Good Friday morning, everyone.  Have a temp range anywhere from upper 20s to about 30, 31 degrees around here this morning.  We have one school system to the south of us, closed completely, and another one that is on a one-hour delay, due to both areas getting 2 to 3 inches of snow overnight.  We don't even have a light dusting this morning.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, danishes and donuts are ready to go.  There's also some bacon, sausage, eggs and hash browns for anyone who wants a regular breakfast.

Quentin, glad to hear you're still improving!  I just took my last antibiotic this morning.  Should be through with the cough syrup by Monday morning, at the latest.

You all enjoy your breakfast, have a very good morning, and take care.

Good morning Americans, it's Friday! 47 degrees and cloudy in Carolina this morning. That's the high for the day, dropping to 43 later this evening. We are still waiting for the rain to start. Paula, thanks for breakfast. Everybody have a great day, take care and stay warm

Hit some light snow south of Syracuse on the way yesterday, but the bulk of the trip was under sunny skies.

Now I'm in MD, and it's snowing (ever so lightly).  Sheesh!

At least the granddaughter is a ball to be around.   She is this close to walking!

I am just amazed how much sunshine we've been getting {overall}, this Winter season....And again today.  Temp this morning when I first looked was 22.....This just might be the last time we see it this far down for this season as it is to warm up now and we're getting well into March.

I'll be mowing the yard in two weeks......Isn't that a "kicker"......!

Tree - time to get her a purse and put a little money in it.  Shopping can't be too far behind!  Approve

Finally a warm up today and into next week.  It's a lazy Friday.  Maybe because it is pre-coffee, which is still too hot to drink.

Q - my middle name is also after a relative.  I didn't want to go thru life being called Margaret, either!  And had I been a boy, I would have been Arthur!  Now these are all fine, upstanding names.  Just not my choice because they would have either been mangled or shortened to names I don't care to wear.

I am posting these pictures for Quentin.  They are of an arched stone & brick bridge, on an abandoned B&O line near Quentin's home area of Pennsylvania.  According to my notes, the line's been abandoned at least 60 years.  And it looks like the bridge is still in reasonably good shape.  Guess they built them better back then!

Quentin, I hope I  got this right.  You may feel the need to add anything I might have missed.

Mutt, nice pictures you posted on here for Quentin.  I really like that second photo.  It shows the detail of the stone and brick.  Very nice photo, indeed.

For our Friday Fish Fry today:  We only have cod and flounder (need to make a run to the Fish Market and stock up on the different kinds of fish for the Cafe).  But, we have the rest of the side dishes ( fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, mac & cheese, and breaded fried mushrooms).

The desserts today:  yellow cake w/chocolate icing, the regular list of pies and cobblers, and there's more Breyer's chocolate chip ice cream.

Our current temp is 40, and supposed to make it up to 50.  Hope we make it!  Still pretty chilly outside.    Everyone enjoy your meal, and have a very good afternoon.  Take care.

You did just fine Walt....Thanks.  For anyone who would like to take this a bit farther, go to Railwaystation.com and go down the list of entries and find Friedens, Pa.  Click on that and it should bring up an aerial photo of this abandoned line.  If you have patience and really look and follow the line you can see 4 connected horseshoe curves on the abandoned B&O coal line...This section was from Friedens to Boswell, Pa.  If you can see the horseshoe curves....and work from east to west....the bridge in question {Walt's photos}, is located about half way thru the last curve in the group.  The creek is I'd by just a curvy line of trees going under that fill on that last curve and hence, that's the location of the stone / brick arch bridge.  Line has been abandoned at least 60 years.

Edit:  Correction....Enter in Search:  Railwaystation.com-Aerial Photo List

Click on state of Pennsylvania

Find Friedens, Pa. Click on it...

Try to find abandoned RR we're talking about.

Justin - tell us a little about yourself.  What grade; what subjects do you like and dislike; are you rural or city; why do you like trains, anything else you might want to share that isn't too personal.

Joe - working on the problem.  But even if never solved, it is still all good!

Mutt - go unlock the closet so CW can get out.

Spring break so I get to watch trains for the next 5 days - and in warm weather!  I am so excited I go around in circles!

