Kinda quiet in here tonight.

Hey Chloe, any pie left over in the refrigerated display case?

Yum! Thanks for the warmed apple pie a la mode!

I started work on my Stewart Industries HO Yard Servicing Facility Work Pit. I filed down the metal castings first to get them cleaned them up a bit. Then I cemented the metal casting sides with Goo and now they are drying in my magnetic gluing jig. I have six of these kits that will eventually make it into the bottom foundation of my 6-stall roundhouse.

Gotta go! Chloe.....keep the change!

You must be refering to the Ford version of the Cyclone. Were not many produced, went like heck in a straight line. Braking , handling non existant. Even the reinforced unibody cried from the torque. Gee, may be a version of the early Shelby big block 427 tunnel port.

Evening Gang: We spent most of the day chasing around looking at new and used trucks with our son John. His old Chevy is giving him lots of problems and he's looking to replace it with some thing more reliable.

We took Daisy the Dog into the vet this morning for her surgery. I checked on her late this afternoon and she was doing fine. We will pick her up tomorrow morning and bring her home. We do miss her.

We are both tired so it's off to bed.

I woke up around 5am and couldn't sleep so went to the basement and cleaned up the layout a bit and put away tools. I'm finally going to get at raising the layout. I figure I can put pieces of 1x4 under each leg and the cases that are under parts of the layout. I need to raise it 6 inches so it will take lots of pieces. Fortunately I have them in abundance.

Good Night All

Good evening, Chloe - I'll go easy on young Hoople's budget since he's saving up for that engine. Just a decaf coffee for me, please.

My most often used tool would be the measuring tape.  We have one in every room of the house, every car, on the tractor, and in the barn.  I even have a 300 ft tape.  That is a lot of measuring tapes.

So, Sue, we could say that you "measure up"? Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Oh, and Dick, I'm more like 'egging Garry OFF' - we don't know exactly what kind of a scrapper Sue might be with a pair of pliers (if she had 'em in hand...)

Ryan, looks like you made an excellent choice of birthday gift for Ben, Cool [8D] and that he was quite pleased with it. Now, so long as Dad doesn't hog the birthday boy's telescope... Wink [;)] Hope you guys get a little rain before too much longer. Maybe you should ask Paul or Jeff to ship you some over, possibly send a few clouds in a gondola for you.

Saw this company's stuff while I was looking at an item on eBay earlier tonight (Paper Creek Models):

http://www.papercreek.com/

Looks like they make pretty nice shingles and metal roofing, and they have a free outhouse plan that you can print out on heavy paper stock and assemble (in various scales) - downloadable PDF file. Here's their pic of their shingles (off their home page):

For those of us wanting to model a decrepit, falling-down-state-of-disrepair building, their stuff looks pretty useful. Check it out if you like.

Well, I'd better get going for now. Chloe, keep those pies hidden so even Fergie can't find them. (shhhh... Blindfold [X-)])

This is yet another 4th of July home display gone terribly bad.

Sadly enough that happened in our neck of the woods.  They are a couple of miles north of Littlerock and we are a couple of miles east.  There seems to be a rash of injuries to children in our area from fireworks.  That will lead to banning them I suspect.  There are already many areas that fireworks are illegal.

Good morning all. Yes it is morning over here... 12:01.
Anyway, I'll have some milk Floe.
Sue: Fireworks are illegal up here, yet in my street there was a gang of kids (6-15) firing them off in the street. They even had some illegal-anywhere bottle rockets. And they were unsupervised. Smart parents...
I always go to my gramma's in the country to fire off fireworks, and I don't touch them. My dad does the launching.
Looks like my mom and dad are going down to Oregon today for a wedding... Sadly dad apointed my sister in charge, so no extra revenue for the big boy. I guess I'll be washing lots of cars, doing yardwork, mowing lawns, ect. for awhile. I've got like $150 to go.  Let's hope I can pull it off... I calculated that I need $25 a week, and $10 is covered by allowance. $15 a week extra... Not too hard.
Well I'll go babble to myself over in the back booth.

Happy birthday  JEFF !!!!!!!!!!!Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday]Smile [:)] !!!! I see that PC has dropped off the BD gift in the Diner..... I think you should treat yourself at your LHS today Jeff, spend some time there and pick up a few bargains for your BD. Maybe he will give you 20% off MSRP for your BD !!!!

Cloudy here this morning, but clearing is due later as well as the return of heat and humidity.

SUE: Massachusetts banned the sale and use of fireworks when I was 12 years old, that would be back in 1951. Connecticut sells fireworks, but you cannot use them there, and New Hampshire sells them AND you can fire them off. ( Live free or die state moto ). So people just go across the state lines, buy them, and bring them back. Occasionally we have an accident here, always kids getting hurt by not being supervised properly. Some adults are not the sharpest tools in the tool shed, being 10 cards short of a full deck, so kids suffer.

