Got word a bit ago our neighbor lady passed away this morning. We know their daughter from Arz made it in yesterday, don't know if their daughter from Florida did or not yet. I don't know what Jim will do now, he has never had to take care of himself for very long. We're sure gonna miss her, even our kids thought of her as family.

Kudos Scott. Attitude is everything and it sounds like you've got a good grip of things!
Rob: I've had excellent results with Broadway and Bachmann. Though I found picking up the phone and talking to a real live human being by far the best way to get results. It's the best way to go about it.You might have to wait 4-6 weeks for the parts but time flys. Oh and take care of the ear those infections or sinus problems, they can be real nasty and persistant if not dealt with.
Well not much on the go, though the ship is fixed and we're back at it off the Continental Shelf.

Rob, The scenery is started in the corner and back wall. Once that is finished, we can complete the track to the logging area. Most of the summer, we have just operated the trains. It is all you can do to keep the track clean.
Jim, What is your ebay find? I hate errand days, but if you are going to check out a new toy, that is different.
Jerry, What passenger cars did you miss out on?
My goal for today is to paint some RR ties. I may not get to it until this evening. Larry just took off for LA, so Pearl will be my only help today.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Still no luck finding the missing parts, except I believe I found a tiny bottom plate for one of the coupler units...not a very good sign actually. Shot an e-mail off to Bachmann to inquire how to get replacement parts. Also found the schematic for the model online with parts numbers. IF it costs much at all, it is not going to be worth bothering with. Besides, I would rather save funds to put towards Kato, Atlas and Athearn locos...uh....I mean "more track". Still, bugs the heck out of me.
Bad insomnia last night. Woke up dizzy again from either inner ear or molars (who knows ). Did the required critter rounds and am going to kick back in a corner booth and drink my coffee.

I agree with Jim, the first thing to do is call the manufacturer's service or parts department and see if they have parts available. By the way, check the box the locomotive came in to see if it contains an exploded view drawing showing parts, may show part numbers.
Even if they don't, couplers are easy to fix, as you can buy replacement ones from M-T. Even plows are fairly easy as there are a few small manufacturers that make these kinds of detail parts for locomotive detailing.

Rob - as was said, the parts will likely turn up just after you've bought another and installed the parts. Can you contact the manufacturer and see if they can sell you just the parts you need? Might be worth a try (and less headache).
Few errands to run this morning (in addition to the usual Sat. a.m. laundry run). Probably will get by both LHS's, need to get the car's oil and lube done, check the PO box for an eBay win or two that should hopefully be here, get the rent and storage fees paid, and then get groceries in the afternoon. [whew!]

Yesterday we turned on the AC, first time I ever done that in Oct, and it's going to be another hot one here, 90, if we get there, it'll be another record day for this year, and bout the same forecast for tomorrow.
Been busy with kids n chores this week. Neighbor lady [Fern] is the hospital and not doing good. She went in for heart blockage Wed. and has went down hill ever sense. Her kidneys have quit, so she's on dialysis and her heart has stopped a couple times and they've been able to get her going again.
JERRY, hope Sally's doing better now. Good luck with the cable company, it seems to a never-ending battle in town. The boys have had problems with them too.
JR,, think I heard your going to Topeka Kansas next week. If your coming on I-70, you'll be bout a mile or so from me n Jerry when ya get to exit 136 in IL.

Rob - wouldn't feel too bad losing parts after a couple of months. I regularly lose stuff I've just put down, especially on the bench. No doubt they'll turn up the day after you've fitted something else.

Oh No...remember the GE DASH 8-40CW that I primed for painting? Well, I lost not only the couplers, but also the plows (cow catcher...whatever they are called?). I searched everywhere. That's what I get for starting a project a couple months or more ago without having a permanent, designated work area to keep ALL the parts in. Well, I could blame the Inlaw thing that came up, but that would be a lame excuse for my own carelessness. Lesson learned, that's for sure. Do I now sell a brand new loco missing those parts (for peanuts) OR try finding a non-running unit I can take those lost parts from to put this one back together??? DANG!

Evening Gang: We went out to John's place to pick up the swather and rake. Everything had a flat tire. We didn't take the diesel. It has a noise in the front of the engine that I didn't like. I'll have to take it in Monday. It sounds like a bearing in the alternater maybe going out. Any way we had the right tire on the swather go flat on the way back so I had to go back to town and get a plug kit and an air tank. The rest of the trip was without incident.

