Good afternoon!

Chloe, hmm, just some onion rings and a coke for now.

Well, my passenger cars came today. They are pretty nicely detailed, and the paint is great. The duplex sleeper is actually modeled after a real car, donated by Southern Pacific to Union Pacific for the Portland Rose (Or the City of Portland, I can't remember right now). They're all Armour Yellow with a light grey roof and bottom, except the dome lounge has a darker color. They perform higher than I expected, although I can see the coupler's extra reach bar under the frame of the dome which is not streamlined. The observation car wobbles a bit, nothing weight can't fix. My plan for the cars upgrades looks like this:

Get Kadee #58 couplers and coupler boxes mounted on each car.

Get Intermountain or Proto 2000 wheelsets on each.

Add however much weight is needed.

Now for the extras I might do later:

Red LED marker lights on the observation car

Interiors

Working Diaphragms

(Sorry, for some reason my computer skips a line when I push enter, instead of just going below the first line.)

Well, that's it for me.

Later.

Mark

Grilled Salmon with veggies & rice, please and thank you. Oh, and plenty of coffee before & after dinner.

***Ryan, all finished with the barn gutters. Decided to run 3 down spouts instead of 2, to catch every last drop with less spill-over. Tomorrow I'll pick up the extra end caps and tubing to run all 3 into the tank. Set the tank on a raised wood structure (tossed together out of scrap wood) to keep any mice from setting up camp underneath it. Should be just ewnough room for the barn cats to patrol under it.

Still have to tackle the house gutters, which will go very quick...once I figure out how to reach the edge of the roof. Might buy a ladder stabalizer tomorrow and see if that will allow room for the gutter between edge of tin roof and ladder itself. Hope that made sense!?!

***Mark, sounds like a good plan there for your new cars. One day I would like to do the same thing to my UP passenger cars. Post photos of them if/when you can, before and after shots would be great.

IT arrived today. The ugly little red 4-wheel juice-jack arrived and when set on the tracks it came right to life. Has enough weight to it already to be a reasonable runner. (probably not through switches though) So, for under $10 I have another little project loco to toy with. Speaking of "toys", that is almost what it looks like next to a new state of the art Kato, Atlas, etc loco. Still fun though.

Evening Gang:

Ryan: The web site is avwrr.org. The name of the railroad is the Annetta Valley Western. we have 2 major meets each year. One in the spring and one in the fall. We also have run days every now and then when the weather is co-operating.

Not much going on today. We had rain last night, about 1.25 inches. Sorry Rob. There was a bunch of lightning and wind also. There was a large pecan tree that got blown over on our neighbors place also lots of limbs and branches down. We're supposed to get more rain Thursday and Friday so no cutting hay. Our son in law is supposed to be coming down this week end for an air show. He's in the Air Force and works on V-22s. They are bring one to the show. I hopw that he will be able to stay with us for a day or so.

Well it's bed time.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  No rain, so we're starting to dry out after all we've had over the past few weeks.  But with those clear skies the sun beat down pretty good, and temps climbed up to around 35º C, or about 95º F.  Just a bit toasty for mid-October, but pretty common here.

I'm a little late checking in tonight.  It took me a while to clear the tears out of my eyes so that I could see the keyboard clearly.  Sad [:(]  The Red Sox dropped another one to the Indians, so we're now down 1-2 in the series.  Oh well, there's still time to come back.  Of course it would help if we could win tomorrow and stop the bleeding.  Wink [;)]  I had a bad feeling from the second inning on.  We had bases loaded and no outs and couldn't push even one run across.  Bad start to the game.  At least the NY Giants are ahead against Atlanta, so maybe I'll get some satisfaction this evening.

No great news from the orange front, and no progress (so what else is new) on the modeling side either.

der John - the layout looks like it's coming along great.  Thumbs Up [tup]  Now that you have stained the rock castings the picture is much clearer to see.  That's going to be a great scene when you get it done.  Congrats.  Way to make me feel bad!!

Derrick - thanks for posting those very interesting photos.  Your layout?  If not, who's is it?  Is there a website that shows more of it?

Ryan - Oh, and keep those pies a coming....Fran must be work-in overtime now!
She's doing great for someone who, up to about two years ago, believed that she couldn't cook pies or cakes.  My waistline tells me she needs to cut back.

Duke:  Armchairing isn't all bad but we need to get started on the layouts again.
You're preaching to the choir.  I was going to take a course in Motivation, but I couldn't get up enough interest to go........  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

That's about it from down here this evening.  Catch up with you tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Just watched Trains on RFDTV, most were films around WWII time frame. Last clip was on the making of the move "The Train" with Burt Landcaster. Why they put these shows on at 2:00am is a mystery to me.

