Sounds like you guys had a really bad night! I sincerely things start improving for you!!
Eastcoasters, sorry about lunch being so late today. (Basically, probably right on schedule for you all on the westcoast!) On this afternoon/evening menu:
1. 6 oz. sirloin
2. baby back ribs
3. burritos (beef, and beef & bean)
4. chimichangas
5. smoked cheddar bacon burger
Side dishes: corn on the cob, garden salad (and to go with #s 3 & 4, a bed of shredded lettuce with diced tomatoes & onion and cream cheese)
And for dessert: apple, cherry and peach cobblers w/vanilla ice cream.
I'm not sure what the current temp is, but when you're out walking in the sun, it's very, very warm, bordering on HOT! You all keep as cool as possible this afternoon, and take care.

Sorry about the bad night. (I'm working on a court exhibit, dumb kid vs. electric line and I'm cringing at the vision of that scene with the trooper and the antique firetruck diver. In what I'm involved in, the kid is still with us....)
On the other hand, I'm looking for the grave of a CB&Q location engineer who failed to add a curve to his R/W map in 1882. If I find him (F.E. Calvert), I'm gonna jump up and down on his grave just in spite. His ommission is driving us nuts.

Mornin. 83 degrees and clear in Carolina this Monday morning. Not much to report other than a friend's street was completely blocked by downed trees Saturday night after that storm came through. They had 70 mph straightline wind there. A busy day ahead, so gotta go. Stay cool

I think I'm in that Tribe after last night - discovered a leak (basically unfixable, so in market for new) in my waterbed mattress just before bed last night. Recliner didn't cut it, so I opted for the couch, which was only marginally better.
Good morning Train Land,
Just a few moments to say hello too all and to wish everyone a great day for rail roading in any scale.
I have the Grandsons over for the week it should be a great week here at the Red Horse lodge, I plan on doing some train related stuff with the kids and just enjoy being their GrandPa.
It is a tradition that on a Natives Birthday we make or get presents for others as a way to celebrate, I gave the two boys their first HO locomotives (steam) 0-6-0's and they love them.
Well thats it for me, a cup of coffee and I'm out of here!
Jess red Horse of the "Did I get any sleep last night" Tribe.
A mere 64 as I write this - and only the mid 70's by this afternoon. Same thing all week. Mom won't know what to do when she gets back to Phoenix, which has been over 110 almost daily.
Was headed north from Syracuse yesterday when I noticed a northbound CSX running alongside us. Caught a pic of the lead engine on a highway bridge, then ran ahead and got all five units at a crossing. Waited forever for it to get to an overpass further north, (including a visit by I state trooper who I fortunately knew), and finally gave up. It was less than ten miles between the last place I saw them and where I was waiting, but I didn't think I'd miss them.
Turns out maybe I didn't - I think I heard the DS talking to them later, after I got home.
I'll get a couple of the shots on later. The interesting thing was the locomotive consist - 2 GE's, a road slug (said so on the side of the cab), and a couple of GP-38's. Had to have been a power move. The road slug looked freshly painted, and in standard colors, not gray.
....Monday......Have a few starters in this morning. These next few days are to be hot and humid....{so what else is new}...but they say really hot and humid. We'll see.
Right now it's 70 degrees and just a bit hazy with the sun peaking thru the neighbors trees. And, and I hate to see this, but it's rising somewhat later each morning as we probably realize...That means we're heading to winter...! We've lost about 23 min. of daylight in the evening already.
But sunshine should be prevalent today here....Our best wishes to all for a good week.
Quentin
Good Monday morning, everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend, and ready for another week.
Coffee is ready; fresh juices made up and cooling in the fridge. There's hot water for tea, and there's also fresh iced teas and lemonade along with fruit punch, all ready to go.
On the breakfast bar this morning: turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, cantaloupe, watermelon, tomato slices, bagels and bear claws.
Hope everyone has a great morning. Think I'll check and see if the paper has shown up, get a refill on my coffee, and head outside and listen and watch the trains go by.

GOOD ONE Willy; now if we could get the "Local" squirrels to convert, maybe they'd
stay out of our yard.
They wouldn't have to go far at all; a Baptist Church right acros the street, and
an Episcopal Church 3 doors north. Then maybe we'd only see them at Christmas and Easter.
(if they want any other denomination, they'll have to get their own bus passes.)

I just got off the phone with Nance69. She called to let me know that her computer is acting up, and the server was down. She said to tell everyone THANK YOU FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES FROM FRIDAY, and she returned the HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISH to Jess. She didn't want any of you to think she was ignoring your wishes to her for a happy birthday.

