Cool it with the candles, please. Tree doesn't have enough fire trucks handy to put them out.

Gotta go out and cut (bale?) the grass, then go to work this afternoon.

What do you mean, "Cool it with the candles"?  You don't have quite as many candles as some of the rest of us!Laugh Smile,Wink, & Grin

For mudchicken's birthday dinner, we have:  Steaks w/baked potatoes, green beans, asparagas, salad, homemade dinner rolls, and real butter.  Guess we'll have the birthday dessert later, as I haven't heard yet,  from Sir C, on what he'd like for dessert.

CW forgot to mention the drinks for MC's Birthday Bash;

there will be plenty of Gatorade, along with "Sweet Tea"!! Wink

(other drinks available upon request!)

Hey, I pumped around 20,000 gallons of water this morning backflushing one of our dry hydrants.   A few candles is no problem!

Happy Birthday, MC!

Mudchicken, hope you enjoyed your birthday dinner, and guess you'll have your cake when you get home tonight?  Take care at work tonight.

I've got another round of steaks, baked potatoes, green beans, asparagus, garden salad ready for you all for tonight.  Joe, have a container ready for you to take to work tonight, also.

We didn't make it to the 90 degrees today:  our official high is 88, and is supposedly now 83 degrees.  Still been quite warm here today.

Everyone enjoy your dinner, and have a great evening.  Take care, all of you.

Nap sounds good, but I've got work to do.

Right after I finish my bearclaw.

Found a message on my answering machine last night.  Sounded like my son in the background, and my granddaughter could be heard, too.

I figured she got one of their phones and managed to pull up my number (not hard if that was the last number called).  Turns out she was playing with her mom's phone (with supervision), chattering away.   Her dad decided to dial up my house, but once Evie heard my voice on the phone (the recording) she clammed right up.  I checked the caller ID and found who had called, so I called back and found out what happened.   Kids...

Allerlei

I’ve been out of touch for a while, so I am responding to several posts with one.

Tree, watch about youngsters and telephones. I think it was last year that Ricki’s younger daughter, Ginny, called her–and after they had finished talking, the two-year-old, imitating Mama, called again; she probably used the redial button.

Willy2, that's a good picture. Did you stay in the Hotel Colorado when you were in Glenwood Springs? We had seen it several times when we passing through on the CZ, and we stayed there two years ago. It’s a pretty nice hotel, and it sends a car to the station to pick up anyone who may want to stay there (and the car will take you back when you have to go). It’s beautiful country through there, especially when you look out one side and you have to look straight up, and you look out the other side and look way down to the Colorado.

CW, I hope you did not try to borrow the ladder when Walt or Sarah was up on it. You know, "Do you have a good hold on that paint brush, I need to borrow this ladder for a while."

Bubba, I’m trust that your Mom is still improving after her operation, and that your Grandma is doing well with the stent in her carotid artery (stents had not been invented when I was your age, and carotid was not in the usual teenager’s vocabulary). Your Grandpa is doing better? As to hospital food, I had quite an experience with it this past week. Wednesday, I stopped painting the eaves because it began to rain, and I took my long, wood, ladder down so it would not get wet. Not long after that, I developed a severe pain in my lower right abdomen, and Ricki took me to the local hospital (about three miles from home). That night, a surgeon went into me and removed a short section of small intestine that had rejected all efforts to push it back where it belonged. Between then and last night, when Ricki brought me back home, I was given some of the worst food I had ever tasted–among other items, the cream of chicken soup tasted more like tin can than anything else. I’m supposed to eat lots of gelatin, but I can easily pass on that. Ginny brought some ham? pork? fried rice out this afternoon, it was the first thing that had really tasted good. Katie, the older daughter, came over yesterday afternoon and cut the grass for me. Our head elder has spoken of getting a painting party put together to finish the job for me.

Mutt, as to high school graduations outdoors, I remember a couple of them (mine was indoors). When I was in Reform, Alabama, I was asked to preach the baccalaureate service one year, and I agreed. I tried to keep the message short, so that the people assembled in the stands would not suffer from the chill (it is still chilly in the evenings in west central Alabama at this time of the year). A year or two later, another local pastor was preaching, and when he began repeating himself the third time, I was tempted to reach up and catch his coattail (I was sitting somewhat behind him), and pull him back to his chair.

