I haven't talked to my new great-grandson yet, but I am going to encourage him to become president!  Of the BNSF.  THEN maybe I will get a trip into our local yard!  Approve

Actually, my eight year old grandson (who is now an uncle - wow - that's even more impressive to me) is interested in railroad happenings.  Only problem is - he likes steam!

More tomorrow -

Very good idea on the yard tour! And the steam part is nice also. Don't we all have some sort of attraction with steam? I mean after all, thay were first. Maby he will learn to like the diesels once he is exposed to them a little more. Any way he probably will be a railfan, with all the fans in his family it's bound to be in his blood!

Mookie

CW - been busier than a one-armed paperhanger with an itch!  Cruise thru all week with things nice and orderly and then weekends - have a complete mess here at my favorite spot.

Robins....we got robins!  Finally we got robins.  Had to go out a little south of town to see them.  Driver sez he has been seeing them on campus at our higher institution - probably some freshmen.....

Welcome Justin.  We have raised several young people in our cafe, so we welcome all ages.  I am with you on the meatloaf.  CW will do that for us.

Spitty, cold rain here all day.  Just like an all day sneeze!  Snow west and north of us, but not here.  Thumbs Up

Did see some trains -  all coal except one and the one I really wanted to see was running behind a coal train headed Joe's way.  Got to get me a ladder to look over the coal train that always seems to be in my way.

I will be sending in my nomination for a world's record - world's youngest great-grandmother - at 29! Can you believe that?  Big Smile  Yeah, me neither.  Anyway - granddaughter and husband had baby  - I think 4 am Friday - talked to daughter and she was still groggy from trying to catch up on sleep.

No name boy.  Can't decide between about 3 names.  7'11 oz 22 inches - regular baby-type.

All doing fine - except maybe new grandmother.  She seemed a little rattled by it all.

'Nuff news from here in the middle of nowhere.  Out again tomorrow - must remember to take along ladder....

Mookie

Mook; Congratulations on becoming a Great-Grandmother!!

(I like the fact that you're only 29......that makes me about 22!Laugh)

And instead of getting a ladder, how 'bout a pair  of

Drywall hanger's Stilts?!  That way you wouldn't have to keep

repositioning both the ladder and camera! Evil

Ms Mook - Congrats.   I've got about 20 years before I should have to worry about that title.  Hope I'm still around!

Still raining here.  Not hard - only about 1/3 inch since noon, but it looks like it's gonna keep it up for a while.

Went to a fundraiser/dance tonight.  The band was excellent (as they always are - I've seen them numerous times before).  Not only do they have the requisite drums, keyboard, and guitars, but they have a horn section (trumpet, sax, 'bone) as well.   Good stuff!

Time for bed.

Mornin. 55 degrees in Carolina on the first morning of daylight savings. Not much to report otherwise. Some good music for us '50s and '60s types at oldies700.com/index_m.htm. Good streaming audio from a great station in Dothan, Al. As the old commercial for Alka Seltzer went, Try it, you'll like it. Stay safe

Another warm morning....59 plus degrees now and overcast.  We are under the threat of possible stormy stuff making it's way thru here sometime today.

Tom....that station sounds good for decent music....

I don't know how many clocks have been set but I believe most of them are now....Think there is 18 or so....You know, digital everywhere in units, etc..

But the two Regulators I have up and running do not set themselves....the 5 Atomic controlled clocks and watches do and did just fine.

Seems so dark this morning....but of course the cloud cover is helping that.  I'll not complain about the clouds and hope the severe stuff does not get here.....

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Trying for a third time to post this morning.  We'll see if it goes through this time!

1.  Mookie, congratulations on the new great grandson!  If you need any help 'spoiling him', just let me know.

2.  Tom, sounds like you had some very good music to listen to last night.  Our local PBS stations are running their spring fund drive, so we got a treat last night:  watched The Statler Brothers Final Concert.  That was really, really great.  Then, after that, watched a As Time Goes By reunion (one of the British comedies).

Coffee, juices, and hot water for tea are ready; on the warmer bar:  turkey bacon, sausage patties, and homemade buttermilk biscuits, along with bagels, bear claws and cinnamon rolls

Everyone have a good morning, and if you've got showers/storms headed your way (like we do here in the Ohio Valley), hold on to your hats and take care.

