Howdy all how's it goin'?

Been so busy but have managed to pop in and read the posts.

Bob K.- I'm so glad to hear/see you are to this point. The tears of missing April will turn to smiles and tears of rememberance as the time passes. When I remember My loved ones who impacted my life its with that soft smile and always I tear up. Hang in there and talk as much as you like cause then She will impact our lives as well. My Grandpa once said"Sounds like good people. Yup, She's good people!"

Nine more days til I go to Kansas and watch my daughter at her 8th grade recognition. We talk almost every day and she ALWAYS tells me how many days are left til I'm there. Big change from a couple of years ago.

OOOPPPS, Momma's call'n for supper!

Prayers to all and the Blesings of the LORD as well.

Ryan:

Der, Say what?
…well, Ed was like
So the bad news is that there won't be much in the way of fresh fruit or juice shipped to The Coffee Shop until the fall.
and you were like
Okay, I guess the frozen orange juice will have to just do for now! We just have to make sure that Chloe and Flo keep the freezers running and that the back up generator is fixed too!
…so I knew you were a man who takes his orange juice seriously, so I was like
Ed: OK, Frozen Concentrate it is then, but from the sound of things, Ryan will want double esters added back!
because those esters get evaporated off the juice first when it’s concentrated, and for higher end juices, they are added back to give the juice a more natural taste. At least that was the situation when I was dealing with frozen orange juice out of Florida and Brazil in the late 60s. (Dealing is a bit of a come on. The boss did the dealing, my job was to sell the stuff to food processors around southern Ontario.) The technology has perhaps changed two or three times since then!

Sue: Thanks for all the fence info.

If this totally confuses the answer, I will try to get some photos
…not totally! It sounds like what you’ve got is more of a corral. I’ll be working on fencing a pasture. The fence posts used around here for these seem to me to be round posts about 5-6 inches thick. Sounds like I should go for the 8’ spacing. Selective compression for the # of strands of wire would make 5 into 3 in my case (N) otherwise it will look too crowded.

Mike: You were thinking of using hair for fence wire too? From that test model I did, I’d find a brunette next time, the blonde hair is just too hard to see.

Colby:

well not much going on but school.
…if you don’t want to type the dreaded word, maybe you could put in one or more of these….

Dick: The snow should stay in New Brunswick, but we will be cold and rainy for the next 48 hours or so.

I hear that you are now using empty toilet paper rolls for smoke stacks on your buildings...neat idea!!! ( Fergie told me that )
…wrong scale, some of my buildings could fit inside a toilet roll! I have however used paper towel tubes for mock-up grain silos…and the mid level foam board is supported on sections of hard card tubes from some paper product or other, can’t remember what it was now, but it’s good and strong.

Trent: Good to see you again! Glad that things are looking up with your daughter, what a relief that must be for you.Angel [angel]

Fergie, thanks for the news of Teffie.

Got to go, so Goodnight all, an d God Bless, Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Jim, looks like you have milked the laptop for all it's worth. I still run a laptop with W2K and it is 7 years old now. On its last leg, I keep running defrag, delete my temp Internet files. Maybe you should just format the hard drive and reinstall a fresh OS image on it! Sometimes that fixes it!

Yea Jim and Garry, Cape G is only 761 miles and 12.5 hours away. Gotta be some good custard!

Actually, Ryan, that laptop has had two newer OS installs, and is the third hard drive I've put into that laptop (started with Mac OS 9.2.2 on a 10 GB drive, went through a 20 GB and the current is a 60 GB drive (and it's had Mac OS X - 10.2 and now up to 10.3.9). I've reformatted and reinstalled multiple times as needed (not that often) on each drive. Problem is, I suspect the problem isn't in the drive, since it works fine in an external case hooked up via Firewire (IEEE 1394 for you Windows techies) to my desktop PowerMac. The problem, I think, is in possibly the wiring to/from the LCD screen and/or connecting to the logic board (motherboard). So it's a matter of tracking down where the difficulty is, and deciding whether I want to put the money into replacing the offending parts for a few more years, or saving up for a faster PowerBook (G4 vs. G3, 1.5 GHz vs. 400 MHz). Need to send off that email to my Mac place tonight...