Willy2 again–don’t drink and try to integrate at the same time; you might forget your constants.

Mudchicken–are you expecting Roman candles on your cake? They might call for more water than ordinary candles would.

We stayed at the Best Western when we were in Glenwood Springs. It was a very nice motel and Glenwood Springs itself was nice too. Did you go to Glenwood Caverns when you were there?

The graduation party was a great success. The weather stayed nice and lots of people came. Tomorrow I begin the labor of writing thank you notes.

More storms are on the way for tonight. We've had a total of 2.30 inches of rain over the last two nights and I expect that we'll add up to an inch to that tonight.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Sounds like everyone had a great weekend, especially Willy, what with graduating, and the party afterwards.

Mudchicken, hope you had a very good birthday yesterday!

Coffee, juices, hot water for tea and iced tea, lemonade, Gatorade and fruit punch are all ready this morning.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, biscuits & gravy, cantaloupe, watermelon, mangos and fresh strawberries.

Over the weekend, was our annual WHAS 11 Crusade for Children telethon.  Even with this hard economic time, the firefighters and communities did good:  they ended the telethon with a $40,000 increase over last year's total.   That will certainly help a lot of special needs kids in the Kentucky/Southern Indiana area!! Thumbs Up

Do I have any suggestions for lunch and supper menus today?  I'm taking requests this morning.

A little late joining the conversation this morning....Up very early as wife Jean was scheduled for eye surgery {cataract removal} at 6:30 am.

Back home by 9 am.  Everything seemed to go as planned and she's resting comfortably now

Belated birthday greetings to M C.

Off and on sunshine here in central Indiana this morning.  Possibly some thunder boomers later in the afternoon.

Muncie paper {today}, has front page article of "Waiting for Trains"....Those who can, and are interested....Pull up the article in "TheStarPress".  Seems to create such a fuss here among some citizens re: trains blocking streets especially on the Frankfort line of NS in the western sector of Muncie.  There is a situation where trains must stop and wait to move across the diamond {at CSX main}, to continue south and some switching done in that area too.

The article is written in the typical fashion when the Press writes of RR's, etc....Each can form their own thoughts on it.  The RR has been there for roughly 100 years so believe it should have some operating "rights"....Just my My 2 cents

I totally agree Quintion. The Wabash was there first so don't gripe about it. I'm sure there are more way's to get around the crossing. (meaning other streets of courseWink)

A big storm just moved through. Lots of lighning and it was accompoinied by lots and LOTS! OF MUISIC.Headphones

CW, The biscuts and gravey were delicious! I have a suggestion for supper, Country fried steak with white or brown gravey, smashed potatoes w/your choice of gravy. for desert how about some root beer floats!Dinner

Larry, how does one pump water from a dry hydrant?

A dry hydrant is a permanently installed suction "hose", placed such that a fire engine can easily access it.  Lakes, ponds, and rivers are the usual locations.

They are called "dry" because they are not pressurized like a regular municipal fire hydrant.

Dry hydrants allow year-round access to such water sources in areas where they routinely freeze over, as well as places where the water source is not accessible to vehicles (ie, too far off the road).

We have two we maintain, and we routinely back-flush them to clear out any silt that may have found its way into the pipes.

Quentin - those cataract surgeries go pretty fast.  Driver had one eye done and it took longer to get from the parking lot back to the outpatient room than the actual surgery.  I took a book and a newspaper and didn't get either one of them open.

Hey - Sir Feathers - I have a job for you in retirement!  Your favorite B & B is, I think, for sale.  We went by kind of fast, but since there is no election right now, it wasn't a political sign - think it was a for sale sign.  You and Boss Hen could work together and invite your close forum friends over for jama parties!  I would even be #1 pet pet...r!

CW - I would like a strawberry shake for supper.  Dinner  It is very cool here, but that still sounds like a good supper!  OK - maybe a hotdog on the side?  (I bet Matt will join me in a heartbeat!)

Thanks for the supper suggestions Justin and Mookie.  Here's tonight's menu:

1.  country fried steak w/mashed taters & brown gravy, green beans, corn, baked tomato pie (tomatoes w/homemade biscuits and gran.sugar, baked in the oven), and fresh garden salad.

