Good evening, everyone.  Been busy in the kitchen today:  Tom, I read your request.  I'm kind of glad you changed your mind about the chitlins (chitterlings for you all in the north):  we never had chitlins at home, when I was growing up, so do not know the first thing about fixing them.  (Except I know you have to clean them again, once you get them home, before you prepare them:  even the ones that have "already cleaned on them" .)  But here is what I have to offer tonight:

For Tom and Joe, there's a couple of extra large Barbeque ribs pizzas.

The rest of our Saturday Night Pizza fest includes:

1.  Anchovie

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Supreme

For pizzas 1 thru 6, there are the regular three extra large of each kind.

You all enjoy your pizzas, and have a good evening.

Hello Cannonball:

Sounds like your train trip was enjoyed.....I'm sure you know that Cardinal used to ply thru Muncie back in the 70's and 80's.  Many times I'd make it a point to stop by our depot {now Trail Head}, to see it make it's stop.  And of course that route now is our Cardinal Greenway Trail.  Sad it's not a RR anymore with traffic like the Cardinal, but am very pleased the R of W is still in place and 30 plus continous miles of paved Trail now on it.  It will be paved all the way to Richmond as money is avail.

Years ago, coming back from Asia {from Uncle Sam's work}, I traveled by train across the whole country from Seattle to Ft. Meade, Md. and came thru Rockwood, Pa., {on the B&O}, the closest to my home then....{20 mi}, and it was the only place I saw a water glass upset {in the diner}, on the roughly 3,000 miles of rail travel...Never the less, I really enjoyed that trip.  I had a lower berth {in heavyweight Pullman}, and what a view at night going through the towns, etc.....

Edit:  Tom, our Muncie Ham Radio club does that "contest" mode here too once a year for a 24 hr. period.  They set up in a "field operation"  and make contacts all over the world.

Good mornin CW and everybody. Thanks for the breakfast. It is 66 degrees in Carolina and cloudy at present. We had a day of light rain yesterday which was much appreciated. I had some guys come over Thursday and take down our chimney. It has leaked for years and was decorative only, so it beats fixing the ceiling from time to time. Got a contest on the wireless this weekend so I am up early seeing who's out there. It lasts until tomorrow evening, so something juicy may show up! CW, I hearby withdraw my request for chitlins and will settle for BBQ ribs if you please. Take care

Tom

CW - looked over menu and decided on the pancakes and a side of bacon.  It is cool out this morning and that sounds good.

Tree:  When is your last day to run?

Supposed to be 65 today before another pretty sharp drop in temps next week, so going to find a sunny spot, some trains, a good book and some coffee.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  We have a very pleasant 51 degrees this morning.  The rain left our area around 3, 4:00 yesterday afternoon.  A couple of times, the rain was a little heavy coming down.  But we sure did need that rain.  And Mookie, I did just stay in the house yesterday, except to step out on the front porch, and a little before six, took Win the dog mutt out .

Cannonball, good to see you in here last night!  Do be careful and keep safe on your weekend road run.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot apple cider and hot water for tea are all ready this morning.

On the brunch warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, home fried taters, fresh buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, pancakes and waffles w/maple syrup, grits, oatmeal, bagels and bear claws will be available until about 2 p.m. EDT, so help yourselves.  The warmer bar will be refreshed every half hour until then.

You all have a very good morning, and take care and keep safe, whatever you do or wherever you go today.

Quentin;  Last  Tues. we ran into rain at Dyer / Whiting late eve. and I guess they are gonna get it again tonite . The Cardinal to CINN. was a thrill when trains passed in the darkness. At track speed things are a blur, but in the rain everything dissapears in the spray. ( cheap thrill time)  One can hope nothing is hangin' over the side of the freight car. Things sure look different from the rail to the road .  I am getting ready to go to ABQ. in a hour.  Runnin' xtra board  on week ends soothes my white line fever.  Rockin'& a rollin'.

                                 Respectfully, Cannonball

It'll probably rain

We had a nice light rain most of the daylight hours here today so it might be moving east.  We needed the rain and it was a good slow one.

Feels good to sit down.  Spent the day building a cabinet to put the cash register on at the station.  Right now it's on top of one of those personal refrigerators.  Eventually we're going to replace the little picnic table that's in the office, too.

Hope the stain/varnish dries by morning so I can cart it down.

It'll probably rain.

Work X 100 today...yech but it kept me inside and warm.  Can't complain about that!

As a late B-day present my wife/parents got me a sweet scanner set-up.  I have an external (magnet mounted) antenna, external (12v) power supply, and a decent scanner finally!  From my house in Oshkosh I can hear conversations from both Neenah and North Fond du Lac.  Can't wait to actually hear what's going on when I get closer to one of those yards.

First trip to puter today.  Been downstairs all morning - have hitch in git-a-long and been sitting on an ice pack.  Feels a little better.

I don't know if anyone east of us will get rain.  We have pretty well rung out the rain here.  Finally looks like it might clear up later today.  I am almost positive we have had close to 3 inches this last spell.  Good to go into winter with ground water.

Must find something hot to drink.  It is chilly.  Maybe I can dunk a teabag in Tree's hot water?

CW - stay out of rain.  It's wet.  Trust me.

