NS, and predecessor Southern, sub-lettered their locomotives for railroads that they had absorbed or merged. The practice pretty much stopped a few years ago (except for the "PRR" ex-Conrail engines...), so I would guess that it wasn't a SD70, probably a SD50 or SD60.Moving on... A tip from another member on the Wisrail group led me to Duplainville yesterday, where I found KCS 4007. It was suspected to be a UP heritage unit on its way to Horicon (WSOR paintshop), but on further examination, I determined that it is a KCS SD70ACe. I also spotted a CP train on my way out, with an AC4400, SOO SD40-2 774 (rare!), and SOO GP38-2 4449 (another one formy collection of SOO GP38-2s)! A good day for railfanning, even though it was COLD and I should have been working... -Fuzzy Fuzzy World 3 Reply JoeKoh Member sinceApril 2003 From: Defiance Ohio 13,323 posts Posted by JoeKoh on Friday, November 18, 2005 7:08 AM kevin this switcher was not a csx unit.i think it may have been going to larrys truck and electric for repair.for a view of it email me. stay safe Joe Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! On 10/30/05 I went up to Iona Island and saw three trains. The first was Q254 with a CSX SD70MAC leading a UP SD70M http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=123719 I changed locations and set up for another southbound. After a short wait Q403 led by a dark future SD50 and a very faded Warbonnet B40-8W rolled south. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=123720 I again relocated hoping for some northbounds to come through. No northbounds went by while the sun was still up but Across the river two FL9s in New Haven paint led a disabled MNCR trainset south to Croten Harmon. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=123822 So that was a decent day. The next time I had a chance to get out was 11/11/05. I went down to CP5 on the River Line and the first train I saw was Q108 led by two AC4400s the second unit was CSXT 454 "The Spirit of Magnolia" http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=125046 The clouds rolled in and the good lighting went away. Q271 came through with a standard cab C40-8 and a couple of lease units but the picture wasn't that good. I'll be heading out tommorow so hopefully I'll get some more shots in decent light. Some of the cooler things I seen ATSF warbonnet, BN WC, UP, CSX, CSX 2 AC6000W and a SW100 Those are the only ones I can remember off the top of my mind. Didn't include any UPs because it seems like everyother unit on the CSX system is yellow now a days. The CSX trains call off every singal and most engineers will report their train number, lead engine number and lead engine railroad, so you get a little heads up whats comming Reply Edit tomd81 Member sinceJanuary 2002 From: Morgan Hill, CA 13 posts Posted by tomd81 on Thursday, November 10, 2005 12:36 PM QUOTE: Originally posted by oskar yesterday I saw some wrecked cars from the Granitville,SC wreck,my first NS non-local train ( one of the crew members gave me a big smile and wave I thought he was happy to see me I was just happy a train came) today I saw a empty military train with CSX and UP power and a CSX EX CR with patched marker lights kevin Reply oskar Member sinceAugust 2003 1,092 posts Posted by oskar on Saturday, November 5, 2005 5:05 PM basic stuff and a work crew wroking on a switch and a derailed tanker in Augusta kevin Reply amtrakjackson Member sinceJanuary 2002 From: Michigan 87 posts Posted by amtrakjackson on Saturday, November 5, 2005 5:35 AM I also saw the WC "Wisconsin" unit; it was at CN's Battle Creek, Michigan yard about three weeks ago. That WC locomotive was done for the state of Wisconsin's Sesquintenial a few years back( I think 1998). It was done along with another locomotive that looked like a normal WC paint scheme, but then with Wisconsin and US flags above the Stripe on the long hood. The WSOR also did a specialty engine up for the occasion. The WSOR has now been repainted, but I still want to catch them sometime, and I hope I will. Now you've got me a little jealous up here........ Noah Click the image above to visit my website, Badger Rails.
