While you are around the diner - what's with the hurricane I hear may hit Texas?  Didn't get many details except EDUARDO - wonder if it is heading for Houston?  Where from?

AND - is it too early to get a winter forecast for our neck of the woods?  Not that it will matter, since I will just reach out and get the paper and wave to the driver as he has to go to work in 30 inches of snow and 40 mph wind.....Cool [8D]

Well, Eduardo already has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It could be at hurricane intensity by the time it hits Texas on Tuesday. The official National Hurricane Center track forecast does indicate landfall very close to Houston, but it's not set in stone yet. Houston Ed should probably watch this, though.

It's still a little early for a winter forecast. And, to be honest, the winter forecasts are never correct. Usually, you can expect just the opposite of what the forecast predicts. It's also amusing when Meteorologist A predicts above average snowfall and Meteorologist B predicts below average snowfall. They really have no idea (and I don't either).

I just got off the phone with Nance69.  She called to let me know that her computer is acting up, and the server was down.  She said to tell everyone THANK YOU FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES FROM FRIDAY, and she returned the HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISH to Jess.   She didn't want any of you to think she was ignoring your wishes to her for a happy birthday.

The official high temperature in Omaha today was 100 degrees.

GOOD ONE Willy; now if we could get the "Local" squirrels to convert, maybe they'd

stay out of our yard.

They wouldn't have to go far at all; a Baptist Church right acros the street, and

an Episcopal Church 3 doors north. Then maybe we'd only see them at Christmas and Easter.

(if they want any other denomination, they'll have to get their own bus passes.)

Good Monday morning, everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend, and ready for another week.

Coffee is ready; fresh juices made up and cooling in the fridge.  There's hot water for tea, and there's also fresh iced teas and lemonade along with fruit punch, all ready to go.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, cantaloupe, watermelon, tomato slices, bagels and bear claws.

Hope everyone has a great morning.  Think I'll check and see if the paper has shown up, get a refill on my coffee, and head outside and listen and watch the trains go by.

....Monday......Have a few starters in this morning.  These next few days are to be hot and humid....{so what else is new}...but they say really hot and humid.  We'll see.

Right now it's 70 degrees and just a bit hazy with the sun peaking thru the neighbors trees.  And, and I hate to see this, but it's rising somewhat later each morning as we probably realize...That means we're heading to winter...!  We've lost about 23 min. of daylight in the evening already.

But sunshine should be prevalent today here....Our best wishes to all for a good week.

A mere 64 as I write this - and only the mid 70's by this afternoon.  Same thing all week.  Mom won't know what to do when she gets back to Phoenix, which has been over 110 almost daily.

Was headed north from Syracuse yesterday when I noticed a northbound CSX running alongside us.  Caught a pic of the lead engine on a highway bridge, then ran ahead and got all five units at a crossing.   Waited forever for it to get to an overpass further north, (including a visit by I state trooper who I fortunately knew), and finally gave up.  It was less than ten miles between the last place I saw them and where I was waiting, but I didn't think I'd miss them.

Turns out maybe I didn't - I think I heard the DS talking to them later, after I got home.

I'll get a couple of the shots on later.  The interesting thing was the locomotive consist - 2 GE's, a road slug (said so on the side of the cab), and a couple of GP-38's.  Had to have been a power move.  The road slug looked freshly painted, and in standard colors, not gray.

Good morning Train Land,

Just a few moments to say hello too all and to wish everyone a great day for rail roading in any scale.

I have the Grandsons over for the week it should be a great week here at the Red Horse lodge, I plan on doing some train related stuff with the kids and just enjoy being their GrandPa.

It is a tradition that on a Natives Birthday we make or get presents for others as a way to celebrate, I gave the two boys their first HO locomotives (steam) 0-6-0's and they love them.

Well thats it for me, a cup of coffee and I'm out of here!

I think I'm in that Tribe after last night - discovered a leak (basically unfixable, so in market for new) in my waterbed mattress just before bed last night.  Recliner didn't cut it, so I opted for the couch, which was only marginally better.

Mornin. 83 degrees and clear in Carolina this Monday morning. Not much to report other than a friend's street was completely blocked by downed trees Saturday night after that storm came through. They had 70 mph straightline wind there. A busy day ahead, so gotta go. Stay cool

I found out about it last night after I got home from dinner with the extended family.  I can only guess that aside from the fact that the owner of the truck was a fire buff, he may not have had much experience operating the rig in areas where such hazards existed.

Ogdensburg is about 40 miles north of me.

Sorry about the bad night. (I'm working on a court exhibit, dumb kid vs. electric line and I'm cringing at the vision of that scene with the trooper and the antique firetruck diver. In what I'm involved in, the kid is still with us....)

On the other hand, I'm looking for the grave of a CB&Q location engineer who failed to add a curve to his R/W map in 1882.  If I find him (F.E. Calvert), I'm gonna jump up and down on his grave just in spite. His ommission is driving us nuts.

Sounds like you guys had a really bad night!  I sincerely things start improving for you!!

Eastcoasters, sorry about lunch being so late today.  (Basically, probably right on schedule for you all on the westcoast!)  On this afternoon/evening menu:

1.  6 oz. sirloin

2.  baby back ribs

3.  burritos (beef, and beef & bean)

4.  chimichangas

5.  smoked cheddar bacon burger

Side dishes:  corn on the cob, garden salad (and to go with #s  3 & 4, a bed of shredded lettuce with diced tomatoes & onion and cream cheese)

And for dessert:  apple, cherry and peach cobblers w/vanilla ice cream.

