Muddy One, If there is En-sign of the revenge I shall Cope-land with it. I hope you have not Sub-lette the little house out back because Chief Satanta will chase you all the way to Moscow. And then we will have Elk-heart for dinner.

All others please indulge two lads who have walked - at least some of the way - in the same moccasins.

Pink chickens...to go with rest of assorted colorful animals in the cafe.....

Quentin - the desk looks like it will be beautiful.  Must remember not to set scratchy items on it or it will really show!

Jack - I haven't tried AZ for any long periods of time, but had an aunt and uncle that lived there for many years.  I can't remember just exactly where, somewhere around Phoenix, but they had a huge German Shephard named Pachuco - is that how it is spelled?  My grandmother was a tiny little woman and didn't care for any animals.  Guess who always wanted to sit on Grandma's lap!  We visited them quite a bit until they moved to Anaheim CA.

Joe - wake up!  My turn!

Okay, folks, leftover meat loaf, shellie beans on the warmer bar, along with some Mexican food for today:  tacos, burritos enchilada style, beef & bean burritos, quesadillas, spanish rice, etc.  So this Wednesday is a comination of DOWN HOME COUNTRY COOKING/MEXICAN FIESTA DAY.

I'll check back in after I get home from seeing the new doctor.

....My, all this talk of snow is a bit frightening....Here I just commented to wife Jean about how I'm going to get messed up on my mowing.  It could use it's first cut right now but the ground is a bit wet and perhaps more to come next few days.  But the sun is shining in on me right now as I type.

And Jen, I'd think you will like your new home office computer desk after it is assembled and in place.  We did similar, more than a decade ago here turning one bedroom into this home office and it's been a good move.  Another place in the house to "go to".  And it really does serve a good purpose.

This assembled {by me}, desk complex is shaped like a "U" and one part of it fits {tightly}, right into the space where I did away with the closet, and makes nice room in the rest of the room for the other peripherals....And yes, this desk kit was really heavy as it came in boxes....I'd think you will be pleased with it when finished.

Mooks:

Please go check on Willy in his hiding spot. I think he is making snow for CSX-Sarah to go schuss her trains through. We are looking at 9 inches (or more) of the wet white stuff by Thursday nite. Cuzzin "Little" has started putting out winter storm warnings here. Ma nature appears to be trying to get the moisture totals back up to average too quickly. No leaves on the trees right now is a good thing.

Know one survey crew out (field dogs, haven't graduated to mudchicken status yet) in the great emptiness of eastern WY that ought to be careful for a while and stay near the paved roads. Cat trax, not even 4wd may be not much help while retracing part of the Cowboy Line near Lusk (CNW/FE&MV/WC)....

Morning all, from AZ. A little cooler here today with cloud cover. Mook, have you ever tried AZ. Lots of NE folks come for the winter or just for spring training and the KC Royals train here.

I woke up before 4:00 and will definately have to nap sometime today but will keep checking on all of you here.

CW, that early coffee was great as I read the paper, which I left by the rocker. It is the AZ Republic so you will have some different news than found in KY.

It's hard to write w/o a tongue-in-cheek symbol on the faces list.

The desk is pressboard with a cherrywood finish.  But that puppy is heavy.  Not exactly small, either.  It will be beautiful when he gets it all put together, but moving it into it's place will be a trick.  He is still very strong for his age, but I am a pansy.  So he will lift and I will slide and we will get it into its final resting place.

I always figure anything heavier than a plate is exhausting. Mischief [:-,]

Not too bad today - but beware - they are talking 90% rain tonite and tomorrow and then maybe measurable snow on Friday.  I may have to run south for a few days to avoid the snow and let it melt before I come home.  Wonder if Houston Ed would find me a corner to nest?

Joe - have nap scheduled for 11-1 today and 3-5 during construction at home.  That should do it!

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Well, I woke up on my own this morning, right about 5:10, and remembered what day it is!!  (Maybe I should be tested for beginning Alzheimers, since I have forgotten what day it is, twice now, in two weeks.)

Anyway, coffee has just finished brewing, fresh juices are made, and on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage patties & links, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and fresh fruit is available also.

