Good news and bad news...

Bad news: I fear I may have a cracked rib. It sears with pain at almost any movement, whhich means whatever I want to do with my trains, I can't.

Good news: Because movement is painful, I can't go to school today.

I just hope it ends soon...

cracked rib is no laughing matter. I've had two myself, at the same time. Talk about hoping for a sneeze NOT to come on.

Afternoon folks-just a quick bowl of chicken noodle soup & I'm off to work in a few.

Jeff-glad you made it thru the storm ok-I noticed yesterday your area was under a tornado watch (as quite a few others)

Some showers moved thru earlier & our cable was out for a bit for some reason, but all is good now (& I did a bit of train work in the meantime) We might get t-storms late, but hopefully not severe.

Blah-gotta go!

 refill, please & thanks!

***Sue, you're right about the critters enjoying the rain. Ducks & geese were quacking/honking for joy, even though their pond is presently a bunch of blue tubs. Mini horses sometime seem to enjoy playing in the rain. Big horses care less unless it is coming down hard, then they run into their sheds. Exceptions to enjoying the rain are the pygmy goats & miniature Zebu cows, who always run for cover. Hoping for more of the wet stuff soon.

***CPRail, If it is a cracked rib, sure hope it heals fast for you. Never had one but they do sound rough. Does breathing hurt?

***Jerry, good luck with the GP30. Also with the camera/computer stuff.

I make some of my best buys in the first one to two months after Christmas, when the LHS is trying to clear the stock.

You probably missed it. Walthers had a HUGE sale online last few weeks. I'd say late Sept. Pre Christmas rush. Since *most* Hobby stores don't naccecarily apply to seasonal stock changes, there isn't a good pre/post Christmas sale.

Go to train show on last day. Some places will do sales, as they don't wanna have to haul it back.

to PC:

1)There's a Tirnado watch out for us.

2)Is you going to the Show Saturday?

CP:

Feel free. I'll getcha a padded chair so you don;t get shaken to hard. Could use a spotter anyway, as I wouldn't know If i hit em or not.

Gotta admit I'm more partial to Cab Forwards myself though.

Depends, Rob - if you want Woodland Scenics scenery stuff/figures, Model Power accessories, or WS's Modurail modular sections, check your local Hobby Lobby - they usually run a sale on MRR'ing stuff right after Christmas. Of course, every couple of weeks, their website:

www.hobbylobby.com

has a printable coupon - that gives you 40 percent off any one item(!), and this year they've been running those every other weekend pretty consistently.

Otherwise, if your LHS does their inventory Jan. 1st (which a lot of businesses do for local tax reports), you might catch a sale between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Anyone else can chime in here... Wink [;)] Hope that helps some.

 Cederstrand wrote:

Careful what you wish for - you might get some of the nasty thunderstorms/high winds/tornadoes that have been around our area (but luckily for us, not in the Cape G. area).

Good evening all. If I over looked mentioning anyone please forgive me(Tongue [:P]).

I heard today that the new Star Trek movie will be coming out in December of 2008 for those of you that are interested. As far as I can tell, it will begin with Spock looking back to the early days when he, Kirk, Bones and the rest of the original crew first met.

I've got a new pet here in a jar on my desk. It's a Black Widow spider I found living on the curtain in the guest room. It had to have come in when it was real small because there's screen covering all of the vents on the outside and the window is well sealed... Anyways, she's made herself at home and I've been feeding her a bug or two every couple of days.

I just came in from mowing my pasture and doing yard work. I think I'll eat and shower, then head out to the old train room for a couple of hours. I've got a big box of parts and so forth a friend of mine gave me to sort through and put in individual containers.

I finally broke down and bought a Mintrix wheel cleaner. Not sure how well it works yet but am about to find out. It's the type you sit on the tracks with the power on then sit the wheels of you loco on the brushes and they're cleaned as they turn.

Take care.

Evening Gang: Kind of slow here tonight. I got another couple hundred feet of my RR right of way burned today. I also went over to my friends track and ran my diesel for one trip. It ran well but is still having problems cutting out when I go to idel. I'm going to clean the old gas out of the tank and refill with good clean fuel. That is of course if I can get good clean gas in this day and age. I'll add Stabil and some Berryman B-12 to this tank and run it through the carb. Hopefully that will clean out the water and any other gunk.

JR: Thanks for the pictures. That is a good looking depot. I'm happy that it is being taken care of. The 4-6-4 does need some TLC. I guess it is in the process of getting it. Good Luck at Watkins Glen.

Fergie: I see where a barge was lost of the Newfoundland coast. Are they getting you and the Hudson involved? from the photos that I've seen there isn't much left of it.

Rob: Good to hear that you are getting some rain.

Well I think that I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Beautiful, but very warm and humid.  Got up to 35º (95º) around the time we headed out to the orange grove.  Hot, humid, and hardly a breath of air.  I'll tell you guys, those were a few tough hours of work.  I'm glad you all appreciate the OJ.  I'm wiped.