One correction (not that anyone would have caught it), that little red juice jack did cost me over $10, it was the Docksider that ran under $10. No biggie, I just have a thing about correcting my mistakes.

Good Morning All,

The sun is just rising outside, it's a bit chilly and we'll see mid sixties today with partly cloudy skies - so say the weather guessers. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' glazed donuts please Zoe. Topeka trip turned out ok. Hope Inch and Jerry saw me wave as I flew by in the jet. Funny place Kansas - to get there you need to fly to Missouri and drive in. Thought I'd see a bunch of railroad stuff there as both the ATSF and UP have roots there, but except for a bit at the Kansas history museum and the restored UP Overland station, there isn't much. Did find a Sante Fe 4-6-4 on a grass verge of the EXPO Center, but it is in rough shape and needs lots to even stabilize it. No hobby shop trips this time either. Just as well as I need to save a bit for when my I-5 and C-Liner are ready for pickup.

The race you ask? Well yes we were out there for a week to run 20 minutes a day and some days not even that much. Lots of fiddly stuff all week with some carburetor problems, a blown up diff and the wrong gearing, but we got all that and the handling sorted out for race day qualifying 4th. It rained and we had lightening all race day morning so the schedule was moved back and the races shortened to 30 minutes from 45 to fit all 8 race groups into the afternoon. When we went out there was still standing water in several turns so we fitted hand grooved slicks (no problem there it had also gotten cold so no chance for overheating the tires and chunking tread off them). We had a great start and got to the first turn even with the pole sitter and second overall. We ran third for the first two laps but on the third lap the motor went flat and Kenny was just able to hang on to fifth at the end of the 15 laps we got. Had the motor behaved we had a legitimate shot at a win or at least the podium. For those interested, the race will air on Speed at noon on Weds Dec 19 - hardly prime time but what can you do.

Still picking up at home to get set for some layout time after this weekend (Watkins Glen).

Anyone know of a source for N scale windows and doors in quantity? The only stuff listed in Walthers is brass. I would like to find the N equivalent to Grandt Lines HO window and door assortment. Gotta go and pick up tools. Hope all is well with the rest of you and I'll try to catch up posting later this week.   CUL,Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Mornin, coffee please Zoe

Raining out [sorry ROB] suppose to end this morning and then rain again Thu and Fri. Still got warm weather for now, no complaints here on that.

Down it the back, worked to hard outside this past weekend, but most the leaves that were down are cleaned up and in the compost bins. Even got some time on the layout doing some wiring on the new control panel, track power drop, and turnouts.

Sure have enjoyed all the PICS you folk have been posting lately, thanks. Maybe I'll get out again one of these days and get some more.

ROB,, hope you put screens of some sort over the gutters to keep some of the dirt, leaves and such out. Those tanks are no fun to clean out when it gets in there n starts rotting, I know.

JR,,,, didn't notice ya up there, but glad you had a good trip anyway.

Best gets moving, kids are here and KC has the hold-me's. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, a go cup of Joe and one of those chocolate donuts Bill T. brought by. Thanks!

Many pics of excellent work (Derrick, DerJohn, Garry, Jeff, and others I've no doubt missed mentioning...)! Bow [bow] Keep 'em coming. Smile [:)]

BryanHO, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back!

Got another P2K gondola yesterday - this one's the Frisco one. Right build year (53) - on my C&O gon that I got earlier, I'll have to do some 'adjusting of the date, since it's '61 for it (and my RR's set in the mid-50's to 1959 (at the latest). Or I could just heavily weather the C&O around the build date...Wink [;)]

Best get myself going for now. See everyone later!

Blessings and prayers,

I had a bad case of not being able to hold anything down and out of both ends again, but I am better now.

I agree Mike - and I forgot to mention that many of you have posted some really great photos lately. It is nice to see all the photographic action in the Diner and the general forum lately. And everyone has been playing nice out there too it seems.

Duke - I watched some of those videos from the DVD/CD, and that Berkshire sure is a sight eh! Thanks again!

Paul - Thanks for the link to the Annetta Valley Western site, great photos and the layout seems like it makes for some exciting 7.5" ventures. Like Monique said, I got to get me one of those engines.... Big Smile [:D]

Rob - Makes perfect sense! Those gutters and down spouts going to the tank should do the job. Now what are you using to distribute the collected water and is the water for potable use or irrigation only?

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Welcome to the Diner BryansHO! Have a cup a Joe on me!

Ed - Well the Rockies made it last night, so hopes for the Red Sox are still pending! Thanks for the grove update, and keep those pies a coming.....thanks Fran!

Colby - I haven't seen a newspaper in these parts for years....oh, looks like a old Sunday edition from 10 years ago sitting over on the back booth.... Whistling [:-^]

Here is my latest incarnation of my layout plan, updated with a new loop coming out of the classification yard west end lead track and tying in with the westbound main line. Hurray, I finally figured it out!  It took many months of thought and consideration to bring this idea to fruition.

