in a Union Pacific mug, please & thank you!

Have layout designs tumbling around in my head this morning, but to much work to do at present. I'll start putting ideas down on paper tonight when I'm relaxing. There are certain industries & scenes I know are a must, so will start with those. Will also browse the Layout Building forum for more ideas on overall track design.

Have a great morning all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Except my problem occurred at home and at work, and at home I used both Safari and Firefox, and kept getting the timeouts (only) for trying to go to Google pages, using Google searches (even on other webpages, where the page loaded fine, but their search engine used Google, it would time out when I tried a search). And searches (using others' search engines) didn't turn up any news about it.

Oh, this morning, the problem is gone. I'm wondering what the heck the problem's cause was... Very puzzling!

The cheapest way to make the back doors lockable is to replace them completely. At about $200 a side, that's not happening real soonShock [:O]. Any valuables that need to be secured go in the trunk, which is quite large, well insulated and can only be accessed with a key. I found out the hard way that a locked door and rolled up window isn't going to stop someone who has made up their mind that they want something you have. On the other hand, breaking into a locked trunk can attract a lot of unwanted attention and can take quite a while to accomplish. Even fire fighters have a lot of trouble getting them open, and they have the tools for it!

Good morning.

Evenin', Chloe - I'd like some beef stroganoff and a cup of your finest java, please. Thank you. Dinner [dinner]

Calm evening tonight, but today was hectic at w**k. Would've sworn it was a full moon - we had my co-worker David (who usually helps me cover crisis) out at the doctor's (he's been sick couple of days earlier this week). I hospitalized 3 clients (well, one went through a local ER, and one went after keeping her afternoon Dr.'s appointment), and Dana hospitalized another (cancelled the rest of her morning's sessions to get things done), plus a lot of calls and couple of walk-ins (and our clinical director was out for the day). When I talked with the psych. unit about one client, they said their day had been hectic there, also. So that means the evening should be calm, 'cause we got things taken care of during the day, right? Wink [;)]

Mark, I hope you get those passenger cars - they look nice! Thumbs Up [tup] Sent you PM with a tip on that.

Rob, looks like you have a good start on some motive power there! Thumbs Up [tup] Yep, you probably should draw up some plans for a module (or two)... Got your layout design software? Wink [;)]

Paul, I just used pushpins to hold mine down when I was gluing it. Not as easy for taking it up, but I'd be concerned that a staple would create a short under a turnout. But whatever works for you...

Hello everybody.....

Mark, I saw another lsiting that had six cars instead of three. That's a good description in the listing you linked.  The three cars sound like they are in good condition. They are probably earlier ones because they have no interiors.  Early production cars had deep wheel flanges, but work on code 100 track. Couplers are horn hooks connected to trucks. Cars are too light weight. All of those problems are fixable, and it can be fun doing the work. I run upgraded Rivarossi cars with Walthers and other brands.

Well, everybody. Tomorrow morning Janet's cat goes to Humane Society. Hope they find a good home for him.

Happy Model Railroading

Evening Gang: Not much since this afternoon.

Mark those cars look pretty good. Good luck on the bidding.

Tomorrow we start hauling the bailing equipment back from John's place. That will be a hot job since the diesel doesn't have an airconditioner.

Well I guess I'd better get to bed.

My new Kato beast has arrived and man does it run smooooooth. It's one thing to read about how well the newer Kato, Atlas, etc diesels run, it's another to finally get one of your own and try it out. Instantly "hooked on diesels" again, even though I swore it was going to be all steam ahead...UH OH! Wife got it out of the mailbox, so had to open it infront of her. All she said was, "That's a big locomotive".LOL Here it is infront of the computer screen. Note at the far left & front is the new Bachman 2-8-0 I got not long ago. That one will require some break in time, the Kato runs smooth as silk right out of the box. Very Pleased! I have GOT to start a layout next year, even if only a small module from which to build on.

Wife & I banded all the baby billy goats today. Looks like a Civil War battle field out there...wah wah wah. Glad I'm not one of them. Laugh [(-D]

Hope everyone is doing well tonight. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Afternoon All: I just got back from my friends 7.5 track. I took the repaired truck over and put it under the gondola. Then I went and mowed the grass along some of the yard tracks. Boy the grass burs are going wild.

Garry I'm happy to hear that someone else uses staples to put down cork roadbed. I've put down and taken up some of mine 4 times.

Ed: Nap hu, good for you. I'd take on now but Mary Ann is using the bed for her desk. When I nap I really nap.

I'll be back tonight. Prayers for Sallie.

I can't lock it. Only the front doors lock. There are no locks on the back doors on the inside and no way to lock them from the outside. The back doors can't be opened from the inside either. The car was originally used for prisoner transport for extriditions. Go figure. The electric locks work only for the front doors and have no effect whatsoever on the back ones.

Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Didn't get around to posting last night.  We went out to the orange grove yesterday for regular routine maintenance.  After getting home I was too pooped to much other than watch the Red Sox vs the Angels on tv.

The crop is looking good.  The mandarin oranges are really starting to get some color (other than green) on them and I suspect we're only a couple of weeks away from starting to pick them.  As I suspected, we lost a few limbs full of fruit from the recent winds.  Typical, we have some of this each year, and not a huge problem.  We trim off the broken branches and harvest the fruit, even though it's not fully ripe.  They still have lots of juice, although it's a bit on the acidity side, and it serves well to make orangeade.  Also picked some (Key) limes.

