.....the remains of an ancient Milwaukee Road line from Menomonee Falls, WI to North Lake, WI.  The old tracks used to run by the Harly-Davidson plant in Meno Falls.  Harly did some shrub and tree removal and low and behold!  Underneath all that greenery were ties, ballast, even a section of really light rail here and there.  Kinda neat.
You think this is bad? Just wait until inflation kicks in.....

Few days ago I saw a Willamette & Pacific GP9... man those hi nose units are cool!  Not sure where the "black widow" painted one went but I don't think it is in Eugene anymore.  (this guy - http://cencalrails.railfan.net/wp1801.jpg

Oh, and I forgot - recently took a trip to the coast and got to see some old semaphore signals.  (non operational but still cool)

Last Night in Champaign,IL there was a slow-moving 50 car feight crossing Prospect Avenue. If you have ever been to Champaign recently, and been on that road, you'll know how busy it is!

A line of cars reached back about 1.75 miles from where I was at.

My Reaction:Laugh [(-D] to the car drivers,as I rode by on my bike!!!!

CRAZY DELMAR Coming back.

This afternoon I saw two just recently rebuilt BNSF GP38-2 units at Eola yard coupled back to back.  Both were painted in the new orange and black "swoosh" paint scheme and had two new white air conditioners on their roofs.  As I recall BNSF is in the middle of buying a bunch of these for yard switching in lieu of new switchers as new ones are not avilable form the big two builders (right?).  They looked pretty darned good but the horns sucked really bad!

While we were at the tracks yesterday,we were able to catch an NS unit coal train being pulled
by 2 high hood GP 50s,a GP 38-2 & a GP 40-2;a bit unusual for here,we generally only see
six axle units with those trains.

I caught a UP ballast train loading at Rock Springs, Wisconsin last week, with a Dash 8, a SD60M, and an SD40-2. Usually all we get up here are SD40-2s, so this is pretty cool!:

On the BNSF in southern Iowa, a westbound train, 100% trailers on flat cars (TOFC). Some were UPS trailers, some reefer trailers, plus other dry vans. Don't normally see that kind of train in my neighborhood.
1st train ride was at 18 months old...and still riding the rails!

A U.P. hopper car with the reporting mark of CMO. I looked that up to see it's for Chicago St. Paul Minneapolis & Omaha Rwy. I think the CNW quit using the CStpM&O name in the mid-fifites & this hopper car was of fairly recent vintage...

A CP grainer powered by two SD40-2s going flat out to overtake an intermodal pulled by an AC4400 that was doing at least 40mpr. It was at about 9:30pm last night in light rain under the lights in Wauatosa WI (a suburb of Milwaukee.)

Not at all rare power, but one of those moments in railroading that really takes your breath away.

Cheers!

Jim, was that in Texas yesterday?

No, after being released from Jenks about a week ago it has been in Arkansas since then.

It is currently, as I type, in lower Illinois and headed to Chicago.
