Johnny....I understand names can be difficult.  Wife Jean took care of hers early in life....long before me, and simply adopted her middle name.

My name has been difficult at times in the past....In the Service, school, etc....People didn't know how to spell it and even pronounce same....And some had trouble writing capital {not often used}, letter "Q".....

I don't fuss with it anymore....No problem now.

Jen.....my better half also was not too thrilled with her first name

Quentin, my wife, Patricia, never really liked her first name, and she despised all the common diminutive forms thereof. He first husband began calling her "Ricki," (after the heroine in one of Robert Heinlein's novels) and she is known thus to friends and family. A few years ago, she was in a hospital, and a doctor in our congregation went to see (personal, not business visit) her, and was surprised to learn her first name is not Ricki. She did not think much of her middle name, either. She regrets that she was not given any family names, and her children are all named for paternal ancestors (with two exceptions, my brothers and I were named for relatives on both sides).

'Twas pleasant this morning; chilly again, with no wind; the sun did shine out brightly after it overcame the Wasatch.

We have been buying new sheets for our thick new mattress; we had little trouble in finding summer sheets (except for the impossible colors and designs that are in the stores), but flannel sets are not that easy to find, even in colors or designs that might give us nightmares.

Good afternoon/evening, everyone.  Managed to get half the errands done.  The tax place I was going to today, wasn't doing any taxes today.  Have to go back Saturday morning.  What a bummer!!

Supper tonight:  Italian spaghetti w/salad and garlic Texas toast. Or, if you want, you can have a steak w/sauteed mushrooms & onion and salad.

For dessert tonight:  yellow cake w/chocolate icing and Breyer's chocolate chip ice cream.  Hope that sounds appetizing to everyone!!

You all have a good evening, stay warm and take care.

Jen.....my better half also was not too thrilled with her first name so the name "Jean" that she uses is a middle name. First name, somewhat ignored....just used on so called "legal" matters.  Had a classmate in high school named Jenny and she was pretty nice too......Cool

Here in central Indiana the weather is not very warm today but the sunshine is shining into my eastern "office" window....So partly sunny and low 30's today.  But it appears the weather will be dry next 4 or 5 days and that must mean to run the truck thru the car wash....Car is hardly out in the dirt so it is still clean, but Jean is on a run to the mall this morning.  That is almost like getting to the hairdressers when needed.

Well, I can see I will be starving for lunch, since CW will be gone!  You know how helpless I am.....Big Smile

I like Madame La Mook.  I like Mookie.  Mook makes me a "railroader".  I use Moo when I am expressing an opinion.  My real name is just not a favorite of mine.  I was named for a grandmother - but her name was Jennie.  I am Jenny.  And absolutely no one can meet me for the first time (unless they are about Quentin and my age) and not mangle my first name.  Then the usual questions - are you Geniveve, Ginny, Virginia, Jennifer, Genivieve, Jean, Jeannie or Jinnie?  When I clarify it is Jenny, then they proceed to call me Jean.  (Sorry 'bout that Mrs. Q!)

I don't mind Jen, but it is also a problem, since no one will use that to replace Jenny.  If my name had been Jennifer, they would have all shortened it to Jen.  So I gave Mudchicken the title of Sir Chicken and Quentin the exclusive right to use my shortened first name.

Well, gee - I was really hard up for news this morning, wasn't I?

So for anyone that is totally bored with all the above - nice weather cometh.  About Wednesday next week - close to 70!

Off now to muse how no one ever messes up The Driver's name.......which I don't divulge to protect his privacy, but most of the long time forum members know it anyway.  Laugh

Mornin everybody. CW, thanks for breakfast, and all the best on your taxes.... 57 degrees and overcast in Carolina. It is only supposed to get up to 62 today, and then the rain starts. Yesterday, I did my monthly grocery run, and took the girls to the groomer. I came back broke and they came back pretty as a picture. Everybody take care, and CW, we shall miss you for lunch.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Nice and cold here this morning:  31 degrees at 6:13 a.m.   At least, there wasn't much of a breeze when I opened the door to get the newspaper off the porch!

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, sausage and biscuit sandwiches and oatmeal & toast.

You all will be on your own this afternoon.  Have a couple of meetings to go to later this morning, and will probably not be around for lunch.  One of the meetings is getting help with taxes.  Trying to get that taken care of before it gets too close to April 15th.   You all take care, and I'll see you sometime later.

Justin, we are praying for your mother. May the trouble be found and remedied.

I have, on occasion, addressed Mookie by her real name, and she did not complain. Perhaps she has some respect for age (or is it ignorance?).

Larry, is you new avatar the picture of one of your trains?

It was a pleasant day here, with sunshine and only a little wind. We went shopping for new sheets that fit our new, thicker mattress. We found two sets of summer bed linen and one set of flannel bed linen that Ricki would consider using (all on sale).

Feeling better is always a good thing.

I'd write more, but I've got to use one hand to hang on so I don't get blown away by this wind.

Quentin, glad you felt good enough to make it to the barber shop.  That means you're on the road to recovery, and getting back on track!

Joe, we're waiting for the mail to be delivered today.  Our mailman doesn't usually get there before 2 p.m., if he's running 'early'.  Usually, it's more like 4, 5 p.m. before we see any sign of any mail around our neighborhood.

For our afternoon and evening meals today, I've made some chili (mild, with hot sauces available to add for those who prefer hot chili.  There is also a pot of bean w/bacon soup, and a large pan of cornbread fresh out of the oven.

We're down to 39 degrees at 12:21, and continuing to slowly drop.  Will be down in the 20s tonight.  You all  enjoy your meal, have a good, safe afternoon and take care.

The storm system that was coming at us late last night arrived here about 12:05am....and lasted just about 5 min....But it was rather strong in that time frame.  Wind was steady at 23 mph before the front came thru and I couldn't hear anything in the house, but as the front crossed us, the wind roar did go up in decibles leading me to think in terms of 50 or so mph for that brief time.   Just a bit of rain and then it was gone....headed northeast and New England.  Weather people said the Front was moving at 50 mph.

Nice sunshine all morning here and a brisk wind {flags standing straight out from their poll}, temp. not bad.  No complaints.

Trivia:  Made a trip over to the barbershop this morning...first place I've been in since I've been fighting this...whatever it is putting me down....for 2 weeks.  Nice to work back to {hopefully}, normal.

Quentin
