EF - Ouch.  That's a tad high, alright.

Wet morning.  Probably a wet day.  Good thing I mowed last night.

Back to painting the guest room....

.....Tom:  Yes....understand your humidity figures.  You fellows no doubt get a bit hotter than we but Indiana is famous in the summer for it's humidity.   I can't take much of that along with hot sun anymore to be doing my outside activities, so must do it around the edges.

Best wishes for a pleasent 4th.  I'm sure many of us have participated in the process to make sure our 4th celebrations can continue.

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Larry, looks like we might see some of the rockin' and rollin' this afternoon on into the evening.  Just saw our weather report, and the percentages are 20%, 6 a.m., 60%, noon and 80%, 6 p.m.  Until then, just plain old humid and muggy out.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, teas, and Gatorades are ready; and on the breakfast bar this morning:  cantaloupe and watermelon, blueberry muffins, oatbran muffins, bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, and homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage/egg/cheese inside.

You all have a great morning and take care.  I'm heading to the garden w/my coffee mug, and watch the trains go by this morning.

Looks to be a lot of rockin' and rollin' going on in the eastern midwest tonight.  Our forecast for tomorrow is for t'storms, which is OK.  I took the day off to get a bunch of stuff done, but it's all inside.

As I type this just south of Toledo, OH, the truck is rocking from the wind blowing.  supposed to have severe weather later.....

CW, doing just fine, keeping busy in the business, BTW, got the never give up e-mail, sent it on to parents and sisters.

Took a different route the last two days, running through NW IL and SW WI, area is very pretty, and interesting to drive a truck through.  Lots of hills and curves, was also looking for pieces of abandoned ROW that the Wisconsin & Southern wants to put back in, saw most of what I wanted to see.

Will take some chicken fried rice here before bed, back later.....

Ed - Thanks for the explanation.   I saw a lot of the condensation over the wings and at the wingtips during the jet demos (there was an F-16 here, too), generally during the high-G maneuvers, and that I understand.  The "tutu" occurred during a high-speed pass, just subsonic.  It tended to pulse, so I was lucky to catch it when I did.

This is a very flat-contrast shot showing the usual wing-tip and over-wing vapor during a high-G nose-up -

Quentin and Willy, our curent temp at 12:35 is between 83 and 85 degrees, with a good breeze from the southwest.

Ed, I learned something from your post on the vapor around the aircraft!  That was very educational for me, at least.

Today's menu is on the oriental side:  chop suey, chow mein, sweet & sour pork, won ton soup, egg rolls, shrimp w/lobster sauce, beef w/broccoli, pepper steak w/onion, shrimp w/mixed vegetables, moo goo gai pancurry chicken, fried scallops and Mongolian beef.  Plus, we have pork fried rice, shrimp fried rice, beef fried rice, chicken fried rice,, vegetable fried rice and special fried rice.

Hope you all enjoy the change in menu today, and have a great afternoon!

Mookie and Larry,

The plume (tutu) at the rear of the wing is water vapor.

Because of the shape of an airfoil, (wing) air moves over one surface faster than over the other.

At high forward speeds, you get the plume where the two air streams meet.

Because they intersect with such force, the water or moisture in the air is condensed...quite similar to the condensation found in air compressors...air compressed quickly forms condensation and heat.

You can often see this effect at the tips of the wing...swept wing and retractable wing air craft can put on quite a show...and any Delta wing, like the French Mirage, can create this effect simply by accelerating or turning sharply.

The shape of the plume depends on the speed of the air craft and the moisture content of the surrounding air...the closer to mach 1 you get, the more the air compresses at the trailing edge.

Past mach 1 the phenomenon ceases because most air craft that fly faster than sound either retract their wings close to the fuselage or alter the shape of the air foil...the airfoil surface is smaller and the compression is less.

Past mach 1 you no longer need the same amount of lift supplied by the airfoil...your velocity overcomes the need for it, you simply need steering surfaces.

Unleaded here in Omaha is still between $3.80 and $3.90, depending on where you go.

It's already 80 degrees at 10:00 AM today. We have a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and severe weather is possible. Storms are the last thing Omaha needs, since 3,800 households are still without power, nearly 5 days after the thunderstorms from last Friday. I would enjoy a storm, though!

.....Earlier, at my first look, it was 67....add 20 to that and it should get rather warm today.  Right now humidity does feel reasonable though.  Still more shrubs to trim.  Have been sidetracked lately.  Don't do that when the humidity is high coupled with hot sun.

Several beautiful days here...including yesterday.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Hope you all had a very good evening!

The coffee, juices, lemonade and teas are made for today.  Looks like it's going to end up being a hot day around our area; they say we're going up to a high of 90 today.  Oh well, guess the cool, pleasant temps couldn't last forever.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, hash browns, buttermilk pancakes w/maple or blueberry syrup, scrambled eggs, cantaloupe slices and chunks, and nice, cool watermelon.  There's also bagels and bear claws

Think I'll take my mug of coffee, and head into the garden, watch nature and trains.  Just give me a holler if you need anything!

He was in Omaha just last year, so you never know.

Willy, I am considering writing a letter to whomever is responsible for booking concerts at the Washington Pavilion (formerly the old Washington High School here in Sioux Falls), and asking them to consider bringing Lightfoot to Sioux Falls for at least one concert. The main concert hall or auditorium at the Washington Pavilion has excellent accoustics. I would tell them  that Gordon Lightfoot and his band are considerably better than any of the "junk" that they have listed in an online suvery that I have filled out a couple times. I would also tell the Washington Pavilion that Gordon is not a "has been", but is still very much in demand by a lot of people these days.

Mookie, don't worry:  Mutt's not really in the doghouse!  (Of course, Win stays in the house, and we don't actually  have a doghouse!)  And, here's the Kiss the Cook apron for you!

Things were kind of back to normal, people wise, at Produce this morning:  only had 84 people today.  Unfortunately, we had a wreck out front this morning.  A lady, her daughter, and grandson were almost hit by a car.  They were just about ready to go back to their car and get in to sit down for awhile, when a grey car, possibly a Toyota, hit a black Chevy Blazer and the daughter's white car.  No one was in the Blazer, but the white car was rear ended, and pushed up onto the sidewalk.  Had two different patrol cars, and the first one carted off the driver of the grey car to jail (he had apparently been drinking).

Got some fresh peaches today at Produce, along with onions, iceburg lettuce and yellow summer squash.

Now to post today's menu:  open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, green beans, cole slaw, and dinner rolls.

Everyone have a great afternoon, and take care!!

C - eh? - N - eh? - D - eh?

Canada Day marks the beginning of a four day general event here in my area along the St. Lawrence River.  Actually, with the 4th being Friday, it'll be a six day event - lots of folks from both sides of the River having a good time (some perhaps will have too good a time).

As CP2816 points out, Canadians are very civil - always a pleasure to deal with them.

They do run into some problems on the Interstate, though.  Just a little too fast....

Thanks for pointing out to the rest of us that today is Canada Day. In the summer of 1979 I had gone to Calgary, Alberta for a NMRA convention, and I found the Canadian people to be some of the most graceous and hospitable people on the face of the earth. The hospitality of the Canadian people that I had experienced that week is something that I will never forget. I was motivated to make this trip in part, by the music of Canada's premier folk artist, Gordon Lightfoot, and I dream of seeing him come to Sioux Falls for a concert or two, but being that he is nearing 70 years in age, I kind of doubt that will ever happen.