...and just email me if you're coming this way, Ryan, so I can lead you to the custard (but I can't make you eat it, huh?).Wink [;)]

Some good food you all have been serving today - loved the look of those muffins and - would I call that a Philly cheeseburger?

Sounds like Fergie's been as busy in the garden as Jeff has in the woodshop! Jeff, good thing you were inside the trailer and not outside! And Trent, good to see you in again - have fun seeing your 'little girl' graduate! David, welcome back to Louisiana-land. Hope you have a fun (and productive MRR'ing) summer. Thumbs Up [tup]

Well, need to finish up for now. Want to just sit a spell before it's bedtime for me. Today was fairly busy at wCensored [censored]k, but not bad. Still frustrated with the Windows POC in my office - called our alpha geek and asked him what could be done to help it. He chuckled and basically told me "not much - it's a dinosaur." I think he and I are in agreement about that.

Uh, Der, what's that last photo? Confused [%-)] Oh... (No cats were harmed in the staging of that photo, I understand...)

The storm front moved through this afternoon/evening, without much fuss here in town. Some places around had some wind damage, but no tornadoes that I heard about. (whew!) Thank the good LORD for that.

Everyone get a good night's rest and prayers for all of you, especially those missing dear ones.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

So what a day, just worked right through lunch. Lost a few hours on the truck repair. Had the control arm with a new ball joint installed but turned out to be the wrong part from the junkyard. The last step was to bolt the strut, the holes wouldn't line up. Called the dealer, found that there was a mid year change to the strut. Found one and started all over again. Now with all new parts, shocks and a brake job the truck drives great even without the alignment . That is scheduled for tomorrow.

I'm  in fairly good shape for the work I usually do, but this crawling around the driveway wrenching on truck suspension parts has kicked my a** today. But it works perfectly and I'm happy. Boy, I need to stick to trains and wood.

Ryan: Once I finished that truck, I wasted no time grabbing a couple cold ones too.

Jim: It was me that said that you could get the 3-4 engines for the $ of the Ibook. It sounds like the computer has a higher priority than trains.

Jerry: Hope the test goes OK for Sallie.

Jeff: Good thing that the trailer is well grounded, You may have had to post on the "hot model railroad" thread.

 Trent: Congrats to your daughter.

The tears seem to be getting fewer and fewer as time goes by. Each day seems to be a bit easier, but I know that there are going to be so many times that a thought, a song, a place may just trigger the sadness. Today as I drove to get some parts, I had to pass the medical facility where April spent her last 13 months receiving her Chemo and treatment. I needed to pull over for a minute for the tears to pass. Lately I have been thinking of her and even if it brings a tear, I feel happy and rejoice for the good memories. The first few days that I started to feel this way I almost felt guilt for what I thought was starting  to loose feelings. I found that I was just going numb after days of feeling so horribly sad. If it is a trend, I do want it to continue. The deep pain and heartache was almost all I could bear. I hope that I am past that, I couldn't take it any longer. Now I find myself talking to her often and it gives me peace.

I still haven't done much with trains. I know the scenery at the club is waiting for me. I hope that I can get back into it shortly, other members at least need me there to work on projects.

Still no word from Michael. I'm going to send him an email.

Keep the prayers coming, it helps.

Evening Gang:

Cheese: You might want to think about changing your forum name. I've been listening to a report on the "new" heroin called cheese. That stuff is real bad. The problem is that even a little can be deadly. There have been 3 deaths in the Dallas Ft.Worth area in the last couple of months. According to the police the name is to make the kids think that it is something that will not hurt them.

I finished the pad for the container. tomorrow we have to get the people that sell the things to come out and see if they can get into the location. Kind of sounds like putting the cart before the horse. I figure that it can be done without a problem. If not I can get a building put up there. I'd rather go that route any way but Mary Ann wants the container.

BobK: Let us know if you are able to contact Micheal.

Time to head for bed.

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye.