.....Mid morning temps in mid 50's with light rain....Actually, it feels mild outside with no wind blowing.  We do need the rain as it's been dry {with few exceptions}, for roughly 2 months now.

Glad I finished up my bit of Winter prep yesterday as it was clear skies and sunshine.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Getting some rain; and, of course, with the rain comes accidents.  There's been several already this morning; even have a truck stuck under the railroad overpass at 3rd and Eastern Parkway.  Been awhile since one's gotten stuck there.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are all ready; have hot cider for the mudchicken when he comes in.

All kinds of doughnuts, danishes, are on the counter, as well as bagels and bear claws.

Everyone have a good morning.

Actually, I can see justification for the whole "airing out" thing with electric heat.  The draft of a wood stove or an oil or gas furnace is going to suck some outside air into the house through whatever leaks may exist, unless they are vented outside for their combustion air (or the house is really tight, which does happen).  Electric doesn't.

Yes, and I consider our house to be rather tight.  Even have seals at the electric outlets at the inside walls of the house.  All outside walls have tightly packed blowed in insulation.  But to suppliment getting air into the house on a regular basis, that occurs each time the electric drier is run,  No house is 100% tight, so the drier must pull air in to make up for what exhausts out the vent.

Good afternoon!  Went for a walk this morning; doesn't feel too bad out.  Breeze isn't as much as they thought it would be today.  Guess it's (wind/breeze) waiting for the rain tomorrow.

Lunch and supper menu today:  Chinese.

1.  Fried rice (chicken, special, pork, beef, shrimp)

2.  Wonton soup

3.  Egg drop soup

4.  Vegetable lo mein

5.  Beef lo mein

6.  Sweet & sour pork

7.  Beef w/broccoli

8.  Pepper steak

9.  Moo goo gai pan

Joe, I've fixed a container with a little bit of everything for you for work tonight.  It's in the fridge, with your name on the container (large container).

Hope you all enjoy, and have a good afternoon.

Of course, then you have to heat the whole house up again.

Can't be as bad as the time my daughter left an outside door open all day, in the winter.  That door didn't have a storm door on it at the time, either...

They heated chiefly with a wood stove.  Having done so myself in the past, I can understand the idea

I can understand with wood stove heating, I'd want a way to refresh the house occasionally too....But in our case, all electric heat....each room controlled.  Don't even have a chimney.  So no dirt from heat.

Actually, for the past several years I've not even installed the extra window in the kitchen area as Jean likes a bit of refreshing in the kitchen occasionally, even in Winter.

Today, we still have the perfect blue sky again and blazing sunshine.  Cool early this morning...I noted 38 about 7:30.  In the 50's now and to get to near 65 today.  Hope so.

Different thought:  I find this forum with it's new face is giving me more picky problems than I had with our last setup.  Slow operation sometimes...difficult to control and keep features one clicks on....and in general not as pleasant to deal with....extended lines in posts in some cases....Seemed to behave better {for me}, right after it was originated recently.  That is with what I could figure out how to do early on....

Do like the features of the "home" and "end" keys....and another feature seems better is the "quote" function.

Have two smaller ones to go yet, but won't do that until later....Wife likes to be able to get some fresh air in, etc....

Heck, I know of one family that routinely (ie, daily) opened the front and back door to air the house out during the winter.  They heated chiefly with a wood stove.  Having done so myself in the past, I can understand the idea.

Working the railroad on Saturday, and the weatherguessers are guessing rain.  Yuck.  I'm the trainman that day, so I get all the outside work...

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  A little chilly out, with the breeze.  Temp is about 44, 45 degrees here in the downtown area, mid to upper 30s in a couple of the outlying areas.  Supposed to be a very pleasant day, and breezy.  Then, tomorrow, with the rain coming in after midnight tonight, 100% chance of rain with a high in the low 50s for tomorrow.  Rain to continue thru Saturday and maybe into Sunday.  We'll see.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, cider and hot water for tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:

bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, cooked rice, hash browns, biscuits and sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.

You all enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning.

....This new system seems difficult to work with tonight....and other times too.

I hear a lot of nasty weather being discussed on here from NY to the Rockies.

Our day was beautiful....bright cloudless sky and of course lots of sunshine.  Cooler now.....but nothing like I see being described elseware.

Some rain possible I believe  Friday and maybe some Sat.

Drove out of the addition for the first time on our brand new repaved street.....Ummmm smooth.  Finally.

Jean will pick up granddaughter tomorrow morning in North Indy to stay with us for a few days and while she's doing that I'll continue to get things around here ready for Winter.  One of the larger storm windows to set in yet....That on top of Thermopane reg. windows do a pretty good job with the January cold and wind.  Have two smaller ones to go yet too, but won't do that until later....Wife likes to be able to get some fresh air in, etc....

Flowers are pulled out now and waiting in the trash container for pick up in the morning.

Jen, would appreciate if you would shoo that nasty weather stuff north as it leaves NE.

CW, I have a favor to ask. Would it be possible to get some chitlins? I have always wanted to try some, and I have friends who insist that they are a genuine delicasy. I know cooking them is another story. I bought some once, frozen, just heat and serve. I slapped those things in the micro, and wound up having to open all the doors and windows to air out the manor and clean the microwave with easy off twice! The yard dog wound up with the goodies and she enjoyed them immensely, judging from the grin she wore for a day or so. Anyway, how bout it?