I've been working on getting my HO GP50 ready for my fictional road, the Midland Gulf Railway (MGRy).
First was the preparation. I removed all window glass, lenses and number boards.
The next step was to lay the cab and body out for painting.
After two light coats, I allowed it to dry thoroughly.
While the paint was drying, I was printing the decals out on airmail paper.
The decals are cut out and set aside.
The roadname decals are applied first.
Followed by the cab numbers and number boards.
The body and cab are finally reunited with the chassis.
That's it for now.

I went to the docs office this morning for my monthly physical. The results would probably be alarming to someone in really good health but are normal for me.
Since getting back home I've been listening to the news on NPR and changing out some Atlas couplers (those things drive me crazy) with Kadee #5's. I have one coupler to service, a Kadee with a loose pin. Some Super Glue gel will take care of that.
4 hours done at work, 9 more to go! At least the money goes to a nice cause (trains!) and it's not too tough.
Gotta go get some pictures of the WSORs SD20s before they're gone this weekend. That should take up part of the day on Saturday. Sundy is reserved for painting the B40-8 for CNW this weekend (hopefully). We'll see how things go. I may have an AC6000CW done and an SD80MAC as well. Back to the grind...

Afternoon all!
Had to take my son to the MDA doctors this morning, so that took like forever! More PT and more leg braces, so what else is new. At least it is all helping slow the desease down I guess. Sometimes it's just hard knowing that out of a family of 4, I'm the only one that won't suffer this debilitating condition. I'd trade places with them if I could in a heartbeat.
Finally made it in to work though. Came in, got a few things done, and now I'm chillin' a little.
Hot out there today for this time of year. We are in store for a record warm weekend across central Indiana as highs will approach 90 degrees Saturday and Sunday. The record high for today is 87(1922), Saturday's record is 88(1946) and the record for Sunday is 87(1916). If we hit 90 degrees, this will also mark a record for the latest 90 degree day ever this late in the year. There will be a chance of a few spotty showers later today.

***Garry, since I STILL have no idea where my layout will end up, I'll start with a "corner table" where I can add tracks running out from it while still having at least a couple loops (of sorts) to "run trains on" for the short term. Perhaps a 4' x 4' table with part of one corner cut off). Eventually the larger layout will end up in that space under the porch (42' x 8.5' & needs a floor first) OR in a room in the old cabin next door (needs roof work & new sheetrock from water & mold damage upastairs). Either option will cost $$$$, so this corner table will be "it" for awhile. I'm at a point where all the boxes of model trains & train stuff need a place to live and play.
***Scott, that's a funny & appropriate sketch there. Sounds like you are really getting the hang of things. Must be cool to experience the power of a REAL locomotive under your control. Keep up the great work! (psst: as much as I like those horses, my SD90Mac will remain in UP colors)

Well, I've been out on the railroad working for four days now. I've worked the Shifter twice building the southbound local, lining up the northbound manifest, and shifting the empty truck train. I worked the Truck Train on Wednesday, which is the easiest job at the terminal - basically just doubling up tracks, coupling the cuts, and shifting the locos to the other end of the string.
Yesterday and today I'm working in the Dundulk terminal. If anyone has ever been to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, you can see the Baltimore port across the bay where they load containers onto ships and all. Well, I'm working in the port! We were shifting auto carriers around to be loaded with brand new Porsches that came from Europe. I ain't never seen so many new cars before. We also grabbed a string of flats to take back to the yard, which I got to put together myself. This is fun stuff!
And I gotta tell ya something...Them new SD70M-2 cabs are COMFY!

We took Janet's cat to the Humane Society. He's such a friendly, easy-going cat that we really hated to get rid of him. Well, guess what, "Tiger" charmed his way to adoption already. He was placed in only an hour to a very good home.
Yes, Mark, that's the one I saw. Photos are very poor. I see now it's 7 cars instead of 6 cars. Have fun deciding. In either case, you should be prepared to upgrade them. The easiest and quickest coupler conversion is the McHenry couplers designed to fit ine the trucks as do the original horn hooks. However, I have used those coplers and they will jigger as the train moves down the track causing cars to uncouple. I prefer body-mounted long-shank kadees which are work wel on my 30" minimum curves.
Rob... have fun designing layouts. I prefer around-the-wall, linear design. My layout design is point to point. Each end has a terminal and a hidden reverse loop. No duck unders. 30" minimum mainline curves. Double track mainline. Industries in each town. Benchwork is modified domino construction to enable moving layout if necessary. (I've ripped apart too many prior layouts) Layout room has lots of corners While designing, I fit the minimum curves in each corner and connected with tangents. Curves have wider radii near tangents.

They have some really helpful people over there who do some good work helping to analyze plans. It's specifically oriented to layout design. It makes a good complement to the Layout Building Forum here which has a lot of its messages related with construction techniques.
Note that you can read the forum threads as a visitor, but to post requires registration (which is painless).
