***Ryan, as a youth I had many amphibians & reptiles, mostly lizards. Too difficult to keep them healthy and safe with power outages here, not to mention keeping decent food for them year round.

***inch, I like that last photo. Really shows the elevation change in the track. How does one model that (lay track) and still have the trains operate well?

Got the FIL loaded no problem. He's more agile than I expected. Had to take him to the Doctor (got custody of him...one down, one more to goMischief [:-,]Evil [}:)]Laugh [(-D]) Wife and I were both ready to "throw momma from the train" today. Even some relatives are suggesting we bag this idea and have them both instatutionalized. I'll go along with whatever the wife decides....might be worth having that new train room...tough call.Whistling [:-^]

Passed by a brightly colored (lots of red) GP-something today on a siding with some fellas on it chatting about something. It was a small facility with a dozen or so covered hoppers. Would have stopped if I could and snapped a photo. Oh well.

Hope everyone is having a nice (and sane) day. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Mornin, Coffee please Zoe,

Had some more rain during the night, got bout a ½ inch so far [since yesterday] and the grounds almost dry in most places already. More rain forecast for this afternoon and through Monday. Highs today, mid 80's with clouds and a S wind.

DICK,, the gardens here are same as done, I've even started cleaning it up. We may get a batch or two of whole tomatoes canned from ours and with some extras both our moms' gardens, but that's it. We do both canning methods, pressure canner inside and boiling outside on the campfire pit [keeps some of the heat outside].

JIM CG,, rain won't help the veggie garden, but it's still very welcome, I've got some flowers to transplant still

STEVE, welcome to the dinner and have a cup on me and hope you enjoy your visits here. Haven't seem the Oct MR yet, but looking forward to it now.

Some more from last Sundays trip. We started home and seen a west bound empty UP coal drag [no chance for pics], then when we got on east of T-town we found a UP Loaded east bound on a siding. I did get a couple of the push engine.

I didn't get any of the lead engines then, no good places to pull off. But I knew where he was heading, so we went on home. Then I headed over to the Cline Orchard crossing to wait and get'em on their way through.

Still got a few more from over there, but I'm trying to find out some info first.

Got J Birds this morning and a very busy weekend ahead. I think we're keeping kids tomorrow while their moms n dads go on Chucks ride poker run. Chuck was killed in Iraq 3 years ago and left behind a wife and son [that's when the ride started]. The money raised goes into a collage fund for his son.

Little league football Sat night and Sunday afternoon, so not much rail fanning, less it's local.

Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe.

inch

PS, yesterday was not good for me as far as sports.  Da Cubs lost again, Brewers [even now] and Cards [1 back now] won. Then the Indy ponies won. I shall not express my feeling at this time due to censoring.

RYAN,  I always root for the Saints [unless they play the da Bears for some reason] and had high hopes for last night. I'm afraid the affair with the horses' buts will go on for awhile unfortunately.

Hello....just a quick stop in the diner..

Welcome to Steven Barkley from Garry on Lake Barkley. The signal article looks great, but I've not had a chance to read it. By coincedence I have a photo in Trackside Photos of the same issue. Also, Steve, you said you are an NP modeler, and I have several NP locos and cars, too.

Morning folks!

How about a short stack, some fresh coffee and some of Ed's Special Limited OJ, Chloe?

Venus was quite bright early this morning, got to view it just before day brake.

Now that the NFL Indianapolis Love Fest is over.....

Rob - sounds like you got quite a farm stock going there, I thought I had a zoo with ducks, rabbits, dogs, cats, fish, and amphibians at one time. You got the real deal feller!

Duke - Yep, 28 days and counting....and you will get to meet Ben this time I want him to meet your mascot too! Racecars look like fun.

Speaking of racecars did you know that you can spell that word the same backwards and forwards R-A-C-E-C-A-R

Hey, Hoosier Daddy....don't go hijacking my post!!!

Nscaler - keep your chin up and don't worry. Like Dick said, give it time and this too shall pass.

Ed - thanks for the update on the grove, now we can be assured of another shipment of OJ to get us through the winter. Yea, I remember Tom and Bill from a few years back. Speaking of a few years back, whatever happened to the birthday calendar?

Mike - thanks for pulling for the Saints, but they just about laid an egg last night, oh well, and least the NFL love affair with Indy show is over.

Jim - Thanks! And the tunnel end is finally in sight so you might be seen in me pop in more often in the next few weeks.

Garry - thoughts and prayers continue!

Steve - Welcome to the Diner, and have a virtual cup of coffee on me! Mighty fine article you got printed there in the Oct 07 MR! My goal is to eventually hook up one of my old Dell PC's to the Digitrax system and use either Winlok or the other software JMRI I think. You got a book coming out anytime soon on DCC Signaling, block and turnout detection?

Good morning, all, from Beaumont, Texas.  I found your forum a few days ago and though I'd join in.  It's warm here in Southeast Texas but that's not new for this part of the country.

I model the Northern Pacific in HO scale.  My article on signaling is in the October Model Railroader.  Semaphores are really neat!

Jeff, you're in Leesville.  I have many memories of going to Fort Polk for National Guard drills some years ago.  Lots and lots of pine trees.  If you ever get over this way, there are a number of model railroads in Southeast Texas.  Many of them will be open for display the Saturday after Thanksgiving as part of the November Model Railroad month layout tours.  You can chack this out at the San Jacinto website:  http://sanjac.leoslair.com/tour.htm.

