Here are pictures of the devastation wrought by the mower.

No weed patches left, except next to the trees. Those I don't care about. I just wanted to clear the walking areas out.

Hi Gang:

Zeke and Jenny I'm praying for you.

Daisy is home and doing well. We picked her up this morning and Mary Ann said she has been good so far. She did mess with her stitches a couple of times. I guess tonight we'll have to put the "Funnel" on her while we are sleeping.

Happy Birthday Jeff. Happy B-Day [bday] I hope that you have many more.

Not much else going on here. I went out to John's and helped him work on the road. It's really a job for some full blown road machines but that is way too expensive.

I'm going to cut out and get some water. I'm kind of thirsty from being out in the sun all day.

Good evening to all, I hope everyone had a nice Saturday....WHAT? Zoe, don't tell me there is no more BLUEBERRY PIE left???? Who? Fergie and Cape Jim ate it all...none for Rayn, Garry, Paul and I???  Ok guys this is WAR !!!

GARRY: You mentioned that ground squirrels are eating your blueberries, are those also called Chipmunks up north? I have a real tough time with birds, they can clean you out before you get up to pick them in the morning. I have deer netting all around the bushes which are in double rows 100 feet long. Then I have some thinner gauge netting over the top which I have to remove each Fall because the winter snows would destroy it. The sides stay up because they are heavier gauge netting and don't carry any snow load.

BOBK: Headed for Tucker's on Tuesday for the locos. The A-B-A has the A units powered. Bob is headed for Altoona next Thursday for a 3 day trip and to ride some trains. It is a thank you gift for running the Train Show each year at the Big E. He sure deserves it. When I get ready for any mods on the diesels, I will contact you, I have mostly steamers, this is my first excursion into Diesels. I know very little about them.

RT: That is so sad about Zeke....the poor guy. We certainly have him and Jenny in our prayers for as long as it takes. Tell Zeke to keep his hand on the throttle.

PAUL: WHAT??? Your thirsty???? With all that water down there in Texas??? Do you have your own little island of sunshine where you are?

JEFF: Cut those weeds Jeff!!  Hey with all those pine trees, it is no wonder that I could not see your trailer with the satellite view on MS's Virtual Earth.

MIKE: How's the garden doing? You must have some red tomatoes by now.

SUE: Ya, I have a few tools, I like to do as much of my own repairs as I feel able to do. Some jobs are just too risky to do if you screw-up it will cost much more to correct, so I leave those to the pros, especially if you need specialized equipment to perform the repairs or mod.

Last night about 11pm, someone had some leftover fireworks in the neighborhood, and they set off a Bulldog or two, and several Cherry Bombs. I thought I would come out of my chair. It was dead quiet until these went off.

Grayfox: I've been trying, without success, to get someone to come out and thin the trees out a bit. They come out, take one look and leave. The property is triangular with roads and power lines on two sides. There's a mobile home on the remaining side. They've all said that it's too tight and nothing can be done. In short, impossible! I say that the person who says something is impossible is always proven wrong by the person who just did it.

Good Evening All,

I was hoping Zeke would make it home ok, but worried about the tumor which they hadn't done anything with. I pray it works out ok he and Jenny have really been through enough for now.

Happy Birthday Jeff - hope you had a goodun.

Getting ready to do some building construction after cleaning up a bit if I still feel ambitious enough. We had the full crew in the shop today trying to catch up so they can leave this Weds for Mt Tremblant. This years schedule is really taxing with one event after another and little time to catch up with big items.I guess it's better than not enough to do.  CUL, Smile [:)]J.R.

Boy the place is deserted. Where is everyone? I see that dick was in for a minute. I guess if I had checked page 240 I'd see Jeff and JR.

Well Daisy is not happy right now. We put the "funnel" on her so she wouldn't mess with her stitches. She's asleep on a pile of my clothes.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Hello everybody....

Of course we are all praying for Zeke's recovery.

Jeff........working outside with a birthday?  ....working on the alyout or a KCS locomotive would most likely be nicer...........  but outside work...........oh....Jeff..

Dick...please save a piece of my very favorite pie......blueberry.... these other moochers don't really need it.......  Ground squirrels are basically chipmunks, but now I think deer are the guilty ones that ate the blueberries here. Small animals keep away from Charles and Camilla. C&C are a pair of mega-sized black snakes who petrol the property.  They leave us alone and we leave them alone. C&C are very adept at keeping critters away.  Other snakes stay away, too, including rattle snakes. So, we're glad C&C are here.

Anybody getting much mrr'ing accomplished this weekend?

I gotta do it some time. This is the first dry day I've had in a week and a half. No sense in not making use of it. Besides, I got several structures sprayed down with Matte-Finish while I was working and I worked on a loco while I was taking a break.