Good Morning All.

Currently 73...dark low clouds and breezy here in San Antonio.  The weather folks are promising us rain in a couple of days.  Sure am looking forward to that.

Backyard birds are all congregating out on the ledge.

All in all...a perfect Sunday.

Some thunder moving by now.  Guess I better take a look and see where this approaching weather is.

This morning I've noted another sign of Spring...besides lots of Robins, we can now see the Weeping Willow trees starting to head towards green...they are always on the leading edge.

We've had some rain (very heavy for a few minutes), and remain under a tornado watch until 8 p.m.   Think we've bitten the bullet so far(?) this time.  Guess we'll see, as the evening progresses.

Sorry I'm so late getting Sunday Dinner ready.  It's taken me all day, just to catch up on emails I just didn't feel like going thru this past week.  Here's tonight's menu:

More meat loaf w/mashed taters, gravy, shellie beans, cole slaw, brussels sprouts, cauliflower w/cheddar cheese sauce.

Desserts:  apple cobbler w/ice cream, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, chocolate chip cookies

Joe, got some containers ready for you, to take to work tonight, for your lunch.  You've got a little bit of everything, except for the ice cream.  Maybe we can put a little bit in a different container, if you have a freezer section in the fridge at work.

Everyone have a good evening, and enjoy your dinner/supper.

Good evening, all. I forgot to remind you all to get up at two this morning and reset your clocks so you would wake up in time for the day, but none of you has said anything about sleeping late, so you must have taken care of it properly. We set most of our clocks last night, and set one car clock this morning. Our atomic clock behaved--but I will see, tomorrow, if it is sure of itself. In past years, it has taken a day or two to get it right.

We heard a woodpecker when we got out of the car at church this morning, and Ricki asked, "What's that?" It had been quite a while since I had heard one.

Bright sunshine, with a cold wind out of the south; we may have more snow tonight (about four inches came down here Wednesday night).

If Joe does have a freezer section at work, I hope it is kept better than the one where I worked (I never used it, so didn't think about frost buildup). If it is cold enough, he can just put the ice cream outside.

The weather system that approached us this afternoon split {as it does so often}, and some went south, and some north of our area.  So we had very little rain or anything else....There was some damage in Southern Indiana.

Now after the front has gone thru....we're under a wind advisory until 6 am, unless it has been changed.  It was clear just before dark.  Some wind, but they have been talking about gusts up to 50 or so mph....So we'll hope we don't get much of that and so far it is not to that level.  57.2 degrees right now.

Was over in McD's parking lot this last hour and witnessed a long freight heading west...2  6-axle GE's for power.  NS Frankfort line passes right by the parking lot.

Evening all! Just checking in after the weekend.

Johnny, Sorry we didnt get to meet up. The day was beautiful! We went down saturday morning and the only sortof nast weather we encountered was some blowing snow on either side of Evanston. The show was not as good as usual in my opinion. I couldnt find anything that I was looking for!

Mookie, Congrats on be a Great Grandma!

RJ, since we had the [broken] promise of bad weather, we did not make serious plans to go up to Ogden, and at lunch time we decided that we would stay home. Maybe next year?

Sorry you did not see what you wanted to.

Evening all.....

Well, back on the highway as of Friday afternoon, by the time I get to Wauwatosa, WI tomorrow afternoon, will have racked up about 1600 miles on the new clutch.  Shop still didn't get the clutch adjusted quite right, though, there's about twice as much free travel as there is supposed to be.  Think I'll let a different shop take care of that, though, the one that put in the clutch has caused me enough grief.

Before anyone asks, the clutch on a semi is not self-adjusting, one has to crawl under the truck (with engine shut off!!), reach up into the bellhousing, and adjust the clutch.  Not too hard if one knows what they're doing.

Justin, belated welcome to the Diner, I'm one of the few people who have had a crack at both railroading and trucking.  As to which one I like best, it depends on the day of the week, and the load I'm hauling at the time.  Right now, I prefer trucking, typing from the sleeper right now, in prep for bed, something you can't do on a train.

See everyone later....

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Randy, glad you were able to stop  in last night; also hope you get the clutch fixed.  That has to be very annoying.

