Good evening to all, well the bags are packed, ready to go at 4am, I checked the satellites and there is snow in them thar hills of Banff. And, there is snow forecasted during the train ride from Banff to Kamloops, so the photos could be very "interesting". This will be a first for me taking Digital photos from the train in snow at elevations averaging 7500', so I hope I don't screw them up, you get one chance at some things in this life, this is more than likely one of them.
I will be OOA from the Diner until October 11th, so I hope that everyone behaves.
COLBY: Yes , the Patriots are 4-0, but after last nights win, and scoring over 20 points once again for the 4th time, did you know that it broke a record set way back in 1920?? Opening four straight wins and scoring more than 20 points in each game. Now that is a long time record.
MARK: Listen Mark, you must know by now how much Jim like to stir the pot in the Diner.....we all know how you hate Chocolate Cream pie, and Apple Pie with ice cream on top, or Blueberry pie, Custard pie, Key Lime pie, Pumpkin pie, Squash pie, Strawberry Rhubarb pie.

Rob, my computer and internet have issues. Could you link me to those pictures, because they're not working. I don't mind full dome or dome dome, as long as it's HO scale, and looks and performs nice, I'm happy. Anyways, what's the fun of having a major passenger train and no dome car?
I wonder when my big boy comes... Do you think the club would let me run a 300 car train, pulled by my challenger and big boy? The challenger can pull 130-140 cars, the blueline big boy has been rumored to pull over 180. Man, I can't wait! (Although, I doubt theres enough room on the layout for 300 cars... Maybe if all the modules were used...)

***Colby, although a novel idea, I will 2nd what Jeffrey said about growing it indoors. It will have potential for negative health issues over time. Take it from one who HAS those health issues, at least in part from mold exposure. If the layout is in a garage, then go for it and keep a close eye for any growth other than moss. Still, probably not worth the risk.

Hey Guys.
The Moss is comming along nicely. Patriots are 4-0 and I've reconfigured my main line to allow for a better yard setup. Speaking of which, I finally have a reason to do switching on my layout. I took my 2 freight stations (one plastic, one paper) put them side-by-side to have a long loading dock. I can now switch out my only 2 boxcars and have a reason to do so.
Oh and I also have a passenger track for my NYC streamlined coach and diner/coach and baggage car, while having enough room to store the flatcar and a boxcar.

Well not much on the go as I headed out to sea on Friday and got the call from the Chief Engineer 3am Sunday Morning that we had to head home as the packing let go in one of the shafts. So after a 30 hr steam we made it home.
Dick: I'm hoping they cfan get the old girl running again so I can go out and play. And the weather right now is to die for! No forseeable Hurricanes at present! Darn, Darn, Darn!!!

Besides that, so far this week is okay. We tied our soccer game, but it was due to an own-goal that was made by one of the members of the team most people already hate. I don't think he's ever going to get respect back, he knocked us from 1st in the division to 3rd. We play the guys in 1st this saturday... Let's hope it turns out okay.
Still planning my UP passenger train. Right after I get my big boy ordered, I can start saving for the passenger cars. Luckily, over half the ones I want are on sale. (That's mainly why I picked them...) Too bad they don't make a UP dome car. The train just won't be as cool without one.
Sue: Horizontal rain? Our rain is vertical... But right now, we got some wind storms coming through... Something tells me it's another year of snow days coming in winter. Oh and also, are you going to go to the Puyallup train show this year? I'll probably go. Another event that I want to go to is the 3rd ORHF winter special running of 4449 and 700. It's only rumors for now, but they've done it for the past two years...

Well, see, it's like this........I love school........and somethings got to give.......so.............
Really it's just a time management type of thing. The "honey do" list will be winding down with the weather turning (I love having a new house with no winter maintinance projects!), and I've already been making noise about a lack of hobby room time, so hopefully, those things combined will net me some quality layout time in the near future. Hopefully..........

PC, we're having about the same kind of weather here, though they're playing with us, and saying some possibility (yeah, right) of a sprinkle here or there in the next day or two (but not very high percentage of that happening). Hope the dentist's trip for you today goes well (don't ya just love having your teeth cleaned? Not!)

Today: mostly sunny & unseasonably warm - high: 82
Tonight: partly cloudy, scattered showers possible overnight - low: 64
And here's the kicker.......Mid to high 80's for the rest of the week! It's like late August around here! To top that off, we're almost 9" below our normal rainfall since May! I guess you can expect higher prices on anything that uses corn or soy beans this year as the crops are bound to be a bit small. I know the corn and beans around here turned brown a long time ago, and that usually doesn't happen until just before the harvest. Lots of farmers have begun harvesting early already for fear of losing all of their crop. Better a small crop then none at all!
Gotta go to the dentist this afternoon. Not looking forward to that!
Better get moving to work right now though.

We had a bad truck-train accident last night near Dexter, MO (south of here). A driver hauling cotton got his truck stalled on a rail crossing, and the UP train hit it head-on. Really bad accident, and they said there was a clear view both ways at that crossing, so it was needless. Sad.

Thanks for reminding me, Paul. Tonight we had four designs that our main design guy (Kevin) had drawn up, and after all was said and done, we decided to drastically re-do the layout design, so that we would get a longer continuous run (about 200 feet), where we can follow our trains around without having to stop and without any duckunders or hidden track. We'll still be able to use all the benchwork, and we talked about soaking the turnouts in water to get the glue and ballast off of them (since the turnouts would be the most expensive to replace - Peco's). We talked about having some of the club members working on the new benchwork (we already had about 6-10' of benchwork that was ready to assemble, just needed to fasten the legs to it) while others strip off scenery and other stuff from the finished (or mostly) sections of the old layout. It'll take a while, but we're not looking at much in elevation changes (the design will be pretty much a flat table with scenery added on). We had a slight grade on the old layout and some said for that, we really needed helpers. Kevin's going to draw up more detailed plans, figuring on using the existing industry structures that we have - (actually, on the old layout we hadn't used all the structures we had.

I devised a way to get rid of the heat developed by the motor and decoder in my Athearn GP50. I took the dynamic brake housing off the shell and used my Dremel tool to open up the top of the shell. I then cut the grills out of the sides of the dynamic brake housing. Now the top of the shell doesn't heat up after the loco has been running for a while.