Just a quick stop this evening, Janie - cup of mocha in a go cup will do me for now - thanks!

Jeff, how bad did the weeds look before the mower got to them? Looks like you did a good job of clearing out whatever was there. How long did that take to get it all cleared like that?

Paul, bet you're glad to have Daisy back. Does she sleep okay with the 'funnel' over her stiches? I take it that you've had her to the vet's before and gone through this.

Hey, Dick - I didn't have any of the blackberry pie. I like mine over vanilla ice cream, not in a pie. So it must have been Fergie or someone else that got into the rest of the pies. Heck, you should be able to get here early enough to grab you a slice - you're one of those ORF's, right? Wink [;)] On the ground squirrels/chipmunk problem that you've been having, my parents (years ago when they lived in suburban south St. Louis County) had some tree squirrels (grey ones, I think) that would scamper down the tree trunk, steal one of their tomatoes off the bush, haul it back up to a branch and take a bite out of the tomato. To add insult to injury, the squirrels then would toss the tomato down(!).Sigh [sigh]Thumbs Down [tdn] Dad was about to go buy some of those 'blue peanuts' for the squirrels at one point (but Mom talked him out of it). So, ground or tree squirrels, they do have a taste for 'maters! Shock [:O]

Got the KD's and springs re-assembled today (with the help of our LHS owner/MRR club member), and put some more KD's on another half dozen cars (boxcars and flat cars). I need to start on some of my engines next - think I only have one or two that have KD's (or similar) on them now. So after running trains tomorrow afternoon with the other club members, I may start on an engine or two, or else see about those remaining hopper cars to be put together.

Sorry to hear about Zeke's setback, and will add mine to the rest of the prayers (for Zeke, Jenny, and for the doctors to quickly locate the problem and fix it).

Time for me to head off to bed. See you all tomorrow (possibly after church and running trains)!

Blessings, and continuing prayers for Zeke and Jenny and the doctors,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

The weeds were about knee-high at the highest and the bushes were around 2 - 3 feet high. It took about 2 hours to mow it all down with the tractor.

I'M BACK

Missed you chief, I really did. I missed all of you and wow I had no idea thier would be so many folks that cared. You guys and gals are so wonderful. I thought about all of you constantly. And well I am home just released tonight about an hr ago I couldnt wait to get on the computer to write you all. I was on my way home yesterday or day before i can recall, kinda all blurry. But i had a little problem yesterday and I am fixed, Um  i think. I was leaking brain fluid and well it really freak jenny out. And the dr rushed me in and assesed me i went unconcious and i woke up and i felt better. Something to do with the tumor, which is gonna be removed in a cpl weeks when my chest heals up which feels alot better too. They told me the details but its not coming to me right now and poor jenny is sleepin, shes been an angel and been threw alot with me. Great gal. So i thought my breastbone had been cracked but wasnt, i was just cut threw, which is better and alot faster recovery. Thank god for that one. So the pace maker was a success and i am feeling so much better its really nice.Cant wait for the tumor to be out of me. Which i was told was a 1-3 day hospital stay. That music to my ears cuz i will tell you the food sucks and i got all the older nurses, they were really nice but  oh nvm......... So i am home taking it super easy. Have a 2lb wieght limit which is rough cuz 2 lbs isnt much. I have been poked and stabbed and i had enough. Turns out i am now hypoglacemiac ( spell?) So i have to poke my self and draw blood every so often. No biggie. But I feel so much better today, they wanted to let me go like 5 hrs ago but theres a certain thing you have to do before they consider letting you go and i couldnt do it for along time. but i am home now,   thank god. Cost me alot to be in the hospital, not the hosiptal it self but jenny's cab rides here everyday and food and she hired a pet sitter my meds, and blah blah blah, 750 bucks out the window real fast.

But i missed all of you and i thank you for your support, I guess they told jenny i wasnt gonna make it threw the night of the 6th. I lost alot of blood and some other fluids that are essintail to living. But guys like i told her im a survivor and im to dang stubborn to die. Besides who'd run my trains?Wink [;)]

Sure is glad to be back n my own home, it never smelt or looked better i have to admit. Well i  am gonna get off here and will catch you guys later tomorrow. Thanks for caring !

This is an awesome family and i am so glad to belong here!

 Oh boy!!! were to being?

My Mom, Dad, Brother ad me head off from Lewiston on Interstate 90 west. Woster, Mass has a railyard, and and few other towns along the way.

Iroquois, New York. CSX mainline from Albany to Buffalo. 2 trains in one sighting, one had CSX locos towning Boxcars, the other had Union Pacific locos with a mixed freight. I was not able to see what kind they were or get a shot of them. A while later not too far from the Hermire-Mohawk rest stop, there was another CSX train hauling boxcars.