Crop continues to come along fine.  We brought back a few papayas, a couple of grapefruit, lots of chile pequin, and a bunch of oranges that we recovered from broken branches.

Jerry:  I got good news Sallie is going to get to come home this evening and stay till friday morning I can hardly wait...She did just great yesterday she got in and out of the van with no problem....
Excellent news.  Hope the visit works out and that she's home permanently soon.

Well I got my Camera yesterday at Wally World I just kinda shut my eyes and splurged I got a Canon Power Shot 460... My brother-in-law is gonna come over set it up and show me how to use it.
Should be a good one.  It's nice that you have someone to walk you through the setup and basic use of the camera.

By the way, that photo of your layout that you sent got me sufficiently energized that I finally got out my weathering powders and finished up that boxcar that I had painted and decaled last weekend.  Turned out fine (by my low standards).  I really like those Bragdon Weathering Powders.  They probably won't work for all weathering needs, but they are real easy to use and give me the results I am looking for.

Ryan:  Oh the swing gate! Yes that has already been built back in March of this year.
Okay, so I wasn't paying attention.  Blindfold [X-)]  Or maybe that was back during my sabbatical away from the forum.

Paul - belated congrats to you and Mary Ann on your anniversary.  That's a long time.  We won't be making it up as far as DFW this trip, but there's an outside chance that we could swing up that way on our trip at the end of April next year.  We'll see.

That's about it for tonight.  Going to concentrate on the Red Sox game.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Evening folks-a grilled pepperjack cheese sandwich & Pepsi please.

Keeping an eye on the weather here & an eye on the Indians game (4-1 Boston-middle of the 7th-c'mon TRIBE!)

Weather's quiet here for now but tornado watches just to the southwest of us have recently been issued. Hopefully by the time it gets here the storm part of it will have dissapated & we just get rain (we need it here-we've only cut the grass once since we moved in here last month (hmm-maybe that's not a bad thing) But currently listening to WSM Nashville online, & they just said there was some damage around Hopkinsville Ky, about an hr or so ago-hopefully everyone's ok there.

Phillip-Those are great-I want to say those are George Carlin's-I've used the "Up Over" phrase to my friends in Australia-they get a kick out of it! (he comes up with some good ones-"You can't arrest me ossifer-I'm "legally" drunk."

Tracklayer-I bet that BW spider is beautiful-hard to believe the male is smaller & looks completely different (not to mention non-poisonous) But glad it's in a jar! We have a slight problem with large (but harmless) house spiders making their presence known around here-going to have to do something about that before I do any layout work in the basement. (I always give the weathering workbench a quick scan before I sit down & start reaching for stuff). One was napping after dark a week or so ago on our address # on the front of the house, which is 1408-should have gotten a pic-those that follow new movies will get it-yikes!

Hopefully everything's well & good with all-tomorrow's my early day at work-Nite!

One last, please & thanks!

***Ed, how about bringing some of those papayas into the Diner? I love those things...Dinner [dinner]

***Mitch, I checked out your gallery. WOW, that is some seriously NICE weathering you do. How long does it take you to do a typical box car?

For those in the path of severe weather, stay safe. Better yet, send them all my way...as long as it rains and doesn't hurt any of our animals. BTW, our valley is part of the most tornadic zone in GA. Haven't seen any severe weather in a long time. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Yeah, that storm is pretty scarry but the Southeast really needs a lot of rain; we all know that. But at what cost? Gotta take some bad with the good, right?

Nobody wants tornadoes, hail and lightning but if enough rain falls in the process it would probably be worth it since it doesn't look like any tropical storms will be making their usual trip through the interior Southeast. A dip in the jet stream could push the storm toward the East, closer to Atlanta, but no sign of that happening. For now most of the rain associated with this storm is falling in the Mississippi River Valley.

Can I get some liver and onions over here and a V8?

Morning, all!

On my first cup of coffee, and it's good, as usual.  Today is Friday and my office closes Friday afternoons, so it will be a short day.  Brief court hearing this morning then back to the office to return phone calls.  No complaints, it would not be good if the phone did not ring.

Does anyone know anything about the train show in Houston on Nov. 3rd?  I thought it was a regular train show but then one of the gang thought it was mainly tinplate and kiddie stuff.  I guess I'll have to check out its web site.

Well,m I hope that everyone has a great weekend!  Happy trains.

Morning, Zoe! I'll just have a cup of the joe and one of Bill T.'s chocolate donuts, please.

Thanks!

Mike, hope your trip goes well and quickly. Regular checkup, or something new?

I'm hoping to get one of my RDA kits put together this weekend. The singles group is supposed to go on Saturday for a corn maze outing/dinner thing. Glad the weather appears to be moved out of here. Smile [:)]

Got to get moving and catch up the paperwCensored [censored]k. See everyone later.

Blessings and Prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
