.....We're at 70 degrees here this morning....and just partly cloudy.  The temp to start out with tells me it will get rather warm today.  Normal rise here for the day is about 20 degrees so look out 90, here we come.

Everyone, have a good week.

Good Monday morning, to one and all.  Local temp's not too bad this morning.  We're currently at 70, 71 and supposed to reach 91 today (never did make it yesterday:  our high was only 88 or 89).  Tom, sounds like you all really got pounded yesterday.  Hope you all are all right this morning.

Randy, glad you could stop in!  Be careful out there on the roads!

Coffee, juices, teas and lemonades are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, cantaloupe and watermelon chunks and pineapple slices.

Think I'll grab myself a cup of coffee, and go over to the booth in the far corner.

Gramp - just put the TV over on "The Weather Channel" before I shut it off, and they were talking about that system.  One spot got 7" of rain out of it...

Randy - I was just hanging out all day - my daughter's hubby went to NYC for a ball game, so she came up here, too.  Took in the fireworks on the river.  Might have been able to get her out on one of the fireboats, but she's glad she didn't, as the one we would have been on got tied up on a personal watercraft accident (the other fireboat ended up at a boat fire...)

Time to take the dog for a walk and call it a night.

Wellllll yowzers! We just had a whizzbanger of a storm go past. It is a long spread out system, so there is more of this to come. The temp dropped from 87 to 70 in a matter of a few minutes and it rained bullfrogs for an hour or so. There were numerous lightning strikes, traffic accidents, alarms of all kinds going off and sirens everywhere it seems. No report yet of any casualties. The rain was more than welcome in a dry and thirsty land!! More thunder now to the southwest, so more in store. Stay safe

Evening all.....

Larry, shot past your place on the 4th, had to run up to Gouverneur and grab a load of napkins.  Traffic wasn't bad till I hit the Thruway, LOTS of people between Syracuse and Buffalo.

On my way out towards Binghamton, NY, with another load of napkins.  Gave up fighting the holiday travelers (whoever said people would drive less this year never stood out on the toll road, lots of backups at the toll booths.)

see everyone later....

Well, taking a break while stripping a door in preparation for new paint...

Busy day on the railroad yesterday.  Worked the three regular runs, then the evening wine train, resulting in a time off duty exactly 12 hours after we signed on....

Started my training as a conductor yesterday, too.  The toughest part is training under different people.  One likes to let you work this much, the other lets you work that much.  If I can continue to work well for 21 more trips, I'll get certified and then I can work the way I want to.....  We've got some up and coming trainmen, as well, so we're getting a few more crewmembers to share the work.

Sorry I missed lunch - daughter was up for the holiday, stayed overnight so she could enjoy a relaxing (for her) day on the train (all 4 trips), then hung around overnight again for a picnic in the back yard (and to help a bit the the remodelling project).

Back to work...

Well, since no one gave me any suggestions for Sunday Dinner, here's what I came up with:

1.  Meat loaf w/shellie beans

2.  Country fried steak

Side dishes:  mashed taters w/gravy, green beans w/shellie beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw, macaroni & cheese and dumplings

Beverages:  iced tea (sweet & unsweetened, w or w/out lemon), lemonade, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Sprite, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew (reg. & diet), RC Cola, Dr. Pepper

Desserts:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following cobblers:  apple, blueberry, cherry, peach, strawberry and the following pies:  coconut cream, lemon meringue, chocolate, and banana pudding.

You all have a great afternoon, and enjoy!!

Good morning everyone. (Grabs big mug of coffee and a cinnamon roll)

How about at least offer a big pitcher of lemon iced tea? It's supposed be well over 100 degrees F. in my area over the next week or so. Dead [xx(]

We have 75 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and the humidity is sitting right at 75%. The temperature here will hit 85 or a little better than that before this day is over with. Tomorrow it is supposed to be a bit cooler here.

Right now I am taking care of some mundane, routine chores, such as doing a load of laundry and I just finished scrubbing the toilet in my bathroom, and UGH!! , it needed it.

CW, thanks for fixing breakfast for all of us, I think I'll grab a couple pancakes and a cinnamon roll while I am in here. I am hungry this morning. I've got a package of Betty Crocker blueberry muffin mix and I might just make myself some blueberry muffins before I head for work at 11:00. Chef [C=:-)]

....I don't think we'll see 90 today but it does look to be mostly sunny and we're starting out with {now}, 66 degrees.  So plus 20 for the projected high today.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Looks like it will be a rather warm day around our home area.  I think they are calling for a high of 90, with the humidity rising also.  (yuck)

Here's coffee, fruit juices, lemonade and tea (cold and hot).

On the breakfast bar:  cinnamon rolls, several flavors of muffins, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and buttermilk pancakes and waffles.  And we've got cantaloupe and watermelon chunks in the fridge.

Does anyone have any requests for Sunday Dinner today?  If so, please let me know as early as possible, so I can start preparing our meal for the day.

