I'd suggest checking at your local WalMart to see what they have in Kodak digital cameras. I'm not sure how low your camera budget is, but they usually have good prices on Kodak cameras. Most of what is in the stores these days has way more megapixels than you will ever need for general picture taking. 3-5 MP are more than sufficient, and we're now seeing point-and-shoot cameras with between 7 and 12 MP. Most of the Kodak cameras I have seen and used have a macro setting for close up work, and an optical zoom (where the lens moves back and forth).
There are fancier cameras, but Kodak puts out a good product that is easy to use and well suited for general photography. Their software for editing and organizing is also more than adequate.
Good luck on your search,
Ed

Afternoon, Janie - I'll have some fajitas
and a root beer float, please!
Jeff, that's good news on the tests. I'd call the BB Athearn and the P2K about a tie on sound. I also was wondering if that KCS 682 loco is about due for a repaint job. Wonder how hard it'd be to weather one of your locos like that...
Inch, that's a decent pot of beans, there - how long do you cook that many?
Hey Scott, how'd the first day of work go? Cute girlfriend there; I'm with whoever it was who was wondering if she's into railfanning...
Well, congrats to the Red Sox (and the Cubbies) on their division wins. Sorry I missed the party last night, but it looked like Chloe and Zoe got things cleared away before they went home. Place looked pretty neat today (except for some key lime fragments in the corners of the Diner, which I guess got there from one of PC's pie-eating frenzies... ).
Ride 'em safe, Duke! Maybe you can tie a rainstorm onto the back of your bike and drag it down Ryan's way.
I'm planning on some MRR'ing work today - some structure(s) assembling, possibly also some more freight cars to put together, too. Since it's supposed to fairly tolerable out (only about 81 F/27 C right now), I may haul some stuff outside and do a bit of painting on the deck.
Well, got to go for now. I may be back in later in the day. Enjoy your weekend fun!
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Afternoon all
Paul I have sent an Email to Ryan to let him know that the steam engines won't be running for this meet because of the dry conditions in his part of the country and it has been dry up here in Mich as well. When and if I get to be an ORF in the next couple years I just might have to make plans to go to two meets. The one in Apex and then head down your way if you wouldn't mind a Yankee hanging around for a day or two.
JimGC As long as the rain would stay behind me and wait until the meet is over, that wouldn't be a bad idea .
That's about it
Best to all on sick call and those recovering
Talk to you later

I can vouch for the fact that Paul is a gracious host, and openly accepts Yankees (at least transplanted ones like me). Truth be known, if memory serves me right, Paul himself hails from north of the Mason-Dixon line.
His local club has a great setup only a couple of miles from his place. His own layout (the big one outside) is impressive in its own right.
Later
Ed Thanks and that is good to know, but I would have to admit that it would serve two purposes. It would be a longer ride before it(the bike) would have to be put up because of the white stuff and it would be a chance to meet another one of the fine members of the Diner(CS). Reading your post one more time I think it is Wis or Min.
Inch That is one BIG pot of beans and you know what the means?? Beans,Beans, the more you eat (and I think you know the rest).
Garry Let me be a late comer to congrat you on the photo as I have only looked at the Oct issue once but made sure I found your pic tonight.
***Philip, I thought Jeff's girlfriend was a blonde?

Evening Gang:
Duke we'ed be plaesed to have you come down. Yea, I'm originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Lived my early years on the shores of Lake Michagan. I know about the not running because of dry conditions. We had 2 diesel only meets and several cancelled run days last year.
We went out to John's place today as planned and that was about the last of the plan that worked. I raked the small field and wish I haden't. The windrows were really too big to put together and the hay was real light and fine. I made a real mess out of what I raked. We're going to leave the rest alone and bale as is. The advantage to putting 2 windrows together is the baling goes faster.
Mary Ann and I went out for dinner and I had a pretty good steak. Of course now I'm ready for bed.
Good Night All
Howdy...
Next time somebody picks on Jeff, he'll dispatch one of those girlfriends to the person. That'll put an end to that immediately.
Duke, thanks for the remarks on the photo in October trackside photos. Ryan asked about how I did it. I don't regard myself as much of a photographer. I took numerous shots with the digital camera until it seemed acceptable. I sent it to MR and one of the editors coached me a bit to improve it some more. I resubmitted, and it was accepted. It was published a few months later. I tend to have depth of field problems if camera view is looking down the line; so I opted for a broadside closeup shot to avoid that issue. Also, the camera's best focus is in the center of the picture, so I cropped off much of the scene that was away from the center. Placing the red automobile in the center helped my camera's auto focus, too.
We were at a church fund raiser today and we were high bids on two homemade cakes, a carrot cake and an Itlalian cream cake. More than we can eat, so it's on us in the Diner with the cakes. Unlike certain key lime pie fans, we share.
Happy model railroading.

