Morning all!
Well, I know they say it in other areas of the country, but around here it's really true! If you don't like the weather in Indiana, stick around 5 minutes, it'll change!
Last week we dropped 35 degrees from one day to the next. Two days ago we struggled into the mid 50's. Yesterday it was the 60's. Today we'll hit the low to mid 70's, and tomorrow, they're looking for the 80's! And lest you think the roller coaster stops there, tuesday looks like it's back to the 60's again! I guess you could say that the weather around here is anything but boring!
In other news, I used yesterday to build a basketball goal for my boy. Took me about 3/4 of the day, but it was all good. 5 minutes after I finished it, he and four other boys from the neighborhood were playing horse with it. Got a few other things to catch up on today.
So what's up with you all?
Cox 47 wrote:PC...Ditto on that changing weather seems like we don't have spring or fall anymore....
Yeah, you get the same thing, just 6 or 8 hours earlier.
hey there everyone
cool and clody here today, picked up a new nitro truck on Friday but probably wont get around to running it until the spring time, oh well. just thought id drop in and say Hi im going to get back to the Bears and Dolphins game. take care

After I figured out how to build the paper structure I built a second one. Compared to the first one, it was simple. The first one took more than a day to put together but the second one took only an hour.

Good afternoon (or is it evening? The sun's going down, so I guess evening...), Diners! Janie, I'd like a nice steak with the fixin's, please.
Thanks, Jeremy! Good to see you back in the Diner; it's been a while since you posted, right?
If anyone wants one (or a couple) of those filets, Janie said the cook got carried away once he got started, so help yourself!
Looks like it's been a lazy weekend around here, or everybody's been busy outside, perhaps. PC and Jerry, I'd agree with the changing weather comments. Just when I get the long-sleeve shirts and the jacket out, now today it's up in the 80's. So tomorrow I'll probably be wearing short sleeves for work again. It wasn't too bad for the hayride last night, only a little cool on the last leg of the ride, and around the fire. Hot dogs, chili, chips and assorted desserts.
Jerry, good to hear Sallie got out for dinner - I'm sure she enjoyed that!
Yesterday I got the Peco switches in that I'd ordered, and I think I'll be using the Pecos for the rest of my turnout needs. Now, after that, my flakey monitor (remember how it was last week?) got even flakier, and I was about sure it was going to die on me and leave me with no way to see what I was doing. Then I remembered my monitor on my other desktop Mac and I lucked out - the connectors on it were the right kind for my PowerMac. Of course, it's only a 14" monitor, so it looks tiny to me (and only 832 X 624 instead of 1024 X 768). I tried setting it to higher resolution (it would do it), but those pixels were way too teensy-weensy for my eyes! So I have a usable monitor, and next paycheck or so, I'll be ordering in an LCD widescreen (refurb) from a store that has a lot of them on eBay.
I also ended up doing major cleaning off of the hard drive - I was within about 5 GB (on a 120GB drive), which was way too snug. Did some comparing of what I had backed up or on the external drive, and deleted a lot of duplicated files. Now I have a little working/breathing room on the drive.
Jeff, are those Paper Creek buildings? I know their free download looked pretty great in terms of detail and coloring. I'd like something with more thickness to it - if I could find a nice cover stock or card stock that'd run through my printer, I might consider some of their other buildings. Nice job on yours!
Good to see you popping in (from offshore, even!) Fergie. Maybe you'll get some fair seas and be able to get some MRR projects worked on before you reach port (or if not, after you get home). I know what you mean about the good shows vs. the clearance kinds. Last show I went to had several good things to buy, but also had some rather junky stuff (that I guess they were thinking was 'vintage' = $$$).
Mitch (Eeyore9900) - nice weathering on your cars (went by your webpages)!
Not much progress for me on my MRR'ing - yesterday or today either one. Well, maybe next weekend I can get back to things. I've been trying to get caught up on documentation for work - they want it all caught up by Nov. 1st, and it looks like I'll have to be spending a fair chunk of my leisure time to get that done. Of course, if they'd be realistic on how long it takes to write up some of the documentation, I wouldn't be so behind, but I digress...
Hmmm, I think I'll have some of that butterscotch pie please, Janie.
Thanks! I'll be over in the corner working on my pie. Once PC hears me say that, he'll be in to check out the Key Lime.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
in a ATSF mug, please & thank you!
Good to be back. I had done a weekly computer clean-up before finding out about the work being done here. Oops!
***Jeffrey, do those paper structures look as good in person as they do in the photos? Dang, they look outstanding in the pics. Really like that retaining wall also.
Still working on gutters here. So much prep work (shims galore) on the barn roof and even then, the edge of the tin sections are no where near even. Will be far from perfect, but should catch "most" of the rain water, whenever we get any!
Worked on the two Bachmann Docksiders again, but it would require too much grinding/cutting/etc to make it worth pursuing any further. Will just keep an eye out for one already running.
Almost bought three model RR books last night online (gift card from last Christmas was about to expire), then changed my mind and bought a "100 Classic Sci Fi Movies" pack instead.