OzJim, that's good mileage (or would that be kilometrage? Wink [;)] ) - I think the figures you gave work out in U.S. measurements to 20+ mpg highway and over 18 mpg city, which for that size car and 17 years old, is definitely okay. Sound system sounds like you could really irritate the Censored [censored] out of the neighbors, too. Careful on the stereo, if you're near home. Wink [;)]

Yay - Happy B-Day [bday], Jeff - PC searched hard to find you that very special lump of coal from us. Anything special planned for your birthday? Hope it's a fun day for you.

Whew - TOP - glad you're covering this page too, Jeff. Thanks again! Smile [:)]

Not a lot planned for my day. Laundry, trip by the bank (need to get a money order for sending off), stop by our LHS owner/MRR club member (parts and some help getting those Censored [censored] little springs back into some KD couplers that I have). Then this afternoon I'll probably work on my remaining Accurail hoppers, and putting KD's on some more cars (flats and boxcars), and picking out which loco I want to take for our trains-running tomorrow afternoon (another MRR club member's layout).

Hope everyone has a fun and productive weekend (with some MRR'ing in it, of course). Smile [:)]

Good morning.

DICK! ! ! !.................. could you pick me up at Logan?  I LOVE blueberries!!!! We have blueberries planted here and the ground squirrels enjoy them .  Blackberries are doing okay, though; they grow wild next to the road.

Jeff... Happy birthday, youngster!

Ryan ... I'll be interested in your progress in the train room and with the loco servicing faccility.

James.......... nice car... glad you have a Ford!!!!.  too many people here drive Japanese makes.  Then they expect politicians to solve problems they contributed too. We drive US brands in our household.  It's really hard to get a good model train made in USA anymore.

Hoople...... it's refreshing to me to see a young person saving money for what he wants.  You should be encouraged to save.  Beats the dummies who buy on credit. Also, reminds me of when I was  teen saving my money to buy (yep, you guessed it) trains. I stiill have some of those trains. I could post a pix of some of my oldies if you're interested. ALso, I hope senior memebers of your family encourage you to build long term savings accounts for future non-train needs. you must be quite the young man.

Paul ........... Daisey okay now.  I hope so!

Luc.... thanks for the TH coffee yesterday!

Sue .......  Perhaps, it's in Larry's best interested regarding your not using pliers. Dick started all that stuff with the tools unlike some waht was said by the &^*** guys (Jim!) here blaming innocent me! Sad to learn of the 8 year old. None of us knows when our number will be up. I'm interested in seeing Larry's NP museum photos.

Brandon..... thanks for the remarks about KY Ry Museum.  The E6 was not in sight. With family there, I had little time to talk with museum guys about what's going on. Glad you liked the 4-6-2 pix. The CF7 is becoming a rarity as BNSF of course does not paint its engines in those colors. The ATSF engine has no historic signifocance to KY but it's worth seeing.   Kids complained there were no clwns onboard as was the case last year. SO, now any future family get-togethers at KRM are in doubt. Kids!

Happy Model Railroading

Happy Birthday Jeff Party! Party! Party!

I don't think that it is right that you pay on your birthday, so I will pick up your tab. Is there something special that you would like?  Huckleberry Cheesecake?  Huckleberry pancakes? Chompy

Mark,  Glad to hear that you are sensible with fireworks.  We used to shoot them out over the water on Puget Sound, but it gets harder and harder to stay awake until dark.  The thrill just is not there any more.

Dick, Garry, & Jim,  You Tool Time Guys seem to be having way too much fun with hardware.  Please be careful.

Dick,  Around here, the good fireworks are sold on the reservations.  The sheriff waits for unsuspecting purchasers to leave the res and pulls them over for having illegal fireworks in there possession.  What a trap.

Well, Larry has pancakes cooking so I had better go.  Later.

Good morning all,

It's turning out to be a nice day here south of Boston. Was supposed to go out fishing today out in Boston Harbor, but my youngest daughter will be stopping by this afternoon before the Spartans (Drum and Bugle Corps) hits the road for their tour. The tour will end up in Pasadena, CA for the finals. At least some of my family in CA will be able to see her there.

There's always time to do the fishing thing, but I won't see April Lynn for 5 weeks after today.

Guess I'll just hang around the house, errands and yard work to do anyway.

James: I didn't even know that Ford brought the Falcon back, very nice ride. Back when I was doing the Chevelle SS's and building VW dune buggies a friend had a falcon small block 289 and a Cyclone 427 tunnel port. What screamers they were. They were not streetable only trailered to the drags.

