving the coffee shop over in the MR forum. Happy to see a few familiar faces here.

The reason I stopped in was to ask if anyone had any information on when and what route the Chinese steam locomotives were going to take north. I live just west of Ft. Worth and if they are going to come through there I'd make an effort to get to see them. If you would drop me a note, please. I'll stop in once in a while to see what is cooking.

Thanks

You have complete access to my virtual checkbook (which has tons more money than my real checkbook).

Rather than separate families in separate rooms, let's just build them as suites - Open balcony and sitting room overlooking the tracks, with other rooms for non-railfans complete with comfortable seating for reading, video games (all rooms will also have MSTS and TRS2006 installed as well - with Rail Driver console, for those lapses in real action). A scanner in each room will pipe in radio traffic, and a map of tracks in the area will be prominently displayed.

The walkway between the hotel and the DD&CS can be built in the manner of platform canopies, to maintain that railroad feel.

Can't forget the viewing platform with ample locations for setting up cameras, and a webcam or two so those of us who can't be there just now can check in on the action.

I have been thinking about the pool and perhaps some other improvements to our property. Actually maybe a complete redo. It would take a large amount of virtual money from the large virtual profits of the DD&CS, and we may have to kick in some of our vast virtual wealth to get the job done, but here goes.

Completely restore the depot to its historic as new state.
Rebuild the passenger platforms with hidden hydralic lift systems so that there will be ADA compliance no matter what type of equipment is used with our passenger service. (That lets us not be held up by the FRA while those [:o)][:o)][:o)] try to figure out a standard platform height configuration that will work for every passenger car type now in use.)
Set well back and off to the side, build a first class motel in an archetectural style of the depot. Ample number of rooms with great views of the railroad, soundproof rooms on the street side for non-railfan spouses and children.
Between the motel and the tracks a landscaped area with a fountain and patios for seating, viewing and outside dining. Further off to the side the pool, maybe tennis courts, a rec area for younger children with extremly attractive fencing for safety.

Pets allowed! Huge discounts for train crews and forum members.

Heck, the total cost would be much less than rebuilding the MILW PNC extension.

One more idea. We relocate the Mall of America about 10-15 miles away with The Hiawatha Light Rail line providing service between there and the Depot. That takes care of the teenagers in our family. "Mom, Dad, when are we going back that train place you guys like so much?"

(The last few brain cells are now shutting down for the weekend. Have a good one.)

Rain - Let me tell you! We got lots of lightning and 1.2 inches of rain, with .7 of that coming in just one hour! Kinda overcast right now, but nice. Might even be able to mow a little later.

Pizza sounds good for tonight! Daughter is here this weekend, though, so I'll probably grab one to go.

Mornin' All

Joe, I will gladly trade Matt some fries for a piece of that cake. [:p]

It is raining here right now. [V] I will have to wear my clown suit (maybe) tonight at work. [:(!] I don't like wearing it. Not only does it make you look like a clown, but you get as wet wearing it (from sweating in it) as if you didn't wear it. [:(!]

I am keeping an eye out for Ed's Chinese steam engines. I think they have left Texas but not sure which way they are going.

Good morning, all. Going to be very hot and humid here today. High at least 90.
We might get some rain tomorrow.

The coffee is ready, and the juice is made. Saturday brunch is on the warmer bar:
bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and pancakes w/syrup.

Everyone have a great day, and be back here around 6:30 for the Saturday Night
Pizza Fest

Good thing Jim brought this back up toward the top - I need a snack before I head back to bed. Had to attend to a citizen with severe pain. Helped load her in the ambulance and came home. Think I'll listen to the thunder for a few minutes before I crash again.

Pool sounds good! I'll probably take the 3rd off (work will be dead that day), and may even go run on the Adirondack that day. The Fourth I already have off. Time for fireworks on the St Lawrence. I usually get a front row seat in one of the fireboats...

Glad everyone enjoyed the fish for lunch today. Got the same thing for supper
tonight (for the ones who couldn't make it in at lunchtime). But it'll all be fixed on
the grill, and we'll pull the awning out over patio, where we can sit and watch
the trains go by.

Dessert tonight: chocolate cake, chocolate brownies, and homemade ice
cream

My dad and I could excavate for the pool....... If you can call using a moldboard plow and a Bobcat excavation! (That's how my parents pool got dug into the hillside!) I'm sure we could call up Water Warehouse and get one shipped in a day (could even pick the sucker up, my parents and Jay are close by one of the warehouses).

High of the day so far is 87 in Madison, and the air is a little thick here, not looking forward to work on Monday, Thursday was a bit warm in the shop.

Going to Tomah with a friend a week from today fo the NTPA Grand National tractor pull, went last year and enjoyed it, action was really good. Just have to remember earplugs this year, them racing engines and jet tractors are LOUD!!

Lessee, it's Friday, It's Wisconsin..... I'll take the fish fry and fixins!

Afternoon All

Mookie started the previous page and railfan started this one. They both get free dinners in the diner. [;)]

Our temps are in the low 90s today with a slight wind. Rain is predicted for Saturday. [:(] I am in the truck on the weekends so it is not a good day for me for it to rain.

Well I have to run.

Chris, saw in our paper today where Colorado was still under
extreme fire danger........would say we would try to send you all
some moisture, but I think we're supposed to be in the 90s the
next several days, with higher humidity to go along with.[V]

Don't think we'll have anything to send, other than "the heat of the day"
"pop-up" showers,if any.

CW says she has two fryers going with fish (cod) and there's some
halibut, perch & trout on the grill cooking.(along with potatos, corn on the cob,
peppers,etc.)
There are also plenty of different kinds of sandwiches and garden salads
for any one that wants them.
(eventhough it's Fri.,we do have other foods on the menu besides fish.[:)] )

Good Morning All,

Well what a treat we have in store here in Denver today! It's only going to be in the 70's! Of course, it's only going to last a day, but that's alright. I'll take what I can get right now!

Guess I must be off to work here. Hope you all have a great day!

Busiest time seems to be supper time! Do firefighters ever really get to sit down and eat a meal?

First time in a while I can remember this monthly event being interrupted.

Newpaper article featured the quick hit - especially important because a several years ago they lost a whole block in this particular town...

Good Friday morning, everyone. As Joe said, it's going to be a 3H day today.
Maybe we'll have people in here, so they can keep cool!!

We have muffins and doughnuts for breakfast this morning. Joe, thank you!!
That coffee is really waking me up this morning!!

Spent two hours over at my neighbor's house yesterday afternoon. Was trying
to clear someone else name and password out of her laptop. Looks like the
person who cleared everything that was on it, when she got it, cleared it all right:
then he set it up for himself to use, and locked all the folders and everything, so
that now that she has it back, she can't use it!! Boy, is she peeved off at him!!
It's an IBM laptop, with Windows 95.

Everyone have a great day, and stay safe out there.

RF619 - If it has keys, it works. On the other hand, I still can't get used to those V-shaped "ergonomic" keyboards.

Fire Chief's dinner was good - charbroiled steaks, baked potatoes, ice cream for dessert. On the other hand, that chicken and dumplings wouldn't have been a bad choice.
