Summer officially on its way - going to be in the 90's later this week.  Will send it on east!

No thanks, we're really enjoying the weather we've been getting the last month or so.  Send it back to Houston.

We're supposed to have 90 degree temps. towards the end of the week here, so it's already East; please take it back!! (and the Humidity is already there!)

As CW said, we did have some company today, a couple that I've not seen in about 25 years, was almost a Family Reunion. (he was in My National Guard unit, and we were like brothers) So it was a Very Enjoyable day around here.

A UPS question for anyone. I ordered a box of frozen Corky's BabyBacks for my Saturday family get together. The UPS Ground tracking shows depart Memphis on 6/10 at 22:05. Next entry; Arrive at Hodgkins IL on 6/11 11:48. Does that ship by truck to Chicago or by rail? Then depart Hodgkins at 22:44 and arrive in Milan IL on 6/12 at 0430. I know that leg is by truck. Then on to my house in Aledo,IL for 16:30 delivery.
The ribs were just as good as when we go to the restaurant in Memphis.

Hmmm.....  Truck breaks, forum breaks...  Coincidence?  NAH!!

Had to put the truck in the shop again, had a noise like a bearing going bad, but only under full boost.  Shop changed an idler pulley bearing that would have gone south very shortly, but truck still making noise, not as bad, though.  Will try our Cartersville, GA, shop tomorrow, after dropping some Leinies in Birmingham, AL.  Just heard we ordered 50 new Kenworth T2000s with Cummins motors, will have to see if I can get one of those trucks, this one is doing the nickel-and-dime thing to me right now.

Thanks to all for keeping this a clean family forum.  Norris, just remember, we are all insane, it's just to what degree we are that is different (many truck drivers agree with this!).

Summer time may actually be coming here. After more than two weeks of April weather, we expect the mercury to reach the eighties late this week. Also, we have had two days in a row without noticeable rain. Rain is expected tomorrow, and I hope it will be enough to let us know if the leak in the roof is fixed or not.

Randy, it sounds as though your company is doing well, and is expecting to keep you drivers on the road and not in the shop. Watch out for the crazy people on the highways.

......And our area of the midwest is to receive temps in the 90's later this week....We're ready for it.  Have not run A/C yet this season...!  That's unsual.

Rabbits...We have 3 {little ones}, that are playing each day in our yard and across the street.  This evening Jean and I were standing just outside the garage door watching them put on a show just like a bunch of kids running after each other.  Also beautiful yellow birds...4 and 5 at a time in the wild flowers we have planted at the rear corners of our place.....Beautiful birds.  They land on the tall thin flower stems and ride it all the way down almost to the patio....Doesn't seem to bother them at all.

Add to that...a few chipmonks....lots of squirrels from the big trees on the Fairway....even some deer run by {right down the Fairway}, in the Wintertime....Plus the Hummingbird action at the feeder....Seems we're almost a wild life santuary here....Fun to watch but the squirrels can be distructive.....They do seem to keep their distance from the house though and we don't  have any problem with them.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  The rain seems to be out of here, and yes, our temps will be moving upward:  just in time for the fair Saturday at the Community Center two doors and one parking lot up from our house.  I guess this will be the annual health/fun fair they normally have had on Labor Day Weekend Saturday.  The banner they put up only says "St. George's Fair, not the usual "St. George's Fun/Health Fair.  Guess I'll just have to see what all is brought in Saturday morning!

We have seen a baby rabbit around here.  Usually see it in the yard next door, or in our backyard, along with scampering around the church yard across the street.  I've never seen any other babies with it, or Mama or Papa Rabbit.  Just the baby.  He/she was in our backyard the other night, when I took Win out after she ate her supper.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced tea and hot water for hot tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  watermelon chunks, bagels, bear claws, BLTs on toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy w/homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Everyone have a great morning.  Mookie, have your coffee mug ready, and I'll meet you in the garden, or, if you prefer, on the patio.  We have a good view of the tracks from either location, you know!

A beautiful day here in the north woods of NY.  Hardly a cloud in the sky, although the radar portends rain later in the day.

As long as it's nice on Saturday - I'm working on the railroad.

Firefighters in the southern part of our county are dealing with a fire in a feed mill.  Came in around 2:30 AM.  We weren't called, but the scanner traffic woke me up, so I'm short some of my beauty sleep this morning.

Bearclaw and tea, in the corner...

