Mookie, I hope you have had a good rest  I am glad your team won. I have never supported Clemson, even though our school superintendent (both of his sons went to Presbyterian College) was a graduate, and several of the teachers, even though they were not graduates, supported it.

Tom, I am sorry, only because SC is an SE Conference team. I wonder if Steve Spurrier was ineffective in professional football because he relied on the faces he made to intimidate the opponents? His showing his feelings so strongly is the main reason that I have not liked him. I have long admired Joe Paterno and some others because they have kept their emotions under control during the play. I do not know how they have behaved in the locker room but their public image has been that of gentlemen in control.

Well, I'm happy for Iowa, but embarrassed about the way the other Big Ten teams have played.  It doesn't look like Joe Pa is going to get a win, either- which would've been great, since Iowa is the only team to have beat them thus far this season.

A telling observation from the ESPN announcers for the Outback- they said the Gamecock practice sessions appeared to be "lackadaisical", but the Iowa practice sessions looked like a training camp.

Okay, I'm not going to comment on any of the bowl games:  I don't watch football at all.  But, I will say:  to you whose teams won today, congrats.  To you whose teams lost, I'm sorry about that.  I know how I hate it when my UK Wildcats lose at basketball, and the Cincy Reds lose at baseball.

I've got the next round of roast beef, etc., on the warmer bar, and for dessert, I made two cakes:  one is chocolate w/chocolate icing, and the over is yellow cake w/white icing, and both are decorated for the birthday today, and the birthday from Dec. 13th, and we'll include Ed's birthday yesterday.

You all have a good evening, enjoy the food and take care.

Sounds like a classic case of overconfidence.  We know we're gonna win, so we don't have to try as hard.....

Thanks for the cake, CW. The food on the warmer bar looks good, too.

Brian, I am sorry for Joe Pa. College football will lose a great man when he does retire. I would wish him a longer life in retirement than Bear Bryant enjoyed. Yes, overconfidence can certainly lose a game for you. Before the LSU-Fla game this year, at least one LSU player boasted of how they would take Tim Tebow out--and Tim took LSU out.

CW, don't you watch UK Wildcat football? They did much better this year than they had previously.

Johnny.

Wildcat football?  I lived in Lexington for 5 years and never once heard a local speak of that sport.  My son did his graduate work there.  A mention of UK football always gets a chuckle.

Of course, as of last week there isn't much mention of UW Badgers football around these parts, either.

Looks like the Huskers will be playing:  Florida Atlantic in 2009, Western Kentucky, Idaho, Washington and So Dak State in 2010, and Southern Miss for 3 years after that.  I will have to find someone on the forum for each of those states....Smile

UK Football is not televised as often as the basketball games,

so we don't get to watch as often.

And Yes, the UK Football Cats have done well this season,

they get to go to another "Bowl Game". (as players!)

(4th in a row?, 3rd anyway!)

Speaking of college football, How did Missouri do in their bowl game? I would like to see what kind of football I can expect next season because that bowl game, was their Offensive Coordinator's last game with them. Next season Dave Christensen starts out as Head Coach for the University of Wyoming Cowboys. GO POKES!!!  And mark it on the calendar, the is the only time you will ever hear me say this, Go Utah, I hope they win on Monday night! I will Always root for a Mountain West team (Except BYU I can never sink that low) against a non MWC team.

Having trouble sleeping tonight, Thought I would stop in for a midnight snack....

Joe, looks like we were both in at the same time.  Except I was in the back, and didn't hear you come in the door.  Thanks for making the coffee and juice.  Also, thank you for the cinnamon rolls.  Guess I'll put these doughnuts I brought in, up and we can have them in the morning.

Temps aren't too bad this morning:  42 degrees, should drop a degree or two in then next hour, hour and a half, then looking for a high of 49.  And, it's not too breezy out, either.

Joe, and anyone else doing any kind of traveling (whether long distance, or local errands, etc.), take care, and keep safe.   See you all later.

Which corner?   I wouldn't mind having one myself.

(Mookie keeps moving the Hammock, so it makes it hard

to know which corner is available.)

Good morning, all. We have a warm morning, in the low forties already (the predicted low was in the twenties), and snow is predicted for tonight--one to four inches in the valley, more on the benches, and much more in the mountains. The ski resorts love it; we love it to fall in the mountains because the more snow there is there in the winter, the more water we have next summer.