First order of business today will be laying out the new cut pieces for 5 desks for staining. Also the already stained pieces for 6 others will be going through the poly booth and will have to be lightly sanded when they come out. All in all, it's going to be a busy day. After work I'll be going to the computer repair to pick up a new main board for my parents computer. A PC Chips board with a 3600+ AMD processor. It's getting hard to find boards with IDE ports these days. Everythings going over to Seta. Guess who gets to install the thing. They won't pay a tech to do it and neither of them know how to do it, so that only leaves one person. Like the line from the old song 'Charlie Brown' goes "Why does everybody keep pickin' on me?".

Good Morning All,

A regular and a donut please Zoe. 67F at 7am but it may be the high for the day. We're scheduled for thunderstorms later with it clearing overnight. the air is still just now and slightly humid, but there was a great fresh breeze when i first arose this morning.

No MRR work again and no museum last night. Went home and went to sleep early. These 12 hour days one after the other can kic your butt. Doctors appointment did go ok. BP is back to acceptable though he wants me to go to a kidney specialist to see if there are any issues there. So it goes.

With Cheese, Sue and Der moving ahead with their layouts I'll need to play catch up soon. One reason I haven't done much is the factory area and the proliferation of roads and track which was getting far too busy. I have decided to bring a turnout and siding head from another direction into the factories and lose the switch in the middle of the pavement. Just got too busy and this way I can gain a bit of room for more structures between the street level and elevated track. One of the issues on space is I keep seeing Bridgeport where there is a road each side of the elevated track, but in many urban areas some of the buildings seem to back right up to the railroad right of way. Next time I go to Milford it's time to take a side trip to Wampus Lane and refresh my memory (and maybe some pics this time?). It's down the street from where I grew up and has factories and businesses trackside still.

Time to get back to it. Hope you have a good time at the Grad ceremony Trent and good to see Bob got out from under his truck (of course there was a mid year change - you mean you didn't plan on that?). Two more cars to finish up and another trailer to load before we leave tomorrow afternoon - oh yeah and a backhoe to get running.    CUL, J.R.

Morning!

Coffee please!

Thanks!

Bill, thanks for the daily supply of the fried dough circles....err...donuts!

Hey Der, I thought my Aunt Ester was concocting some sort of scheme or something! You really know your juice there, I had no clue about that sort of thing, and so now I will be looking for my esters!

BTW, cute kitty in the corner pocket!

Jim, now I remember, you have the MAC OS, which I know nothing about! Motherboard might be the issue as you said, and being that old most likely not worth replacing, spend the same $$ on a new one. Not sure when we will be heading to the "Show Me State" but thanks for the invite!

Bob K., yea, a few cold ones are great after a hard day at work. But, please use water or a rated fire extinguisher the next time you are putting out fires, beer is for drinking! The prayers are still with you every day! Angel [angel]

I'll have the same as Jeff with more strawberries and whipped cream. Yesterday I started to lay an industrial siding and I plan on finishing it today. I can't wait until the next trip to one of our not so local lhs's and I'll have to remember to bring ten bucks when I go to try one of them athearn kits to see if I like them enough to buy 17 more.

Good afternoon everyone, very warm and humid today, and now the Weather Channel has issued a Tornado watch until 6pm tonight, ohh joy !!! There is a wild front coming east from NY state, with a long line of TS reaching all the northeastward to Maine, so I guess I had better hurry up and get the outside work done pronto.

FERGIE: Somehow, I just can't seem to grasp you dancing through the tulips with a ukaleli singing " tiptoe, through the tulips...." Now there was a tourist add here on TV last night for Nova Scotia, and the highland games, and they showed a big strong bearded guy in a kilt tossing this steel bowling ball a country mile....not THAT is what I expect to see from you.

JEFF: I know JUST what you mean.......I get all the electrical house repairs, PC repairs, programming issues, etc, etc. Sooner or later, you will need to upgrade the MB or, get a whole new PC for mom and dad. BTW, have you seen the TV news about the forest fire in New Jersey? It was started by a fighter jet that fired a missile by mistake.

Better get moving, all the tools are outside and now more TS are starting to pop up just west of us, see you guys later,

Garry, sorry to hear about the blackout conditions. We are supposed to get that storm later today or tonight.

