HI ALL:

50 degrees outside but 15 mph east wind so it feels cold, 39degrees wind chill factor.

DICK:

We missed your birthday but thisis a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY from both of us.

The doors to the MRR are opoen again and I've got a heater in there so its warmer 72! The walls are in the process of being painted, one wall at a timemy back won't stand much more. Kathy spent another 3 days in the hosp. this time for a colon blockage. They finally figured out that it was an overdose of morphine too much at one time so now she is spredding it out to 4 times a day at 80 each time. The drs. say that she can't stand as much at one time as I can and that stopped her up for 5 days. Everything is fine now.    FERGIE: Very glad that dad is getting better and that you can now use that double pot. LOL  LOL  LOL.  I can't remember who did the clouds oh yea Philip they are great I hope mine come out close to the same. I did buy that tape from home depot and have studied it for a while maybe I can do it. I will try hard and probably have to do it over so I will try it in the shop on a piece of my shop wall. Yes I will. We are having a SP&S weekend garbage sail in march and I'm going to try to go, Kathy can't take the 100 mile ride very uncomfortable for her, so maybe I'll get to go.

I have not had much time to work on the comp as Kathy has been in and out of the hosp. 6 times now since the 1st of december but we did have a very good Christmass and I finally got caught up with all my reading sitting in the hosp waiting for her to get well: wellll better should be said.       OH by the way I've got 2 walls and one ceiling painted white so something is getting bettert in the train room. SNOW is all gone about 10 days ago it wasn't even pretty, we want our RAIN back and its comming fri of sat.................. I've talked enough and its almost time to start dinner

GOD BLESS and prayers for all             CHUCK and KATHY

Remember model railroad logging is a FUN business and we all need FUN........ACD

Good afternoon fellow diners!

I'll have a barley pop and some peanuts please!

Made some plywood sub-roadbed cuts on Friday and must have taken at least 3 hours to finish them all up. These sections will complete the lower deck reverse loop for the main line. After all the jig saw cuts I had to take a brake, my neck and back were hurting so much I could hardly stand up.

Updated my layout website by splitting up the photos page into four separate pages to avert loading all the images on one page, it was taking too much time. There are over 130 images and having them all on one page was starting to get too big. Now all the images are split up into a quarterly basis time frame starting with May 2006 through July 2006 and so on: Ryan's Layout

We went "window shopping" on Saturday for the HDTV's and now we have narrowed our focus to the rear projection DLP models. Mitsubishi has a great 65" widescreen DLP HDTV, and it uses a six color wheel with the DLP technology. The misses really likes it, we will try to check out the local Tweeter later this week. CompUSA is selling the same model Mitsubishi as Best Buy for $100.00 less, and the Tweeter web site shows it that same price as Best Buy.

So, how you all doing this afternoon?

Now it's time for me to catch up from 45...

Cheers,

Ryan

Good afternoon everyone, 1st...I want to thank everyone for the BD wishes, and how was it you ask? Well, anytime you reach 65, EVERY birthday after that is GREAT!!

The jaw is still mighty sore after the extraction and gum surgery/bone implant to receive a new tooth in 4 weeks....still on Amoxicillin. Ooopppps , that just reminded me, I had to go take another pill, need those every 6 hours until gone, precautionary for infection.

The BIG E train show in West Springfield, Ma was great. And let me tell you guys who also read the General forum threads on the subject " this hobby is dying", or all the other nay sayers comments......the place was packed, three large building, over 7 acreas. I saw people of every age from babies to people being wheeled around in their 90's, men, women modelers, teenagers......I don't know if the shows in other parts of the country are as crowded, or have the same diversity, but I can say this, all is alive and well in the Northeast. The parking lot had cars from Canada, NY, Ohio, Pa, NJ, NY, all tne NE states, FL, NC, Maryland, one guys was from CA on a business trip and came from Boston for the day. I know what the parking lots hold, and there had to be over 10,000 cars there by noontime and still arriving in a steady stream. I think J.R. can atest to the crowds.

I dropped $300 there at the show, and had to refrain from spending more, I could have gone crazy, there was so much. Every one of the vendors was present, all the DCC companies, train Mfgrs, Woodland Scenice, demos, How to's etc. A great train show. My biggest purchase was the Sterling Dairy kit of several building, $108...price tag on the box said $179.

Another cold wave hit us today, not as bad as last week, it is 21F today, so the wood stove is cranking.

FERGIE: Gee, you didn't have to let the cat out of the bag, people like Lisa and Sue are new to the Diner and didn't see last year's party...and besides, Phil made me do it, he spiked my OJ.

JEFF: Hope the test come out OK, my dad was a Diabetic since age 48, but he made it to age 88 by watching his intake very carefully, and he was a non smoker...but he liked his beer to a reasonable level....his doctor said, he drank beer all his life, he's 87, so let him enjoy it, he made it longer than most. There is a woman doctor that has actually cured some type II diabetics by keeping them on a very restricted Carbo diet. As I am sure that you know, Carbs in excess all get stored by the body as fat, and guess what the body needs to do that.........insulin, and the poor Pancreas has to work overtime to force that excess carb glucose into every cell until it wears itself out....then it is insulin shots time. It must work because every one of the past 4  generations at least, of the males and females on my father's side have all had type II by their 40's. I am the 1st NOT to have type II, now at age 68, by limiting my Carbs...I maintain a weight of 185 at 5'-10".

J.R. I tried to get to table 99 in the Young building, but we had two little ones with us, it was noontime and they were hungry, and we had to leave to go to Deerfield. Sorry I missed you buddy, next year. How did you find the show this year?

Later guys,

Mag subsciption, definately. Also the link to Walther's website. They can put together a wishlist online there.

