Granddaughter Evie (Evelyn Mae) arrived at 1:35 EST, weighing in at 5 lbs, 13 oz. Don't know how long she is just yet - proud Dad didn't provide that information.

Today's afternoon and evening meals will consist of leftovers: pork chop abracadabra, chicken abracadabra, spaghetti casserole, meat loaf, Chinese cuisine, and the leftover chilis from yesterday.

I feed birds and squirrels at my house. The feeder for both is near Chace's (my cat) favorite window to relax in. I can even tell when something is partaking of the feast: Chace will grunt and attempt to meow when there's something there that he thinks he should be able to eat play with!
I'll grab some speise and commence the lurking...

I took the garbage out (about 20 feet) to the garbage can this morning in stocking feet and NO coat! And it was 15 degrees above! HA again. See what a hardy stock we true midwesterners are!
Tree - I want to come to your house to birdy watch. Sounds like you have our birds and a few more. We mainly feed the squirrels because there are a lot of birdy feeders in our neighborhood and it keeps the squirrels out of them. And the birds just come along for the cleanup. Starlings haven't found us yet; the park two blocks away has some turkey buzzards and lots of crows. But we try to keep nesting birds happy in our yard and the crows can pick up the slow squirrels on the busy street in the front of the house. Eastern Nebraska has eagles, but they are found south of us in the warm waters of the power plant.
More meetings today. I have about 14 mos of meetings at various times ahead of me, so will be in at odd hours. Sometimes only for a couple of minutes to check on items. Then off again.
Must peek in fridge - want something really different for breakfast today. Maybe cold Chinese I hid a while back? Yum....it is good hot or cold.
Good Thursday morning, everyone! We're currently at 30 degrees, and the temp is supposed to reach 50 today, then by this time tomorrow morning, the temp is supposed to be in the mid 20s. They have just given an update for tomorrow's forecast: we could see three to four inches of snow sometime tomorrow morning, just in our downtown area.
Mudchicken, I do make my chili w/spaghetti. Mutt's chili, which we make most around here, has the wagon wheel pasta in it. Sometimes on his chili, I get a bowl, slice some cheese on time, melt the cheese, and mix it into the chili. Depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
Coffee, assortment of juices, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea are ready.
On the breakfast warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, oatmeal, toast, bagels and bear claws.

A breeding pair of Bald Eagles about 8 miles from where I live. Their nest in on a very small island in the middle of the Aroostook river. Fun to watch

We have a pair that lives on the Kennedy Bridge (I- 65) and they've had to postpone
painting of bridge several times because it interfered with their habits, and habitat.
I would say that we've seen "Louisville Cardinals" several times already, but I won't;
seems we are more of Cat's fans than birds.

Larry, thanks for your suggestion for supper: Chili it is:
1. Very mild chili
2. Medium hot chili
3. Very spicy
4. Call the fire department, with five gallons of water per person to put the fire out!
Think I'll have a bowl of 3 & 4 mixed together for my supper!!
Our current temp is in the mid 40s, with very light breeze. By Friday afternoon, the early predictions are for 1 to 3 (?) inches of snow for us. Saying it will be a wet, heavy snow. Not looking forward to that, at all.
Some folks may know the kestral as a sparrow hawk. One and the same.
I have dozens of birds at my feeders every day - they'll easily go through a gallon container of black oil sunflower, and some days even more if I put it out.
Blue jays,
Mourning doves (sunrise/sunset),
Cardinals (also usually sunrise/sunset, I've had upwards of a dozen at one time),
Chickadees (if you are patient and it's not too cold, you can hold seed in your hand and they'll eventually get brave and come get some),
Nuthatches,
Woodpeckers (downy and hairy - they like suet),
Redpolls,
Purple finches,
Gold finches,
Sparrows (I don't know all the varieties),
Snowbirds,
An occasional cedar waxwing,
And who knows what I've missed.
We have had a young red-tailed hawk near the feeder - probably eyeing dinner. That was some time ago.
One thing I've found is the bigger the bird, the bigger 'chicken' they are. They'll scatter first.
I've thought about putting up a webcam, but that's a ways off...
Mutt - they are a bird much like a hawk but smaller. They are fun to watch since they catch mice and an occasional pigeon and then take it up on top of a phone pole and dine.
We have peregrine falcons too - I guess Omaha has at least a pair and we had a pair. They like our scary, tall buildings and nest and raise their young way up there. (shudder)
Dale - we have a nested pair of cardinals and I don't know what they do with their offspring each year. Maybe I can get the kids some directions to your house....
Haven't seen any "Whooping Cranes" around for a long while; but does remind me
of a true story that was going on in our area; seems there was a lost crane, on
it's way to Florida, via escort of an Ultra Light Flyer. (movie, Fly Away, Home).
Not seen any of our regular birds (cardinals, etc.) since last autuum (Probably
since we haven't put food out in the feeders.) Seems blue jays and some of the
rest are ignoring us this year. Mook: what's a kestral?