Plan facing South:

This is the plan rendered in 3D (facing North):

Morning, all!

It's Fair week here in Southeast Texas.  Beaumont hosts the largest state fair in Texas after the State Fair in Dallas.  Which reminds me, do any of you remember going to Bobye Hall's in Dallas when it was open?  It was located not that far from the Fairgrounds in Dallas.  I always enjoyed going there.  I could always find something that I "needed."

My girlfriend is now my fiance, and we're planning to marry the last week in December.  For now, we're going to move into my house as hers is not really large enough for both of us and there is no place for my model railroad.  We had planned on waiting until Spring but her daughter suggested that it was time to get married.  The good news is that her family likes me and approves, and that is huge.  I did not know that daughters hosted shotgun weddings! :)

We've an appointment with our minister this morning to begin pre marital counseling.  Mind, we both were married one time and both our spouses died.  My late wife and I were in the same Sunday School with Judy and her late husband and were part of the same group that went out for lunch after church on Sundays.  So we've known each other for about 5 years, which helps!

The layout continues to run.  We'll be open for an open house the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I suspect that we'll have a few folk if only becuae of the signaling article in October's MR.

Well, time to pour another cup of coffee, have a bite of breakfast, and go on with the day!

IT LOOKS LIKE I'M FIRST TO CONGRATULATE BAYLORMAX/STEVE.  TRERRIFC NEWS, STEVE!

Ryan, nice track plan.  I started using one of those MRR/CAD programs; decided the learning curve would be too long; and used my trusty old t-square and other drafting tools. I had a layout planned before any learning curve would have been completed. Anyhow, I like your layout.

in a UP mug, please & thank you!

***inch: Yes, I will make screens for the tanks. I also will use Stock Tank Cleaners (biological kind) that keeps the water clean. Have used them before in regular stock tanks quite effectively. Can also use a fish strainer on the end of a pole if needed.

***Ryan: As for water use, strictly for animals (for now). Will visit Tractor Supply to see what kind of addapters & pumps they have. The one at the house I could use gravity so might add a simple on/off valve. The one at the barn will need some kind of pump. (EXCELLENT layout plan, at least to my amateur RR'ing eyes)

***Steve: "CONGRATS" and the very best to you both.

***Derrick: Wow, what a cool layout. Like the tire wear marks on that main road.

Good afternoon everyone:

Here's a local photo I took today. Cadiz RR #8 sits near I-24 & US 68. It was one of three Alco S1's that traveled on the short line in western KY.

I met today at the S1 with Gus, Dan, John, and Stan to discus an ambitous idea. The thought is to restore the thing enough to make a decent display for the local historical group. John is the historical guy. Stan is the former Cadiz RR Gen. Mgr.. Gus, Dan and I are model railroaders. Gus and I are retired railroad guys. Before Cadiz RR ended operations in 1988, it traveled over about 40 route miles. Just what I need; something else to do.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Not much doing here today.  So what else in new?

Biggest event of the day was Fran making some homemade bread.  Chef [C=:-)]  Another thing she's new at, but it came out great.  My sister-in-law showed her how to do it when we were up in Canada this summer.

Ryan - interesting looking layout.  Nice that you can also do a 3-D rendition in CAD.  Will that bridge be a duck-under, swing out/up, or a removable section?

Steve/BaylorMax - Congrats on the news.  Good for you.  I'm still hoping to get over to Beaumont on the 24th to see some of the open houses.  We're going to be up at my daughter and son-in-law's place in Cleveland for Thanksgiving.  If I make it I'll be sure to stop by.

Garry - good luck with the restoration scheme.  Just cosmetic?  Or back to running condition?  Does it still have it's prime mover and traction motors?

That's about it for the moment.  Going to pray for the Red Sox.

Hasta luego

***Derrick, how does the carsystem work? Any photos of the underside you can share? My wife thought that was a REAL photo of Vegas...very cool!

Today was spent running errands. Got all the last minute stuff to finish gutters on house and one more setup for a walk in shed in a pasture. Wrong tank fittings, so will run into town early to get the right part(s). No biggie! And the ladder stabilizer is perfect to allow reaching underneath the ladder to attach the house gutters. Just hope having these tanks isn't "too little - too late". Gulp!

Tired tonight. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening Gang: The meeting was a good one and the diner was great. Of course it was great food and it was free. Mary Ann got a door prise. Nothing big but she was happy.

Ed: Any chance of soming by here on your trip north?

Garry: That looks like an interesting project. I got to run a S-2 a number of years back.

Rob: Those tanks will pay off. If not now in the future.

I think my spelling cells have taken a vacation tonight. I guess I should go to bed.

Good Night All