We're starting out this morning with a temp of 45, going for a high of about 63 for today.  Then, rain coming in by about 5 a.m. tomorrow.  May be more storms.  Guess we'll wait and see what we end up getting.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready to go this morning.  Mookie, got your coffee mug down and waiting to be filled when you come walking in the door!

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, and some fried diced potatoes.

You all have a good  morning, and if anyone has any meal requests for today, just let me know, so I can get it going in time for lunch; otherwise, it might be Sunday Dinner leftovers.

Hmmm - I close my eyes (off and on) for a few hours and everyone east of us takes a hit. (weather-wise)

CW - leftovers "is good".  Make it an effortless Monday!

Joe will be in and then heading for a nap - think I will take his advice and do the same.

Good morning everybody. 60 degrees and sunny in Carolina this lovely day. Thanks for breakfast. In my meanderings around the internet, I find a lot of astounding facts, and now let's see how many of you know this already. We all know who Winnie the Pooh is, but what is his "real" name, the one he was "born" with. Winner will get a predetermined prize, yet to be determined (?). Yall take care

But did ya dance?

Nope.  Just sat back, enjoyed a beverage or two, enjoyed the music, and watched the "floor show."

Forgot to change my clocks before I went to bed, too.  It's a good thing the cable box and the caller IDs update automatically....

I was tied up with a rush project over the weekend, too.   Since I was distracted, I forgot my usual advisory to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  It's the sound that can save your life!

Good Morning all and thx for the breakfast CW. Overcast but no rain expected in AZ mountains.

No clock problems in AZ. We keep standard time 365, except on the 'Big Rez' which is the Navajo Reservation. This huge reservation is in both NM and AZ and the Navajo's elected to adopt DST to be in agreement with NM which uses DST.

Good Morning....I'd say the "real name" is:  Pooh Bear.

Don't know if that is the name you are after but I used that name on the CB band decades ago.

Weather:  It got a little nasty coming thru Indiana yesterday.....But once again the system kind of split as it came thru our area.  Some north, and some south of us.  Believe the most damage was south....South of Indy.  Barns and houses destroyed, etc....Don't know about injuries.  We got away really easy with just a small amount of rain and then clear skies early afternoon and a bit later a little wind.  There was nasty wind in some areas...and we were under a wind advisory of up to 50 or more mph, but I didn't hear anything that serious right here....Thankfully.

Good afternoon, folks.  Looks like leftovers wins for today; got everything heated (meat loaf, shellie beans, other veggies , although the mashed taters are freshly mashed and buttered.  Yes, I cook potatoes, then mash them up:  no instant potatoes in my kitchen.

Temp is now in the upper 40s, for the most part.  Maybe a couple of areas have hit 50.  All I know is, I'm very cool, and I'm dressed warmly, too.

You all enjoy your lunch, and have a good afternoon.  Stay warm, and take care.

Good Morning....I'd say the "real name" is:  Pooh Bear.

Quentin, you are half right; Pooh's first name was Edward, and his last name was Bear. Shall we split the prize? Incidentally, if you speak the full name that became better known, say "Winnie Ther Pooh."

We feel for the people who live in the violent windstorm areas. Around here, there has been one tornado that I remember in the last thirty-four years. A few years ago, we had a violent windstorm out of the northwest one summer afternoon; I got some firewood out of it.

We do live with the prospect of a major earthquake any time. We are several miles from any known fault (the Wasatch Fault), but soil can be liquefied even some distance away from a fault. It is presumed that there is not much danger of that right where we live, but an area north of us is in danger--the nature of the soil determines the degree of danger.

About thirty degrees here this morning, with no wind to speak of, so my morning walk was pleasant--except I had to start an hour later because we now observe New Orleans time instead of Denver time (I am not going to walk in the dark). We have a promise of snow, perhaps starting an hour or so ago (it hasn't started yet, except for a few flakes I felt while walking). Our radio clock had gone back to 105th meridian time (MST) when I went up from here before going to bed last night; it had gone back to 90th meridian time (CST; MDumbT) when we got up this morning. I think it will stay on that now until fall confusion time comes.

Paula, thanks for the sausage and biscuits.