Well, Eduardo already has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It could be at hurricane intensity by the time it hits Texas on Tuesday. The official National Hurricane Center track forecast does indicate landfall very close to Houston, but it's not set in stone yet. Houston Ed should probably watch this, though.
It's still a little early for a winter forecast. And, to be honest, the winter forecasts are never correct. Usually, you can expect just the opposite of what the forecast predicts. It's also amusing when Meteorologist A predicts above average snowfall and Meteorologist B predicts below average snowfall. They really have no idea (and I don't either).

Hmm Joe, reckon your alls Squirrel was any relation to the one Ray Stevens talks
about in his "Mississippi Squirrel Revival?!"
.....Tom:
Thanks for the info on Cal Thomas.....I just happened to think about that question this morning as I was keying out a few lines re: Lowell Thomas. I began to wonder as thinking about it, he even resembled Lowell of many years ago. Now we know.
And as for Cal's height....No, I did not know he was that tall....I could tell he is tall as anyone who sits beside him on that News/ talk show program Saturday evening on Fox appears small by comparison.
Thanks for the comments.
Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Our Sunday Dinner Menu:
Mesquite-grilled steak, chicken and talapia, w/the following side dishes: baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, three-bean salad, fresh garden salad.
Desserts:
apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and strawberry cobblers w/ice cream. (ice cream choices: vanilla, black walnut, peach, neopolitan, chocolate, and cookies-n-cream)
Mudchicken: take all the Gatorade you want: we should have enough, until the Gatorade truck comes in tomorrow afternoon. And, if you'd like it, I also have a two gallon container of lemonade for you.
Have a correction to make: after I posted this morning, that our projected high for today was 95 degrees, they updated the high for today to only 90 degrees. And it doesn't feel too bad outside, but is still plenty warm enough out there.
Quentin, according to the Internet Movie Data Base, the two are not related. Did you know that Cal stands 6'7"?
Lowell was one of a kind. Once, on THIS IS YOUR LIFE: LOWELL THOMAS, they brought an old time employee/colleague on the live show. We will call him Carson. When Lowell saw him, he said "Carson, you're drunk". Carson replied "Not drunk enough", and walked off the show. Such was live TV.
85 degrees and clear at present in Carolina, with more thunder expected later. We had another whizzbanger come through last night with a good heavy rain. We got over an inch, that I know of, and the lightning was on both sides of us, but went around.
Everybody stay cool and safe
I thinks mookie kicked the thermometer and it got stuck even higher. 104 Friday and 103 here yesterday/ 108 in La Junta (The folks back east still win because of the wet blanket humidity there). 22 days in a row over 90 here now. The rain evaporates here before it hits the ground (virga) and there are heat warnings and red flag warnings from the front range east.
...Will reclaim my spot in the refrigerator this afternoon after another 4 gallons of gatorade.
good morning
Cw thanks for breakfast.Going to get ready for church. Matt and his VBS buddies are going to sing for us.remember the "turf" on riverfront stadium?? Its temprature could approach 130 degrees on game days in the summer.
Good Sunday morning, everyone! Our temp this morning, is around 70 degrees, but the humidity is low. Going for a high of 95 today.
Coffee, juices, teas and lemonade are freshly made, and ready for you all.
On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, pork sausage links & patties, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, grits, pancakes and blueberry, strawberry and peach muffins. (And there's still some pizza left from last night, also.)
Anything special any of you want for our Sunday Dinner today? If so, please let me know. If not, I'll probably manage to come up with something.
Willy and Tom, I'm going to check out those sites.
....And I believe Lowell Thomas would say: "Good evening everybody"......Just was thinking as I wrote that....wonder if Cal Thomas is Lowell's son....I believe he even looks a bit like he did....??
{I'm referring to the current Conservative Journalist seen on "Fox"....}.
We have 65 degrees and high thin clouds as I write, with the sun about to come around the neighbor's trees. To have lower humidity too. Don't know whether to open windows yet or not....Will decide that later.
Hear my first train of the morning passing thru on the NS {about a mile north of us}, coming in on the Frankfort line.....Seems there are quite a few trains on that line, except when I'm over at McD's at their parking lot {right next to it}, watching for one.....Do catch one most of the time though....as we're having a coffee, et...

Well, I know for a fact that American troops in North Africa cooked eggs (When they could get one) on their Sherman tanks, I saw it on a Lowell Thomas newsreel. Now, that was an original character, to say the least!
Any Pizza left?
FYI The Germans in North Africa during WWII used to do eggs on their tanks all the time from what I read. Really all you need is something black to absorb the heat.