Well, I'm about done with my morning coffee.  It's time to go to work, but then it's Friday so the weekend beckons!

One of the reasons that model railroading is the world's greatest hobby is that the people engaged in model railroading are the greatest people in the world.

Thanks much for the numerous expressions of sympathy. Janet (Shelley's youngest sister) was on a journey through life that was just too short. Thanks from Garry and Shelley

Mornin' All!

Had some wet stuff falling from the sky this morning.  Tried to get on line to find out what it was, but the only clues I could find was something about a thing called "rain".  Ever heard of it?  Strangest thing......

Well, looks like we're going to see some more of that stuff, so I guess I can run some tests on it and find out a thing or two.

For today it looks like it's going to come and go.

If I come up with any startling results I'll be sure and keep you posted.

Hmmmmm, rain, huh?  I'll have to look into this a bit more................

Good Morning, Diners - Zoe, cup of mocha to go, please. Thanks!

Garry, sorry to hear about Janet and your family's loss; at least her pain is behind her now. Angel [angel] Angel [angel]Angel [angel] for those who left to grieve, including Shelly and you.

Ryan, good to see you back in the Diner, even briefly, and now it sounds like you have the end in sight (once you get the new guy up and running). Smile [:)]

Duke, more good pics of JR's cars! Thumbs Up [tup] That one does kind of resemble a go cart... Wink [;)]

Nscaler, I would Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Dick's encouragement. Once you're on the other side of this, it'll be better and you will be a stronger person for it.

I won't get in the middle of the football debate - that sport isn't my thing (no offense, just never got interested in it). Now, if the (baseball) Cardinals can keep a winning streak together, they might duplicate last year's end of the season! Go, Cards! Yeah!! [yeah]

Inch and Jeff, more good train pics! Bow [bow] Jeff, thanks for the link on the crane.

Got to go meet with the trustee this morning. I'm okay, 'cause I know Who's in charge of it all. Smile [:)] Looks like rain most all of the weekend for us. Inch, Jerry, PC, and points east, your gardens will be happy! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Prayers for comfort and healing, and thanksgiving for the rain.

Blessings,

Good evening, finally got the gate design done and mounted the frame and hinges, looks like it will work just fine. This is an off-set gate because one bench is 8" longer than the other bench across the 30" isle. The gate is actually an "L" shape. I had to do some rearranging of the work area ( table, cabinets for parts etc. ) to gain the room needed for this gate, but it worked Ok.

MIKE: Nice photos as usual, I see you are getting more time with railfanning now that the kids are in school. Today we canned 16 quarts of tomatos using a pressure cooker, this is much faster ( and safer ) than using the old method of open pot boiling for 45 minutes. Only need 8 minutes at 5 pounds pressure in the cooker.

Time to hit the sack, see you guys at breakfast..

Plenty warm and humid here tonight, thanks to what rain we got, could sure use a lot more

As far as the kids n grandkids, alls doing good, other than Leroy. We're having trouble getting him to go to school, once he's there, it's fine. Sadly he doesn't deal well with change and he's shy to boot. He's also never really been around anyone but family till he started playing baseball. Hopfully it'll  work out before long or we don't know what to do

Also we're still on granddaughter watch, maybe the stork will show this weekend.  And we found out this evening the oldest granddaughter was nominated for home coming queen. Beth's happy bout the queen part, but not to happy bout having to wear a fancy dress [17 year old tomboy]

JERRY, there is some good rail fan spots over there [ the station's still the best], but the overpass isn't one of them, no sidewalk and the traffic runs bout 2' from the railing. I'll get in one of these days for the box [or send Deb by]. Hope Sally got along ok today.

DUKE, thanks for all the racing pics. Looks like ya'll had a good time up there.

NSCALER, to bad bout the girl friend, but there's more good and bad times ahead of you. The good will most always win out in memories. Remember, it could always be worse you could have hemorrhoids too and be out of prepation H.

ED good to hear the orange grove came through with almost minor damage. Guess that means plenty of fresh squished before long.

Some more from Effingham, the first one is part of the Effingham RR wye inter-change with CSX and MOW storage. 2'nd one is part of their main.

These 2 are of their engine, not the best shots, but I'd really been trespassing to do any better [kinda pushed it for what I got].

Thanks for all the congrads on the photo of the week just another lucky, by accident shot is all. It has felt good to get out chasing some trains, hadn't got to much of it this summer and Mother's even enjoyed it too.

Need to get back to the game, RYAN, I've got high hope for the Saints tonight, I don't care for the baby horses.

Hope ya'll has a good night.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Okay, so we finally made it out to the orange grove today.  I was pleased to see that it's in pretty good shape, other than the weeds being too high.  We did lose some branches (w/ fruit) from the winds that came from Hurricane Dean, but we didn't have as much fruit shaken off the trees as I had expected.  I salvaged the fruit off the broken limbs.  It's not ripe and it's still too acidy for regular juice (think "sour orange" candy), but cut with sparkling water and with just a bit of sugar added it makes a fine orangeade.

Garry - my condolences on the death of your sister-in-law, Janet.

Rob:  Honestly, I have little respect for most of the people I have met in North Georgia.
Talking of North Georgia just reminded me that way back in the days of the original Coffee Shop, we had two real good model railroaders (and real friendly guys) who lived up there.  Some of our older posters here will remember Bill Mathewson and Tom Watkins.  Unfortunately, both dropped out of sight and haven't posted on the forums in a long time.

Not much more to report.

Hasta mañana
