I picked up tomato plants today, then learned BIG hail may be coming our way tonight. I'll bury them tomorrow. Congrats CW on the chlorestorol cholesterol   count. Not only is it tough to control, it's tough to spell. What's for supper?

Thanks to you all for the congrats on my lower cholesterol rating!!

Bob, what kind of tomato plants did you get?  When we get them, we usually try to get Big Boys, Better Boys and Big Girls, and possibly Ponderosa tomato plants.  Those are the ones that usually have the best taste!!

As for WHAT'S FOR SUPPER tonight, let's get lunch out of the way first, shall we?  And for lunch, we're having burgers, and cheeseburgers w/sauteed onions, fries, onion rings, and your choice of garden salad, Caesar salad or cole slaw.

As for supper, I'm boiling chicken right now, to make chicken & dumplin's for tonight.  And for anyone who doesn't want that, we'll also have leftover roast, taters & carrots, and some fresh sliced red tomatoes.  (Yes, I made an early trip to the grocery this morning, before everything was really picked over!)

Believe we are to get some rain coming in late tonight or sometime tomorrow morning, possibly some thunderstorms going into Saturday morning.  Might make for interesting KY. Derby racing Saturday when the races start, as well as for an interesting Fillies racing tomorrow afternoon.  Oh well, hopefully, I won't be anywhere near that mess out around Churchill Downs.

I've never cared much for tomatoes, but I will eat them in a sandwich or a burger if it includes a slice of tomato. My Mom's younger sister Nancy who lives in Apple Valley, California makes homemade ketchup from tomatoes, and it is actually better than Heinz or Del Monte. And what I wouldn't give for a jar of my aunt's homemade ketchup!

What CW has planned for dinner tonight sounds pretty good to me.

I just got home from work and we have a temp of 68 degrees here in Sioux Falls. We have a 30% chance of rain tonight and a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms for tomorrow. Meanwhile, it looks like the Black Hills of South Dakota will be pretty well socked-in with a snow storm over the next two days. The Deadwood & Lead area could get as much as 20 to 24 inches in total accumulation of snow!! The Black Hills can be tinder dry, so the added moisture will not hurt them. I have an old friend, Reed Richards who practices law in Deadwood, and he and his brother Carlyle played a huge role in fostering my interest in trains when I was just a little kid.

CW, thanks for the chicken and dumplings. They are favorites of mine and really hit the spot. Ray, the idea of 2 feet of snow this late is scary.  Like you say, though, any moisture helps when it's dry.Still nothing to report from this area, so everyone stay safe

Darn - I was so busy getting ready for the fire meeting that I missed chicken and dumplings.  Somehow I doubt the dumplings will warm well...

Lots of projects for tomorrow (my day off work), so better start heading for bed.

Larry, the Dumplings actually do warm up well, bowl saved for you.

Derby for the Fillies is tomorrow, (Ky. Oaks) I understand this year, instead of "Lillies for the Fillies", the Garland will be Catnip...I didn't know we had a contender!Mischief [:-,]

Good Friday morning, everyone!  It is very warm here this morning:  71 degrees.  That is normally the high for this date, not the low.  Aparently, we had a thunderstorm roll through during the night; but I never heard it, if it was in our area.  Chance of off and on showers, storms throughout the day, then the chance increases tonight, for slightly severe winds and storms coming through.

Got the coffee and juice ready for this morning, and on the warmer bar, along with the regular Friday Doughnuts & Danish, there's also turkey bacon, sausage, and buttermilk pancakes.

You guys will be interested in this:  on the local morning news program, the anchors are out at the track this week.  The male anchor had the dubious "chore" of interviewing a couple of Playboy Bunnies this morning.  And there are 10 other Playboy Bunnies that are here for the Derby.

Taking my coffee and a couple of cream filled, chocolate covered doughnuts out to the patio, if anyone needs me.

Good morning-

We had thunderstorms and tornados come through my region last night. There were up to six tornados sighted in northwestern Iowa. The civil defense/tornado sirens in my neighborhood went off twice last night, and I picked up some marble-sized hail stones off my front deck. I have not heard any news reports of anyone having been hurt in all this, so I reckon that is good news. There is a very good possibility that it will be raining here when I head for work at 11:00 this morning, and as I have said in an earlier post, the Black Hills region could get as much as two feet of snow out of this system that has been brewing out west of here. We will see a maximum of 48 degrees here in Sioux Falls today.