Then a MOJOR traffic accident. Traffic was backed up from about 2 miles. 2 cars were involved one car was literally pancaked. the roof was smashed down. I'm noty sure if anyone was killed or not. The other car was on a flatbed tow-truck up side down, with no drive shaft or wheels plus the undercarage. It was 5:50pm Sunday, when we passed it.

on the 1st 2nd and 3rd nights in Niagra Fall there were Fireworks. while there we did the Ripliy's Believe it or not Muesum, mini Golf, The Bird and Butterfly conservatorys, Maid of the Mist and the journy behied the falls, and the Imax Thearter, and Marineland which is were the Killer whale was taken, I got to feed a Bluga Whale and toutch it, The bluga whale feels like wet rubber, not pencil or tire rubber Wickad nice.

And I meet a Conductor for the Canadian Pacific while waiting in line for the worlds longest steel rollorcoaster whcih goes upside down 4 times

Here are but a hand full of pics I got loaded from the trip.

do you think there is a Great Railroad Sprit, that helps the men and women working on the railroads. Like in the locomotives and railyards safe?

It has been about 15 years sinse I last visited part of the Tacoma yards. Really enjoyed watching. Had my sister with me one day and a friendly engineer was going to let us into his switcher for a look-see, but before we could do so, some security dude showed up and said we would need permission from...bla bla bla, then escorted us off the property. Although I understand entirely he was doing his job, sure missed not seeing inside that cab.  Cowboy [C):-)] Rob ps: that sister collects HO, rides railfan steam trains every chance she gets and is as nutty about trains as I am.

Zeke I'm so happy to hear that you'r home and doing better I am almost crying. You've been on my mind all day. Take care of yourself and take care of Jenny. She's all right.

Daisy didn't like the "Funnel" but is getting used to it. It is on her neck and keeps her from messing with the stitches. We take it off when she goes out and we are with her. It's on when we are out or sleeping or not able to watch her.

I spent the afternoon out at John's ranch working on the road. John pulled my dump trailer with his 4x4 truck and we really moved alot of gravel. There were 3 of us again and that worked out very well. Michael loaded and ran the pit, John hauled and I spread and leveled. Tomorrow I'm going to act more like a ORF. I may even work on raising the layout. I've only been saying that for 2 years now.

Cederstrand. Nice looking horse there. Is it yours?

Well I'm ready for bed. Mary Ann and Daisy are already there so I'm on the way.

***Paul, thanks! Her name is Twister and she's one a keeper. When she was only days old, she would follow Barbara and I down to the creek and play in the water. Her mother "Sandy" would be calling for her and little Twister could have cared less. She is quite independent, fearless, and enjoys playing with anything that has a running motor and moving parts. Heck, anything not tied down is just another toy to her. Very athletic, too. Sandy is now half blind and seeing ghosts.

Good evening, I hope everyone had a nice Sunday........we went to the nearby lake and enjoyed the day at our friend's house, cooler there on the water for sure.

ZEKE: Very much relieved to hear that you have kept your hand on the throttle Mr. Engineer.

COLBY: Great photos, Mike will be proud of your work. BTW, "Wooster" Ma????  Do you mean "Worcester" Ma?? If so, as you travelled west on I-90, you passed through my town and about 2 miles south of me.

JEFF: Do you have black ants down there where your trailer is? If so, watch out for those pine trees. They eat the inside core out, the tree looks healthy, then one day "crash" the tree falls. It happened to my neighbor, the tree was all green, no indication of trouble at all. The tree snapped at the base, and there must have been 10 million black ants. The tree crashed onto the house, knocked down the chimney and did some damage to the roof and rafters. I imagine if it hit your trailer roof, things could get nasty real fast.

JIM: Yup, even though I am ORF, I sleep later in the morning, as you notice from this email time stamp, it is after 11:30 EDST, and I am still up and moving, need the 8 hours sometime. Fergie is 1 hour before me, so he gets to the Diner 1st and cleans up the pie.

Tomorrow's agenda calls for me to take the Explorer to the Ford dealer for the 50K maintenance. Then we head off to Circuit City, they have a big sale on SD cards that need for the DSLR. Hopefully they have some of the newer Sandisk Extreme III 2 gb cards on sale. Need them for the photo railfan trip to North Conway this Friday......the 0-6-0 steamer will be pulling passenger cars along the 2.6% grade through Crawford Notch, NH. I hope to car chase and get good shots at every one of the locations that I feel are great scenes.

Good night to all,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! JEFF: Do you have black ants down there where your trailer is? If so, watch out for those pine trees. They eat the inside core out, the tree looks healthy, then one day "crash" the tree falls. We used to have a big problem with those big black ants here. The forestry service started an extermination campaign on them back in the 70's and now it's a very rare thing to find any.
