Mutt;  we will slip in to the xmas. party. This party will be different from last yr.as we spent in a truck stop , cause of snow. We still miss the road. Do retired engineers feel the same??  Does their mind wander when the horn blast out a few notes??  I still wander when I hear the Goodyear chorus on the pike . Is there a cure for wanderlust??  CW thank you for supper tonite.  Hope it is at full capicity in the Diner. R.S.V.P.? HEE HEE Respectfully, Cannonball& Shirley

Good Saturday morning, everyone!  Cannonball, seeing a full house in here does the cook's heart good!!  Joe, thanks for getting the coffee, juice and hot chocolate ready this morning!  Really appreciate your's and everyone's helping out around here!

Currently, we are right around 50 degrees this morning, and going up to the mid 60s today.  Are we sure this is 3,4 days before Christmas?!?!  I'm not complaining.  I like the warmer temps.  But I know the kids would all like to see three, four inches of snow (and some other adults I know).

You all have a great day, running your errands, doing last minute shopping, chasing trains, etc.  Just be very careful out there, and come back in one piece!!  See you tonight for SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST.

Wow, maybe I shouldn't have been so pleased to see all of you in here yesterday, since no one has been in this early  this morning.  Hopefully, some of you will start rolling in, for the SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST.  On the menu tonight:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Cheese
3.  Goetta
4.  Hawaiian
5.  Pepperoni/sausage/mushroom
6.  Supreme
And Calzones

You all enjoy your pizzas, and have a good evening.  Rain is supposed to show up around 9 tonight, so aparently, it's moving faster than they originally thought.  Go figure!!

Heh, we're doing precisely that right now.  Papa John's, delivered in 4" worth of the white stuff and still accumulating.

....Yes, Pizza was had here too today, but went about 2 mi. to eat it at the place of business.  Pizza King.  Temp here now 51 degrees and all snow melted.  Nothing but bare ground.  Probably a little fog out there this evening.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Lance, thank you so much, for putting the coffee on, making the juice and hot chocolate; and Joe, thank you so much for fixing breakfast!  What would I do without you guys in here?

Woke up this morning about 4:15, to the howling wind.  We have wind gusts between 35 and 50 miles per hour, according to what I heard on the morning news.  This is following a thunderstorm around 11 p.m.  Scared the bejeebers out of me, because I wasn't expecting it!! We have a current temp of 46, and the temps will be going down the rest of the day.  And Lance, glad to see you back in here!

I'll be working here in the kitchen, preparing Sunday Dinner, and getting the turkey thawed, so I can get it in the oven in the morning.

You all have a great morning; Joe, know Matt will do well this morning!!  See you all around 1 p.m. EST

Good morning all. Well, it's a big event day. I get to ride 100 miles, look at my sister in law and listen to her  while she explains that dinner will be ready at 5 pm instead of the noon meal she promised. It's a yearly ritual and never varies.... 54 deg here in Carolina and expecting thunderstorms, so I have been disconnecting the wireless and trying to get ready for it. I hope we are back before that stuff gets here. I have been singing Christmas carols of late, and my wife told me I should be on the stage. "Really" I asked. "Yes", she replied, "but the stage don't run no more, so take the Amtrak." I am still studying on what kind of complement that was. Good day to all. Ta

48 and raining off and on.  This is Christmas?

Task for the day - bathe the dogs.  They both need it.  Then bake up some dog treats.  They're all out.

Christmas dinner at my house will be served at whatever time I manage to finish it all up.

Larry, I've got my potatoes and eggs boiling for my potato salad, and the turkey's finally beginning to thaw!  I'm doing a little bit at a time, so I'm not totally in the kitchen all day tomorrow.   If I do most of the cooking tomorrow, then all we have to do is heat it up on Cristmas Day.

Pork Chop Abracadabra tonight sounds pretty good to me, but right now I have no apetite. There was a house fire in the neighborhood where I work early this morning and one of my co-workers who lives a couple houses away from that scene was telling me about it this morning during our coffee break.

I had just been to the web site of our local news paper looking for information regarding this fire, and I learned two things; #1. one of the three occupants in that house died in the fire, along with all three of their pets. #2. The location of the home, which is now a total loss, is the home of an old friend of mine, David Dvorak. His brother Gerry is a long-time member of our local HO scale railroad club, the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society.

I've thought about firing up my waffle iron and having waffles for dinner here at home tonight, but right now I don't feel like eating............and I am not likely to know who died in this house fire until at least tomorrow morning.

Good Monday (Christmas Eve) to all!!  Ray, I hope your friends are all right.  That is such a tragedy, any time of the year, but is really heart wrenching at Christmas time.

Coffee is ready, fresh juices made (orange, oj/tangerine, pineapple), hot chocolate, and there's plenty of hot water for tea.

On the warmer bar:  pancakes, waffles, sausages, scrambled eggs, muffins, and cinnamon rolls are waiting for you all.

For those of you traveling to spend Christmas with family, be careful, drive safely, and take care!  And the same wish goes out for anyone who has to do last minute Christmas shopping.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!