Q - have you been watching the Netherlands Railcam?  I had it on the other nite and while it was overnite there, they were doing a little camera adjusting.  That was fun.  We looked up and down the rails, down in the street, thru the trees and then into a couple of the surrounding back yards.  All asleep and well....

J....I haven't checked that out for several months.....Used to watch it quite often.  It's kinda neat....night over there and watch the sky get light in the early morning, etc....When I was watching I noted trains were carrying roughly about 45 cars on the avg....Some were running rather fast thru there too.

At times you could hear birds singing and if anyone went by on some small motorcycles you could hear them talking.....Yes, I've watched it many times in the past.   i'll have to check it out again.  Thanks for the reminder.

The sound capability of the system does make it interesting.

Mookie, just thought I'd let you know that Mutt didn't have to unlock the closet; wasn't in the closet.  Most of the afternoon and evening, I've had my nose stuck in a book, reading.  I get engrossed in a book, and can hardly put it down to do anything else!  Blush  Now, I'm going to say "Night night everyone, and see you tomorrow"!

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, hope you all have a very safe trip and make it back home safely!  And Joe, thanks for getting breakfast together this morning!  I have to admit I've been lazy this morning, and not getting on the computer as early as I usually do.

I'll be on my way out in just a little bit, to go back to the place I went to Thursday, and see if I can't get my taxes done today.  They're open from 10 until 4 today, so maybe I won't be there too long.  With my luck, I'll probably be there all day.  Not looking forward to that, believe me.

Justin, hope you enjoy your pancake breakfast this morning.  Just don't too too many of them, and make yourself sick!  How's your Mom doing?  I hope she's getting a little bit better.  Remembering her in my prayers,  and will continue to do so.

You all have a good morning, and I'll see you all later on for our Pizza Fest.

J......I went over to the Netherlands web site late last evening and checked it out.  Sat on it for a few minutes and nothing came thru so I left the sound on and continued to work with the TRANS forum and email all the time I could hear when the warning bells would start to ring if a train did come thru.  In one hour plus I had that site open, I caught just one train....with 38 cars in tow....6 - 8 months ago when I was watching it quite often I'd have seen at least 4 or 5 trains in that time.  So, believe that expresses the condition of their economy which seems to tell us they are in deep recession too.

Q - I was just on it a few minutes ago - saw 3-4 trains (commuter) Would have been about 3 in the pm.  I did catch several freights during the night - around 2 am their time.

It amazes me that they are very diligent about stopping at the crossings, no one tries to duck under the arms as they are coming down.  Bicycles/motorcycles and cars all share the street.  No one gets into an accident (and they travel fairly fast).  Saw one ambulance go across tracks to an emergency.  Very peaceful setting.

Mawnin. I have only seen two cars go around the gates, both at the same stop. Apparently, the oncoming train had stopped, because it took about 4 minutes to get to the crossing and was barely creeping. Stateside, our people would have had a racetrack around the gates. 43 degrees, cloudy and still waiting for the rain..... CW, there are worse things than eating too many pancakes. Nuff sed.

J......I was on it about 10 EDT last night and I've forgotten how much time difference there really is....I'm thinking that would have made it about 3 or 4 in the morning, their time...I even saw a person walking down the street and crossing the tracks by himself {at that time in the night}.....And I agree, all the times I've watched it, they really do regard the gates and warning bells and lights and do wait for the train....Motorcycles, cars and bikes and walkers alike.  Some of the trains coming thru there are really moving fast.

I've watched it quite often in the past and even watched their day begin by the sky becoming light, etc....and activity really picked up at that time.

Their sound system with the web cam really enhances the watching.....

Amtrak Beech Groove, In., has the word out they will be hiring up to 125 new employees  to refurbish 80 some Passenger rail cars at that ex, NYC repair facility....now Amtrak owned.

I believe they have had many cars on the repair line for months...Maybe years that were waiting for refurbishing and repairs but money was not available.  Understand this funding is coming as a result of the Stimulus Bill.  I suppose this will allow proper equipment to be added as necessary to some trains in busier times and possibly even allow start up routes that were not possible before.....

Thanks Tom.....guess I was about correct in thinking how far ahead they are from our location, time wise...

It can be an interesting web site at times.  I've even seen birds come and land close to the cam and you could hear them chirping.
