Our power didn't go out during the storm, but the truck stop where I weighed the calves went out between my 2 weighs, so they had to do the second weigh manually.  Lots of trees down, but minimal power outages in our area, Mark.  The power company did a good job of clearing the wires after the bad storm last fall.

Hello everybody .....

The storms disrupted our model railroad get-together last night. We were about to have a really good turnout.  However, as the appointed start time was arriving, so did the storm. Gus's volunteer fire radio said there were tornado warnings and one was spotted only 5 miles west of here. The guys from Hopkinsville high-tailed home. I heard that there was some tornado damge there. An hour later, three of us got together for about an hour. Then, Gus was called because volunteer firefighters were called to help clear trees at certin locations. We divided the brief session about equally between my layout and Gus's layout. The basement is where you you go for tornados, and that's where the layout is. Power outages were brief.

Jerry mentioned getting a locomotive that does not workon ebay. I have done well with some clunkers I bought on ebay. I purchased one diesel for $5.00 that did not work. Upon receiving it, I removed the shell and found an easy fix. All that was needed was to place a dislgged brush spring back where it belonged. The locomotive has run fine ever since. I love those deals!

Rob... Jim is correct about post-Christmas deals at Hobby Lobby.  Typically model railroad stuff is half price or better during the clearance sale at that time. Sometimes, but not always, Woodland Scenics products are half priced. If your local Hobby Lobby does that, you have a deal. Hobby Lobby (last I knew) observes Sundays and is closed on Sundays. I like dealing with retailers who still do that.

JR ... thanks for pix of ATSF 4-6-4!

Paul ... congrats on anniversay!

Tracklayer ..... I'd like to know if the minitrix wheel cleaner is satisfactory. Perhaps, you can give a little reve. thanks.

Philip was "pondering"....... now Philip, you've got to get to work on that layout!

We must continue our ban on lawyer jokes out of respect for Texas Steve. I still think his news is terrific.

Happy Model Railroading!

Sounds like some of those storms made life interesting for a few of you. Glad y'all came through OK.

Caught 400Gal down in the barn tank and 150+Gal here at the house. Will continue to use well water and consider these tanks emergency back-up.

Thanks for the advise on when to buy. Will wait until after Christmas and see what goes on sale. The Kato SD90/43MAC (on my computer desk) has requested I find it a companion. It told me the old steamers lived in their own little world and wouldn't talk with it. What am I to do?Whistling [:-^]

Good evening everybody,

Love the term 'dieseasal syndrome', it is so contagious.

Working away on my second module again tonight, hope to have the rough scenery done by spring and finally some freights rolling again.  Building everything in modular form requires patience.

I think we are FINALLY getting some rain.

Hope everybody is well.

Evening folks-just a small black coffee for me please.

Well, we didn't get any storms here luckily, but we didn't get the rain we really needed either. When I got up this morning my rain gauge registered .22"-granted, it was something, but we still need a little more.

Rob-Thanks for the compliments on my cars-as to how long it takes me to do one, well it varies. My 2nd car (DDD#2) I did in about a month, mainly because it was for a monthly weathering forum challenge. The others took 3-6 months, but weren't worked on steadily. I started on a couple this past winter, but with finding a house & moving, things went on hiatus a little this past spring & summer. Now that things are "somewhat" settled, I'm getting back into the swing of things. I hope to have at least the next one done by January.

Well, I think I'll wander down to the workbench for a bit, & then come back to listen to Eddie Stubbs Classic Country Request Night on WSM. Nite all!

Hi, all,

Just a quick note.   Tonight I gave Judy her engagement/wedding ring and she's thrilled, as am I.  For us older folk, one ring is more popular than two.

She tolerates trains and loves me.  What more could I ask for?

Night all.  Later!

Good evening folks:

Had a very pleasant meal out with our daughter, the grandkids and the new man in her life. Compared to her ex …well there is really no comparison. I had, over dinner, more intelligent conversation with him than I had had with the ex in the entire time he was married to her! He has some serious medical issues, but it is terrific to see her happy for a change.

