Howdy all,
Quick note- ED & CFO stopped in the shop on Fri. Said they had a great orange crop and were glad it was in. They are both looking very well. Asked me to pass along a message....HI all and will post when they get back to Mexico.
Trent
Well, looks like I'm tops today. Hey ladies Thanks for the cupcake w/the candle.
DRINKS ALL AROUND!!
TRENT: Thanks for the update from ED, glad he made it through the border crossing again, I was fearful that the guards might have stopped him..LOL Thanks for lunch Trent, I was getting hungry too!!
PC: Your a good dad, he will be jumping with joy..... as for that car...$150, it looks like it not get from Point A to Point A ....LOL However, if it RUNS, and does so SAFELY, then you got quite a deal my friend. Just think, you pay twice that for a real nice locomotive !!! hehehehehehe
JEFF: I sure hope your parents have a lawn tractor....6 acres cannot be cut in half a day with a push mower!! In fact, why don't you get them some sheep.....they will take care of the lawn, you can sell the wool and make some $$ for the MRR at the same time? And, every now and then a rack of lamb for dinner...it doesn't get any better Jeff!!
Chow time, think I'll have the blue plate special and a barley pop Zoe.
Been doing outside chores, started burning some limbs n wood scrap while the wind was calm, that parts done till another calm morning. Got most the weed eating done too. The road bank on the hill out front is most of it. It's to steep to run a mower on and if I don't keep it knock down, you can't see whats coming up the hill from the drive way. Luckly it's bout a once a month or so thing

That's surprising, not often you hear a teenager say that bout a car. Bet the boy has a grin from ear to ear and beyond.
Well lunch was good, feel kinda lazy now, think I'll take a nap, catch ya'll laters

Good Morning, Zoe, since it's Trent's treat, I think I'll go with those ribs, fries and a Dr. Pepper, please. Thanks!
Trent, thanks for the report on Ed's visit - did he find much you had there to tempt him into buying? Good that the orange crop is coming along - we need our OJ for the breakfast crew (plus those orange smoothies are great on a hot afternoon like today's will be).
Lee, good to see you in the Diner again - what've you been doing with yourself?

Hey, hey, hey! Some of us in the Diner like the color Red(birds), thank you very much! The 2nd game was cancelled because of Hancock's death. His family needs our prayers now (as well as the team - when they spend so much time practicing and playing alongside each other, it definitely affects the rest of the team).
Sue, you sure it's not too soon for taking the snow tires off? I know the Northeast has to be careful 'bout that...
Jeff, is that a yellow muscle car I see there on the layout? PC will be jealous... Looks great on your 'backdrop city', and I love those clouds you have.
PC, the car looks pretty good for only $150 - can you get me one like that? I figure even with the gas to get it back to Missouri, I could come out ahead... You know, that car is what my daughter referred to as a 'boat'. Of course, she can fit more of her friends in there with her, so maybe she'll like that.
PC wrote: To her a car is mearly a way to get from point A to point B (*GASP* Say it's not so!).
Obviously, she got the car gene from her mother and not from you, huh?
No progress on clearing the DR table (and so, no progress on the soldering, either). Spent most of yesterday afternoon getting new OS on the new drive in my PowerMac and getting my files from the laptop copied over to it also. But that's done, at least.
Well, back to the paperwork. See everyone later today (I hope, anyway).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

She's ugly, but she runs OK. A few tweeks and she won't be too bad I think.

She's just not into cars. He, on the other hand, should be quite happy!

I come across them every once in a while. I've gotten a few free ones too. As for the "boat" comment...thats not a boat. I had a '69 Dodge Polara 4 door for a while......now thats a boat! You didn't put a spare tire in the trunk, you put a spare car, like a Honda or something, in there in case of a flat!

