Concretes for breakfast?
I will just have coffee.
Sue
Yeah, Sue, but remember, for Dick and those on the East Coast, it's almost noon now.
Jim in Cape Girardeau
in a Union Pacific mug, please & thank you.
The Inlaws were on a hunger strike in their room yesterday and wouldn't come out. Must have run out of cheerios & chips this morning, as they ate breakfast in the dining area. I only pitty the FIL, because he surely would have prefered eating real meals yesterday. No more bringing them any food stuffs, that will force both of them to eat the meals their kids are paying for them to have. (THANKFUL they are no longer here...whew)
Well, below is a pic of one of the numerous projects I've been dabbling on. This is half of my new painting porch. In honor of Elliotts Trackside Diner, I added the old MacD's chairs/tables out there. Still have window sills to do and a lighted fan to buy (and then modify), but all that can wait awhile. (Colors are way off, it is actually a beautiful porch)
OK, time to get to work on some more book shelves. Have a great day all. Rob
Jim,
Sometimes mid afternoon here is a good time for dinner. I enjoy previewing what I might want for dinner. Well, I should head to town for some errands.
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good afternoon to all, very much a Fall day here today, 66F, DP of 49F, RH of 56%, very nice day indeed. Getting packed for the Canadian Rockies trip, batteries for the Digital camera and Video camera are all charging, bags are packed.
SUE: I will be in Vancouver on October 9th, I was hoping that were were going to fly out of Portland or at least Seattle, we might have been able to get together for a coffee, etc. but I guess Vancouver is the closest that we will get to Olympia.
DUKE: We fly into O'Hare on the 10th, so maybe if you sent up a flare or set off a cannister of marker dust, I can drop a crate of goodies from Central Hobbies in Vancouver.
JIM: I heard that you ate all ED's Key Lime pie that Fran made for the Diner folks...not nice not to share.......Hoople was very upset as was Der John and Fergie.
Later,
NEWS FLASH...This just in: Wife arrived home just as I was paying for my own Birthday Present (BD is Oct. 7th). Fortunately, she didn't see what I was paying for it. Here it is:
To celebrate, Free Coffee and/or Icecream floats all around. Enjoy! Rob

Dick,
I assume that you mean Vancouver, BC. If it were Vancouver, WA, that would be pretty close. Less that 100 miles.
It looks like today is the deadline on having a passport to travel to Canada. Larry and I decided that we should get ours.
Hope that you have a great trip. Do you have a laptop to download your photos and videos onto? That would be one more thing to carry, but sure saves on space in the memory card.
grayfox1119 wrote:JIM: I heard that you ate all ED's Key Lime pie that Fran made for the Diner folks...not nice not to share.......Hoople was very upset as was Der John and Fergie.
Well, Dick - then they are upset with the wrong people (and you really should get information sources that are accurate)! I really dislike Key Lime anything, let alone Key Lime pie. Now, if it had been butterscotch pudding pie with a graham cracker crust, then I'm your man for that! But Key Lime?
(No offense intended to Mark, Der John or Fergie, of course...)
Evening Gang: John called a bit ago and said that he had finished the baling. He counted 103 bales in the big field and 19 in the small field. We picked out alot of mesquite but we also missed a bunch. Alot of the hay is really good but the mesquite will be hard to sell. Now that is done maybe I can get onto some MRRing. Yea, right. Now we have to bale our fields here. It never seems to end.
JimCG: You haven't said anything about the club. How about an update?
My best to everyone and take care.
Good Night All
I devised a way to get rid of the heat developed by the motor and decoder in my Athearn GP50. I took the dynamic brake housing off the shell and used my Dremel tool to open up the top of the shell. I then cut the grills out of the sides of the dynamic brake housing. Now the top of the shell doesn't heat up after the loco has been running for a while.