Present and accounted for!

Bob - Re-read Randy's post very carefully.  I think he may have intercepted your ribs!

Quentin - we do have deer around Lincoln but if I find one in the backyard eating bird seed.....Eight Ball

Tree - we have several elevators here in town - one only about 7 blocks west of us - all have had fires of some sort and ours even had a heart attack victim in the head house area.  They really don't pay those firefighters or police enough!

Well, summer is almost here, ergo weather just about right.  Remember my motto - don't have to shovel summer weather.

Very cool in Prescott, AZ this AM. Light rain but not much acumulation, which we always need. Still have not had to turn on the AC. High today of about 80 is forcast.

I have got to American Legion Post # 6 at 1:00 PM to prepare budget for next fiscal year. Last time for this as I am relinquishing Chairmanship of Finance Committee after several years. We are trying to get younger veterans involved and having some success.

Back home from eye center and Jean in bed to rest after surgery at 10:15.

Some sunshine this morning and the humidity is building.

And Dinning Car....I always take note when I see such a low American Legion number....Mine, back home in Pa. is 257.

Today is our cat's day to visit the vet. A great struggle will undoubtedly be required to get her into the cat carrier.

Omaha is under a moderate risk of severe weather today, so we'll see what happens with that.

Quintin and Larry, it's always good to hear from fellow Legion members. I just received my 2010 membership card which shows 58 years of continuous membership, 40 years with Post # 6 in Colorado and 18 with Post #6 in Prescott.

Prescott's Post is named Earnest A. Love Post after a local boy who was shot down over France in 1918 by the Red Baron.

For years being in Pa., I did keep an active Legion card and then since being out here we've let it slide time and time again....But we still think highly of the American Legion, wherever it is.

Father in Law was an active member {always}, while he lived, and saw to it we had our Legion card.  He was a member early on as he served in WWI...

Alas, I've never joined the Legion.  I probably should, but I hardly have time for all the stuff I'm in already.

Good afternoon, folks.  Sorry about running late with lunch menu today.  Took a little extra time getting the fire going on the grills, for some strange reason.  Not that windy here today.

Fresh off the grill and onto the warmer bar:  steaks, pork chops, burgers, brats, corn on the cob and grilled 'baked' potatoes.

Side dishes are:  cole slaw, garden salad, baked beans or your can plain pork n beans, and macaroni salad.

Desserts today:  whatever flavor ice cream you want, along with banana splits, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla milk shakes, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and the following cobblers:  apple, cherry, blueberry, peach and strawberry.

And I'll make sure I've got more going on the grill around 6:30, 7:00 p.m for supper tonight  for everyone.

Laugh  Thumbs Up  Our vet - Dr. Barrow, who had the experiences of numerous such encounters - used to say, "Cats can be meaner than dogs !"  Don't you just love the put-the-paws-out-in-all-directions move - just as you're trying to nudge them gently through the door of the carrier ?

Hope all goes well and your "nice kitty, kitty" is good for another year or so !

I hope you have better luck than we did.

When we were first married, we inherited a kitty from the people who lived next door.  They moved away and just left it.  My wife insisted, that it must have meant we were destined to have a cat.  We were newlyweds.  Who was I to argue with the Mrs?

First order of business, was to have Miss Kitty spayed.  My wife drove us to the office of Dr. Hiss, while I rode along with a cat ON MY HEAD!  "Poor Miss Kitty!  She must be terrified." "Poor me- I think I'm bleeding".  That night, even though she had a ginormous cone on her head, Miss Kitty managed to rip out all her stitches except one.  Next day, we're off to see Dr. Hiss, with a kitty wearing a cone, on my head.

The cat needed to have stitches put back in.  She suggested that she didn't wish that to happen.  The three of us wrestled with Miss Kitty, but to no avail.  Dr. Hiss decided to do something extreme.  What he had, was the equivilent of pet super glue.  He had us hold the cat as still as possible, while he glued the incision, and held it together for 30 seconds to dry.  Then. things went from bad to worse, as Dr. Hiss was then glued to Miss Kitty's tummy.  We wrestled for a little wall longer.  Then Dr. Hiss said "brace yourself- I'm going to yank!".  With that, he unglued himself from the cat.  My wife and I had scratches.  Dr. Hiss had fuzz glued to his fingers.  Miss Kitty had a bad attitude, and sat on my head on the ride home.

