Good Tuesday morning, everyone! I hope all of you enjoyed your loonng weekend, as I'm sure you all did! Starting the day with a temp of 66, and kind of pleasant, when I stepped out to get the paper. We do have a 60% chance of showers/storms today, though.
Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced tea (sweet and unsweet), and hot water for tea are ready. There's even some fruit punch also. Mookie, I've got your coffee mug out, just in case you're back with us this morning.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, fried taters, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, and cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.
I wonder how many people will remember that this is Tuesday morning, and not Monday morning, and will show up for Tuesday Produce. You all enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Produce.
Good morning. 70 and heavy overcast/drizzle in Carolina this morning. Supposedly, it will go to the mid 80s and thunder later. For the past few days, all the lightning has gone east of us, PTL. The girls go to the beauty parlor this morning. which they actually seem to like for some reason. There is no problem at all getting them in the carrier. Everybody take care

Three days on the railroad. It's now very plain to me that F units are less than desireable for switching assignments. Arrived on the property Saturday AM thinking I was the trainman and that our train would be ready to go (prepared by those who generally are around during the week.
Wrong. No motive power in sight. Train not assembled (although it had been cleaned). I was the conductor. And my trainman was to begin his training as a student conductor - under my guidance, although there are now two people on the list with less seniority than I have.
Power shows up. Two F units. Did I mention that they are horrible to switch with (especially when one is geared for 100 mph on Metro-North)?
We finally got our train together and only got out about 10 minutes late. The rest of the day was filled with recalcitrant couplers and balky F units. But we survived. Sunday and Monday went better, as we got used to what was working well and what wasn't.
Throw on top of that my muscles' reaction to all the climbing (did I mention that F units.....) and the rocking cars and I think just about everything is sore this morning.
I'll be back there next weekend!

Well, we ended up having 50 people show up for Produce this morning. When the truck finally arrived, they had for us: apples (green), lettuce (romaine & bags of chopped lettuce), yellow summer squash, bags of sliced green peppers and potatoes (10# bags). The last five people didn't get any potatoes, they were gone by that point.
Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta, round ONE, is on the warmer bar:
Burritos (beef, beef & bean and beef enchilada style), Tacos (soft shell and hard shell), enchiladas, quesadillas, Taco salad, Spanish rice, and tortilla chips with Picante sauce, salsa, chili con queso.
Mookie and Larry, glad to see you two back this morning!! Now, we need to get some of our other long time regulars in here, like Brian Hanel, Brian Gregg (louisnash), Kozzie (anyone hear from him at all?), Dan, Ray, Kat, Nora, Nance, Houston Ed, Kevin and whomever else we haven't seen in here for ages!!! (You know, where you actually post something, letting us know you're here, and not just lurking.)
Everyone have a good afternoon, and enjoy your lunch!!

(Oh; the days of having the C.B. in the vehicle.)
Larry, I would have thought that that years you've been on the
Fire Department and climbing up and down ladders would have
helped and made things easier; training anyway.

Round Two of our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is on the warmer bar. And for dessert tonight, we have vanilla sundae cones w/fudge in the center of them. Or, if you don't like them, there's just about every flavor of ice cream in the freezer that you can have.
You all enjoy, and have a good evening.

Mookie, next time you are near a Flying J truckstop, swing into the restaurant. They have a chocolate cake that will give you fits (took three days to finish the piece I bought on Friday night!)
On my way back to Wisconsin, will hopefully get the truck into the shop tomorrow, has a slight issue with the speedometer jumping around. Not good when you have the cruise set and the truck goes from full power to full jake brake.....
See everyone later...

Sorry I haven't posted much lately, just haven't been very talkative, I guess.

What a coincidence, we stopped at the one in Evansdale, IA on the way home from Minnesota today. We haven't sampled the restaurant fare there, though. I guess I better put that on my to-do list (I haven't met a slice of chocolate cake yet that takes me more than one day to wipe out).
Another observation from the trip home- got stopped by a northbound MN&S train near Castle Rock, MN, headed up to switch the businesses in the Lakeville Airlake business park, I think- two six-axle motors pulling maybe 40 mixed cars. What surprised me was that there was no EOT on the end.

locomutt Larry, I would have thought that that years you've been on the Fire Department and climbing up and down ladders would have helped and made things easier; training anyway.
At least on most fire ladders you can stand more or less straight up. Not so on an F.
On the other hand, I spent enough time hanging off the sides of cars and the F's this weekend that I'm pretty sure I can pass the NS "hanging on the side of a car for two minutes" test...