WHERE'S THE PIE????
Hello everyone ...
Here's a photo I posted on weekend photo fun...
I've been busy with familiy. grandkids here until Tuesday. We had a great boat ride on the lake. Nice lunch at the marina. Tree colors were nice. Sunny; mid 70's. Ideal conditions.
Hamfest was fun. Too much food.
Cheers everyone.

Evening Gang: Well the live steam meet was great. The weather was cool but not cold. No rain and abit cloudy. I rain my diesel Sat and ran off to Ft. Worth for a train show. I got 5 Varney ore cars and 1 MDC taper side plus a heavy truck a Walthers catalogue and finally 2 new books. Both books were new from MBI. One is on the DM&IR and the other on the Milw Rd. When I got back to the track I ran a bit more and let one of the guys have a crack at it. When I got back this morning John told me that the prime mover in the diesel has a problem. It started smoking real bad. It had been smoking a bit but we figured that it hadn't been run in a long while and would stop if it got some running. I'm hoping it is just a stuck oil ring. I put some light oil in the cylinder and pulled it through a couple of times and am letting it sit until tomorrow. I'll get it out and see how it goes. If it still does it I'll have to pull the engine out and have it looked at. Today John steamed up the live steamer and ran about 7 hours. An old friend and I were riding with him when an axle on the gondola broke. So I'm going to work on getting the new wheels mounted on axles and installed. There is always something.
Jeff: I really like that shed. I'll look that sight up and give it a try. Good job on the retaining wall and that culvert looks good too.
Fergie have a good trip.
Well i think I'll head for bed.
Good Night All
Good evening everyone!
Fergie The Sportsplex show is about the middle of Nov. George’s Trains weren’t at Truro, BTW.
Finally got to the rock casting staining this evening after my walk. Still have the upthrust rock to do, and that will be a different colour mix that I haven’t decided on yet. Here’s one pic that shows some of the new work, together with the Trailer train flat, and a depressed centre flat I got in a show in the Spring. Here’s a long shot of the rock wall. The overhanging bits make more sense now, I think. Here’s looking the other way up that same face. The focus isn’t the greatest as I couldn’t squeeze in the corner too well with the camera to get this one.
The next job, after the remaining staining, is to get the ground cover a basic green before adding coloured ground foams, etc.
Jeff I like those card buildings, and have used them effectively on all my layouts. Humidity is a challenge, but a good sealing coat usually takes care of that. There was a vendor from New Brunswick at the show with an extensive range of buildings, vessels, etc. They have kits. I think they work with either printed paper that’s then glued to matte board, or printed matte board. Quite sturdy anyway, and really sharp looking when painted up. They had a whole layout display with car ferry and a dock scene. All the structures were paper/card.
It’s late, so I’ll say Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Good evening - just a quick stop on the way home for the night.
DerJohn, nice work - very nice! I see you're working on a depot also, huh? That scenery looks fine, even without being all done!
Garry, great photo at your depot, too - but the driver of that 57 Chevy better be careful backing up, so he/she doesn't get a little 'body work' done...

So, PC - what took you so long?
Think I'll head for home, since I'm sure all the pie is (or will be soon) gone...

(again) I was wondering if the wee little folk should park their cars parallel to the tracks, rather than backing up over them to get out? Or is there an exit we can't see from this photo between buildings? BTW, Superb ground work in and around around the tracks.
Hitting the hay early tongiht. TaTa! Rob
Evenin' folks-just a quick coffee to go & I'm off to zzz land.
Headed down this morning to hook up with my fiance at the festival-she did well $ wise-almost $200 in sales! I roamed around too, & noticed that an HO TRAIN layout was rolling on display in a transplanted depot on the property (used to be on the old NYC line that ran thru the eastern part of Carroll Co, but was moved to the festival site some years ago by the historical society & the layout installed within) Anyways, was cool to check out & give me inspiration. Nothing in the way of true accuracy (& a lot of cars I noticed in need of WEATHERING! ) but still cool-the fellow running it had things set up with DCC, & did his best to represent fallen flags of the area (PRR, PC, NYC, & a neat steam powered NKP coal train. One of his trains had a gon ahead of the loco, & had a small cam fitted in which was showing the train's progress showing on a TV screen above. Neat as all get out. (I remember when the smallest you could get would barely fit into a Lionel loco.) He also had 2 Thomas engines which seem to be a staple anymore at layouts on public display for the kids.
Another thing I'm curious about & need to find out I guess-the mill itself had a steam whistle thats sounds almost identical to those "hooter" whistles on the old N&W mallets. At some point in the future I'll have to find out where they got theirs.
My bud never showed up as he was supposed to, so just wait till I see him again...LOL!
Jim! Thanks-my website is way overdue for an update-I've done several more cars since then (& a few more on the way) I have to be nice to my other half since she's the one that set it up & basically created it. (she needs to update hers too LOL!)
K, the coffee's kickin' in-gettin' too chatty-off to bed- Nite All!
Good morning ! from Indiana.

