Howdy do. 81 and clear in Carolina, with a high guess of 96 and heat index of 103.... last week was interesting. Three more celebrities passed away, including Gale Storm. She was always so bubbly and perky in My Little Margie. Couple it to the first three (Ed, Farrah and Michael), it was a big loss to the enrtertainment industry. Everybody take care and stay cool.

Ah - an open place in the corner where I can sit and mumble to myself and read the headlines.

Then there were 5.  Ed, Farrah, Michael, Billy and Margie.  Since they group in 3's - wonder who will be the next one.

All the Michael hype is getting a little overdone.  Good music but not sure he was worthy of all the hours of news media.  Maybe a diversion for awhile from all the politics.

Billy - well never like to hear of death at a young age, but at least I won't have to continually mute/turn down the volume on the tv.  Now if they would just "remove" the "insurance girl" in the white and blue commercial.  The gecko is tolerable.

Bernie will be renting new digs today.  Him they put in jail.  Wall street still giving out bonuses.  Not too sure.....

Have noticed BNSF picking up some new coal car markings.  Not sure quite why, but seeing several new marks I have never seen before - for the last 6 mos or so.  Maybe the BNSF & UP are "blending".

Traffic on rails up slightly here in true midwest.  My own observations and that of a gentleman that spends each day trackside - and in different locations watching BNSF.  He keeps good records, so he compares with what I thought I was seeing.

Wall-to-wall nice weather here for the next week.  No moisture predicted.  Nothing to send east but sunshine and moderate temps.

Now need to put paper in bottom of Sir Chicken's bird cage.....

Too late Mooks...smelly stuff hit the floor and the fan....

Worked Friday and part of Saturday AM on a project (a big retail mall) where the bank and the owner stopped work about 11AM Saturday....they changed their mind and cancelled the contract. Strange, Wierd and I hope we get paid.

MC - watched a device very much like the one in your avatar at work last night at the accident.  Cops set it up in the middle of the road and shot all the skid marks, landmarks, vehicle locations, and anything else they could think of with it.  They'll dump it later and use it to reconstruct the scene on paper.

Pretty spiffy, even if the reason wasn't.

Tree: Robot or manual? (If it was a robot, there would be no man behind the gun and it would follow sombody around with a special prism pole that blinked while dancing on its own...Pictured is a Trimble/Geodimeter 5600 which is both and can locate objects without a prism (reflectorless).....and is now semi-obsolete.).....To quote my Denver detective neighbor accross the street, "hope the operator and the machine don't get into a war of wits!"Big Smile

That one I missed....{Gale Storm}....Boy, we've lost quite a few in one week.  And Jen...Don't you like the cute little "gecko"....I marvel at the accuracy of the computer derived character's movements....Example:  When they show a close up of his face and he's adjusting his glasses...Right on in movements and so on....And especially like the one where he put the "saved dollar" into the vending machine and then sheepishly offered the man behind the desk...."Want some chips"...?

Anyway....Have made some headway on shrub trimming today....Hope to do a bit more yet...Nice cool breeze here today.  Pretty sunshine too.

Edit: M C....Has that instrument just been added to your avatar....?  I have never noticed it there before.....{Just since Larry mentioned it}.

Manual (about $15K worth).  Two deputies tag-teamed with two reflectors while the operator aimed, shot, and labelled each point.  The software they use will "connect the dots" of like-labelled points, drawing a nice picture of the scene, skid marks, etc.

They aren't very used to it yet - lots of references to the "cheat sheet."

Looks like we're having a pretty good turn out in here this morning.  Good!!!!

With all the celebrity deaths in the last few days, it does make you wonder, "Who is going to be next?"   I know Harry Morgan (The Spring Byington Show, Pete & Gladys, Dragnet, M*A*S*H) is in his 90s, always wonder when we'll hear he's gone on to his reward, and there's probably a few other older celebs that I can't think of right now.  Of course, it could be another 'youngster' to go unexpectedly, too.  It just makes you realize that none of us know when our last day on earth will be.  None of us should take a single day for granted.

Lunch and supper menu will be leftover roast, taters, carrots, etc. from Sunday Dinner.  I had two extra large Crock Pots going yesterday, so there is plenty for today's meal, and there could also be open-face roast beef sandwiches for later tonight.

Everyone enjoy this cooler weather, have a good afternoon, and take care.

I seem to have lost a post! Anyway, there are now 6 recently deceased celebs. The latest was comedian Fred Travalena who passed away yesterday. I had a crown lift off over the weekend, so tomorrow is dentist day, oh joy oh joy!  Currently 91 here

Then we went to the grocery store. then got my hair cut... Wow! Weve been on the go all day. Mom is pooped. In the mail this morning we got our Colorado visitors guide. Also Larry, Dad got his certificate for passing his mandatory firemans exam! Now he just has to be voted in. A really nice day today. 81* right now. Coll breeze blowing in the dor right now.

Also I went to an antique shoppe today, and found 2 NS papers from the 90's. One is to an engineer who was being invesagated for running over a derail at Lafayette IN. And the other is for some emploee plan. I will post a thred on the forum of what thay said. I have some Q's about it.

Summer is at last arriving at the Crossroads of the West--it was up to 93 by one this afternoon.

