Bearclaw and tea, in the corner...

Was that a temporary bear's den in the corner this morning? I trust no one went in and woke the bear. Smile

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Nice and muggy this morning, with a temp of 75 degrees.  Going to about 90 today.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, fruit punch, Gatorade, iced tea and hot water for hot tea are ready.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties), scrambled or fried eggs, cantaloupe and watermelon, bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, got your coffee mug ready.

You all have a good morning, and if any of you have any meal requests for  today, let me know.

Morning well the contractors are here.they are tearing off the old roof now.

They've been working on the roof here at work - replacing the membrane and insulation.  And they're being none to gentle about it - there have been some pretty significant "bangs" when they drop stuff.  So far nothing significant has fallen off the ceiling, but I'm waiting.

Raining here today, so the roofers aren't working.  Ie, it's nice and quiet.  Smile

I laughed until I had tears over the "just married, cat adoptions, vet vists".  We got Mz Mookie shortly after we were married and went through all the horrible vet visits.  I always admired the vet being able to handle her w/o losing fingers.  She did scare a few interns, however.

Rain didn't materialize here, so sending hot, humid, sunny weather on to the rest of you.

Landlord thinks our roof may need replacing in a year or so.  Going on vacation to a motel when that happens.

Off to coffee with CW and then look for feathers left behind! Mischief

Barry - do you usually have low humidity during the warmer months?  And if you have water that close, do you have a mosquito problem?

Dead center US, we have humidity almost year 'round.  But the hotter it gets, the less the humidity, at  least in the eastern part of the state.  And while we don't have the state bird "mosquito" problem that say, Minnesota has, we do have a problem with them.  Morning paper is warning that they are comin'....

Not a drop of rain here last night, but there were some very impressive tornadoes out around Grand Island and Aurora. There's another chance of storms tonight, but it probably won't do anything.

Regarding humidity: It usually starts off humid in the morning, but as temperatures increase throughout the day, drier air mixes down toward the surface. This lowers dewpoints, thus the humidity decreases as well. It's actually a pretty good way to keep our heat indices in check during the summer.

The vet called back this morning and said that all of Chessie's tests and blood work came back and she looks healthy. The vet did recommend a few dietary changes, though.

Willy - took pills for indices once.  Blush

I just got the mail (got your note, thank you) and it is just plain hot out there.  Humidity seems to be here in house.

Chessie - female - diet - of course!  Blah!

Our day has been sunny now for several hours....Some light rain this morning and we do have possibility of scattered thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight as well.

Very nice, sunny and lot's of blue sky and warm out there now....83, but not the hot sticky stuff that was to start today.  Windows still open.

We had a real gullywasher here this morning from about 10:30 until Noon- now the sky is clear, but it's warm and humid, and the weather guessers are promising another round of nastiness for tonight.

We have a cat living with us now...He "adopted" us back around October 2007.  He's a brown tabby.  A beautiful cat that unfortunately was abandoned in the apartment complex we live in.  He is a very social cat as well.  You could come through the front door for the first time and he'll be your best friend.

He does not, however, like Vets...we take him to the Vet and he completely loses his mind.  Hissing growling and biting.  We surmise that its because of a bad Vet experience he had in the past before he became part of our family.

Computer, monitor and other electronics were turned off, and unplugged this morning:  we got a torrential downpour right about 10:30 this morning, and it didn't let up until just about noon.  Had a very pretty lightning show:  the lightning was like looking at a strobe light:  blinking off and on, really fast.  After that was over, I gathered up Mutt's and my library books and took them back to the library, and got us some new books to read.  A couple of the books weren't due until Saturday, and the others were due next Saturday.  But we had both finished reading all our books, so decided to return them and get some new ones.

Supper tonight:  sloppy joes, burgers, hot dogs, brats, fries and garden salad.

Everyone have a good evening, and take care.

A couple points about cats, cat carriers, cars, and vets -

If the only time the kitty is in the carrier and in the car is to go to the vet - how will they ever have a good experience with the carrier and the car ?

Also, if the carrier was ever used for transporting another animal (bird, dog, another cat) - the scent will likely still be there, and that just raises the cat's anxiety level.

