....dinningcar:

I have never given it a thought how each Post was assigned their number.  I believe our home Post was established earlier on as my father in law was a WWI fellow and always very active in it...I see it indicates on our Legion Mag. cover, established in 1919.  I can't say it was organized before WWII or not, but If I had to answer, I'd say it was.

Post 257 is located at Stoystown, Pa.  They have a nice Legion ground just outside of town, and a bar w/food avail and a brand new large addition to the building.  Have a Vietnam era Helicopter and similar 55 ton tank on display at the Post.  I understand the helicopter was flown someplace for the Post to pick it up to bring in to be set up on it's stand, etc....so it's a really nice one.

I haven't been in the new addition to the building yet and hope to see it over Memorial Day week when we go back to the home area and join in the activities, etc....Visit old friends.

Stoystown is located in southwestern Pennsylvania in Somerset County.  Find the Pennsylvania Turnpike {I 76}, and look for the Somerset Exit and our little town {450 pop.}, is 10 miles north of there on US rt. 30.

PS:  I will be watching the Nascar race too if the weather allows it to run.

...dinningcar:

Rt. 30 is an interesting drive thru that area.  About 15 miles east of my home area there one can see 3 states and 7 counties. {At Grand View Point}.

It is where the famous Grand View Ship Hotel was located for decades.  Literally on the side of the mountain.  Rt. 30 was the main east - west passage thru there before the Pennsylvania Turnpike was built and opened in 1940.  Lots of tourists traveled old rt. 30.

My family had an Esso Station right on rt 30 there {Stoystown}, for 45 years.

By the way, back 5 or 6 or so years ago some fire bug burnt the Ship Hotel to the ground....It had been there for some 70 years.  Look in Google and I'd wager you can find info on it.

NO NASCAR RACE SO I WORKED ON MY TAXES. SIMILAR, ROUND AND ROUND IT GOES. SORRY ABOUT THE BAD PUN.

I WILL 'HIT THE GROUND RUNNING' IN THE AM SO I MAY MISS EARLY BREAKFAST. PAULA, PLEASE SAVE SOME OF YOUR ALWAYS WONDERFUL OFFERINGS, AND I TAKE MY COFFEE BLACK AND STRONG.

ABOUT COFFEE, WHEN WE WERE BUILDING RR,s YEARS AGO IN THE WILDERNESS OF AZ WE ALWAYS TESTED COFFEE FOR STRENGTH BY TOSSING A TRACK SPIKE IN THE BOILED COFFEE. IF IT FLOATED THE COFFEE WAS TOO STRONG, IF IT SANK WE ADDED MORE GROUNDS.

That was one of the weirdest wrecks I've seen in Nascar.....{The 5 car and 77}.  They will have to work on that weeping problem at the track.  Believe it was the new track down in Texas some years ago that required major repair surgery from water penetration and a few other problems.

Hi Quentin,

What happens now? Do the 5, 77 and 88 start Monday in their backup cars at the back of the field?

They never show delayed Monday races on TV up here.

BTW, thanks for the coffee. A stop here is always worthwhile.

....Dale:

I don't think we'll see the 5 and 77 in backup cars.  Believe that would be against the rules.  But Earnhardt, could be out {on the track}, in his repaired 88 car.  They had all kinds of body panels laying out on the garage floor seemingly making ready to install them.  Heard them say of 2 {A arms too},...to be installed.  I didn't see what looked like much damage to the actual running gear from what I saw as they pulled it in, but must have to replace those front end parts.

I turned over to another program {while waiting}, and missed them actually calling the race for this evening.  We can find out when they will run the remaining part of it right on here at Nascar.com.  I haven't looked yet.  I'm guessing it will be tomorrow, but really don't know yet.  If so, it most likely will be televised here.

Edit:  Yes, race will resume Monday morning.

Yawn. NASCAR says track will be dry one hour from now. They plan on running all 250 laps yet tonight. So far they have 85 complete. THe Nationwide race (formerly Busch) will be noon CST on Monday ESPN2.

Gee, had trouble getting in here again this morning!

