I used to listen to Pink Floyd when I was in the army, also Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Molly Hatchett, AC/DC, Kiss and a host of others. As I've gotten older, my tastes have slid back to classic rock, the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Mike, thanks again. I've been having alot of those kind of weeks for the past 5 years. I keep telling myself it can't get any worse. Well, I am partially correct. With a little luck, and a whole lot of patience the next couple of weeks may pay off.

On that cement hopper you have, you'll just have to experiment with the trucks to find a pair that fit. There's no gaurantee that the trucks on it are Walther's. They're probably associated from another manufacturer's product.

I got home from work today and found that my high speed internet connection wasn't working. Went to my parents place across the road, their's was working. I put in a call to Cebridge, they call themselves Suddenlink now, I call it Sometimes link, and found out they are doing repairs in this area and some places may be out of service. Two locations right across the street from each other? Come on! If they expect me to believe that garbage, I have a bridge in Brooklynn I'll sell them, cheap! But it was working when I got back home.

Great to to hear your still at it. I remember when I quit I would eat Scotch Mints by the handfull. Would go to the bulkfood store to get my weekly or should say daily supply. Had the freshest breath in town. The downside was I gained 75 lbs in the first 3 months. Sadly to say never got rid of it. Actually i think if any body around me looses 5 lbs, I'll find it. Oh well. Congratulations on day 4.

I'll have a Scotch, Glendronach if you have it, neat. Oh that's right I picked up a bottle today. It was a very aggravating day. Had to solve everyone's problems and of course didn't get my own work done. A typical day to say the least. Well, tomorrow is Friday and that can only mean one thing. What's that you asked? Church! Now before you start nay saying let me explain. Church is not what you think. Our version involves water and wine, mostly the later, usually in quantities larger than what you get other churches. It also involves neighbours, food, music and generally a good time. Just what you need after one of the majorly screwed up weeks. Wouldn't it be nice to walk in the office one day, knowing you had just won a cool million and pack up your box and just walk out. Everybody has to have a dream. Right? Amother Scotch please. Make it a double this time and perhaps try to keep your thumb out of the glass. Sorry, had a real s______y mother of a day!

     Got a BN cement hopper in today that I got off E bay. not real happy with it. The car looks good but the wheels are plastic and do not roll worth a s***. They look as though the wheels/axles were replaced befor  it went up for sale.  The couplers are Kaydee and is is supposed to be an old Walthers kit that is weathered. If I can figure out how to make it roll, it will be nice.
     Well, I guess I'll sit back and have another beer and relax,      Day 4 And All Is Well, NO Smokes.

Colvinbackshop: Yes that's grafitti you saw on the other car. That design is one I photograghed, edited to size, and then printed onto onion skin paper. I then cut it out and applied it to the car with a thin layer of white glue. There are a bunch of nay-sayers who say that won't work. I've done that with quite a few cars, Some of them have been wearing their paper graffiti for years now, without a problem.

Good story! It's always fun to talk with the old timers, but they are getting fewer and fewer. I have background on both sides of the family (grandparents and great grandparents) regarding "working for the railroad" and I am now finely trying to pick my parents (both in their mid 80's) brains for bits and pieces! I didn't even know that Great Grandpa worked for the SOO until just a few years ago!

If you can find in your part of the world, try Schell's Oktoberfest...I like it even better then the imported Spaten. It's from August Schell Brewing in New Ulm Minnesota...Family owned and operated since 1860.

You know what I love about this time of year?  It is time for the yearly Octoberfest brews.  That will be all I drink until I cannot find them anymore.  This week (and last week)'s beer of choice: Spaten Octoberfest.

Just getting ready for another day of work today. Gonna be building more training rounds for the government. Today I'm working on RPG's. Just a plastic tube with some sand in it. Go figure. I don't know how many there will be, but it'll be a lot.

Sounds as though everybody is doing just fine!! Me too!! Except that I am only working for everybody else at the moment...

With the outside demands for my time it's hard to spend time getting the chores around home under control..........so that I can get back to working on the railroad!

Mike, that trainroom / shed (shop) combination looks like it's coming along. It should prove to be a great combination! I did the same thing, with my Sawshop and Trainroom....Only thing I did wrong is that the the Trainroom should have been "flip-flopped" with the shop, as the shop is the bigger (8' longer) of the two and as we all know, more acreage is always welcome. And, hind-sight is always 20/20.

Well Mike, even though I REALLY like you diorama (Wow! Really nice work depicting a scene) and the name too....

Me thinks that the Beer Barn is located in Wylie TX and is owned and operated by some old cowboy that goes by the name of "Squeaky Wheels". Now, you may have to wonder if that's a nickname...or what, and if it is, how it came about...But I'll bet the branchwater at that saloon is the real thing!

GUB: Sounds like a total BLAST! I too love having a house full...And cooking.

Just a couple of Coors Light here, and I remember a story told to me by an engineer during my training. He was a very kind gentleman, and a recovered alcoholic, I say recovered because he died before he ever drank again.

He told me the story of how he was on a run back in the days of steam and how one night when they were in the siding he told the fireman (Junior Man), that the lady at the bar over there will give you 3 chicken sandwiches if you tell her Bill asked for them.

Well the young fireman went on over and asked for 3 chicken sandwiches for "Bill" on the train over there. She came back quite fast with 3 tall bottles of  Labatt 50 in a bag. The young fireman said, No he wants chicken sandwiches and I don't want to **** him off.

