Ever feel like someone rolled you up in a couple of real thick blankets, then spent about two hours wailing away on you with a three foot piece of garden hose?

You know, that totally numb feeling?

Vic, you can beat me with the UnMadisonAbridged version of the Bard's greatest hits, you can even strap me to the chair and make me watch Pearl Har-bore while listening to Britiney Spears (oops I did that again) ............we can even continue to flog the KO'd equine over the G string rule (through it seems it would be uncomfortable to wear while driving a train..maybe it's a safety issue) but French Cinema????? Poke my eyes out with a spoon.......the only french cinema of note is that showing various armies marching through the arc de surrender....

Dan there are a few French movie worth seeing that I guarentee you will enjoy..

"Amelie" with Audrey (shes-too-cute-to-be-real) Tautoe, this is a WONDERFUL film!

"The Triplets of Belleville" out last year and IMHO the BEST film of 2004, the dream sequences involving TRAINS is itself worth seeing this film for, your brain will be BENT after...

"City of Lost Children" with Ron Perlman, excellent film in story and visuals.

"Delicatesin" imagine Sweeny Todd set in a post-apocalypitic Paris, another film that will cause Bent-Brain syndrome.

Re: .......the only french cinema of note is that showing various armies marching through the arc de surrender....

BTW hows the old joke go?

How many Frenchman does it take to defend Paris?

We dont know, it's never been tried!

OK., Bard-ot is back in the Yard-ot after a steamy Easter pm/ Monday am at the good old B&B with my ex. More later on that, after Doggy gets sleepy and starts in on hockey.

Where to start? Pre-War French cinema? Pretty good for PWFC? On request, I will copy and send you some of the essential ones. I'm getting up to speed on Hitchcock's British Years' stuff , as we speak. Well the French and Americans virtually invented film as we know it. It's not their fault that their really tough, pioneering efforts have been surpassed by so many expensive, facile throwaways in Box Office Appeal. My French war-bride mother grew up fatherless through WWII. Her father had served in the armee' in WWI and worked closely with Pathe' on various inventions (that you can still see today at the end of closing credits) and managed movie houses through the Sud and North Afirica that Pathee' owned..See Kevin, I'm trying to stick those accents ague on top of the second e's and would also like to be able to do breves and circonflexes, as well as those sguigglies above Spanish words like manana and umlauts over German vowels. Anyone care to clue me as to how? I'm afraid those little nuances or inflections and meanings are disappearing in this small, dumb and e-literate keyboard. My family's Quebecois friends used to rush up to my French mom with regardez-vous' and fervent queries and she would always throw up her hands and nearly go to Sign language. Brit's will understand all this about Bristol English, "Are you Dutch, sir?" Gen-u-ine Frontier Gibberish, she must have thought!!!
Where was I?
Oh, yeah, my French grandad saw the Second War coming and took off!!! Without adieu, sayonara or see'ya, he got drafted, went off to the armee'. Knew it was not going to be kind for artists and their angels (he knew and promoted Charles Chapln. Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker, et al) and just left my dear Grandmere and teenage mom to the vagaries of Vichy, ***, ersatz butter and coffee and sugar, and those German and American (with nylon!!! stockings and hamburgers in a few weeks) guys who kept disturbing the Marseillaise's peace by defensively or offensively wrecking the damned town!!!

Eventually I hope to get back to railroading and Rule G, but bear with me a little bit.

My Grandmere was nearly Mussolini'ed, i.e. dragged through the streets until dead when the Americans pushed north. She had been doing secretarial work fot the Vichy's to keep my mom alive, helped Jews, hapless Slav workers. and everyone else in sight, when she could. Marseilles' mayor kept peace in those terrible times and was dragged by the nascent communists ala Mussolini to his death When a child, Grandmere was a crack shot with a rifle (used to sneak out into the desert with the Arab boys), played killer tennis and remained to the end a scrappy tom-boy. and TV-tennis watcher My kinda gal, n'cest pas guys?
Wow, I'm off there again, but can guide you a bit in great French film both pre- and post WWII. Brigitte Bardot and all that nudity was cool for a while fellas. Kinda made you feel cool bringing your girl down to that Arty movie house where she would say, "Isn't this where they show all those foreign movies with stuff underneath that you have to read?" Hoping the chick wouldn't notice all ihe creeps hanging around for the midnight "what-passed-for-porn-in-those-days" flick, you could say with patient savoir-faire, "No, ma cherie this isTruffaut (or, God help me, Goddard)". That didn't work, and you all know me for being an honest gentleman and would never hide salami in the popcorn bag. I could help you guys through the sub-titles and symbolism, the vacant
and endless ennui over bodies anyone would like to hop on.
.
How come women never get IT? Bui remember everything you ever said, didn't say. or mis-said through (I think), generations? They tuck 'em away in private shrines and run 'em at you when you're most vulnerable. Thank God they're around anyway to curb us Dogs!!!

More later. and CSX put some stuff over the Garrett Bridge overnight!!!
Sleep tight and don't let the Jacuzzi bite.
Rix

rixflix aka Captain Video. Blessed be Jean Shepherd and all His works!!! Hooray for 1939, the all time movie year!!! I took that ride on the Reading but my Baby caught the Katy and left me a mule to ride.

Loser should buy winner a Labatt's...loser should have to drink Blatz or Genessee....( adding water to improve either of those dubious brews, remains at the discretion of the drinker ).

I love the...."I have nothing to hide" crowd. So willing to toss out their rights to prove how rightous they are.

Laws like this have merit, but don't let the "I have nothing to hide" bunch make the laws for everyone. They are silly suckers that eargly will tra***he rights of what so many have fought & died for since this Country began.

Though I think the law is needed and has some merit, I resent having to prove I am not drugged or drunk. Anytime you give a sample of your very body, be it urine, blood, hair, etc you are giving away the most prized possion you will ever own, and test do run amuck. Test of your very body can be used to test for things that may have no bearing on the events being tested for. Don't believe for a minute that the only thing being tested for is just illegal drugs or booze.

Hey if I am the employer once I got a sample from you I might as well test to see if you are on anit-depressiant meds,....don't want any mental cases driving my equipment,.... got to get rid of them even though they are legally prescribed drugs.

...might as well test to see what other medications the person might be on too. Even though they have to take a physical, they may be on drugs that indicate a potenial health problem that will cost my business a lot in future health insurance, time to fire there butt too.

Testing is needed, true enough, & thats too bad. But drugs & booze aren't knew.......Casey Jones can vouch for that!!!!

Be careful about giving up your rights, they are hard to get back once gone without a hell of a fight.