I'm not sure what the current temp is, but when you're out walking in the sun, it's very, very warm, bordering on HOT!  You all keep as cool as possible this afternoon, and take care.

F E Calvert..... I think his sister, Ann was my sociology professor at U of South Carolina in the late 60s. She looked all of a hundred, talked about everything under the sun except the text, and gave tests that had no answers. At least we couldn't find them..... She drove us nuts too, so she is probably his sis!

Good Morning CW and friends.

I enjoy stopping in here to see what people have been up too and what they have to say, I begin almost every morning doing just this.

I had yesterday off from the EMT Base and enjoyed my time with the two Grandsons, we didn't get any train time in but we did have some fun in the pool as it was a hot and muggy one here.

Each day when I rise I like to offer 1/2 my spiritual strength to some one who could use it and this morning it is on loan too a native couple whom I've known about 10 years and who have been married for 7, they are seeking a divorce and I was unsuccessful in brokering a mediation of the hearts, I tried my best but it wasn't enough, I wish them both the very best today and in the years to come.

I'll grab a cup of coffee and a bear claw and get the heck too work, may no one need my services today!

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  It's gonna be another 3 H day:  hazy, hot and humid!  Hopefully, by tonight, we'll be getting that cold front through here, bringing some rain.  (I almost wouldn't mind seeing some rain this morning:  maybe some of these new nincompoops wouldn't show up for Tuesday Produce!)

Jess, glad you had a great time with your grandsons.  Sorry to hear about your friends.  Hope you do have an easy boring day at work.  It's going to be so hot, you'll probably have calls on heat related cases.

Coffee is ready, and fresh juices and teas have been made and are in the fridge.  On the breakfast bar:  bear claws, bagels w/cream cheese, cantaloupe, watermelon, sausage/egg/cheese biscuit sandwiches.

You all have a great morning, stay as cool as possible, and take care, all of you!!

....Jess:

Sorry your concern and efforts didn't succeed in working with your two friends.  Sounds like a noble try....That's worth something.

Our day here is continuing with overcast sky and rain.  Dropped 1.7" on us overnight.  Some wind must have occured too as some of our wildflower bunches of Cosmos are down.....They are so nice this year.

Looks like a rainy day today.  Not bad, as we've been needing some rain even though this area is way ahead with it's avg. rainfall....Much of it this spring.

I note the CSX double main {ex. NYC...Conrail}, line thru here must be due for some update on resurfacing....New ties are all along the ROW now for upcoming work to be done.  It's been quite a few years since new CWR was put down thru here and the line does see a generous amount of traffic.

Jess - I won't mention the "Q" word...

Someone once told me that the reason a person marries another may well be the same reason they eventually divorce.  You know - you married them because they were outgoing and funloving, but now that it's time to settle down and raise a family, they're still going out and loving the fun...  Of course, there are plenty of variations on the theme.

Last day of work for a week.  Pack up tomorrow and hit the road Thursday for MI.  Got a class reunion and a picnic to attend, plus a visit to the mudhens in Flint, the RR at Greenfield Village, and a certain diamond in Ohio.

Morning/Afternoon all.......

A late start today after a late night last night, didn't get loaded at Spartanburg, SC until 6 last night, then scooted up Saluda and shot the I-40 gorge before stopping for the night here in Waddy, KY  On my way to the John Deere Horicon Works with a load of mower deck stampings for some new lawn tractors.  Will crack the horn a few times coming through Louisville on 64 for you, CW, and then take I-65 up to Chicago.

A good burst of rain coming down right now, temp dropped from 82 to 72 here in the last few minutes with the rain, parking lot is now a river here.

Will hold off on lunch for a bit, but will see everyone later.....

Hello you all:  I'm back from  Produce!  We only had 82 people today!!  That's much better than the 106 from last week, believe you me.  Delivered today:  canaloupe, plums, green onions, cabbage and lettuce.  Guess it'll be a long time before we get taters and regular onions again.

Our menu for today:  Mexican Fiesta Day:

1.  Burritos:  beef, beef & bean and beef enchilada style
2.  Tacos:  crunchy shell and soft shell
3.  Tamales:  mild, medium and hot
4.  Quesadillas
5.  Chimichongas
6.  Enchiladas

We also have:  tortilla chips w/salsa and con queso, Spanish rice, and shredded lettuce w/diced onion and tomatoes.

Dessert:  the various cakes, pies and cobblers on our regular menu, along with ice cream and homemade banana pudding, and oatmeal-raisin cookies.

RANDY:  if you're coming up 64 to 65, we more than likely won't be able to hear you.  That's a little too far from our house.  Now, if you were on 264 East, going towards downtown Louisville, we MIGHT be able to hear you as you go by!!

Smelled good in here so I thought I'd pop in.  I'll grab a couple of burritos and a quesadilla and then get off to PT for the strained Achille's tendon.  Later!

....Randy:

Sounds like you might have crossed thru that "I-40 gorge" after dark last evening...If it's the one I think it is, that's a bit tight thru there and never cared for those miles to get thru there.

Have stopped in at Saluda {if you mean the little town}, there on our way back and forth to Florida quite a few times looking for action on that "hill" but never lucked out.  Never seen a train work it's way up or down that "hill"....Once waited 4 hrs. before giving up.  Yes, it was still being used at that time.