The bar tender who Bill knew well was sure that the order was properly filled but after such pressure from the young fireman she made 3 chicken sandwiches and sent him on his way.

Bill told me how he had chewed the "ARS" out of the kid because he could taste the beer, and when he saw the bag and there wasn't a clang he knew the kid was in for a rough ride.

The old days, when steam was harder to run than diesel and the rules allowed for alot more mistakes, and the booze was almost always part of the job.

I'm happy I work on the Railroad in the 21st century!

Beers empty, guess I'll have one more!

I got my new boxcar put together. Later I'll hit it with some matte-finish, then treat it to some rust and a black dye/alcohol wash.

All I can say really is WOW! There seems to be alot of activity here at the beer barn. Finished the bottle of Scotch. No big deal. Let's see.... How 'bout a nice glass of Bordeau? Okay if you insist. I can always get another bottle on Glendronach tomorrow.

For us Canucks it is Thanksgiving this weekend. And every Thanksgiving mean a passel of of people. Each year and we have been doing doing this for the past fifiteen years my family and my wife's family and an assortment of freinds get together at our house for a celebration of sorts. Turkey, Ham, Scallop Potatoes, Squash, Yams and lots of Wine and Beer with a little Brandy & Scotch thrown in for good measure. This year we have 30 to 35 people showing up. It'll be a busy Sunday. At least I have Monday to recoup.

Worked outside  trying to get some things done before the rain forecasted, which we never got. Oh well, got some things done anyway. Cold front came through while ago, may need heat in the morning.
Top matters off my scanner quit yeserday, so I can't listen to the RR traffic out back, gotta work on it now or get another one.
Went over ta Brayns for a game of dominos and a barley pop, ended up coming home with a beer frig for my shed, we can play dominos in there this winter. Oh yea gotta coffee pot in there to, along with the soda pops

Well, I made it to and from Alexandria today. Stopped off at the LHS as well and picked up the RH #6 turnout I needed. Also got a Roundhouse 50' MDC boxcar in Milwaukee road livery.

     I went to Wally World today and finally found some of those 1:87 vans with the graphics on them, picked up 4 of them.  
    I am almost through day 3 with no smoking, It has not been as hard as I expected, maybe I was really up to give them up. I have heard that the first three days are the worst, maybe starting on the downhill slide.        
                    I've to go for now, but like  Gov. Arnold  S. said in a movie ''I'll Be Back''

Dang, you guys must be through a couple cases or kegs a beer since my last visit in the beer barn!

Congratulations on quitting smoking Mike! I quit about 10 years ago and been smoke free ever since. Used to sell cigars at a bar and restaurant I managed at the time and it was hard not to sample the freebies, but I got over it soon.

We went to the Biltmore Estates Winery a few weekends ago and tasted 8 of their 30 + wines. Then proceeded to purchase 9 bottles, funny how you want to buy more wine after you have a few sips! Bought a few bottles of Riesling, white and red zinfandel, a cabernet, and some merlot too.

So how about a mixed drink recipe, anyone interested in that kind of thing here in the Beer Barn? Let me know and I’ll post one here and there…

Mornin' all.  Tuesday night I play hockey, so Wednesday morning starts with Ibuprofen for the aching body and the aching head from our traditional post-game festivities.  Coffee, black, with sugar.

Jeff, are you gonna have one of them 'ore-houses on your layout to go with the 'ore cars?  What kind of car do the 'ores drive, anyway?

I've been thinking about putting in an "underground" coal mine on the edge of my layout, just something you could see from the side.  I've got a couple of cheap old plastic 'ore cars myself, but no place to really use them on my layout.

Good morning all, I'll have a bourbon, with a beer chaser (boiler maker, for the uninitiated).

Inch: Things went just fine yesterday, only thing is, cutting that thick wall pvc for the mortor tubes produces a lot of dust and debris. I was hours getting that stuff out of my hair. It gets everywhere. There was even some in my wallet!.

Gotta go to Alexandria today to the caluses peeled off my feet so they'll heel properly. They're gonna hurt for two days afterward, not looking forward to that. Also gonna stop off and raid the LHS. There's a couple of things I need to pick, a RH turnout for one and maybe a new ore car.

Mike, great to hear that you're still holding tough!

I quit smoking many times before I quit! Once was a span of better than five years...and I fell of the wagon. Now it's been twenty five (except for a cigar with a bit of brandy at the campfire, hunting last weekend) and I don't miss the cigarettes at all any more! That wasn't always the case and it wasn't easy but.....Basically it's really more of a "I want too stop"... And sticking to it, more than anything else. It least in my mind. Stick to it.....You're doing fine!

inch: It was a busy weekend...actually a way busy fall so far...

With coaching swimming, officiating, working as the pool operator, having a bit of fun hunting and fishing, firewood and garden chores...And, let us not forget a bit of the arts (Showboat) too...I actually took time to stand in the Trainroom today contemplating the next project! I have a plan, just need to execute!!

     Here is a pis of what I've been doing the last couple of days.

     It is sorta hard to see for the shadows. the building on the left with the white door is the train room as it stands now. When I get it completed it will come out to just about 3' past the doorway on the right in the unpainted wall. The door in the unpainted wall leads into my shop, which will be real handy.
     Still no smoking, the patch must be working, sometimes I crave a smoke but I kinda put in out of my mind and go on to something elece. Was drinking a few cold ones last night and it did not bother me to much. Maybe I can lick this anvil I have carring around with me for 33 years.  Thanks for all the encourgement, This Beer Barn is like a group of good friends sitting around the keg and BS'ing.