2.  Hot dogs w/every topping imaginable

Desserts:  root beer floats and strawberry shakes

Everyone have a great evening, and if you're in the areas for the showers/t-showers, be careful.  Take care, everyone!

Mooks - If the gnomes with the little ball pein hammers get any closer to our neighborhood (with or without those tornady thingies), BossHen might consider it. Sure they weren't getting re-roofed or painted? Da' Boyz wouldn't mind the attention. Doogie might even stop stalking Rocky Raccoon every night.

One of our company trucks is now a rolling dent & broken glass exhibit.

(Then again we'd be 550 miles closer to the corporate mothership - really bad sales point.)

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  Here in Louisville, we have a warm, muggy temp of 75 degrees this morning.  About a 30% chance of on again, off again showers for the day.

Quentin, tell Jean to take care, and I'm sure she'll soon be seeing things better than ever!

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, iced tea (sweetened and unsweetened), and hot water for hot tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, and omelettes this morning, along with fresh cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.

After Tueday Produce, I will immediately go to the surgeon who did my knee surgery.  Still having some trouble with the ankle/arch support, so going to go see him, about what we can do about getting it fitted, or whatever, so that I can actually walk without the support rubbing a raw spot on my foot.  But, there'll be a tray of cold cuts in the fridge for you all to have for lunch, and after I get home, I'll start fixing everything for our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta for tonight.

Mookie:  I've got your coffee mug on the counter, and it's ready for coffee to poured into it for you.

Everyone have a good day, and I'll see you all sometime late afternoon.  Everyone take care!

Hmm - Cold cuts - Sounds like the makings of a ham & swiss on rye!  Sweet tea is always a winner, too.

Wet overnight - about 1/3" of rain.  Looks like more for today.  Aside from that, all's quiet on the northern front.

I am still working on getting ready for my yard sale this weekend.  I'm starting to subscribe to the "simplify your life" concept, and the first thing I need to do is get rid of a lot of clutter.  Hopefully it'll turn into cash.

Good morning and peace be with you. 70 degrees and pea soup fog in Carolina this morning, headed for 91 and, of course, more thunder later and tonight, Paula, I hope you can get some relief from that brace. Those things can be hard to be made comfortable. Could we have some fudge cake for dessert later? I have had a taste for some for quite a while. Thanks, and everybody take care

yowwww - Tom is singing mah song!  Can we have dessert for breakfast?  (Tom, I do like your taste!)

MC - as long as it wasn't Lurch.  Did one of those Nebraska straight windnados get the truck?  You could do the B & B after you turn in your restroom key to the mothership.  Now that you are "older" you really need to think about the future, especially since 401 is now 99.  Sigh

Tree - if you have an SD70MAC in your sale, I might be interested.....priced reasonably for a fellow forum member, of course.

CW - getting cloudy - drink fast!  In fact, probably shouldn't even sit down in garden; just stand on porch!

Morning all!

Thanks for supper CW! It was good. I had some but didn't post because me and Andy Cummings were having a conversation. It was gooood! I just got up at a quarter till this morning. Wow I slept like a rock! A muggy 67 here. I got a RRx-ng sighn last night. A real one! It is fairly heavy, so it will have to stay in the garage for time being.

Well, have a wonderfull day everyone and I will see you later on!

.....Lots of active members in here this morning.  Finally, about an hour ago the sun broke thru...lots of soup before that.  Was beginning to wonder if we were going to have a nice day as forecast.  Getting muggy too....True Indiana Summer stuff....

Jean {CW}, is still doing quite well with the eye surgery....We stop into the clinic today at one for a check up.  From what she is saying, believe it will make a  great difference.  Then when both eyes are complete and healed, we can go for the new glasses and that should really be a great inprovement.

Watched another NS train slip by last night at McD's as a bit of snack was being consumed....Again, lots of tank cars in consist....and still more corn syrup.  Other liquids and or slurries too.  And the usual covered hoppers.

Lurch was not attacked by the gnomes, but is in the shop today (another Ford in the assumed position, typical)....We had 5 confirmed tornado funnel sightings Sunday, all were the pencil thin F1.0 kind. The damaged truck was about a mile from the shopping center and Lowe's that got roughed-up in the far eastern 'burbs. The damaged truck's replacement had just been placed in the office garage on Friday with 16 miles on it. It may get placed in service a little faster than anticipated.