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot tea are ready to go!  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, hash browns, oatmeal, toast, bear claws and bagels.

Semi nice temps here this morning, around 34 degrees F. , no rain or anything this morning.  Tomorrow might be a different story:  Rain, then turning over to snow showers .  Hopefully, no accumulation, but who knows, anymore.

You all have a good day, and if anyone has any meal requests today, please let me know. Haven't decided on anything in particular yet.

Good morning. We have 34 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and it is raining. The temperature here is expected to drop, and we could get anywhere between one and four inches of the white stuff before the end of the day here. I'm not looking forward to leaving the house for any reason this morning, I know that the conditions outside will make for some rather slippery walking. I think Spring will finally arrive here on April 30th!!!

Ugh.  We've got a Winter Storm WARNING for our neck of the woods- another typical winter Monday in Iowa.  And I'm fighting off a cold/sinus infection to boot.  Stay away from me, folks, I'll be hiding back behind the layouts...

Ahh, Monday....

They're forecasting snowshowers and some wind later in the week, but for today, things just look kinda grey.

Latest on the grandaughter-to-be is that she's gone from being in a hurry to "get out" to just sticking around - now they're talking of inducing labor in a week or so.  Proud grampa-to-be is just biding his time.

I'll be over in the corner with my bearclaw and tea, dodging Brian...

........Yes, Tom...I did note you mentioned of being Legion Post # 1.  Wonder how many there are in total....?  Don't believe I've ever heard that figure.  The folks there must have really been the early birds.

The total figure must be rather high.  Lots of communities big and small scattered all over the counrty that would have a Legion Post.

This being the diner, I'd suggest that today Ms Mook is a fig newton of our imagination, but a chocolate eclair would be more like it.

Which reminds me - When my kids were young they'd ask what was for supper.  "Chocolate Eclairs" had a certain "yuk" factor - until they found out what they were.....

.....34 degrees now and gray and overcast skies.  Not sure just what is in store this evening for us....Seems like a generic weather day.

I know we have an interesting Town Council meeting at 5:30 and then a Pacer ball game a bit later....My...busy, busy....You can come out from hiding now Jen....Monday isn't that bad.  Oh, almost forgot, have a lunch schedule with friends at our new Bob Evans @ 1 too.  Gee, this retirement stuff can get busy.

I might come out for a chocolate eclair - at least to lick the frosting off....

Driver had allergies really bad this weekend - so lost weekend.  BN couldn't find too many trains to run when we were sorta, kinda out Sat and didn't hear anything on Sunday.  Sunday nite, however, they ran like mad.

Crabby Monday - I want to have some spring weather and be retired like Quentin and come in here when I feel like it and get a Congressional salary to do so!  Cool [8D]

I have too many hobbies.  If I live long enough to retire I'll be busier than if I was working!

My father just put in his papers for retirement in May.  He's both excited and aprehensive at the same time.  He likes the idea of doing what he wants when he wants.  He's afraid of not having anything to do or being "useless".

Dan - I'm like you.  I've got more than enough to keep me busy for a long time - at least until I can't get around on my own anymore.  Even then, I think I'll stay occupied.

Done with my early morning chores and doctors appointments so now I will partake of Paula's pastries and relax with some emails to RR associates.

Bright sunshine in AZ and more promised, high today near 60, warmer tomorrow.

You in the colder climates tough it out, spring is near.

Been shopping this morning.  Mookie and everyone else, bought back some chocolate covered eclairs (enough for everyone to have about 3 or 4 apiece!  But first, you have to eat your meal I fixed for today.  Actually, it's leftovers from yesterday:

1.  Fried chicken w/mashed taters, milk gravy, green beans, and cornbread.

2.  Pot roast w/carrots, onion & potatoes, corn, green beans and coleslaw, w/your choice of cornbread or buttermilk biscuits.

3.  Mutt's Italian spaghetti casserole w/garlic Texas toast and garden salad, and Italian mixed veggies.

I had the chicken yesterday. Today I shall follow Mutt's lead. He has 21 or so years of experience in Paula's kitchen. What greater recommendation can there be.