Good evening, Janie! I'll have a brownie hot fudge sundae, please.
Rob, I'm not sure where you and PC are finding those women, but that just ain't appealing to me (sorry if I offended any of the ladies, or Jeff Just teasing you there, Jeff).
Ryan, I forgot to say earlier, but I really liked your photos of the roundhouse project. Did you have to add interior wall details on that back wall, or did it come with that pattern? It looks good, whichever way it was. And when will you put a little rust on the safety rails, to go with the rust on the girder sides of the turntable?
Our church is studying the 40 Days of Community book (same author as 40 Days of Purpose), and today we had 900 people at church at 7:15 a.m. for a service 'Blitz' (helping the community in some way - see article here on the church's website, or a write-up in our local paper, which incorrectly says that Rick Warren attends here - he's in California). It was something else to see that many people come out to help others.
I was amazed that I got up at my usual weekday time this morning, but got out the door an hour earlier. I did get called out by my on-call this afternoon, but was able to wind that up in time to make the 5:30 service at church.Of course, tonight I'm a bit tired, so I may head off for bed soon (after I finish my hot fudge brownie a la mode). Just hoping that my on-call doesn't need me again tonight.
Blessings on rest of your weekend,
***Jim, it could be worse...take a look at the mugs on these women(?)...

BTW, I trained one bodybuilder for about a year, a long time ago. He suffered 3 hernias in the time I knew him. Now they are living chemistry sets. OK, ehough babble.
Been shopping around for my dream Kato. I don't care for the UP with the black lettering "WE WILL DELIVER" and I'm not so sure I like the lightning (zigzag stripe) version either. Kinda like the pure strait line with plain old Union Pacific. The "wings" are fine, but haven't seen them on the plain versions.
Good night all. Rob

Go to church, mow the lawn, and throw in a heavy dose of napping, that's my day today! Oh yeah, gotta get the kitty door installed!
Supposed to be in the low to mid 80's today, with plenty of sunshine on tap! I'm down with that!
Inch, I made a batch of that magical fruit the other day! It's both filling and entertaining at the same time!

Right now I have 6 pieces of moss growing, or at least I think they are growing, 5 are in a styreen dish that I carved out of a trophy holder, filled in with screened dirt leftover from my sandbox that no longer existis. and I have one piece as my experimental currently on my layout. I hoping this works. if the one on the layout grows then I go ahead with phase 2 of my master plan.

I was just in time this morning to catch this shot of sunrise on the layout.

Poster paper painted Nimble Blue (Wal-Mart ColorPlace, color #91424, B-1, D-65, E-46). The background is just a blowup of a photo I found online.
Check your PM's for a long message with lots of pics.
Hey y'all!
A cup of coffee for me please, if you wouldn't mind. Thank ya Chloe.
Ready for another day of workin' on the railroad. First day wasn't bad. I've got a lot of stuff to learn, and it's gonna take a good bit of time to get everything down pat. I was working on the shifter building the local train and then building the North bound freight to Harrisburg and Enola. Had a good many high and wides on that one, as well as excessive weight cars. Today I get to be more involved, Friday was kinda just watching and learning. It's cool stuff though, it is.
Yesterday was great too, spent all day with Sarah. And finished the night off with the Homecoming dance. It wasn't bad, but they didn't play any good music at all...
See y'all later.