Hows that?
Colby
Good Afternoon All!
Colby: Well done and kudos!!!
Inch and Richard: Well it's all about temperature, currents, conductivity and salinaty. In other words whats happening in the deep blue sea. I had a chat with the Chief Scientist today to get a take on Global Warming and here's the basic scoop the sea temperature is on the rise as the Labrador current is warming up. as he put it the Water in the Labrador Sea has risen 1.0 celcius in the past 10 years. One degree doesn't seem like much until he told me "It's the equivalent of the air temperature going up 10.0 C. WOW!
As for the colour thingy...
You'll all have to wait and see!!!
Later all as it's supper time and I'm hungry

Uh, oh... - for a minute there, Fergie, I forgot that you were talking about the question of the red and yellow trim or not. Had a minor flashback of Teffy's painting Fergie's loco a certain colour, and then of Teffy's house, and the mighty Lancaster dropping that major load of PINK paint onto it (the cows, the grass...) But luckily, you weren't talking about getting the Lancaster out of the hanger again, right Fergie? Fergie? You were talking about the engine colours, right?
Moral of the story - DON'T MESS(TM) with Fergie...
Stopped in quick and couldn't help notice the great post from our Lewiston hero.
Colby, congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment. Should help with college applications too. I see your HS band and colorguard perform along with the others in competition NESBA.
Last season, my town of Weymouth, MA, hosted the NESBA championships and your school was there. I don't remember what the placing was only know that I talked with quite a few of the kids parents. Sounds like you live in a nice town.

Hey Fergie. I think the twins need some help with repainting the kitchen a certain COLOR. I'm not responsible for this post. talk to Cloe and Zoe about it.
COLBY : Congratulations young man, that is quite an achievement!!! We are all proud of you here in the Diner!!!! and Cloe said the dinner meal is free for you and she baked you your favorite desert...she wouldn't tell me fo f ear that we might all take some before you.
FERGIE: Ask the scientist if the rise in temperature of the ocean causes the ocean to release more CO2. I have heard that the ocean gives off more CO2 than the population of the earth ever can...very interesting statement by another scientist in England.
MIKE: The shims came in, but when I took the rear of the shaft off, the bearing were falling out of the rear roller bearing set...NICE!!! S o now I am screwed because I have no way to drive off the retainer. So I am bringing the tiller mechanical section to the repair shop tomorrow.
It cleared off nicely this noontime, the winds are blowing hard from the NW, but the temp is a dry 65F, very comfortable. The weather forecasters are predicting at least 12 days of nice weather.... garden planting time !!!!
I was wondering if any of you guys in the Diner have heard from Mountain Tom ( Georgia ). They are having the worst forest fire in the history of Georgia. It has been very dry in the entire SE U.S., and the entire Okefinoki (SP) swamp is on fire. I think that Tom lives far enough away, but the fire is spreading every day.

I'm gonna be off the net for a little while. My computer crashed today and I had to reformat the hard drive. I'm in the process of re-installing everything. I had to come down to my parents place to get the Win98 IE6 Setup program.
Good Evening All,
Back from my trip up by Watertown to deliver a gearbox to one of my northern friends. Nice trip and I took the thruway back to do some train watching but didn't see but one (CSX) and it was headed the other way so no pic.
Colby - congrats and well done.
Speaking of picks you all have been busy. I haven't done much of late except try different combinations of paint to try to get a better concrete look than the WS stuff.
I'll be back tomorrow once I catch up with posts more. CUL,J.R.
Good evening one and all:
Colby: Congratulations! That letter is a keeper, and has been pointed out, will help with your college applications.
post a pic of it so I can compare. mug shots would be nice.
CapeJim: I thought we had buried that Teffy / Fergie loco colour business. I’m sure Fergie must be way past tired of it now, but is too much of a gent to tell us what he really would like to!
I know the Northeast has to be careful 'bout that...
Bill: Hope that stomach thing clears up for you soon. Not a great way to diet!
Dick:
I have heard that the ocean gives off more CO2 than the population of the earth ever can...very interesting statement by another scientist in England.
I see it’s bedtime again. So, Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Oh man! Is that what that was? I'm never going to live this one down! Don't worry, I'll take myself to the woodshed.
Evening Gang: The power went off at 8:15pm and was off for about an hour. Just one clap of thunder and poof. There are some storms west that are coming this way, so I will get this done and unplug.
Dick: So which 2-10-2 are you getting? I've got a Bachman and am happy with it. I will get a Life Like later when my favorite discounter gets them. I need to give him a call. That bearing may have been the culprit all along.
Ed: You should have told me that you were coming to San Antonio. It's a bit of a drive but Mary Ann and I could have headed there for a short vacation. Your bad.
Colby: Congrats on the letter. Very WELL DONE.
RT: Take care my friend. As they say " This too shall pass."
Der: Yup, I'm the one that ID it as an Alco PA-1. The nose and windows are definitely PA-1.
Yea Fergie may be getting tired of the pink thing but some of Mary Ann's cows are still blushing.
BobK: You asked about the outside railroad. It's not 1 to 1, altho the UP main line cuts our ranch in half. I've got a 7.5 inch gauge running on the place. I have both standard gauge at 1 5/8ths inch to the foot and narrow gauge at 4 inches to the foot. The narrow gauge is live steam model of a Kerr Stuart 0-4-0 tank locomotive. The standard gauge is an EMD TR-2 switcher. I've got about 1500 feet of main line down and will have about 1/2 mile when it's finished if it ever is. I do mow the UP right of way. They won't, so if we want to see what's coming when we craoo it I have to do it. We found out just last year the the UP dosen't own the land there tracks are on. We do. They have an easement. This could be interesting if they object to me mowing and clearing brush. I've tried to get them to send someone out to watch my back when I mow but they are short handed so I have to be very carefull.
Well I think that I'll get out of here before the storms get here.
Good Night All
Long time no post, gents...
I'll call in longer on the weekend, just letting you know i'm still floating around