Something sweet to cap off a long and productive day, Please & thank you!
***Jerry, not having a layout yet, perhaps I could try that...try pulling some paint off a wall with it!?!
***Paul, at least you have good hay TO bale. I'm a little worried about a lack of reserves around here (from this drought) when winter comes. Gulp!
***Jeffrey, what were the chances that loco would have melted without the alteration? Is this a newer model and if so, do they run hotter (with the decoders) than the vintage ones? Curious!
Lots accomplished here today. Time to wind down in front of the idiot tube. Rob

Good Evening, Chloe - I'd like a slice of butterscotch pie and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks!
gear-jammer wrote:Butterscotch?
Sure, Sue - after apple pie a la mode, it's my next favorite kind of pie (and way ahead of Key Lime... ). And since I have the TOTP honors, free pie for everyone. Chloe, make sure they make enough Key Lime for Der John, Fergie, and Mark, plus all the kinds that PC likes ( that many...).
We had a bad truck-train accident last night near Dexter, MO (south of here). A driver hauling cotton got his truck stalled on a rail crossing, and the UP train hit it head-on. Really bad accident, and they said there was a clear view both ways at that crossing, so it was needless. Sad.
Paul W. Beverung wrote:JimCG: You haven't said anything about the club. How about an update?
Thanks for reminding me, Paul. Tonight we had four designs that our main design guy (Kevin) had drawn up, and after all was said and done, we decided to drastically re-do the layout design, so that we would get a longer continuous run (about 200 feet), where we can follow our trains around without having to stop and without any duckunders or hidden track. We'll still be able to use all the benchwork, and we talked about soaking the turnouts in water to get the glue and ballast off of them (since the turnouts would be the most expensive to replace - Peco's). We talked about having some of the club members working on the new benchwork (we already had about 6-10' of benchwork that was ready to assemble, just needed to fasten the legs to it) while others strip off scenery and other stuff from the finished (or mostly) sections of the old layout. It'll take a while, but we're not looking at much in elevation changes (the design will be pretty much a flat table with scenery added on). We had a slight grade on the old layout and some said for that, we really needed helpers. Kevin's going to draw up more detailed plans, figuring on using the existing industry structures that we have - (actually, on the old layout we hadn't used all the structures we had.
And best wishes with your baling, Paul...
Rob, maybe now you can start on that layout. Powerful looking loco there - you could pull one of Paul's long ore car trains with that, and then some!
Well, I'm going to finish my pie (and maybe a second slice of it - love that butterscotch and the graham cracker crust!
Blessings on your evening (and the rest of the week),
Jeffrey, that certainly should do the trick.
While on the topic of motors, have you (or anyone else here) had any experience with Maxon coreless motors? If the right size is chosen, do you think they would make a suitable replacement (or upgrade?) motor for an older Rivarossi Bigboy? Would like to get the old beast running again. Any info will be appreciated.
Rob

Good evening everybody.
First, thanks for the thoughts and prayers from Sue and from Jim CG pertaining to Shelley's loss of her sister and all the matters she needs to handle with the estate.
Still keeping me busy too, but I hope to get more model railroading time again soon.
Dick,.... enjoy the trip. Since, you said you were going, I've enjoyed looking at our pix of the trip. I bet you are ready for the view from Stoney Creek Bridge.
Frozen Custard sounds good to me Duke or JimCG. We'll have to try the froazen custard pace near Duke next trip to Michigan.
Nice UP RR loco there, Rob!
I enjoy seeing Jeff's creativity. Opening up the dynamic brake for venting is an example.
Happy Model Railroading

Good morning ! from Indiana.

Bill Tidler Jr.
Near a cornfield in Indiana...
What is up with the weather in Central Indiana?
Today: mostly sunny & unseasonably warm - high: 82
Tonight: partly cloudy, scattered showers possible overnight - low: 64
And here's the kicker.......Mid to high 80's for the rest of the week! It's like late August around here! To top that off, we're almost 9" below our normal rainfall since May! I guess you can expect higher prices on anything that uses corn or soy beans this year as the crops are bound to be a bit small. I know the corn and beans around here turned brown a long time ago, and that usually doesn't happen until just before the harvest. Lots of farmers have begun harvesting early already for fear of losing all of their crop. Better a small crop then none at all!
Gotta go to the dentist this afternoon. Not looking forward to that!
Not much to report on the layout as I've been busy with work and school. (Note to self: Gotta fix that problem!)
Better get moving to work right now though.
Later!
Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee and one of Bill T.'s donuts, please. Thank you.
PC, we're having about the same kind of weather here, though they're playing with us, and saying some possibility (yeah, right) of a sprinkle here or there in the next day or two (but not very high percentage of that happening). Hope the dentist's trip for you today goes well (don't ya just love having your teeth cleaned? Not!)
pcarrell wrote:Not much to report on the layout as I've been busy with work and school. (Note to self: Gotta fix that problem!)
Uh, how do you fix the work and school problem, PC? I'd like a way for that myself...
Gotta get going for now - see everyone later!
Blessings and prayers,