Went in to have blood work done today, so they'll know if there's anything I need to be worried about. Urine test also so they can see how my kidneys are doing. Diabetes does strange and not-so-wonderful things to kidneys.

Well, seeing as Hoople is buying this time around, I'm having fish steaks and chili.

Morning Gang: I just got back from taking my annual CEUs for my electrical license. I've got to do 4 hours every year for the state. It's no big deal and I do learn somethings.

So now it's 3 days and a wake up. I've still got a bunch of stuff to get packed up to take home. I started to clean out my files and desk. That shouldbe a couple of boxes by them selves.

They have finally got my replacement. I'll get to spend Wednesday with him and fill him in on what I can. They picked the guy I recommended so I'm happy about that.

Other then that I'm going to take it easy and try to stay out of trouble.

I see that Hoople is buying. Since he needs his money for that Dcc system I'll pick up the tabe for this page. Ladies just get out my number and let the guys have at it.

I'll see you all later.

Good morning. Unlike the rest of you guys, I wake up at 7.
I guess I'll have a cinnamon roll.
Well, Now it's monday, and I'm wondering how many ounces a digitrax zephyr weighs, because Empire Northern says that anything over 13 ounces gets changed to priority mail, which causes two problems: I can't spell it right, and I can't pay for it. I only have $157, not $164.
If it is over 13 ounces, I'm gonna just go work at granny's for a couple a hours, then I'll have around $170.  I also have a gift certificate for my LHS, so that's where I'll get a decoder, some retaining walls, another tunnel portal, and hopefully some sculptamold, so I can get stormont hill done.
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHH!!!!! Looks like I'm buying. Go easy, I am about to order my Zephyr...

Good Morning All,

I'll have some of Lucs' coffee please and now that you've mentioned it,  a couple of eggs over medium on rye with a side of back bacon would be great.

Der - I agree it is easy to overdo things in any scale. Bar Mills was at the show over the weekend and the overall effect of their stuff is over the top. Good kits, but the level of detail they add can be too much. In the sixties, downtown San Francisco was kept spotless because they came through evey night and swept and hauled away litter before it had a chance to build up. That's my preference for a look.

Fergie - Glad that things are turning the corner for you and that reason prevailed with the plumbing code issues. May you be able to return to the layout soon.

Lots to do today so I'd better get after it. Hope you all have a good one.  CUL,J.R.

Temp13, with a wind chill of bout 7 now outside, looking for a high in the mid to upper 20's, increasing winds from the SW 10 to 15, chance of light snow this evening and tonight.

DER, I think DREMEL still makes that for sharpen chain saws or did. I seen them not to long ago, but don't remember where.

PAUL, me and a freind of mine made a black powder log splitter out of stainless steel, 1 1/4 x 8.One end was tappered and we drilled a a hole down the center for loading the powder and wadding. You drove into the block, stuck a cannon fuse in, light it and look up. Cause you never knew for sure where it was going to come down at..

I got all the track down on one main line but didn't get any power ran yet. Went out the the shed to get the two rolls of wire I'd bought and the mice had been chewing on them. Good evening folks:  Worked my way along a rock wall a piece today, so am quite happy.  Even solved a “handle” problem for the largest hatch in that wall.  I’d glued a piece of blue foam to the vertical face to act as a handle, and to represent a rock face jutting out horizontally.  Actually doing the thing in rock castings turned out to be a matter of gluing two identical castings, sanded smooth on their undersides, back-to-back, and cutting away the foam so as to be able to insert that assembly into the rock wall.  Sawdust/glue mix filled in the gaps.  When it all sets up, it should be ...um ...rock solid!

JR:

the green I meant is the light clumps of dark green algae or moss that grow in the crevices of the rocks.
…I know the stuff you mean.  There’s some here and there.  I might add a touch when I get to do the ground foam greens for the final ground-cover.  Thanks for the tip.  I’ve also looked at the East River wharf in Sheet Harbour, and it is grunged up considerably with a dark stringy weed coating the piles.  I feel that while these details are authentic, it would be easy to overdo the thing, in N.  I’ll experiment perhaps with the small sample of wharf I used as a proof of concept model and see what it looks like.

The van started making exhaust manifold type noises on Thursday, so I’ve got to take it in tomorrow at 10:00.  Oh joy, if it’s not one thing, it’s another!

Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Good Evening All,

Back from the Big E - a little over 20,000 people in two days most of which I think visited our booth. Didn't see Dick though i was "on duty" from 730 to 11 on Saturday and then from about 1 to closing. Got an S-1 in New Haven full balloon and an H16-44 the same to replace my later baby trainmaster. Visited with some friends and saw the new I-5 BLI that I ordered (shh - don't tell the missus). First run is sold out already so I'm glad I got the order in early. Also got some miniplugs so I can get the decoder install finished on a couple of steam locos and one of theose arc welding effects gizmos just because.

Paul, lots of fun moving tool boxes no? The best one was when I left the Porsche dealership and we loaded the box into an AMX, two Triumphs and a VW Beetle (old type). Pushed the down button on the overhead door and threw my keys under it as it came down. 28 was too early for an ulcer.

Der - the green I meant is the light clumps of dark green algae or moss that grow in the crevices of the rocks. I agree the "seaweed" is correct though further south they get rather more kelp.

Finished unloading all my train stuff and new "loot" and need a nice glass of cabernet and then a good nights rest. Lots of work to do tomorrow.  CUL,Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Paul,

That log splitter sounds great.  We cut up some trees on our place on Thursday.  We were talking about checking out a  splitter that will fit on the PTO of our tractor.  It is not so messy if you split them where they fall.