Good morning.
There's rain in the forecast this morning.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 10/15/2007 Wind Chill: 64°FHumidity: 86%Dew Point: 60°F So Far TodayHigh: 66°FLow: 64°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 8mph SSE Today High: 85 Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Light and variable winds becoming southeast around 10 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight Low: 65 Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the mid 60s. Light and variable winds.
FINALLY, looks like we might see some rain in the near future. We're WAY behind on rainfall this year.
TODAY...WARMER AGAIN! Highs hit the mid-70's Sunday, and we will tack about 5 degrees to that today. Here is a map of expected highs temperatures. Weather will be dry today, with a mixture of sun and clouds, rain chances will hold off until tonight.
RAIN ON THE WAY! A line of storms will develop in Illinois this afternoon, and this wave of moisture will move into central Indiana after sunset. The verdict is still out on how well this wave of moisture will hold together. If this moisture can sustain the lack of lift and overnight timing...rain amounts COULD be between .25" and .75", which is much needed.
Got my honey-do list knocked out yesterday, but my own list didn't get touched. My boy has basketball practice tonight, so it doesn't look like my list will get done tonight either. Maybe tomorrow night?
So whats up in your neck of the woods?
Good Morning, Zoe - one of Bill T.'s donuts and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks!
Mitch (Eeyore9900), I'm with you - a clean car looks too shiny for my tastes. Definitely weathering is in order! (My )
A bit cooler this morning, and supposed to get some rain today or tonight. Then another chance for rain on Wednesday, the weatherguessers are saying. We sure need it for the crops and gardens around here.
I'll be in the corner booth, finishing up breakfast. Prayers for your week (w**k or not).

Hi, All. I have been out of touch lately. Just busy. Some days I didn't even turn the computer on.
I see that Jim is feeding everyone well.
Philip has been telling jokes.
Garry and Jeff are sharing their photos. Oh, Jeff, I like the sagging gutters.
Der, glad to see you working on the layout. It is always great to get some color.
Rob, I went climbing in Leavenworth with a couple of friends yesterday. The pastures look more like dirt than grass. Is yours still blowing away? When you get rain, will the grass come back, or do you have to replant?
I will just have some coffee black. I have a few fence things to do before it starts raining again. Looks like the ten day forcast is for rain.
Derrick, Great photos.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
in a UP mug, please & thanks!
***Philip, ANY extra rain, PLEASE send our way. Need to get a few more parts to finish gutters today, but I plan on being ready to catch any and every drop that hits these roofs.
***Derrick, all I can say about those photos is WOW! Thanks for posting them.
***Sue, wasn't there a big fire around Leavenworth some years back, or am I thinking of somewhere else? Our pastures still have some green in them, all tough weed species. It would have to rain much & frequently to bring the pasture grasses back to life. We have never had to re-seed, but who knows what the future holds here. Desperately need a couple major tropical storms to come and sit on us to make any difference.
Well, time to water the critters (Please Well God, keep bringing forth life-giving water)
Rob must be buying. It is a little early for lunch, but I will have coffee and a piece of pie.
Yes, we were talking about the fire. We were guessing 1994. The blacken corpses of the trees were a beautiful contrast with the yellow/orange/green in the drainages yesterday.
Afternoon Folks!
Welcome to all the newbie's: Big90mack aka Jesse C. and Mitch (AKA) The Donkey
Another busy weekend over...and back to the grind stone now!
Worked in the yard Saturday morning, hopefully that's that last time the grass will need cutting for the growing season.
Watched LSU get beat by Kentucky on Saturday and then watched Seattle get beat by the Saints on Sunday. Go SAINTS!
Phillip - Glad to hear that the wife is doing better!
Rob - I guess we are getting that 100 year drought again! How's the gutter and rain recovery system coming along?
Ed - Your cooking sounds good and ratatouille is one of my favorite eggplant dishes! On, and keep those pies a coming....Fran must be work-in overtime now!
Duke - Then the next time were in Texas we'll have to make plans to visit with Paul and check out their 7.5" layout!
Jim - Nice look-in Filets you got there. They look good enough to eat!
Paul - Sounds like the live steam meet went well! What times of the year to you all have the meets?
Der John - Those rock castings are looking really great on you layout!

Oh yea! I'd like to get a link to that, look forward to seeing their setup too!
Hello everybody...
Thanks for the remarks on my photo. Believe it or nt the Chevy is clear of trains. A '59 Caddy would not have cleared its tailfins, however. Thanks to Rob for comments on track ballasting.
Der John ....... the rock work is very good!!! (We still would like to get back to NS, but this year was way too eventful.)
Jeff ...... the little building looks great to me.
Derrick .... I'm impressed! Any more photos?
Paul ....... You did well at the train show. I'm glad for you. I like those old Varney cars, too. The live steam meet sounded like a great time. Sounds like a rough ride on the gondola. Perhaps. it can be fixed by mounting sails on it. The you can be Gon With The Wind!
Happy Model Railroading.