Brian: What Flying J forgot to put on the dessert menu is that menu items are shown actual size. The first time I ordered the cake, I couldn't even finish half of it. This past weekend, I managed to stretch it into three meals. When you get it, you will understand why it costs five dollars.
Lately, have not sampled truckstop food, preferring to pack food in the truck and eat. It's a lot easier on the wallet....
Good Wednesday morning, everyone. We still have very muggy conditions here in Louisville this morning. Temps are ranging anywhere from 68 in the outlying areas, to 70 degrees in the downtown area. Still have 60% chance of showers/storms for today here. I think we only saw a little shower, that didn't really do much for the plants or our grass yesterday afternoon.
Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade and hot water for tea are ready. I've also got iced tea ready for the day, both sweetened and unsweetened.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws and BLT on toast this morning. There's also some sausage/egg/cheese biscuit sandwiches.
No need to worry about the chocolate cake disappearing, mudchicken: I always keep plenty of chocolate cake on hand, for Mookie, Brian, and all the rest of us chocoholics around here!
Mookie: I've got your coffee mug ready to pour coffee into, and a large slice of chocolate cake cut for you. How about we go out to the garden this morning, and enjoy the scenery and trains going by?
Randy, it does sound like you need to get the speedometer fixed on your truck! Better get that taken care of, ASAP!! You and everyone else, have a very good morning, and take care, all of you!!
Good morning, it's Wednesday! 64 and overcast in Carolina with another 24 hours of thunderstorms forecast. So far, the lightning has bypassed us for the past few days, but it's good to keep one eye on the radar. I will have a piece of that cake, with some vanilla ice cream if you don't mind. I never met a cake I didn't like, but chocolate and pig pickin are the best. Everybody take care
very muggy outside with more rain for today.Matt had a great time at the zoo.He is on time and on the bus.Good sleeping weather today so time for a nap.Chores will be calling this afternoon.
Yawn....cloudy again today. Nice rain shower from about 4 am to about 7 am. Everyone getting rain but us up to that point. Nice and cool today.
Glad the cake is such a hit. Randy - I think we may have a Flying J out around North Platte NE. Not sure that is far enough to keep me from the cake, but it will be safe for awhile anyway. (They say there is one at Gretna - which is between here and Omaha and since we are going to Omaha in about 10 days......hmmm....)
I am bored. Will wander out to garden and CW and I can be bored together.
Hi Brian - I am sending you some rain. I think.....
Sir C - saw a mini scotty on an old Phylo Vance movie this morning. Love those dogs!
Johnny - did you know canaries are not colorfast. They leave yellow stains 'round your mouf! Pthatt....
Muggy and partly sunny in central Indiana this morning. Just finished up doing the yard....It got ahead of me a bit having been out east for a long weekend. Have it back in somewhat of order now. Will need it again in maybe less than 3 days...
Joined a great long weekend back in the Pennsyvania home land and enjoyed great Memorial Day celebrations. And met lots of friends, etc....
Believe we witnessed less trucks on the eastern direction of the trip than any previous 47 years we've been doing this.... Super Recession / Holiday...??
And of course on the way home yesterday afternoon it seemed at about early afternoon the oil companies got the word out to raise the gas price to 2.65 / gal....From mid Ohio on, the price was basicly the same at all stations on into our local Indiana home area here....Even saw one at 2.75.
Didn't haved to conform as our vehicle makes the trip of 400 mi. without stopping for refill. Of course I will later, but we'll wait a few days and see what happens to the recently upped price. Truck is used for local running anyway.
Guess they really don't care about what escalating such prices {when supplies are bulging from reports we've heard}, what it might do to the struggling economy, now trying to recover.....Yea, I know...supply and demand....Don't think that is the reason for raising it now.....

Mooks:
Bored, eh? Wanna come watch Nigel bury his rawhide bone (needs more dirt seasoning?) in the green peppers? Guess I'll go get some more seedlings and start over. I'm sure you'll re-direct Nigel, Dougie & Gus (Da boyz/ scotties all) over to the asparagus bed to excavate...
(Plus with their long fur and bottom fringe kilt trimmed off right now, you can see the business end of a scotty in all its bow-legged, knock knee-d, pigeon toed glory which explains how they are built to be diggers (terriers))...You don't want to be vermin in a hole with these guys on your trail.
Just found out that Kat Kube put a picture of a co-worker (up and coming mudchicken) in the current new issue of TRAINS. We just married him off Saturday and now this - he's a happenin' right now. Must find the flagship rag and investigate.
CW: HoustonEd and Kozzie are out there, just VERY busy right now.
Muddy Feathers
We've got $2.35 a gallon for the regular stuff around here- goes up to $2.45 near Minneapolis. Of course, that's about 40 cents higher than a week before the holiday...
Mookie Hi Brian - I am sending you some rain. I think.....
Yep, got about an inch worth overnight. Too bad we can't send it north, my folks up near Minneapolis are pretty dry.
Quentin - our gas prices spiked a couple of weeks ago (coincidentally, just before Victoria Day), and have continued to creep up. Let's hope they do a little "market correction" before long.
OTOH, all of the state parks along Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River were packed for the Memorial Day weekend, and I heard that most of the campsites in the Fulton Chain area were full as well. Judging by the traffic out of the area on Monday - plenty of people were willing to spend the money for a weekend on the water or in the woods.
And, for those of you who complain about the state of education today, stop over to the humor thread...
Back to the grind. Hopefully my contractor shows up soon - I have work to do at the house and I know if he's much later he'll want to work overtime tonight. As long as he's gone by Friday.
Mookie, I enjoyed our outing in the garden this morning. Maybe we can do it again tomorrow morning?
Mudchicken, thanks for the info!
On the warmer bar for the rest of the day: Beef noodle casserole w/French bread, garden salad or Caesar salad, or: tuna alfreado (sp?) casserole, with the above sides.
Desserts: we have plenty of chocolate cake and also have apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and strawberry cobblers, with plenty of ice cream.
I don't know how accurate this is, but the wife found an article somewhere concerning gas prices. According to it, supply and demand have nothing to do with fuel prices. Actually, the pricing is based on the futures market. If the futures mkt is on the upswing, the fuel prices follow. That would explain sudden changes in fuel prices that make no sense. BTW, regular unleaded here is $2.25 and diesel is $2.18. Ain't greed grand? PFUI (German word translated as phooey) Paula, how about some lemon pound cake?