I'm glad to see that it's still warm up there around Jerry and Phil.  I was starting to get jealous of all you guys (and girls) up north with fall temperatures.  Wink [;)]

Jeff - bummer about your placard.  When you say they stole it off your mirror, is that the inside mirror?  Do you mean you left the car unlocked?  If so, you're lucky that's all they stole.

CG Jim:  ... your mornings must be getting darker than ours are here - at 7 a.m., we have a fair amount of light...
Being farther south than you guys, we get a bit less variation between summer and winter daylight hours.  At 07:00 here it was quite clear, although sunrise itself was at about 07:20.  In fact, we just passed the day when we have exactly 12 hours between sunrise and sunset.  I think today we're at about 11 hrs and 50 minutes (+/-)

Well, with the morning nap out of the way Zzz [zzz]   it's time to go run some errands.  Catch you later.

Mark ...... i just looked in ebay ...... There is a listing of 7 Rivarossi Union Pacific passenger cars. The entire lot currently has a bid of only $35.00. If interested go to ebay HO trains category and then to AHM/ Rivarossi .  Search on Dome,Coach, Observation.  Looks like two dome cars are in the group. You could buy the set; resell cars you do not want; use proceeds from selling extra cars to buy items needed to upgrade dome cars. Upgrade usually includes adding weight, replacing trucks, and replacing couplers. The couplers (long shank) need to go on the car body instead of on the trucks. Early Rivarossi cars had no interiors, and you may need to get interiors.

Colby.. I normally install cork roadbed on a wood surface to keep level. Also, staples instead of glue allow easy removal of cork

Still nobody wants the cat.

Morning.

Just decided to check in before I get ready for school.

Jim: I'm trying to keep it somewhat the same, but I'm mixing in a few heavyweights, becuase there isn't a pullman streamlined or standard observation.

GMTRacing: It seems like that. Hopefully walthers might come out with the UP City of Something as there next passenger train. Probably doubtful, though.

Garry: I guess I'll go look for a picture of one, and see what I think. I'll wait and see, Flashwave said something about his LHS having Walthers UP domes.

Gotta go,

Good morning...

Regarding UP dome cars, the Rovarossi line has been around for many years and still looks more like a UP dome car than any other. Rivarossi passenger cars can be upgraded to operate as good as any cars, and I think they would look just fine with Walthers cars.

I'll  have my coffee and I'm off.

Mornin' everyone!

I know that most of you just won't believe this, esspecially after all of the weather reports you've seen from me this year so far, but get this.....

We're going to have weather around here today that is unusually hot!

Today: partly sunny and warm - high: 86

Tonight: increasing clouds and muggy - low: 67

Normal highs for this time of year is low to mid 70's! I guess summer is going to stick around for a while.

Gotta do the online class thing tonight after work. I suppose it might be a good idea to actually read the books *just kidding*. So far this online class is a breeze.

Jeff, I hope you get a replacement tag soon.  I know that we keep ours in the front windows of all or our cars and I'd never even thought of someone doing a five finger discount on them.  Guess I'm just flirtin' with disaster, huh?

Good morning.  I will share one of Bill's Donuts with coffee.

I didn't even get the computer turned on yesterday, with climbing last night.    I usually drag in about 9:00; scarf down something; and head for bed.  Today is an errand day, with a trip to Seattle.  Ick.

Yes, Ryan, we got 5 inches of snow on Stevens Pass last night.  Glad to see that someone is working on RR goals.  I just have too many other projects at this time.

Jeff,  I like your weathered window frames.

I will check in later today.

Good Morning, Zoe - a cup of

and one of those twisty donuts Bill T. brought in, please.

Thanks!

Mark, I think JR and the others may be right - you may need to watch for Walthers to come out with a dome car (or they put one on sale that you could repaint and decal). I know what you mean about liking having the cars (somewhat) matching in general style, though.

JR, your mornings must be getting darker than ours are here - at 7 a.m., we have a fair amount of light (though it's been cloudy or foggy lately, so it's hard to tell when sunrise is). Good luck with finding some MRR'ing time, now that you have the workbench and nearby areas cleared away.

JP, looks like you're working the night-owl shift for a bit, huh? Zzz [zzz] Hopefully that won't mess up your getting sleep - you don't want to be falling asleep on the girlfriend when you do get a chance to see her. Wink [;)]

Jeff, how long will it take you to get your parking hang-tag replaced? Hope that person gets caught that stole it from you, and the judge nails him/her. Hang in there in the meantime. I've seen some people who will stow away the hang tag when they're at home or another place where they're not in a designated handicapped parking spot (perhaps to avoid the kind of jerk that took your tag).

Wonder when the Nov. MR will be hitting the stands locally. My subscription ran out and I'm looking for some special rate lower than the $42.95 one that's on the insert cards. Sigh [sigh]

Guess I'd better get going for now.  Prayers for Sallie and any others in need.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All,

67F and dark but still dry this morning. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' donuts please Zoe. Can't wait for "fall behind" as 7am is way too late for it to still be dark out.

Spent a couple of hours cleaning the work bench and adjoining areas last night. With so little time to spend on the layout this past summer, projects and debris really piled up. This winter may not be much better as we are going to be looking to move the shop along with the usual winter rebuilds.

Hoople - Sounds like you're stuck until Walthers cars are available. Of the other prefab cars out there, Rivarossi are pretty good and should have a dome of some sort. I was unimpressed with the Athearn passenger cars - too short and too generic at the same time. IHC can be made all right but are a bit on the cheap side. The Branchline kits are great as are the new built ups, but they don't offer a dome and the kits are probably more work than you want to tackle.

Jerry - We hope Sallies feeling better today and both of you are in our prayers.