Good morning to you all.  It is a balmy 71F here in Aurora this morning with thunder boomers threatening all day today as a cold front approaches from the southwest (they had bad, damaging storms in KC last night according to the Chicago Tribune).  I am a bit slower than normal recently as I somehow managed to damage my Achilles tendon and am limping quite a bit.  The podiatrist says its Achilles Tendinitis and to ice it and wear a compression sock and use off the shelf orthotics in my shoes.  This happened last Sunday and it is now getting quite a bit better but not 100%...guess I can't chase my wife around the house the way I used to any more?

Thanks to all for the great coffee and muffins this morning.  Have a great day.

.....Little different weather here this morning....A threat of on and off rain today and those terrible tornado threats seem to be going just south of us now, but more weather lines will be forming later today and they bring a threat too.  Glad no one has been reported killed overnight from the terrible winds, etc....

68 degrees now and on and off sunshine this morning.  We've had a bit of rain...{which we do need....}.

Jim - give up chasing - try moseying - it works at our house!

Fan on overnite in bedroom - and heat will go on tonite.  You gotta love spring.

Rain all day - but I like rain.  Had two young college men in our garden here at work at 5:15 am.  They were in swim trunks - think they were going to take a dip in one of our two reflecting pools....they got a surprise - they filled in the pools last fall.  They looked pretty silly out there when I switched on the lights!  Kisses [:X]

Going to grab one of CW's donuts - they sound good - and go swing for awhile.  Weather always nice on our patio here!

Not a bad morning here - a little cool.  One of the possible chores for today was to mow the lawn, though, and with the rain looming on the radar, I don't think that'll happen.

I have plenty of other things to do...

Time to get to them.

Mookie, my Dad once told me that when I was born, 9/16/1954, Sioux Falls was in the middle of one of the biggest thunderstorms he had ever seen. And ever since I can remember, I have always had a liking for rainy weather. But then after we have had four or five days of solid gloomy weather, it begins to wear on me and I welcome sunlight.

As frightening and damaging as Mother Nature can be, I'm with you Ray...I have always been fascinated by thunderstorms, big snows, etc.  My wife and I once stood at our front door as a big thunderstorm approached from the southwest and watched as a bolt of lightening hit the tree on our parkway out by the curb and split it in half (lots of electronics damage at our  home and that of our neighbor, thank goodness for insurance).

Jim & Ray - that is how our Willy got interested in meteorology and will pursue it as a career.

And western Nebraska is now having a blizzard - they close part of I-80 around Big Springs - the sun is shining brightly here in Lincoln!  58 degrees for today!  Smile [:)]

CW, thanks for the buttermilk pancakes and the danishes. I slept in again today, and it is 78 in Carolina. All this talk of mowing the grass is making me envious. When I could do it, I hated it. Now that I can't, it is a fond memory. Stay safe

....Tom....sorry you indicate you can't get out and do mowing now...That is a job here at home I kinda enjoy.  Have a nice wide open flat lawn with the back yard connected to the golf course and it's pleasant to just get on the tractor {in nice weather}, and make it look nice.  Hopefully, in the future you will be able to do so again.

Some one mentioned snow in an above post here....I saw video on TV this morning from {I thought}, southwestern S. Dakata}, but maybe it was Nebraska....Said I-80 was closed with some areas having 3 and 4 feet of the stuff...!!  Terrible for 1st week in May.

Walt:

Note your area is somewhat in line with the weather coming in from the southwest....How is it behaving now.  Up here, we're getting some off and on {nice rain}, but it does contain some wind...Gusts perhaps in the 25 mph bracket.  Believe we're just to the north of the projected path of the really nasty stuff....

Quentin, Walt's just gotten home from the chiropractor, and is getting comfortable, so I'll answer your question.  We have had thunderstorms and plain old rain off and on all afternoon.  That's why I wasn't on to post lunch today.  Didn't want to be on the puter, with the thunder & lightning!  Also, we're under a flood watch until 10 p.m. tonight, along with a moderate to severe chance of some bad thunderstorms coming in.  (yuck, yuck, yuck).  But, at least it's now that four letter word that begins with s and ends in w!

Here's tonight's Friday Fish Fry menu:  cod, flounder, haddock, halibut, perch, salmon patties, shrimp, fries, baked beans, hushpuppies, corn on the cob.  Sides:  cole slaw, garden salads.  Desserts:  regular list of pies, along with chocolate cake.

Hope everyone can stay as dry as possible tonight.  Oops:  hearing thunder again.

Quentin, just went out and looked at our rain gauge....empty this morning....now has

about an inch and a half in it. Been raining fairly steadily since about 2:00 this

afternoon, several very hard showers with the streets trying to flood as storm drains

weren't able to carry off the excess water fast enough.