Mookie, where did you find a 900 lb. puter desk?!?!  That isn't going to get wobbly on you!!  That will probably still be around when all of us have gone to our final resting places.  Wink [;)]

Today is the day I go for my second opinion visit with a different cardiologist.  Appt. is at 2:15, so I should be able to get lunch together for everyone.  Should be easy enough:   I'll just warm up leftover meat loaf, etc., from supper last night.

Have had some light rain overnight.  But I think it's out of here for the next little bit.  Should have light showers off and on until this afternoon.

I am exhausted.  Had to watch the Driver put together a 900 pound puter desk for me.  I had to read the instructions and count out the screws!  Rough job, but someone has to do it.

Then I was so busy at work today - I hardly had time for my two naps.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better - still have to watch the drawers being put together and then direct the placement in a corner.  Ha - that is all this bedroom has is one large corner - that's the entire bedroom!

Time for bed - c u all tomorrow.

I've been busy, busy, busy this afternoon!  For supper tonight, you have:  meat loaf, shellie beans w/onions, and a choice of cabbage or cole slaw.  Except for the cole slaw, everything is now ready and on the warmer bar.  Cole slaw is in the cooler.

Desserts tonight:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/coconut icing, banana pudding and rice pudding.

Joe, have containers ready and in the fridge, for you  for work tonight.  I haven't heard back from Lance, but there are containers ready for him, also!

And Joe, we're supposed to get those thunder showers tonight, also.  Not supposed to start until late tonight, but you never know.  They could come in any time!!

....Interesting Tom....The beacon light I refer to in my home area used to shine right past our home and in my bedroom window as it rotated.  Sort of a security light as a youngster...all was ok, when the light was shining.

Cannonball:  Oh yes.....The beacon's that were up on a hill side shining out at night had one side very red in color and the ones {on the routes}, that were positioned at an airport, had the one side of a bright green.

Years later, I walked up the farmers field to the concrete base where said beacon stood and it's angle iron pieces were still sticking out of the concrete where it was anchored.  Just in writing this, I wonder now if that base might still be there.  As I noted earlier, it was removed about 65 or plus years ago.

Love the sound of the old DC-3's....Love to watch them take off....First the powerful deep sound as it starts down the runway and soon the tail rises off the ground and not much farther the landing gear lifts off the runway and it's on it's way.....

Good morning everyone. Quentin, there was one of those beacon lights about a mile or so from where I grew up. I can remember sitting on the porch at night and watching it sweep around the sky. They took it down in the 50s. 59 degrees and clear this noon. Yall take care

...Cannonball:

Can't make any comments of "beam" flying but I suppose you might be referring to a radio beam transmitted from airports along the flight path, etc....

We did have a beacon light right at the top edge of our little home town in Pa., and it was removed roughly about 1940.  Elevation there was about 2000 ft.  If the aircraft was headed west, the next obstacle was Laurel Hill {about 13 miles}, and that elevation is about: 2600 ft.  That Laurel Hill would be the same mountain range the traveliers of the Pennsylvania Turnpike would remember as going thru the Laurel Hill Tunnel.  And that tunnel was bypassed back 20 some years ago.

There are a few remaining lights we speak of above still standing.

I can remember the distinctive sound of the DC-3's passing over and especially at night very easy to recognize them just by their sound.

And I have ridden on DC-3's {as a passenger on a commuter line, much later in time}, and have a fond memory of such flights.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Apparently I forgot to set my alarm last night.  Didn't wake up until just after 6:30 this morning, thinking it was Saturday morning.

Coffee, juices and hot tea are ready to go.  On the breakfast bar this morning:  cereal, since I woke up so late.  I'll try to make it up to you all at lunch today.  Any requests for lunch today?

Now, I've got to get ready for Tuesday Produce.  Already see the sisters sitting out in front , so guess I'd better get myself on track, and get it in gear!!

Eastern Air Lines, by way of Eddie Rickenbacker.

(had to look it up - I remember Godfrey, but not that well)

Apparently he gave so much free advertising to EAL that Rickenbacker decided they owed it to him.  They put DC-4 engines in it, and it rattled Leesburg, VA so bad that they built a new airport...

.....The airlines used to fly DC-3's over our little home town in Pennsylvania in the 30's all guided by beacon lights {at night}, positioned roughly each 25 miles.  {East and west}.