Dick: A such a great way to "have" to go to Tucker's. I imagine lunch will be at our favorite spot. The ABA for that $$ is quite the deal. They're not all powered though are they? If not I know that Bob can hook you up with the powered chassis for about $45-50 ea. Stewarts are great runners and decent detail and paint. Of course The Genesis Highliner shell and IM have better detail and already done. All my Stewarts are detailed w/ the DA DK701 (A) and DK 702 (B). I find that the Kadee #450 coupler conversion is awesome and the close coupling (3ft) option is great if your radius allows. The operating American LTD operating diaphams also work perfectly w/ the Kadee spacing, the diaphram faces actually touch @ 3ft spacing. Some added grabs such as nose ladder and anyrear drop step grabs are extra and not in the sets.            I'm presently in the process of detailing 6 WM Circus Stewart Fs. I don't mind adding the details but to do 6 at a time is almost too much. Still have one B and finishes to the A's. WM used 2/ 5 chimes and I have to repaint the roof and add the cooling coils to the appropriate units. These were a special run in conjuction w/ WMHS and Bessimer Hobbies- actually the last run from Steve Stewart before the sale to Bowser.

I thought the crazy storms would have it your area, got lick I guess. Had only a quick passing thunder shower here.

Need to run to do errands, catch up later

Hello bobk....

I really like the B&O units.  When I was young we traveld by train pre-Amtrak. I recall riding the B&O's Capital Limited and seeing freight trains with units like yours in your pictures. The Capital Limited had a neat dome car (I rode in it) with spot lights to shine on scenery as it made its overnight trip between Chicago and Washington, DC.

Bye for now

Garry,  I am having trouble keeping up with the playful bantering.

We are having trouble downloading the NP museum photos from the phone.  It seems to want expensive software.  Does anyone know if we purchase a memory card if that will eliminate the software need?  I was hoping that photoshop would let us download the photos.

I've never seen a 427 Falcon, but the Cyclone was a Comet chassis the same as the Falcon. So the 427 option built for racing could be a possibility. There were many more '64-5 427 Fairlanes though. I don't remember when the tunnel port 427 was discontinued in production. This early unibody chassis led to the advent of the Mustang- and the rest is history.

A machinist friend of mine was determined to have the tunnel port outperform the big block Chevys and the 440/ 426 hemi. He designed and altered intakes, flow benched and reworked the casting again. He worked at this for many years as he raced his Fairlane around 1970-71. The only other decent Ford contender was the 429. They really gained popularity from the Torino Cobra and the GTA Mustang. Now all along Shelby had run the GT350 small block and GT500 big block.

His all out race 427 still couldn't compete w/ even some of the so-so streetable versions of the L88 427 and the LS6 454 as I had. I believe the greatest problem was overall traction, would wheel spin and not hook up good no matter what was done to the suspension. Some of the Chevy big blocks were already under 10 sec 1/4 mile. My Chevelle although street (mild) still did 12.2 best with slicks, 13.0 with street tires. Quite the wild ride out of the showroom. Don't even need to talk about the 426 hemi, different class of it's own.

GARRY:  Sure wish I had a chance to ride the Capital or National Limited, then when they were pulled with the Es and F units. Riding the dome car must have been quite the experience of a lifetime you'll always remember.

Good Morning all.
Yes I am in a bit late-Just woke up. Note the fact I was up until 2 watching mythbusters...
Well I'll have some pan-oh look its noon. The usual then chloe.
Ah, it's Jeff's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEFF! (I would put up a happy smiley thing, but my computer is well, old, and glitched...)
Sue: We usually start around 7 with sparklers and worms, and work our way up. Around 8 we go in for ice cream (one of the few times of year I get it, but I'm fine with that), then come back out.
Garry: Thanks. Yes, I do save for the things I want... I saved for my Zephyr, I saved for my Consolidation, and I'm saving for my big boy. Ever since my dad brought back allowance at $10 a week, things have been going a bit easier.
Jeeze guys, how did we manage to bang out half a page in 5 hours! Productive morning!
Well I'll stick around, looks like my chicken is here.

I just finished cutting the grass. That's the first time it's been done this year, and will probably be the last. Now, before you start thinking that I must let it get up to five or six feet, I don't. Most of my yard is covered in trees. One hundred and sixty-five of them on a half acre, half of them are pines, so there's not much grass. BTW, five of those pines are red pines (turpentine). And what grass there is doesn't grow real high, maybe one and a half feet at most, and that's after six or seven months. So when I cut the 'grass' it's mostly weed patches and bushes. My neighbor likes the little wild flowers that grow here. He can do what he wants with the ones in his yard. If they're on my side of the property line, they get mowed down. As far as I'm concerned, they're weeds.