We have two delinquents named Heidi (Bijon mix) and Laci (Maltese). Laci is OK, but Heidi will break out of the fence and head for the hills in the flash of an eye. They live inside and only go out every so often, and we are pleased to get them back inside. We had a yard dog named Missy, now deceased, who was the ideal watchdog. Nothing escaped her attention. I told someone that she was a borkin spaniel cause she borked all the time! They can really get under your skin and are more like children. Gotta go, a thunderstorm is bearing down on us........

Good evening, everyone!

Mudchicken and Tom, we have to keep a close eye on our dog, Winter, whenever we have her outside:  she likes to use her nose, to dig in the dirt in the flowerbeds, and under the pine tree and try to tunnel under the fence.  And, she's good at opening doors.

Meant to post the pizza menu for tonight, earlier:  but, I fell asleep, sitting in my rocker/recliner.  Mutt woke me up.  Good thing I had the pizzas all ready to pop into the oven!  But, now they're out of the oven, sliced, and put on the warmer bar.  The pizzas for tonight are:

1.  cheese

2.  goetta

3.  Hawaiian

4.  pepperoni/mushroom

5.  Mexican

6.  supreme

7.  pepperoni & cheese calzones

You all have a good evening, and enjoy your pizzas.

Mudburd, your yard sounds like a friend of mine's a few years ago. He had just gotten a big puppy, named him Muttley. He came to work one day and announced that his yard looked like somebody had been throwing hand grenades. It's amazing what a dog can do....

.....Stopped and purchased some lunch and Jean and I pulled over to the depot {under a shade tree}, and had a bit of lunch in the truck.

Was about to leave and heard the Newcastle DP talking about "you can leave behind number so so, etc....", so we waited a bit and soon heard the horn as it worked it's way down past our mall and past the depot....A very long double stack train....Very smooth headed south....Containers from China, Italy and wherever else....Must have been well over a mile long.   Noted just 2 flat wheels on the whole consist.  Really sounded smooth as it glided past.  2 6 axle GE's on the head end making it all happen.

All this on the Newcastle line @ about 3 pm.  Lots of bikers out today {our trail is right beside it at that location}.

Ray - it sounded to me like they burned up the equivalence of the Congressional payroll for a year.  Viva la ban - might as well burn that off the books, too.  And that wasn't even the city's part of it, either.  The city cut services past the bone and then blows up the north side of Lincoln each 4th.  Confused [%-)]

Walt - won't get close enough to asparagus to see if it burns.

Mookie- I've heard it been said that if you are going to spend your hard earned money on fireworks, then you might as well be burning it. I've got 144 x 3 bottle rockets on hand and the only reason I seldomly light any of them is that I would end up littering the parking lot of the credit union across the street from me.....and they should not have to clean up after me! And yes, there are a lot of good things that I would rather be spending my money on, something that I can permanently enjoy, such as music on CDs, railroad books, video tapes and CDs.

(yawn)....am I allowed to do that in front of everyone?

Well, we were in the house after 5 pm last nite.  Fireworks with report and bottle rocket types are illegal and yet between the M80's+ and whistle of bottle rockets, I felt like I was in a bunker.  Doesn't seem to be a shortage of gas $$$ to go to Missouri to buy the illegals, drive them back here and spend more of the $$$$ people don't have to blow up the city for two days.  Figure my neighbors must be extremely wealthy!!!!!

Stopped for the most part by midnite (that's the one law they seem to observe) and then at 7:15 (whilst checking the backs of my eyelids for holes) heard some more loud banging.  No rain, just lots of thunder!  Retaliation?  Wink [;)]

Must find some coffee.

I went over to my sister's house for dinner at 5:00 yesterday and got home at about 9:00 PM. Right away I proceeded to light a few firecrackers when some dumb girl next door to me started yelling at me, "Knock it off!!" I lit a total of 4 Black Cats when I heard "I'm gonna call the cops!!" I won't say what I yelled at her in response, but if she had come outside and politely asked me to quit lighting firecrackers instead of being a B**** about it, she might have gotten a more positive response from me.

People all over my neighborhood last night were lighting fireworks, which of course is illegal within our city limits, and our police officers are spread too thin to be able to do anything about it. And of course the noise didn't let up until after 11:00 PM here. I think that if I were to go for a walk along the bike trails which run alongside the Sioux River, I would find alot of debris from fireworks.

....Been over on the Cajon Pass post responding  to K P's good updates and photos....About 45 min. ago...our weather instrument registered 66 degrees.  It's overcast too.  Looks like it shows little signs of possible breakup now....It is supposed to be a rather warm and sunny day.

I'm kind of counting on it to be dry to do another mowing.

The 4th was quiet around here....and a bit of very light rain at times.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Did everyone have a nice 4th of July celebration?  We sat out on the front porch, and watched and listened to the fireworks going off in the neighborhood.  Boy, was it smoky around here last night, along with it being foggy, after the rain got out of here.

Coffee, juices and teas (hot and cold) ready and waiting.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties, pork, turkey and all natural), buttermilk pancakes and scrambled eggs.  And there's also some canatloupe, pineapple slices and watermelon.

I hope you all enjoy your day, and whatever you do, and wherever you go, be careful out there and take care, so you can make it back in tonight for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.