Yes, miniwyo, I cannot root for BYU, no matter whom they play. One member of our church is a firm Utah fan, and her children give a season ticket every year. When one of my nephews was at Auburn, my sister-in-law was quite a fan of Auburn football, and it rubbed off on me, but I did want Alabama to win the Auburn-Alabama game this year, for several reasons. When I was living in Reform, Ala. (thirty miles from Tuscaloosa), the few Auburn graduates there were able to hold their own against the Alabama supporters. Southeastern Conference (and Coast Line--Tom, my father worked for the Coast Line-- forever)!

Our 2nd day of the new year is partly sunny and moderate temps.  Dry...no snow.  Good January weather.  Would like this to continue, but we all know there will be times it won't.  Everyone enjoy the final weekend of the holidays.

SIDE DISHES:

1.  Corn on the cob;   2.  baked beans;   3.  fries;    4.  hush puppies;   5.  Cole slaw

I'm up for the "Fisherman's Platter" with fries, coleslaw, and chocolate cake. I need all the reminders of summer I can get at the moment...

Will be playing with trains in the cold tomorrow...

So Who are you rooting for in the bowl game?

I guess I am just Jaded, I have seen BYU beat UW too many times, and I really cant recall a time when we have beaten BYU. I remember beating Utah once.... in 2006. It ws November, and Utah had no sacks and in that game we got 6. They guy who got 4 of those onow plays saftey for the Buffalo Bills. I am getting a little tired of going ot see Utah beat Wyoming too. Although I would have liked to see the "gesture" in person . I mean come on, you are winning 40-0 in the third Quarter, and kick an onsides kick....  That is not sportsmanlike at all! Oh, and the snow is melting back here, and I dont really need a Jacket this morning. I still have patches of green in my lawn.

Oh, and a question for everyone, What are your thoughts on the Broncos firing Mike Shannahan?

Oh, and that last page (Pg. 333) was half evil.....

And I think Mike Shannahan will end up maybe going to a team that will respect his abilities.  I have great admiration for him as a coach.

We to look for some trains - they waited in hiding until we were busy and then ran them.  Then went into hiding when we were watching again.  Grumpy

RJ, you asked me whom I am supporting at six this evening? "Roll 'em Tide!" I do agree that when you are well ahead of the other team, it is not sporting to attempt to run the score up the way Utah did to Wyoming.

The temperature got up to about fifty this afternoon, and it is now raining; I expect to see fresh snow on the ground come morning, with the temperature in the twenties. So far, I do not expect to go anywhere tomorrow after I have brought the paper in (I just step outside the door to get it) since our mailbox is right by the door. It is interesting that in our subdivision, the mailboxes are at the street on some streets, and on the houses on others. In the newer developments, the mailboxes for several houses are grouped together on a pedestal. When I was growing up, I would walk two or three blocks to the post office, in Wesson, Miss., I would walk about the same distance, and in Reform, Ala., I walked across the street.

I enjoyed watching Mississippi take care of Texas Tech. Houston Nutt has done well with the team.

Kentucky (SE Conference) has done better against East Carolina since I started watching the game--scoring two touchdowns, complete with the extra points, to tie the game.

Sure - I think.  Mookie was our beloved cat, RIP.  I became the pseudo-Mookie when I joined the forum.  A forum member (Carl) sent me a picture of a cat holding two milk pails and saying "Will work for milk".  I thought it was so adorable, I put it on as my avatar.

Simple as that.

Well, get ready for a taste of winter cold this weekend.  Will be heading east as usual.  Get your ear muffs ready.

Well, the three of us just got home about 20, 25 minutes ago.  We went out to the Fair & Expo Center, to the big Stewart Flea Market.  Saw lots of interesting things.  We stopped at one of our favorite booths (High Sierra Barbeque Sauce) and saw our friends.  I haven't seen them since Labor Day weekend.  It was really nice seeing them again.

I don't even know what our temp got up to day, or what the current temp is.  Haven't been in the living room long enough to look at the thermometer.

You all have a good evening, and take care.

I am hoping that Utah wins becasue even though Utah did the work, the BCS gives all the teams in the MWC some money. And then it goes to show theese kids that want to be football stars that Mountian West Schools are not second rate as far as sports go.

And for those of you who dont know what happened between Wyoming and Utah in 2007, here it is:

Probably wearing a golf shirt while his conductor freezes his tail off working outside.  Evil

I'm not really picking on you, though - I saw that exact thing happen last year in Utica.  Westbound stopped to do a pickup in December.  Conductor out on the ground, engineer in the cab in a golf shirt.