We have since bought a pet carrier.Laugh

Had an experience similar to Murphy's with a Siamese we got - shortly after we got married.  Took the cat to the vet for shots.  Sure - I'll hold the cat - it's the claws we have to watch, right?

So I'm holding the front paws.  Doc sticks the needle in, cat proceeds to (very rapidly) bite her way across my hand - five or six bites.

I think the vet was in "I told you so" mode, even though he hadn't.  They wouldn't even give me a bandaid...

I later learned the right way to give a cat a shot (grab them by the nape of the neck and drag them across the table while giving the shot - they're so busy fighting being dragged that they don't even notice the shot).

I don't keep cats any more - they were a thing with my ex and my daughter, but they're both out on their own.

The Siamese liked to hide up under the dash when we took her in the car.  Real pain to extricate, let me tell you.

We made it to and from the vet without any trouble. Chessie doesn't like going to the vet, but she doesn't scratch or bite either. The real struggle is just getting her into the cat carrier before we leave. As soon as she hears the carrier coming, she runs and hides. We've learned to lock her in the bathroom and then get the carrier and bring it into the bathroom where she doesn't have anyplace to hide. When she spreads her legs out and won't fit through the door of the carrier we just take the top off the carrier, plunk her in, and put the top back on real quick. It's not a very graceful way to get a cat into the pet carrier, but it works.

Our other cat, Tehachapi, doesn't even fit into the small cat carrier we have. We need to get a larger one before his next trip to the vet.

This was just a regular check up for Chessie, but we were also worried that she's getting a bit thin. The vet agreed and did some tests and took some blood. We'll have the results tomorrow morning.

We're still under a moderate risk for severe weather and a tornado watch, but it's just a waiting game right now. It doesn't look like we have a real good chance of storms for several more hours.

Tree - we are still the True Midwest!  Big Smile  Even more so now that "tornado alley" has moved to Colorado!  We get any more midwest and there will be chicken feathers all over the place.

The only chicken feathers visable were the low flying variety at 6PM Sunday and 11PM (ugh!) Monday night. (Was in a meeting in the office at noon Tuesday, Lurch is still panting out in the parking lot, how tacky...) Now back, protected by guard scotties (death from the ankles down!).....

Better watch out if those tornaydie thingies start transplanting asparagus seedlings to eastern Nebrasky!

Hmm - the cat that led to my first comment above was also a right-after-we-were-married cat from the couple next door in the college apartments.  I think they said they were allergic to it (it was a Persian long-hair) - or maybe it was their dachshund - or vice-versa.  "Yes, we can keep it overnight on a trial basis" . . . which became 19 years.

By then the cat - Daisy - already had been declawed on the front.  But that "handicap" didn't slow her down a bit - her tactic became to wrap her front paws around your forearm as in a bear hug, bite your hand, and then wallop the heck out of the rest of your arm with her hind legs which were about like a jackrabbit's (in her prime, a 6 ft. jump from a standing start to the basement window sill was no challenge) - and the rear claws were still in !  She'd climb a tree by the same method - wrap the front claws around it and shinny up with the rear claws.  She also got her share of mice, moles / voles, and chipmunks - all while tied out on a leash.   And she hated car trips, too - her usual revenge was to cry, moan, and then vomit.  Ughh !  She also liked to put her paws on the HO and Z scale model trains and stop them.

Our daughter's cat traveled very well - even visited the East Broad Top RR one rainy Friday afternoon - but usually preferred to hide head-first under the passenger seat, with her tail sticking out towards the front.  Other times she'd just lay on the 2nd seat.  Vet visits weren't much of a "tag-team" wrestling match, but the poor cat was just scared and miserable the whole time.  She lived to almost 18.  We still talk about her.

- Paul North.

One cat we had when I was younger was a part bobcat---found a litter of 'em in our woodshed behind the house. I, being a weird kid of around 11 years old at the time took to this fellow who I named "Baby". Because, well, with me he was a big suck. This cat, whenever we went to give it the rabies shots etc would be put into a birdcage---that's right: a birdcage. Being that the cat got to dang near 30lbs I could take him in that cage to get the shots and come home---after the cat gave everyone within earshot a full vocal choral concert--in this cage---I'd let the cat go----ZZOOOOMM!! ---under my bed the cat would run.

Now 'Spring' the cat in my avatar --OTOH--being a 7lb wire spring--is a little more of an armfull when he gets all silly--