Quentin, yesterday morning I asked another man who lives next to a golf course if he had troubles with migrating moles, and he said he did not. He did speak of gophers (I have heard that gopher-killing clubs are sold; you stand by a hole in the ground and wait until a gopher sticks its head out and then you swing at it; you can also buy little balls to hit with those clubs--perhaps you might hit and kill a gopher if one of the balls goes into a gopher hole). He did mention another way to get rid of moles: put Juicy Fruit chewing gum out where they can get to it (I think you will have bury it at the right depth). It seems that moles like that particular flavor and chew it. Since no one taught them to spit the gum out, they swallow it, it stops them up, and then they stop.

Johnny, I have no idea if the golf course has any effect on a place moles care to rome....But I'll say this:  All the tunnels I have fought with, are very close to where my back yard does connect to the Fairway.

Item:  Stand next to a mole tunnel...{easy to see as it's raised up a few inches.....}, and watch for movement.  This has allowed me to "get" several by seeing the movement, and deleting them with the deleting tool.

I believe I have possibly one remaining.  Seems to be action under an evergreen tree {mine}, and a few tunnels reach out from it.  Watched for several minutes several times today, but witnessed no action.  No new tunnels are being bored.....I actually believe I have them all but, possibly  one, maybe two.  We will win this battle eventually.

Today, I was busy trimming shrubs....Beautiful temps today....and low humidity, and I got about half of them all trimmed up nice and smooth.  Hopefully, tomorrow I can complete the job.  To have reasonable temps and humidity until the end of the week.  But oh it's sure is getting dry.  Need rain.

Have a good day!

Justin, thank you so much for coming in so early, and fixing breakfast!!  I did fix the coffee though, and put hot water on for Larry's hot tea.

I talked with my sis-in-law last night, and we have our new Baby Girl in the family:  Miranda Grace was born on 6/20/09, is 19 inches long, and weighed 8 lbs!  Mom, Dad and baby are all doing well.  I got an email from my nephew last night, with 4 pictures of Baby Miranda.  I'll see if I can post a couple of them later on today, after Tuesday Produce!  Or, maybe I can get Mutt to post them after awhile.

It's going to be another beautiful day, with a high here of about 81 degrees.  Tomorrow's supposed to be a really nice day, with a high in the low to mid 70s! I think we went back to Spring time:  and I'm all for that!!  But, I know we'll probably be back in the oven next week.

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll see you all later.

Congrats on the new arrival, Paula. She sounds like a sweetheart and will undoubtedly grow into just that. I had a co-worker who stands 6'1" and she married a guy who is 6'5". Their first child was a 10 lb girl. I told her that I lost the pool, cause I had guessed 37 inches long and 26 pounds. She was not amused.... Dentist day on a hot clear day. Currently 72 degrees and supposed to get to the mid 90s. Everybody stay safe and cool.

CW: Congrats on the new addition to your family!

On the local music front a well known gospel, jazz and blues performer, "Jackie" Washington, has passed away last week at the age of 89. His home even entertained the likes of Count Basie and Duke Ellington over the years. He had performed all over NA at various folk music festivals such as London ON's "Home County ". He was involved in our festival from its start 34 years ago and shall be sorely missed--Sigh

Thunderbumpers on the menu for today.  We could actually use a good, soaking rain.  Vacationers might not like it, but my petunias will.  Now if I could just keep it off the lawn.

CW - Congrats.  Wish I could be around the two little ones in my family to spoil them more.  I'll have to get the newest one's equivalent to the "fire helmet" picture posted.

Haven't had bisquits and gravy for breakfast in ages.  Not sure what it does for my cholesterol, but it tastes good!

A nice cool and partly sunny morning.....Need these lower temps to continue my shrub trimming, and that I will do as soon as I get off here.

Still dry here.....Radar shows nothing in Indiana an hour ago.  But pop up showers are possible any location.....We certainly do need it.  But I'd rather not have them today until outside yard work is complete.  Maybe another mowing will be done later today too.....

Johnny, I think it means photo taken with baby. I doubt she's for sale! As I said, a real sweetheart. Two hours in the dentist chair and hoo boy, I am ready for a nap. I can't have anything to eat, though, until supper, and then it's gotta be soft.

Tom, I commiserate with you. The last two times I had work done on my teeth, all I could manage at first was Instant Breakfast (which is now hard to find around here).

I started our swamp cooler about forty minutes ago, for the first time this summer.

Larry, Owen is a cutie, too, especially in the baseball glove!!

Johnny, when I talked with my sis-in-law last night, she told that when she held Miranda and started talking to her, Miranda started waving her arms all around, and looking her Grandma straight in the face.  She asked her son, "How can she be this focused and active, just being a few hours old?!?"  I wish it weren't so far to Cleveland:  I'd try to be there in a heart beat!!  Hmm, maybe I could hitch a ride with Grandma and Auntie whenever they go up next (after this weekend, when they're going back up there!

Now, on to our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta:

Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef deluxe enchilada style), Tacos (hard shell and soft shell), Chimichangas, enchiladas, Fajitas, Spanish rice, shredded lettuce w/tomatoes (onions if you want), Baja buritos, and mesquite grilled steaks and talapia.

Everyone have a great afternoon, and take care.  And thanks for your kind words!

Well it's official.

Aedan James Braun arrived at Aurora Medical Center 0653 today. Baby is doing well. Mama...not so much. Long story short...too many things went wrong. We thought we might lose her a couple times with some of the complications of what was happening (BP, resp etc).  We're not 100% out of the woods just yet and I'm going on 2 days of being up on 1.5 hours of sleep so I'm a zombie for several reasons...but she's stable in the ICU for now. Back to the Hospital shortly...any extra prayers are welcome and appreciated.

A couple of pictures from this morning.