We've had gusts of wind up to about 50 mph also, no power outages that I've heard

about, a few tree limbs down across the city. Supposed to be more of the same through

out this evening and into tomorrow morning.

People at Churchill Downs have been looking for any and all the shelter they can find

due to this rain. (a lot of the ladies Derby Hats are probably very soggy by now!)

If anybody bets on the horses today, here's a safe one: Bet on the "Mudders"!!

Walt - I'm betting on the filly.  If she wins, won't I look really smart and if she loses, well, I don't have any money anyway.  Big Smile [:D]

It's the weekend and the chicken has been missing for quite some time.  Wonder if his doorbells are sitting on him keeping him from getting to the puter?

Rain all done - think snow all done, too.  Northwest Nebraska really took a hit.  Heading to bed - taking a beagle with me - in case I need a snack during the nite.

Evening folks, This weather for late winter & spring has been fierce for most of the country. Im' sure this has happned before. Point, Okla. has been hit by a tornado west of Tulsa. Our friend ( Indy Mindy) was heading to Tulsa to see sister .  Dont' know if she made it yet , she dont' ans. cell phone , hopefully it is in a bad spot. She lost Flatwheel last Nov.and been a rough road to haul for her . Things were getting better for her ,Lord Melinda dont' need more grief . The weather guessers aint' very helpful as where it was at from Tulsa. ~~~ Sometimes life aint' so hot.  Hope those big baloons dont' get blown away for the parade .

....Walt:

I'll guess some of those "hats" at the Derby location have been blown into the next county.  Expecially those silly ones with practically wings on them....ha.

My rain gauge only accumulated .025" today....We're just north of the progression of the line of storms...at least the severe part.  Brisk wind up here today, maybe 25 or so mph but nothing more serious that I know of.

We need the rain but not the storms.  I understand up to 7 people have perished because of the severe stuff so far.  Terrible.

Good morning! Since no one else has been in here this morning, I will take charge of serving breakfast. On the menu for breakfast this morning we have blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, pork sausage links, orange juice and coffee......the coffee just finished brewing! An assortment of rolls, donuts and most importantly, bear claws! And there's a couple "beagles" here for Mookie as well.

It finally quit raining in my hometown last night, but since I lack a rain gauge, it's hard for me to tell just how much Sioux Falls had gotten. I got pretty well soaked walking home from work yesterday afternoon, despite the fact that I was wearing a vinyl poncho. At last report we had 32.9 degrees here and it's supposed to be a fairly nice day here, although quite windy.

I hope the rest of you out there have a good day!

.....Been thru Lousiville many times on I-65 but know not what part of the city Churchhill Downs is located.  Can you see any of it from the interstate Walt....?  Guess I don't remember.

I'll bet there is plenty of mud for people to tramp around in there today.

Haven't looked at the radar yet this morning but believe the threat for serious nasty weather is beyond us now.  Total rainfall from yesterday thru overnight has been .6".  Not bad, but we need more.  Just thankful the severe stuff missed us.

Temp. now:  57.6 degrees and overcast.

Q, you really can't see the Downs from I-65, you have to go around the

Watterson Expressway (I-264) to see anything. (Exit Taylor Blvd.)

I saw on TV yesterday some of the women had a hand firmly planted on their

heads to keep hats from blowing away. (the ones that did get blown away are

probably more than just one county away; Thursday for the Parade, they did

have to curtail some of the ballons appearances.)

Haven't looked at our rain gauge this morning, but it was raining reasonably

hard at  4:00am.

Joe, Ray, thanks for "doing" breakfast this morning, you and any others may

have to "Do" it again for the next several days, as CW WILL NOT be available.

Had to call an ambulance to take her to the hospital this morning about 4:00,

Don't really know anything right now, and probably won't until later today,

but speculation is some kind of a heart problem. Before Sarah and I left about

9:30, they had already run a couple of tests, don't know the outcome yet.

Walt--

I was a little shocked to learn that CW had been rushed to the hospital this morning, as I am sure the rest of us are. I have Sarah's number and I might try calling her tonight or possibly tomorrow morning to see if I can learn anything. I would bet that Louisville has some really fine medical facilities, and I trust that your wife is in good hands. Meanwhile, my thoughts and prayers are with all three of you!

Ray, Thanks for the support, I have a feeling that I'm going to need all I can get.

I just called and talked to her, they had run another test, still no outcome.

For a city the size of Louisville, and because of the University, we do have

VERY Competent Medical Facilities here. (some of the very first heart transplants

were done here.)