Good morning everyone. (Grabs big mug of coffee with a plate of pancakes and sausages)

It's a cool 40 degrees F. as I type this--there is a thin cloud cover to prevent the temperatures from dropping to freezing. Smile [:)]

Good morning-

We have 19 degrees here in Sioux Falls and the wind is out of the NW at about 10 mph. Today is supposed to shape up to be a pretty nice day later this afternoon, despite the cold.

I have been listening to the news reports pertaining to the house fire which I had mentioned in my last post. The individual who died in this fire was either my friend's wife or daughter. This kind of event I would not want to wish on ANYONE, and it has sort of taken some of the joy out of my Christmas, and I feel badly for David and his family. Sad [:(] There is some speculation that the fire was caused by either lights on a Christmas tree, or a candle that was left burning unattended when my friend and his family went to bed.

....We're almost there....On the final wind-down.  Our wish is for all accumulated families can enjoy this day and again tomorrow as it all finalizes...Dinner [dinner]

Here, we'll get things together today by heading out within the hour for some breakfast and do a finish up of a few things to do yet...{Not Christmas presents}.  One thing is run the vehicle thru a car wish and get the salt off it.  It is cold and dry now and will be until at least Thursday.

It's overcast and dry and 27.5 degrees and with some left over wind from yesterday...Perhaps 10 to 15 mph at times.

So could be worse weather wise.

Everyone enjoy.....

Edit Update:  And now...at almost 3 pm, we have bright sunshine and 35.1 degrees.  All the skiff of snow from yesterday has been erased...Gone.  Wind is down now to maybe 5 mph....Much better.

To be dry tomorrow and warmer.  Sounds good.

Truck is now clean too....

The word around here (probably the third busiest shopping day of the year, after "Black Friday" and Boxing Day) is stay off the roads.  As many motorists have managed to do already today (albeit unintentionally).  The wind is subsiding, but we got a couple of inches of snow already, and there's more in the forecast.

I'm sure I'll be around, but here's my wishes for a safe and happy holiday.

We here in Aurora, IL have 23F at 10:53 a.m. on Christmas Eve and are cleaning up in many areas around here from yesterdays horendous wind storm...the winds at Midway Airport regitered gusts over 80 mph last night!  Looking on the bright side, we didn't get the snow our neighbors up in WI and MN got (up to and over a foot in some areas), but just a dusting but Oh, that wind!

My better half put the Christmas turkey in the brine (first year she has used that preparation for our turkeys, and the Thanksgiving one was simply wonderful, wish she had found the recipe years back), and we will need some things from the store before calling it a day.

Hope you are all well, happy and reasonably prosperous this Christmas holiday and here's hoping for an even better 2008!  MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

We ended up with 8 inches here along with some pretty strong wind as well- I don't know how strong because my weather station anemometer is apparently iced up.  Things are gradually improving, though; both of our kids and their spouses are on their way up to Grandpa and Grandma's in Minnesota, and we're headed there ourselves tomorrow morning (gotta fulfill church obligations at Christmas Eve. service tonight).

Merry Christmas everyone, see ya'll in a couple of days!

I am taking a few minutes out of my kitchen, to let you all know I'm still around!  Our turkey bird is in the oven, and I need to get the shelly beans on in a few.  Of course, in with the beans will be onion and some new red potatoes.  Then, when the turkey bird is just about done, I'll be putting my dressing in the oven, and chill the cranberry sauce (jellied).

Not sure what our current outside temp is, as I've been too busy in the kitchen.  But the sun is shining brightly, and it is a bit breezy out.  Not too bad, though.

On the warmer bar, for your lunch, there is:  leftover Italian spaghetti, garlic Texas toast, and some pork chop abracadbra.  I didn't think anyone in here today, would like to have a pre-Christmas turkey and all the trimmings.  That will be ready in here, tomorrow.

Memo from Santa:

I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve Georgia, Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas , or Alabama on Christmas Eve.

Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract, I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us , such as:

1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads: 'These toys insured by Smith and Wesson.'

2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave RC cola and pork rinds (or a moon pie) on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff, so please have an empty spit can handy.

3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace.

4. You won't hear 'On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner, and Blitzen...' when Bubba Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, 'On Earnhardt, on Andretti, on Martin and Petty.'

5. 'Ho, Ho, Ho' has been replaced by 'Yee Haw' And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, 'I her'd dat .'

6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words 'Back Off.'

7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as 'Miracle on 34th Street' and 'It's a Wonderful Life' will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see 'Boss Hogg Saves Christmas' and 'Smokey and the Bandit IV' featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other.

8. Bubba Claus doesn't wear a belt. If I were you, I'd make sure the wife and the kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree.

Sincerely Yours,

Santa Claus

MERRCHRISTMAS to all our friends here in the Diner!!

Coffee is ready, juices are freshly made, and there's hot chocolate, hot water for tea, and we also have some hot apple cider this morning.

Brought in doughnuts, muffins and cinnamon rolls for breakfast this morning.

Also have the turkey for the Diner in the oven now, and it'll be ready around 1 p.m. EST.  Now, I'm working on preparing all the side dishes.

May you all have a great, HAPPY and SAFE day with your family!!