When we got wise to all this - by then we had cat no. 2 in the house - we bought a new carrier, made of carboard that folded open and closed.  We left it out and open in the kid's playroom where the cat hung out most of the time, and put kitty treats in it once in a while.  Before too long it was the cat's favorite "house" and hang-out to sit in and meditate (or whatever it is that cats do), and she would curl up and sleep in it often enough that it became her place, with her scent.  After that, it was usually pretty easy to get her into it for trips to the vet, or elsewhere - from her standpoint, her personal house was going along with her, too.  So I'm just sayin' - think about it from the cat's point of view . . .

Yes, Chessie should be grateful. While others are going on diets, she gets to pig out a bit. I think most of the problem is that she's just finicky.

I also agree with what you said about cats and their carriers. If they have some pleasant experiences in the carrier, they'll be more likely to go easily. Maybe a trip to the train tracks to do some railfanning is what they need. Big Smile

It's currently 93 degrees with a heat index of 97 degrees here. I think that beats Justin's 81 degrees.

Mookie
Barry - do you usually have low humidity during the warmer months?  And if you have water that close, do you have a mosquito problem?

It doesn't  get quite as bad as some of you guys get there--but we do have our momentsWhistling The average July around here gives us about 10-15 days where the temperature gets to about 35C--works out to about 95F--but the humidity could be anywhere from 40% up to 80%. Depending on the wind, or lack thereof. If the humidity gets up to 70% or more well then they start saying things like "Hydrate!!Hydrate!!"---"Don't go running/jogging/walking/even sashaying---"

As for the back pond---I've gone and used insecticides/larvaecides on it---it kills them off---and we've already been a few years with that dang West Nile thing---Sigh

BTW--'Spring' is a rescued cat--we got him from a friend of ours who has had for a few years now it seems become something of a drop off point for people who dump their pets in duct taped boxes like 'Spring' was. This cat--who is the most loving/loveable little fellow we ever had--had cigarette burns and frostbite all over him when our friend got him---took him to a vet--dang cat never even flinched--he doesn't even flinch when getting his rabies shots

Unlike 'Baby' the bobcat suck who just HATED vets....funny this though--whenever I took him to vet--never fought although he would let his displeasure show by caterwaulling--if other members of family took him to the vet OY then he would---fight like----HMM-Confused

I read over Paul's reasoning and I think I like it.  Get kitty used to own house and then since you always put the house in the car to go to the vet, you get a new car each time you are going to the vet and they won't know until they get there.  (yes I was a natural blonde as a child!)  I can hardly wait to tell the Driver we are getting a new pet and a new car.  Wink

Paul's right about getting the pet used to the carrier. Even 'Baby' was used to the birdcage---mom bought it new for the cat--and all that. When we took the cat anywhere else--no problem. But it was the vet-----OY

'Spring' just curls up in the carrier and is very relaxed---even in the vets office---but then---that's 'Spring'

Good Friiidaaaaay morning, everyone!  Nice and pleasant this morning, although we do have a chance of a repeat of yesterday:  storms, rain and wind.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, iced tea and hot water for hot tea are ready.

Doughnuts, danishes, bagels, bear claws and muffins are on the warmer bar.

Mookie, here's your coffee mug, and I'll meet you out in the garden.  Anyone else care to join us, and do some train watching/talking?

Hello Americans, it's Friday. 69 and sunny at present in Carolina. Misfortunately, that's gonna change. The weather boffins are calling for a heat index of 105 with the ubiquitious lightning and severe storms that we continue to have. Yours truly, me that is, will be staying indoors under the fan and ready to take to the closet if need be... Ain't southern weather grand. I wish the legislature would outlaw such goings on and give us a respite. The A-line was busy yesterday. I am within earshot of it and there was a lot of horn blowing and rumblings yesterday afternoon, much more than usual. Perhaps business is beginning to pick up again. Hope so, Everybody stay cool and safe

Wet yesterday (same stuff that washed out the US Open), dampish today.  Working on the railroad tomorrow and they're promising thunderbumpers.  Oh, Joy.

On the way to work this morning I noticed a couple of spots where the grasses in the fields were beaten down - either heavy rain or some locally powerful winds.  No other damage evident, though.

I'll grab my bearclaw and tea and settle in for a few before I begin my day's labors.

Those clouds sure look ominous Brian...duck!

We got a bit of wind last night and then I heard thunder so I flipped on the CPU w/radar via NWS.  Apparently SE WI had quite the magnetic pull and kept all the storms down there.  So I went back to finishing the baby's room.