JIM, was sure sorry to hear bout the Cards loss Sunday morning, their going to miss him, our thoughts do go out for his family and team.
PC,,, our favorite boat we had was a 78 buick electra, 455. We drive that car for 4 years. Mother drove it back n forth to collage for 2 years. As long as I it was tuned up and the card clean, it'd get 22-23 MPG, course you could still buy gas back back then.
COLBY,,, congrad on the award, it'll sure be a help in the future.
DICK,, I never even thought bout a bearing being bad. Hope they get the race off for you and a new bearing.
Well need ta get moving, kids will be here in a bit and I still got chores to do. Hope ya'll has a gooden, catch up laters

That old Polara was an ex-California high speed pursuit car. If you took it easy on the loud pedal it got about 8mpg. If you got crazy it was more like 2 or 3mpg. She was heavy though. Still had the bullet proof plating in the doors and everything. Had a CHP hopped up 440 Police Interceptor engine under that hood. You'd floor it and peel yourself out of the back seat!

And a side shot so you’ll know at once. Sorry about the focus, the camera said it was in focus on close up, but neither one looks sharp to me. I think it was Paul said PA1, and from your description of the long nose, that’s what I thought too, except I couldn’t remember the name. However, when I saw the photo of the SF loco in your shed, it didn’t look like a PA1 at all.
No that's not the one. It looks like a F7 with a box nose

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye.
You know what today is don't you? It's the first of the month. That means my check is in the bank and it's time for a trip to the LHS! I'll be picking up a few items today. An Athearn PB2 locomotive among them.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/1/2007 Sundown Fire Dept., Station 23

This is a PA1
A quick good morning, Zoe - just one of Bill T.'s donuts and a go cup of joe, please. Thanks for paying, Jeff!
Colby - I missed your post earlier, but congrats on the honors (and ditto the others' comments on your accomplishment)! Do hang onto that letter for college, too. I would think on your loco that it looked more like an PA-1, as others said.
Good to hear you're still around, OzJim - you can get us caught up about what you've been up to this weekend. Any new railfanning?
PC, on the 'boats I have known' thread, my first boat was - let's see, probably was about a 1960-something Chevy Brookwood wagon that my folks had - and I got to drive to junior college for a while. It was one of those early metallic blue colors (not the shinier colors like candy apple red that they had a few years later). Sort of a light (dull) metallic blue. Sounds like your CHP Interceptor-powered car really drank the gas down. Had lower mileage than a lot of SUV's get today...
Well, got to go for now. Think we may get some rain either tonight or tomorrow. They were saying this rain pattern will stick around a couple/three days, so Inch and Jerry, you may want to make sure your lawn's mowed today while it still can be.
Blessings and prayers,
