....Dale:

New weather forecast:  Sunday, fair and mild....with 86 the high.  Just got that during the 6 oclock news broadcasts.  So looks like the threat of rain for the Brickyard has been eliminated.

....I wouldn't mind seeing the 8 car with Mark Martin win it....He's a different fellow than he was a decade or so ago....In fact, I think a pretty good guy now.

Hmmmm.   Pizza sounds better than the spaghetti I had...

Lovely weather on the Chesapeake Bay.   Spent the better part of the day in Baltimore at the Firehouse Expo, checking out fire equipment and spending too much money.

Going back up for the parade Sunday Morning.  140+ fire trucks.  Should be cool.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  It's going to be a very warm day around our area.  But not supposed to be as hot as it was yesterday, in the low 90s.  Think they're calling for a high in the mid 80s for today.

Coffee, tea, and juices are ready.  Also have hot water on for hot tea.  Fresh lemonade, fruit punch and limeade are also in the fridge.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  doughnuts, muffins, bagels, bear claws and cinnamon rolls.

...Sunday morning and it appears it will be a good day for our big Brickyard 400 {Allstate}.....Latest report tells us rain will not be a factor.  Temp. now, here:  65 degrees with light hazy like brightness across the sky.  We're to have lower humidity too, hope that is correct.  Would like to open the windows again.....

Vendors were expressing lower sales around the 500 track on the 11 pm news......The economy....!!  Guess we can find all kinds of indicators telling us that.

Good morning, it's Sunday. At present, it's 73 degrees again in Carolina and hazy. We had a nice cool evening, hardly like nearly August. I remember that every year, usually in August, we have a cold snap. Really nice after the hide searing heat. Q, enjoy the race. CW, thanks for breakfast and everybody stay safe

....The officials are currently discussing a tire problem at the Brickyard.....A back up plan is being explained and will be in place.  All are interested in safety.  Tire wear is the issue and hence, safety....Mandatory pit stop will be put in place to monitor tire wear until they are satisfied tires are wearing ok, or need to be changed over to the Pocono tires.

Even Las Vegas is hurting now, something that was not expected to happen. Perhaps Indiana's economy will pick up with all of the speeding ticket revenue that will come in this afternoon from the racing fans heading home.

We have our big race here today, the annual Nanaimo Bathtub Race.

Hey nanaimo:

How about sending some of your cooler temperatures down this way? (Day 16 of over 90 degrees here)

// walks into the cooler, drags out a 55 gallon drum of blue gatorade and heaves it in the back of Lurch for another day of ducking trains on the Brush Sub. at sand Creek.

You are going to need it. With Colorado being a Battleground State, I guess you can expect the hot air to last into November!

I think they have revised our high for today:  looks like right at or a little over 90.  All I know right now, is there is no breeze worth mentioning.  Feels very uncomfortable and muggy outside.

Sunday Dinner menu for today:

hamburgers and cheeseburgers, fries, cole slaw or garden salad, and leftover pizzas and calzones from last night.

Walt and I did notice yesterday, that the leaves on our big burning bush are starting to turn.  Maybe we're going to have an early autumn?!?!

CW - maybe it is a truly burning bush....it would do that here - hot and humid.  Then it would curl, too!

Sir C - I think I have a memo somewhere here on my desk that sez something about replacing Lurch with a Prius/with a sun roof?

BNSF is having some kind of hot weather sale.  We stopped about an hour or so - right before and right after the lunch hour.  They were running (out of 6 tracks )- 3 several times and 2 several times.  Then lots of singles.  About the time we figured the humidity was getting a little steep, they would run another coal train.  No freight - just coal.  So figure they must be having a sale somewhere.

Saw a KCS in the circus colors.  And they were hostling a fairly long airplane train, out and back into the yard.  Nothing was on the usual flat cars, but lots of longer than usual "houses" that could have had shackles in them for all I could see.  Our usual airplane trains are maybe 3 bodies and 3-5 little short look-like tool houses.  These today were longer and lots of them.

Well, at least BNSF was movin' their tail feathers - unlike the couple watching.

How did/is the race going/go?

Warm one here in MD today - at least until a fairly substantial line of thunderbumpers rolled through.

Hitting the road tomorrow.  Hoping for some decent roads and clear weather.

* Lurch is gonna get replaced by a rickshaw (a wheelbarrow with extra long handles, and maybe, if da beancounter is feeling generous (not), I'll get a bicycle version!)

Well, haven't been back home but about and hour and a half, or so.  Sarah & I took our new cat to the vet for his shots and everything, and he's staying overnight, so he can be neutered.

Stopped and picked up supper for the Cafe:

1.  open-face turkey w/mashed taters & gravy

2.  fish & shrimp combo w/fries and cole slaw

3.  fried chicken w/baked beans, cole slaw and mashed taters w/gravy

You all enjoy your supper, and have a good evening.  Keep cool, dry and safe.  (That will encompass whatever weather conditions you are experiencing.)

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Joe, thanks for getting breakfast this morning.  Just couldn't seem to make it in here this morning, before Tuesday Produce.  We had 105 people, and they brought us:  cabbage, broccoli, cantaloupe, cucumbers, pole beans,  green peppers and strawberries.

Mudchicken, our thermometers aren't stuck, but the temp readings on them are sure creeping up and up.  (I'll see if I can get my knees to work right, and do a rain dance, o.k.?)  Or maybe we should contact Jesse Red Horse up in New Hampshire, for that!  He might have better luck than me, doing a rain danc!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

For lunch and supper today:

1.  corned beef and cabbage

2.  grilled pork chops w/the fresh green (pole) beans from Produce this morning

3.  meat loaf w/mashed taters & gravy

Other side dishes will be:  slice green cucumbers, sliced tomatoes,  sugar beets, spinach, broccoli w/cheddar cheese sauce, and corn.

Desserts today:  fresh strawberry short cake w/whipped cream, ice cream (all flavors including strawberry), and fresh-from-the oven chocolate chip cookies, and oatmeal raisin cookies.

You all enjoy and have a great afternoon.

Safely ensconced at home for a while, until the excursion to SE Michigan for the reunion.  Good drive back - light traffic and mostly clear skies.  Hit a little rain south of Syracuse, but it wasn't a problem.

Gotta get some pictures ready to share.  I'll try to get one or two in here later.

As promised -

Granddaughter with her great grandmother, who turned 82 today:

And here she is enjoying her first visit to her high chair:

Don't let that beaming smile fool you - if she isn't getting something she wants (chiefly her bottle), she will let you know, loud and clear.

It is kind of cute how she rolls that lower lip out to warn you that she's not happy with how things are going, though....

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Mookie, either it was something Great Grandma said, or Gramps was making funny faces at her, behind the camera!!Laugh [(-D]  Seriously though, Larry, those are some great pictures!  And your mom looks great.

Mookie, if you're still around in here, I've got the coffee ready, along with fresh made juices, lemonade, tea, and here's what I've got for breakfast this morning:

whatever kind of cold cereal you want, bacon, eggs, sausages, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapefruit, muffins, bagels and bear claws.

You all have a great morning, and try to stay as cool as possible, and keep safe, whatever you do today.  I know sometime later this morning, rain is to be back in our area.  Just hope it's not any severe storms.