I’ve got the rock castings worked out for the tunnel mouth and approaches at the west end of the upper tunnel. I’ll get them glued on tomorrow, with any luck (it’s supposed to rain all day, starting tonight) and the sawdust/glue mix put on. Here’s what the work site looks right now. The castings are just propped in place, but the saw cuts are all made, so when they are glued, a little plaster work to fill in the joins and cracks, and we are good to go for the ground cover to go on. I’m going to crush up some spare castings too for the talus slopes, and stain the whole lot together. I doubt I’ll get that far this weekend, but that’s the plan.

Texas Steve:

I thought it was a regular train show but then one of the gang thought it was mainly tinplate and kiddie stuff. I guess I'll have to check out its web site.
…That could be OK too, if you think about it…nothing like planning ahead past this December! (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) Big Smile [:D]

Sue: You asked how long it takes for a round trip on the Maritime Trunk. I haven’t measured in a while, but it seems to me that it was between 5 to 7 minutes. The layout’s designed for walk around, with the operator tagging along with the train, and throwing hand switches for the most part. It’s DCC, but not wireless, so the hand held has to be plugged in to one of 5 ports. I do have a second cab, but have never had a second operator to try it out on.

JP Great to see you in again. Any mrr news?

PC: Great page of funnies. I sent them off to the Cleanhumor guys, hope you don’t mind.

Ed:

By the way, that photo of your layout that you sent got me sufficiently energized that I finally got out my weathering powders and finished up that boxcar that I had painted and decaled last weekend.
…Yes indeed, that layout of Jerry’s could have that effect on a person! Hasn’t he done a superb job in the space?Bow [bow]

Jerry: Glad you’ve got Sallie home for the weekend. Don’t work her too hard!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Must get to bed.

all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing comfort and peace.

Evening Gang: John started work on the extension for the transfere table at the live steam track. He managed to hi-jack me to run the mini-excavator and dig the trenches for the footings of the slab. I also got out to Clark Gardens and picked up the floor plan for the building where the trains are. I'm working on a plan for an HO gauge display layout. I'm planning on a two level layout with a double track loop on the first level depicting Weatherford Tex. today. I think that I can have six trains running in sequance. The upper level will be Weatherford circa 1920 to 1930. Again several different trains in sequence. I don't know if we'll build it in house or go to a pro builder. I'm for the builder as it will be faster and we can count on a deadline. Of course the cost is to be considered.

Ed: The end of April 08 would be fantastic. We are having a large live steam meet the last weekend of April. Let me know how things go.

Well we have to get up early tomorrow. Our son in law is coming into town. He is brining a V-22 in for the air show at Ft.Worths Alliance airport. He is a master sergent in Air Force. We'll go the airport and pick him and a couple of his buddys and spend time with them. They want to go fishing so I guess we'll turn them loose on the creek and pond. He wanted to go out to John's place but since it's leased for hunting that won't be possible.

I've got the yauns so I'd better say

Good Night All

Morning!

Train show in town today!  Don't know if I'll get to go though.  Gotta do some other stuff ya know.  Guess we'll se, huh?

Weather is nice for a change though......yes, it happens!  Supposed to be mostly sunny & pleasant - high: 73.  We had some wild weather yesterday though.  North of here a ways was hit by an F3 tornado!  Did some damage with it's sustained winds in the range of 160-165 mph, but it was in a more rural area, so it could have been worse.  Still, sent five people to the hospital with minor injuries.

What's up with you all?

Always love the weather after a storm front moves through - clears the air out and drops the humidity some. Good to hear the nastier storms missed about everybody, and that at least a few of you got some needed rain.

Jerry, sorry to hear that Sallie couldn't come home for the weekend. Maybe soon they'll get things straightened out so she can. Congrats on your eBay wins! Yeah!! [yeah]

Gotta go for now - I'll be back later (Garry, remember to get another carload of that ham on the way here. I might've finished the last of it, as big as Janie had the cook pile it on my sandwich! Dinner [dinner] I'm heading for Hobby Lobby with my trusty 40% off coupon, to see what I can find!

Blessings on your weekend,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