Well, see, it's like this........I love school........and somethings got to give.......so.............
Really it's just a time management type of thing. The "honey do" list will be winding down with the weather turning (I love having a new house with no winter maintinance projects!), and I've already been making noise about a lack of hobby room time, so hopefully, those things combined will net me some quality layout time in the near future. Hopefully..........

FOR THE LAST TIME, I HATE PIE.
Ice cream is good though.
Besides that, so far this week is okay. We tied our soccer game, but it was due to an own-goal that was made by one of the members of the team most people already hate. I don't think he's ever going to get respect back, he knocked us from 1st in the division to 3rd. We play the guys in 1st this saturday... Let's hope it turns out okay.
Still planning my UP passenger train. Right after I get my big boy ordered, I can start saving for the passenger cars. Luckily, over half the ones I want are on sale. (That's mainly why I picked them...) Too bad they don't make a UP dome car. The train just won't be as cool without one.
Sue: Horizontal rain? Our rain is vertical... But right now, we got some wind storms coming through... Something tells me it's another year of snow days coming in winter. Oh and also, are you going to go to the Puyallup train show this year? I'll probably go. Another event that I want to go to is the 3rd ORHF winter special running of 4449 and 700. It's only rumors for now, but they've done it for the past two years...
Well, looks like I gotta run.
Mark
in a Southern mug, please & thank you!
***Jim, 200' of continuous run......Awesome!
***Jeffrey, thanks for the links. Would still like to hear from anyone who has had experience (good or bad) using them?
***Mark, can you find a suitable UP dome car in another brand (or used)? Is this what you are looking for?... Or are you looking for one of those "full dome" types? Good luck!
Well, critters are calling for me. Getting a late start on the feed rounds.
All for now. Rob
Hoople wrote:FOR THE LAST TIME, I HATE PIE.Ice cream is good though.
Sorry 'bout that, Mark - but I was going on the basis of Dick's (inaccurate?) information...
Rob, you don't want to keep the critters waiting. I have some friends with a dairy farm north of here, and they have told me about how their cattle get when they're late on feed or milking, either one.
Good Afternoon All
Well not much on the go as I headed out to sea on Friday and got the call from the Chief Engineer 3am Sunday Morning that we had to head home as the packing let go in one of the shafts. So after a 30 hr steam we made it home.
Not much on the MR front except I have 7 Semaphore signals enroute to me for installation on the MESS (Gotta Love those)
Dick: I'm hoping they cfan get the old girl running again so I can go out and play. And the weather right now is to die for! No forseeable Hurricanes at present! Darn, Darn, Darn!!!
Oh this is my baby

Hey Guys.
The Moss is comming along nicely. Patriots are 4-0 and I've reconfigured my main line to allow for a better yard setup. Speaking of which, I finally have a reason to do switching on my layout. I took my 2 freight stations (one plastic, one paper) put them side-by-side to have a long loading dock. I can now switch out my only 2 boxcars and have a reason to do so.
Oh and I also have a passenger track for my NYC streamlined coach and diner/coach and baggage car, while having enough room to store the flatcar and a boxcar.
Hey Fergie.... is your "baby" equipped with DCC and sound? I did not see if you completed the power shovel (Or what was it?) Good luck with signals.
Happy Model railroading, everybody!
Hoople wrote:Ice cream is good though.
There we go! Some common ground. I like ice cream too. Tell ya what, I'll concentrate on the pie, and you hit the ice cream. Deal?
Oh, and Fergie.....nice dingy!