Hey, this weekend we are going to visit the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. I will bring back plenty of photos and tell you all about it next week. Check out their website:

The first storm passed by without any ill effects. We received 0.94" of rain, now we have yet another TS overhead now, and it is pouring again. Rumble, rumble, rumble, flash, flash, flash.

GARRY:  No strawberry Rhubarb pie yet, the strawberries are here but the rhubarb needs another two weeks yet. No power loss yet. but I have my PC on a UPS ( Battery backup system) made by APC. Mr. Vollmer!  Welcome!  I think you'll probably find it to be much quieter in here.  Sit down, let me but you a soda.

Chloe, evenin', and I'd like just a hot chocolate please. Had barbeque, cole slaw, baked beans and a little potato salad for dinner earlier. Yum! Dinner [dinner]

Jim: It was me that said that you could get the 3-4 engines for the $ of the Ibook. It sounds like the computer has a higher priority than trains.

As for the computer/trains, Bob, one thing is, I never got into the brass stuff (out of my price range, and if I got one and liked it too much, that could get a bit pricey for my budget). Most of my computers I've had have been bought used (but in good shape), and I don't like being tethered down the way a desktop does (got spoiled by a laptop)... Plus, I only get a computer every few years, while it seems I'm buying MRR-related stuff every couple of weeks. Part of me might be a bit Scottish about brass engines, since I'm not a perfectionist about having to have every single rivet on the model look just like the prototype does. Probably a big part of why I chose a freelance railroad instead of following strictly a Class I line. If it works for others, that's fine - it's just not my way. Good to hear you got the truck (finally) fixed, and hopefully you were able to get most of your money back on the part that was the wrong model for your truck. Good to hear some of the pain is easing for you.

Hey, Colby, I don't see any "Maine Central" on that train - what gives? Evil [}:)]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Dick, I bet that Jersey fighter pilot got his "afterburners" toasted over that incident...Shock [:O] Not good for their PR at all!

Yep, Vollmer, come in out of the heat out there in the flaming forums... Have a cold one and watch the trains from the corner booth - good view of them there. Thumbs Up [tup]

Shadow Nix, sounds like your kid had a great time (if you can get him to go to sleep tonight...). Have a cup of your favorite beverage on me!

Today at work was a good paperw**k day - amazingly, no one came to walk-in and I was able to get a fair amount of catching up on my paperw**k, get a real lunchtime away, and actually leave on time! Yeah!! [yeah] Wonderful day outside - probably just barely reached 70 F and the humidity was only about 30-35 percent, downright nice! Cool [8D]Smile [:)]

Ryan, actually a MB for the laptop isn't that bad - about $280 - and that would be about the most expensive part other than the LCD; anything else partwise would be much less to get. But I've been thinking that it might be not too far from time to get something quicker, since newer software expects faster processors, etc. We'll see when I hear back from the Mac place I emailed. I might replace the laptop, and later get my current one fixed for use as a backup. But one thing at a time...

Want to get back to the layout - I'm like one or two others in here, that I haven't been doing much on my layout for a while (and need to...). Especially with the eager beavers and hard workers among us. Wow!! [wow]

Not much else to say tonight, so I'll grab a seat and finish off my hot chocolate before I head for home. Bill, take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing, okay? Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Howdy everyone!

Dick, if the ruhbarb's not ready that's fine. I just love strawberry shortcake! ANybody have a favorite strawberry shortcake recipe?

Mr. Vollmer is here, a Pennsy guy!  Sign - Welcome [#welcome]   I'll have to operate my PRR T-1 in his honor.

That's some of my locomotives I've rebuilt in the past few years. The T-1 is an old Bowser that I rebuilt and added the super detail kit.  The Pennsy E7 locos are Hobbytowns.

If those Texas guys are nice to me I'll take my Katy PA1 out too with my Texas Special.

Meanwhile, today, I've been working on CB&Q passenger trains.  I just received four unlettered BLI Cal Zephyr cars that I've lettered just for Burlington that I can use on other Zephyrs.  Also, I've added two Walthers Budd coaches.  My "Heartland Zephyr" is now departing on Track 1 on the Everywhere Lost route!

Have fun everybody!
